Did an ODIN restore to Stock Image w/root & bootloader unlocked preserved .
SUCCESS
Booted up and did minimal config. Checked email.. Surfed the web.... made a few calls and txt.
SUCCESS
Booted ClockworkMod Recovery and began install of JB 14....
HANG
Tried powering on the phone......... nothing
Tried CWM Recover boot... red light blinks every few seconds
Tried Download mode w/ODIN... nada ... faint red light blinks every few / 10 seconds.....
Battery was at 80% or so when I started CWM Flash.....
And there ya go... Glad I have insurance ?
Anyone got any ideas before I have to take a walk to the store and pickup a loaner? LOL
Just as an FYI:
This had NOTHING to do with the specific ROM..... It was some hiccup during the flash process in CWM... I've switched back and forth between every rom on here w/o a problem back and forth several times. I just must have angered the flash gods at some point today because all I get is a faint red flash on any power attempt (much like my Xyboard on a completely dead battery)..
I do however wonder if during the day while TMO ported my number from VZW that Verizon didnt send some death / self destruct code to my phone LOL

Glad you clarified that, some just see the ROM and assume it is the cause. By the way how was your battery during flashing. It could actually be dead. Jay a thought

Completely cant find my 300K Resistors Off to RadioShack I go
Anyone around brooklyn with at RIFF or JTAG box?
I ended up going to my Local VZW Store (still under active contract for a few months) despite using TMo.
Told them I flashed back to Stock image.... then was loading a ROM again to remove bloatware and it went bananas on me. They looked up my acct ; I have been paying more then $200/mo for nearly 4 years now........ The rep was really knowledgeable about 3rd party ROMS/Rooting and said he would send me out a new phone tomorrow under extended warranty. Also said they just send it back to Samsung who just hardware flashes it and sends it ous as a REFURB unit since it was in literally MINT condition (Otterbox Defender) since Day 1.
Moral of the story: Was honest and expected nothing other then a "sorry buddy... you are out of luck" .. told him the truth and got a replacement (he even switched my titanium grey to white on the replacement). Didn't file a bogus insurance claim and the rep who is an asst mgr at the store was an ACE. If their costs monthly weren't so high I would be inclined to stay with VZW; but a few lines for me the wife and my kids on there is giving me an unnecessary beating to the tune of 2X my TMO costs.
For all the misgivings about VZW ...... I have to say its not the company........ Its being lucky enough to get a rep that isnt a hardon and appreciated me not giving him BS.
+1 VZW assoc mgr man.

Def was too weird AND out of left field. I even pulled out the soldering gun and sacrificed 2 usb cables and made a 300K Ohm and 301K Ohm jig and still nothing. Short of a full on JTAG / RIFF / Medusa attempt I don't think there is hope for this thing.Emmc sudden death seems possible at the most inopportune time; but it may just as easily be a power circuit failure based on what I am seeing with the meter and three batteries.
Thanks for the story, hopefully I don't have to experience it anytime soon

My dog seemed to break my phones ability to charge. What is the process of replacement? Do I go to verizon and just ask for a replacement?

I've told Verizon that my phone wouldn't charge anymore, and I was vague with the details and they sent me a replacement that I got within a day or two.

You can call Verizon and explain that your phone no longer charges and they will overnight you a CLNR (certified like New replacement)

Ive used the "my phone doesnt charge" anymore a few times.
my call goes like this:
Hi, my phone doesnt charge anymore. I tried buying a new battery, and I used my wifes charger and cable, but it still will not charge. Then I tried a factory reset and it still doesn't charge
okay sir, looks like you have already done all the trouble shooting steps, ill send you out a replacement, does tomorrow work?
yes.. yes it does
Stop letting your dog use your phone! If there is no physical damage to the phone I was told once that they will do it in-store, otherwise you have to call Verizon/Asurion.
Only call assurion for a physically/water damaged phone. Always call Verizon technical support and tell them it won't charge. If you pay for TEC they will replace the phone free forever as long as it is not physically/water damaged. The chance of a replacement phone in the store is about 10%. Mainly it will only happen if you are within the 30 days of buying the phone
Thanks for the clarification, I've only had to replace two phones in two years so I don't have that much experience with it, both times I called Verizon and they told me to call Asurion. The time I got offered the in-store replacement was about a year after I got my OG Droid and the power button stopped working, it was a little beat up so they couldn't re-sell it immediately.

