i really appreciate your support but i had previously an indecent due to a wrong tutorial i followed please can you send me a link of a tutorial for me to follow containing the files need to be downloaded and stuff
i am really scared to take decision and choose one to follow

Even easier method.....
BACKUP current setup
1) download the firmware from Sam mobile or samsung updates.com
2) visit this thread.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19375402
read all the instructions and download the MobileOdin app from the first post
3) in that same thread, go to post number 5 and download.....
MobileOdin_FlashKernel_I9100G-v1.0zip
4) install MobileOdin
5) extract and install the FlashKernel
6) open MobileOdin and import your downloaded firmware
7) begin the flash.......
Don't get much easier than that.....
Edit.....Here's the link to the l9100G firmwares at samsung-updates.com
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9100G
Edit 2.....I know that the paid version of MobileOdin will extract the firmware from the download zip....I'm not sure if the lite version will.....probably best to extract it first....before importing it to M.O.

I assume you can still get into download mode, but can you get into recovery mode (volume up..home..power)?

Flash a I9100G custom kernel via odin (.tar file) so you can get to CWM.
After that make sure you are flashing an I9100G ROM not a I9100 ROM.
@Keith he wants to flash 4.2.2, which is a custom ROM, MO does stock only.

Oh right....I read the OP and saw that he wanted to 'update to the latest version'. I took the 4.2.2 in his thread title to be a typo.....

So odin passes...that's good.
You only need to flash a proper ROM.

Once you flash the firmware, you get a pass?
reboot into recovery/cwm and wipe dalvic, cache and factory reset...
Then reboot normally and you *should* be good to go....

Keith already posted a link where you can get I9100G ROMs.
Once you download the ROM abd extract the zip/rar file you might get a bunch of files, you have to flash:
PDA: Code
PHONE: Modem
CSC: CSC

I already downloaded one of these
and got it on SD
when i try to install no error just the phone turns off after some loadings

Pull out your battery and CONFIRM what is says for the model number of your phone. This will confirm or deny that you have the i777 Samsung Galaxy S2.
IF it has a model number of i727 which is also, kind of, sort of, a ATT samsung galaxy s2 but is considered the " Skyrocket". So PLEASE before going any further check it out before you get flamed here if you get help and you don't have the i777.

I was on stock ICS. I wanted to root.
Then i flashed the siyah kernel, after that the phone booted with just samsung logo
I tried flashing a stock rom but it fails, it just halts. However installing a kernel through odin is successful.
Even kies fails to install the stock rom, it downloads the firmware but nothing installs.

Trying to gain root via installing another custom kernel is NOT the way to go, in fact, it's not the right way and AFAIK, it's not gonna work.
So, it was stock ICS and you want to .......... what? just root? or intend to install a custom firmware?
Either case,
FIRSTLY, rooting. Read the stickies, there are links to instructions how to root (per ROM version)
SECONDLY, in order to install custom firmware easily, strongly recommend installing CwMR first. HOW?
a. make sure it's rooted.
b. install Mobile Odin
c. flash custom kernel which includes CwMR. Be careful of flashing GB kernel to GB firmware and so on.
So go back, a question for you.
How did you manage to install Siyah kernel first place?

Siyah kernel was in tar format can be installed in desktop odin. Am I wrong?
the bottom line is now I cant flash any rom through odin or kies. It just hangs at the start. I am able to install stand alone stock kernels through odin without any problems. I guess I am clear aout what I am talking. Help appreciated. Thanks

[Q] Help! Soft-bricked. How can I return to stock Chinese version?

My model is i9100G ZCLPI
I have the zip file I9100GZCLPI_I9100GOZHLPI_CHN which I downloaded as a backup. Is this the ROM or the kernel? It contains a tar file over 500 MB so I guess it is the ROM? I tried to flash the tar file using Odin but it never works.
Where can I find the stock kernel and stock ROM?
When I boot now, the screen shows phone--[!]--computer. The yellow exclamation point.

I downloaded and flashed the stock firmware already. I guess that's what I9100GZCLPI_I9100GOZHLPI_CHN is. I am going to try again from Sammobile, but right now their search is not functioning.
Firmware should be a large file about 500 MB uncompressed or 250 MB compressed, right?
First check if you can access download mode using 3 button combo..
You can only flash the firmware you want via Odin.. (as stated above post)
Always always do a nandroid backup before flashing or updating firmware.. always keep a nandroid backup in your sd card..

Usually it hangs at setupconnection. I let it go for almost an hour before with no change.
I still want to flash another ROM on it because the Chinese version doesn't run Google Apps. Any advice? It first soft-bricked when I flashed it with MyGKernel.

I should have done a backup in the SD card. But since I couldn't install any file manager (no access to Google Apps on Chinese stock) I just downloaded the stock ROM, backed up my contacts and flashed a new kernel. For some reason when I tried to restore stock it didn't work, many times. But just now I restored to the same stock file, no problem.

I just verified I can use the phone, send text messages, and my contacts info is still in there. Seems to be running properly.
I'm not sure that MyGKernel was the problem. I just tried it because I found someone on another thread used MyGKernel on their Chinese i9100G successfully.
What should I be looking for if I want to root and flash a compatible kernel/ROM? Should the kernel be ZCLPI compatible? LPI compatible? Most kernels / ROMs seem to be incompatible with the Chinese model.

