That's the nfc icon, turn off NFC in your settings menu
Never mind, it's NFC.
It will only dissappear if NFC is disabled.
NFC doesn't show in apps/all so can't disable notification there.
Tried using System Tuner and doesn't appear to be a notification service to turn off there either.
Wtf AT&T?
i haven't gotten mine yet (getting it today) but nfc is usually turned off in the system settings around where wifi/bt turn on and off...

Yes, I know you can disable it but I don't want to. It shouldn't have an icon for hardware that should always be on.
With that said, it's shocking to me that there is so little nfc pay spots here in America.
I just moved from Tokyo after over a decade in japan and nfc paying has been the way of life for everything, everywhere. Trains, subways, 7-11, all restaurants, airports, etc...

Yeah i've never even seen an NFC pay spot. I've ordered some NFC tags but until they get here no need for NFC to be on and running. The Icon is gone though with the custom roms. No NFC icon at all when its on.

There are actually quite a few, McDonald's, Home Depot and Carl's Jr are some here that have them. It's still a novelty though, I have used them with Google Wallet on my Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus phones and always got the "That is so cool, I've never seen that" thing

Those are all Tap and Pay merchants. This is a very rural area too, in urban and suburban areas they have even more.
I believe those who control NFC struck some kind of deal sometime ago with carriers and/or manufactures to have the NFC logo always displayed. The only way to remove the logo is to flash a custom ROM with it removed, or to disable it.

NFC pay spots are all over the US. People just don't recognize them. Any time you see a card reader with MasterCard pay pass or Visa pay wave branding, it will work with NFC. Used Wallet quite a bit to pay for things from my Nexus 4 in Atlanta.

Me too. This thing is a huge leap forward. It's good to see the same hardware worldwide from HTC. The dev support is insane already. It's just a shame the mods split the forums.
I pop in here from time to time but spend most of my time in the other forum.

I agree, it's strange and not helpful to have the One forums split up, makes finding info hard and confusing.

I'm trying to call so that I can my activation fee waived, but everytime I call I get some stupid foreign person.
They have a thick ass accent that you can't understand and don't know what they're talking about. What are my chances of getting someone who knows how to speak English correctly? I honestly think that by calling Sprint I just got some person in India.
Also, what should I say to get my activation fee waived?
Furthermore, my Airave arrived yesterday, but the GPS is blinking green and the Mobile is blinking orange. How can I fix? Am I supposed to link my phone up or something. Also, on the paper that arrived with the Airave my phone number ended in 8652, when it actually ends in 8246. Could that be the problem? Could someone please help me?
I just contacted them through the online chat and told them I didn't realize I would be charged an activation fee because it is free online and then asked them to waive it. Give it a shot.

Read the user guide that came with the Airave, it tells you what the blinking LEDs mean. If the GPS is blinking green, then it's trying to acquire a GPS lock. A GPS lock is needed so the Airave knows what spectrum is used in your area so the Airave can select the correct frequencies. If you can't get a GPS lock, try using the included external antenna and placing it on a near a window. The Airave will have a different # than your phone.
Yea the initial load on the airrave will take a while..I had to use the gps antenna and actually run it through the window and stick it outside on the balcony. After you do that there is a small reset button in the back and push it with a paper clip..don't unplug it again..also make sire u.reset you modem..sometimes the airwave comes un activated so if it don't work after that give sprint a call..if u get any orange lights something is not right..but they will flash green for a while..I live my airave . I get 1.5 mbs down throughout the entire.house

The Mobile doesn't stop flashing, and it's flashing orange.
Also, the Airave and the External Antenna are both on my Window.

I hope it works. For some reason, on the Sprint website it says that I ordered 2 Airaves, however, only one has arrived, and I only remember ordering one.
I have checked your account and yes, there is 2 Airave device added on your account Accidentally, however please do not worry, I will set one Airave device for cancellation and within 2 hours, you will receive a call back from the account services team just to confirm, and for canceling, you will not be charged anything, I assure you about that.

Well after reading this....http://phandroid.com/2011/07/19/dan-hesse-expect-big-announcements-from-sprint-about-4g-this-fall/
I'm pretty sure that the area that I am in will not be getting 4G service any time soon. TMobile is the only one who currently offers 4G in my area. That being said, since I will not be using the 4G service for a good while is there anyway that we can have the premium data charge removed from our bill? Or has anyone ever got it removed?
From what I remember we can't get it removed. What if you went on vacation and ended up in a 4G area. I'm sure you would use the 4G connectivity.
Its a "premium data plan" now, they stopped using the "4G access" because people were arguing the validity of it. All smart phones require the $10 add on. There's no way out of it.