Total Equipment Coverage.
It's insurance and the extended warranty in a bundle.
If there is ANY physical damage to the device when you return it VZW will charge you $300+. That is if you request a warranty exchange.
There's no damage, but I do believe when my dog slipped off my bed she took the cable with her, bending the charging port of my phone, if that makes any sense lol

That sorta happened to me with my older HTC phone. I yanked the car charger too fast, at an angle. I sent the phone in and got a new one back.
As long as there no physical marks (i.e. teeth marks), if you play stupid and say that the phone just won't charge anymore (make sure you say you used the OEM charger, bring it in if need be) you should be able to get by with another phone. Remember those phones still have warranties.
My attitude, is if they are going to put stuff like watermarks in their phone that detect if it got in contact with moisture, if they can't prove it's damaged without physically take the phone apart then the burden of proof is on their end
my s2 has gone mental tonight.
i charged it up to 100% before i left. then tonight for some reason it kept showing this when the charger wasnt plugged in

so i kept restarting and taking out the battery til it stopped.
you can see the charging period didnt seem to show up on the graph. the charging period shown there i was not charging but the phone seemed to think it was. so as i was restarting it a few times it went from about 70 to 49 to 17 to 49 again
and also i havent been able to get a phone signal for ages and then when i can it wont let me register a network.
my phone is now basically just a wifi web browsing device until i get it sorted :crying:
Sounds like a battery failure.. Not sure tho.

thats a relief. o2 is down nationwide
EVERY single time I've heard of this issue (and there are a TON of threads all over XDA about this, not to mention all over other forums - seriously, just google "i9100 charging paused voltage too high", and watch how many results you get), it is due to a dirty or failing USB port.
Steps to take.
-clean USB port with a clean, dry brush. (don't be TOO rough)
-if that doesn't work, take out the battery, and with a q-tip and small amount of isopropyl alcohol, clean the USB port. Let it dry, then replace the battery.
-if THAT doesn't work, you'll probably have to get the part for the USB port replaced.

yeah i know. i had both things happen at the same time so initially i thought it was my phone on the fritz and they were related
so i tried those things and it still having problems.
I bought this replacement in Nov off Ebay. After i lost my original one. Do you think I can still take it anywhere to be repaired?
will the o2 store look at it for me?

By "those things" I'm guessing you didn't actually replace the part for the USB port. Just the cleaning steps?
That image is "desk clock" mode. It gets activated when certain pins in the USB port are shorted with a specific resistance. If you thoroughly cleaned the port as best you could, and are getting random desk clock mode and still randomly getting the charging paused message, then I'd say your USB port is dying a slow death. You'll need to get the part replaced.
From what I hear the part itself is pretty cheap (like $15) and not hard to replace. I don't know if O2 will do it for you though, since you didn't actually buy the phone from them. You can try... but I doubt it, since it was a second hand purchase. Or just take it to a local cellular repair shop.
My phone is also having a similar experience. I running an AOKP rom so it keeps charging instead. How long will the usb port work for. It's being sent back to Samsung to have the screen replace and have notified them about this. So will the usb port work till next week or could it die in hours or days?

I'm not sure how someone on a different continent than you can possibly answer a question about the state of the USB port on your phone and how long it will last.

hmm i'll have to look into it then. no idea where to start buying parts and where to take it to repair.
will have to do some research
It can by caused by humidity too in my opinion. Had this problem few times. My friend had too. It was gone after putting out battery for few hours in warm place. Even when I was keeping my phone in locker at roofed swimming pool it was happening.

It depends on the severity of the damage specific to your phone. If it's damaged more severely, then not long. If it's not damaged so severely, then longer. How long it's been doing it doesn't mean anything.

ok its getting worse now. ive requested a repair from samsung.
before i send it off should i remove all my google and facebook accounts or should it be ok to leave that kind of stuff on there?
As long as it's unrooted, running stock firmware, has the flash counter reset if necessary, why would you need to remove stuff like that first ? I probably wouldn't.
Always remove personal data. Fully wipe your phone. You never know who works in service and what will di with your personal stuff. Thats my opinion.

I got a brand new s2 two and a half weeks ago, 1 week ago when unplugging my charger it sort of went crazy bringing up the car mode, desk clock, charging when it wasn't and the voltage too high popup every 30 seconds. I took it back and they exchanged it straightaway however i have had this one for 3 days and its done exactly the same thing. I rooted and installed a custom rom on the first but left the second totally stock. It also happened to the girlfriends note too.....
Luckily i haven't had the phone for a month yet so i'm still entitled to an exchange but this has put me off samsung and i'm thinking of an alternative if they'll allow me to take a different handset.

I'm trying to figure out if i need to return a new note I bought 2 two nights ago from Verizon brick and mortar. It is periodically rebooting. The screen was also glitchy towards the end of the first 24 hours (height of reboots) but has been fine since I did a factory reset.
But it STILL reboots itself occasionally. All I have installed since wipe is xda, tune in radio, Google voice.
I have had power saving turned on the whole time with screen brightness at or near minimum.
Is the some log I can check to see what is causing the reboots?
Is there some way to return this device without winding up with a refurbished replacement?
Glad I haven't rooted yet as then I'd be sure it was something I caused.