Ah, so it is the rooting step that is the main hurdle. I will follow the guide you linked to. After I root it, I can install CM9 or AOKP or whatever as long as it's for the i9100g?
My main motivation to flash another ROM is to get access to google play, google calendar and skype.

I have successfully followed your instructions (thank you! :good and my phone has cwm and is rooted. Now I am wondering if I should just install google play .apk or try to flash a stock ROM from say, Taiwan. Which may have google play on it, I'm assuming.
Do you have any advice on how to install the google play .apk? I have a vpn set up on the phone already, so I should be able to access it once installed.

[Q] I9300 Stock ROM, Rooted - OTA JB Update ?

I have a Samsung I9300, I'm in the US, and and on T-Mobile, it has the stock ROM, but rooted with Chainfire's CF-Root 6.4. The S3 has downloaded the OTA Jellybean update, and I have postponed it for now. My question is, can I apply the update ? and then just re-root with CF-Root, or will the update fail?
Thanks
I wouldn't apply the ota as it can fail with any root applied incl cf root. You could update through kies and reapply cf root or flash the official firmware for your phone through Odin. If ya need a hand finding out which official firmware ya need do the following:-
Dial *#1234# into your keypad and post results.

I believe that firmware is Brazilian but using sammobile.com to check for brazilian versions I dont see a JB update for any of the brazilian carriers handsets or the unbranded version :/
If u have kies you could do the update through it, it updates the same as if u flash through odin and wont wipe anything. You could also use "checkfus" from playstore it should identify your phone and firmware version and allow u too download.
I had a similar problem, and I thought I could try to get Jelly Bean by flashing a custom Jelly Bean ROM. Now I want to go back to stock ROM (flashed custom ROM's performance is awful), so I downloaded the corresponding stock ROM from sammobile, but what I found was a very large (1,2Gb) tar.md5 file and a SS_Dl.dll file.
So the question; is it normal for it to be that big? and, how do I flash it with odin... which thing goes where? which pit should I use? do I put the 1,2Gb file in PDA? should I tick re-partition? bootloader?? Please, help
(Current ROM is DarkyROM III v6.0, and my android phone is a spanish yoigo i9300, so according to sammobile my stock is I9300XXBLFB_I9300YOGBLF1_YOG)

OK, a slight variation on the question:
S3 I9300 on T-mobile, stock ROM, rooted w/ CF 6.4. Can I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash the JB update that the phone has downloaded (update.zip sitting in /cache) checking everoot to keep root, and do the update this way, rather than using kies to update and the re-root?
And if so, what happens to the CWM recovery that is installed, does it get over written with stock recovery?
Thanks

Even though ur phone has got a insane chip, its safe for now since u have installed siyah kernel which is 'Brick Bug' free ma8
as for as leaked JB v4.1.2, its better to stay away from it, since its a test version not a official release by samsung
u can visit a cpl of rom threads in both the 'Original android development' section as well as the ' Android development' section, go thro the change logs in the main page of the rom threads, see the one that suits u best
then u can flash the same as per the install instructions on those threads and see

So i cant brick my phone anyway anymor or hows?
Can you name me some reason not to install 4.1.2? I would be so intrested in installing it!
How do I install the roms then? Connect computer and phone -> download mode -> ODIN -> put the rom in there and start it?
or
Can I put the file into sd card and open CRW and then run the zip from e.g sd card?
Do i need to wipe anything before doing either of them? Will it brick my phone??
Thanks mates!

Hey,
I have samsung galaxy s2 which i just rooted yesterday. I dont understand anything yet aboat flashing a new firmware like 4.1.2 to my 4.0.4 ICS.
First I rooted my phone with Odin and file called CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar. All went fine and I had the root acces. After that I put a Siyah Kernel v.4.0.1 to my phone from CWR startup (install zip from sd card). Now I want to know how to install Roms(?) to my phone and how to install 4.1.2 android in to it?

So, i download that .tar or .zip and put it on sdcard, after that i start the that CWMR (volume up, home and power) and press "zip from sdcard" and select the rom?
No need to backup anything no need to wipe data or cashe or do factory reset?
Are you 100% it wont brick, can anyone confirm?
Thanks bro!

-Install Rom
Wanamlite rom have Philz kernel which is brickbug free.

Ok, assuming you found the right firmware, visit this thread. ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
Download the app from post one.
Download I9100 FlashKernel v3.0 from post 9.
Unzip and install the FlashKernel
Install the app
Bring your firmware into the app (it might be necessary to unzip it if you dl'd it as a zip)
Enable all the wipes
Allow the MD5 check
And flash.....
You will end up with unrooted stock JB.
It's how I did it....without issue...
Edit....you are running an international I9100 galaxy S2 right?

i am running international I9100 galaxy S2 ... but can i flash through regular odin because this sounds scary and some what complicated the pc odin is waaaaaaaay simpilar but im not sure what to do with it ............ i respect ur responses soooooooo much i know im a pain in the *$$
thx for ur help i just dont want to brick it
Seriously....mate.....
The chances of bricking with pc odin are higher than with this option.....this app and method was created by a highly respected dev called Chainfire....the guy is genius for the S2.....
With mobile odin, you don't even have to worry about putting the firmware files in the wrong places....it's done automatically. ....
All you have to do is flash a couple of app components, import the firmware, tick a couple of boxes and flash.....don't get any easier than that......