Yes that and they are not calling it a 4g fee just a generic smartphone data fee... So unfortunately if you want the phone you have to pay. Still cheaper than big red

not sure why you call it a evo or 4g tax, the premium data charge is for all smartphone devices 3g or 4g. if the $10 fee is to keep our data unlimited them im happy to pay it, and its still cheaper that vz or att. so im happy with that. so... no sprint wont take away the addon charge
I remember back when the Evo came out after I had got my Heroc that people called it the Evo tax. Ah well, I may go to DC or Raleigh and be able to use it. Just wanted to check. Thanks all....
And yeah, it is still cheper than VZW....

Yeah, I think the LTE thing has a lot to do with that...though, I don't know what the hell they expect LTE to do when WiMax is a far superior protocol as far as I am concerned. I'm sure their engineers are well aware of Sprint/Clear's worst-in-show frequencies and power limits are to blame for the horrible spotty coverage even in "full 4G" areas. Is this super expensive switch to LTE (on crappy frequencies) nothing more than a super-expensive marketing maneuver? I mean, srsly...Similar or worse protocol on the same horrible frequencies aren't going to change anything, or even make it perform worse.
4G is still rolling out slowly, just got it in my town, sprint reps didn't know anything about it. Just tried it a few weeks ago and to my surprise 5Mbps down, and 1.7 up.
Try an app in the market called "sensorly" it will show where 4G is before sprint will acknowledge it. Be sure to follow the setup for sprint and then 4G maps.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
That or just look at Clearwire's website. I have 4G coverage where I live and in some spots here in OKC, but Sprint has said nothing about it.
The 10 dollar/month fee is to keep "true unlimited data" on any smartphone according to Sprint.. and with my usage this is still cheaper than using the "death star" or "vzw" but YMMV
Yeah, that fee is also applied to the blackberry phones.

Well the ZDNet article is a blog entry, and likely the writer of the article is just a bit under-educated on the matter. The atrix simply doesn't have radios capable of LTE. It is what it is.
I would probably write to the author (Rachel King) of that "blog" and let her know that she is wrong about the Atrix. More than likely, she has been lied to by AT&T like many other people I have heard about

Need an lte radio. Its hardware.

Technically if you wanted to dig out the guts of an lte device and pull out the 3.5 radio from the Atrix you could get LTE but that would take some hardware modding which doesn't sound pleasant and would most likely turn your phone into an over sized paper weight.

3G, 3.5G or 4G has nothing to do with speed. Some 3G is faster than some 4G tech. HSPA+ that's on our phone is more like 3.9G Though I think the ITU finally caved and say that HSPA+ is 4G.
3G... 4G... 20,000 leagues under the sea. It doesn't matter. The blog was talking about LTE and the Atrix is only HSPA+, CAT10 (14Mbps) as well, not even CAT14 (21Mbps)
Phone speeds are kind of like getting to be exotic cars. They have all these top speeds but there srent any racetracks/straightaways to "test" them out. yep.
i have my elevate sitting here waiting for some LTE....not like my area is going to get LTE any time soon, but .....
Hey guys, spent a long time on the phone with Verizon today. I bounced some information off of Tier 2 and some higher ups about what could be causing the Time Zone problem for those of us having the issue. They put in tickets for the areas I could remember off of the top of my head (Here and Arizona), and told me they think I am right about it being a server problem. They said a lot of us in urban or rural areas that pull LTE are on immature networks that are using assistance from servers in larger cities (Chicago for me), thus forcing me to Central time even though I live in Eastern Time. It looks like an HTC/Google issue to them being that they can patch the problem by using location information properly, and they said they will look into it and someone is supposed to call me back in 3-5 business days.
Edit: Also, if you are in an area where you are pulling 4G and it is just killing your battery, diable "Always-on mobile data" in network settings. It won't interfere with your apps and syncing. My battery life literally has about doubled today since doing this. I haven't seen any downfalls.
I don't know... doesn't Indiana always have a time zone problem, at least for half the year?
I remember being an hour early for a business meeting because we didn't know Indiana doesn't believe in daylight saving time. Then I came back home and watched a West Wing ep where they missed their plane because of the time issue.
Liberal douchebags changed that a few years back. We observe it now.
Why you gotta bring politics into this in that way? I'm holding my tongue... but it's not easy.
Probably because it was the liberals who were running the state at the time, making unnecessary changes for no good reason but to say they did it. You're having a hard time holding your tongue you should probably research what each party is ACTUALLY supposed to represent and re-evaluate your stance. And coming from a guy in Cali where you are about to be required to pay your babysitter as a full time employee, give them benefits, and breaks, as well as not make them work more than 8 hours per day, lol.

Come on, dude. Leave politics out of this. I appreciate you starting this thread, as I am having this very problem. But, leave politics out. Software and server issues know no political boundries. We all suffer the same issue.
Well, it sucks that it did get pulled off topic by that dude, but politics plays a role in everything in the US now, unfortunately. The Good news is, Verizon just acquired a whole bunch more spectrum from the big 4 cable companies, which could be premature of me saying this, is going to significantly help our cause. I don't see Verizon investing in last years technology if you know what I mean.
You must be pulling Eastern Time huh? Close enough to Atlanta like I am close to Chicago.