Also, u don't know if it's helpful but I have a 32gb SanDisk ultra installed. I will reformat it now. Running alogcat I so far all I see is an error about being unable to open trace file and a repeated error every minute of so saying that spans cannot have a zero length.

Just got mine this week as well and experienced the random reboots. Mine was more due to large amount of processes running at once. It did it around 5 times but only when it was fetching multiple downloads from Play store. Yours is doing it for no reason while it is just sitting there?
I had 2 random reboots day 1 of my phone and nothing since. I just chalked it up to gremlins.
Has happened listening to streaming audio but today rebooted once and froze once requiring a battery pull while just on Web (stock browser) or xda. The screen issues which seem to have gone away after factory reset were blinking/sparkling lines as screen refreshed and also earlier in the day an insensitive capacitive screen (the stylus worked fine). The sensitivity problem was first symptom but has not reappeared after wipe. A lot of the day I have the phone in my pocket with headphones plugged in but not necessarily in my ears so could have missed loss of reboots.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Take it back to vzw and get a new one. I'm using a sandisk 32gb microsd card and my phone doesn't reboot, but I don't see how a microsd card could cause random reboots.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I don't see how either but searching other forums there was some indication that a bad card could cause otherwise unexplained problems so I thought I'd mention it. I swapped it for my wife's card anyway.
I just don't like the idea of swapping a new phone for a refurbished one which is presumably what they will try.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
If you just bought it and return it to the store you got it from, I would think that they will give you a new replacement (assuming that they have inventory on hand). I can't imagine that there would be many refurbs in the channel yet anyway since the phone has only been available for 2 weeks.
No issue here with stock non-rooted. You can also try ODIN'ing the stock image before you resort to returning it.
No reboots for me. Does not matter if stock, rooted, bootloader unlocked with beans version 2 ROM and even overclocked to 1.8ghz using different kernal.
A good test is to factory reset and don't sign into Google upon reboot. Just play around with the apps that came on the phone. Maybe download a stress test App from the play store and let that sucker run for a few hours.
Edit:
I'm using a 64gig card and formatted it to Fat 32 to make it compatible with twrp recovery. Maybe just leave out your SD card to make sure.
It started behaving badly while running the steers test and also streaming audio, browsing Web, etc.
Attached is the battery usage plot and you can see it seems to have went from 30% battery to 15% then after putting it in the charger it started to charge normally then jumped back up to the level it should have been at. There is also an earlier smaller blip like this.
Maybe a problem with a power regulator? Think it's going back tomorrow.

This is right.. If you have any chance of saving the phone, never power it on for a day or so. I don't think rice works that well, i've dropped many phones in water and the best way I have found to actually save the phone is to put the oven on a very low heat, put it in the oven w / the door open, and then let it sit for a day or two.
YMMV, but if you turn it on and it starts acting funky it is almost always 100% dead.

agreed, my oven has a warm setting that's about 160-200 degrees. Works well to dry out electronics.
take the phone apart
remove motherboard
clean all contacts with at least %90 alcohol.
put back together and you might be working again.

I've just been given two non functional i9300's for free, to see if i can repair them.
both have cracked screens, one appears to have water damage.
i've tested with spare batteries, and neither powers on, nor do they show up in windows when connected by USB.
whats the bare minimum we need for these to power on and be detected by windows, so i can determine if the logic boards in these even work?

If we do not know why the phone is not booting up, we cannot tell u which part to change.

yeah thats the same situation i'm in.
at the very least, one of the boards is showing 5W of power consumption when connected to a wall charger (which is connected to a power meter).
since the battery is charging, that implies something is working - but i'm getting nothing on the screen and not hearing sounds out of the speaker.

i cant tell which board came from which shell unfortunately, however this board/battery is charging in the water damaged shell, but showing 0W in the 'clean' shell.
backwards to what i'd expect. maybe this ones just a dead screen, and the other has some more serious, but better hidden damage.
edit: the 'water damaged' shell + board had a red charging LED show up, that went away when i hit the power button. didnt power on after that/the touchscreen buttons dont light up when touched.
edit 2: with my good battery the LED went blue and the backlit buttons lit up. i think this hardware combo works, and i just need a new LCD - will trst it out with MHL and see if that works...

looks like this combo just needs a digitiser + LCD, despite getting an image on screen i cant control it in any way.
thanks for the help jelly, you at least helped me think this one through and come up with viable testing methods.

so using that test above (wall meter then MHL) i've confirmed that one board works, one doesnt. in either frame one board lights up the LED and the other doesnt draw any power or give any sign of life (assuming this is the water damaged one)
i've got one of everything (front + back camera module, speaker etc) literally all im missing is a LCD screen.
to ebay i go, this has been a good day
this just got hilariously fun.
i ended up temporarily using the LCD + digitiser from my i9305 (it works but hte back panel cant be closed) to sync up a bluetooth mouse to the phone.
now i can use it as a bluetooth controlled HTPC