I live in Montgomery, Alabama. It's about an hour drive from the eastern time zone.

Im from just north of Birmingham... A few hundred miles from eastern time. I'm going into Verizon tomorrow to see what they say

Have not had this problem yet. Did you guys have the same problem on your previous phones??
Never had it on my incredible. It only happens when I use 4g. I can switch to 3g and the time is right

Nope, and what is the point of going to Verizon store where they know nothing when I just old you what Teir 2 and above said? lol
It is whatever city is hosting your 4G traffic, for you guys it is probably Atlanta. And saying Montgomery is a "few hundred miles" from the Georgia state line is a huge exaggeration dude. It is less than 100 miles. It has nothing to do with tower location it is where traffic is routed.
I lived in Columbus while I was stationed on Ft. Benning, so I know for a fact you are overshooting it.

First I don't live in montgomery, I live north west of Birmingham. It IS between 150 and 200 miles from where I live to the georgia state line which is where the time zone switches.
Yea, driving miles while driving South before turning to drive East, lol. You know that your phone doesn't take the highway right? Still not "Several Hundred Miles".
It is NOT 150-200 Miles, lol.

Never said several hundred. Read before you talk down to people. I live close to the Mississippi line so it is 150 to 200.

Hmm, unedited quote from a guy who is listed as living in Cullman. You aren't winning this. Looks like ~89 miles. And Atlanta is a bigger city than Birmingham, etc... So again, since you are pulling Easter Time Zone, and I am correct about what I have stated, how about you go cry to Verizon.
Actually they fixed it. Surprising I know. And I did live in Cullman, not any more.

Oh, they "fixed it" by turning automatic off, lol. There isn't just a "fix" that Verizon could do in the store. It is a server problem. The rep in the store doesn't just decide that your phone doesn't need to run through Atlanta anymore, Troll.

+1...I would use that option as a fix except that any of the Verizon apps that require you to be signed in through Verizon require that it be set to automatic. I use the NFL Mobile app a lot and if I have automatic off, it tells me it has to be turned on for the app to function. It is frustrating because I either have to turn automatic off at night, or ensure I am not on 4G or I cannot trust that my alarm will go off. I am in Arizona. We need a true "fix"...not a "work around".
Yea, I had the same issue. I don't use NFL mobile much, but when I did try I had the same result. I noticed it while trying to use MyVZW to pay my bill. Verizon Tier 2 manager said they were going to put in a ticket to at least patch the apps that need automatic time to work on our phone if nothing else.
Charles Barkley shows off our phone at half time tonight during the playoffs.

nice- hopefully someone will find a video.. i wanna see..
horrible and awkward. they kept calling it the EVO LITE
I was at a restaurant when this happened. One of the people I was there with was inspecting my phone when it happened, and thought it was funny that Sir Barkley had one, too.

Kenny Smith was calling it a EVO lite because he said the network is too slow. He called Hesse out about it on the air last week. Sprint sponsors the show.....
Wow if that's true, then that's got to be embarrassing for Sprint. Their 3G network is slow compared to everyone else. Maybe it will be a wake up call for Sprint? *crossing fingers*

LOL...Barkley commented last week about how slow Sprint's network is. Dan H. gave him a EvoLTE which he had to show on the set (my guess as punishment for making that remark on the show that Sprint sponsors). Aside from calling it a Evo Lite for the entire one minute segment, Kenny Smith went on to say "well their network is slow so maybe Dan will give me one too". I can see the face palms now. Would love to be a fly on the wall and hear those calls to the show's producers.

Nope I don't think Sprint will take a hint.... Lol
Lay off Sprint, this is all part of network vision.
I think the most shocking thing here is that Charles Barkley would actually be using Sprint at this time. Has he lost all his money?

I must guess that he has devices on multiple carriers and possibly a Sprint line that is about 16 years old. The "PCS" network was formed about the same time he won his second Olympic gold medal. Maybe he is like many of us- a long time Sprint PCS user that is giving the company a swift kick in the butt publicly like many of us do here (semi)privately. I think it is fairly hilarious in any case.

Well if Charles Barkley has been with them for 16 years, he must be pretty pissed they removed the Premier program! I sure was and then I gave Sprint and kick in the butt and went to Verizon.
Maybe Charles gets free phones from them so he decided to stick around. That would have been the only reason I would have stuck around.

I hear you. I had to get a VZW Xoom with data and just run wifi tether to my phone when I need the nations "fastest, most reliable network."
For me it costs less to have 4 lines on sprint and a data line on verizon than just the 4 lines on verizon. I essentially get a free 5gig data line out of the setup. Works well for me.
Nothing like going ot in a Charles Barkley thread. lol
Reason 87654 why Sir Charles is the greatest Athlete to ever walk the face of the Earth!
Charles Barkley uses Sprint because AT&T wanted him to pay a $500 deposit to start an account.
Sir Charles was having exactly none of that.
