Hi,
I've been experiencing a flickering screen for a while on my Droid DNA with Viper 1.2. I've tried to re flash my rom and it hasn't helped and i'm pretty sure it's a kernel issue anyway. I initially had the cubed kernel installed and tried to go back to the stock rom using the file available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024776
That didn't do the trick so I tried installing the kernel that is listed on the viper page but it only has boot.img file listed and no modules so my Wifi isn't working. It looks like the modules are supposed to be included with the ROM but that isn't working for me for some reason. It seems to not flicker now but my Wifi isn't working.
Any idea where I can get the correct modules from?
Thanks!
You can't use kernels based on the new base l, such as cubed, on roms based on the new base, such as viper 1.2
Just flash a different custom kernel, such as beast mode

beastmode or cpalmer's kernels should work for you. if you want to go back to the stock one with viper 1.2, fastboot the boot.img and reflash the ROM (the modules are included in the ROM package)

I wanted to root for a while, just looking for a rom that looks and feels stock, but has better battery and all..
well I followed
watch?v=-hPSrzRqtX4&feature=player_detailpage (cannot post link as I'm new)
and successfully got to supra rom.. well I don't like the vanilla 5 screen non sense homescreen, though I do like the crt visuals lol...
Anyways, I can't even use my wifi, it just says error, and I NEED wifi, I use it at home non-stop as I have horrible service.
Well I tried to switch to viperRom - I did the reset in bootloader, then full wipe, then cache and all that..
well, once I installed the viperRom .zip, I started my phone and its just the same as before... I can't switch roms! I know this is prolly some nooby thing I don't understand but I've been searching all night and just want to get everything working and need to sleep haha
any help GREATLY APPRECIATED
What do you mean about not being able to switch roms?

I figured out that I was trying to flash to viperRom using only the update
I'm now on viper, with stock kernel and still cannot get wifi to work, any ideas? Any searching turns up kernel issues, and to revert to stock.. well I'm on stock kernel

unless you're having hardware wifi issues, which the best way to determine would be through running a stock rom and stock kernel, my guess is you have a kernel and rom mismatch issue.
the way htc has their kernels compiled includes two things: kernel and modules.
the modules include a wifi module.
if you flash a kernel and then load a rom, chances are the rom might overwrite either the kernel, the kernel modules, or both.
the best way to avoid this scenario is to flash the rom first and then flash the kernel. the kernel flash will load the kernel itself and its modules. i.e. if you're on a rom you want to stay with now, flash the kernel again and then wifi should work.
hope that helps!
Thank you, o figured this out myself, but you were right lol I was using 2.3.3 roms on 2.3.4

I've tried finding a stock kernel zip that is flashable through CWM, but I've not be successful.
I've tried using LeeDroid's kernel v1.0.0, and i've tried using KaMmA's kernel v0.7. But i get random reboots with both of them.
Even though they give some extra battery time and the ability to OC/UV, i'd prefer going back to stock kernel to not have these issues. At least until they get fixed.
I know there are still roms with the stock kernel included, but I don't know how to extract it from them, and I'm definitely not sure that it'll work.
So could anyone be so kind to post a flashable 100% completely stock kernel for the GSM version?

Maybe u can try using joeykrim's app to flash the stock kernel ..here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192527 ...hope it helps u..

Yea, great point! I added this feature last weekend. From inside of Flash Image GUI, select the ROM .zip off your sdcard and my application will attempt to intelligently select the proper kernel and modules inside the ROM .zip to load on your device.
I give step by step directions at the bottom of the OP, specifically for EVO 3Ds using the HTC unlock method.
Hopefully this helps eliminate the confusion from having to manually extract the kernel and modules from a ROM .zip in order to flash due to the additional steps added by the HTC unlock method.

I had the same issue so i flashed the stock kernel from the Kingcobra 3d ROM its actually on the OP as a separate flashable zip. It's sorted reboots and black screen on calls for me. Hope this helps.

First I followed the directions in this thread then installed CleanROM using the directions in this post and now my wi-fi isn't working. I tried doing a factory reset from recovery mode but it didn't work.

You need to flash the kernel again after you flash any new rom. If you are using the stock kernel, you need to flash that. If you were using ziggy's kernel, flash that one.
Kernels can cause issues because when we flash a ROM the kernel is not changed. You must make sure you flash the correct kernel for the ROM after you flash the ROM.
Using ziggy's kernel without also flashing the proper modules into the ROM causes wifi error.
Others have had this issue, do a quick search for kernel and wifi error, you will find more detailed info.

Agreed. All of your answers are in the CleanROM thread. And if not, Scrosler is very responsive to questions over there.
I have the opposite problem. Was on stock using Ziggy's kernel. Flashed another ROM. Ziggy's kernel worked fine. I want to flash back to stock kernel, but no matter which way I do it, I lose WiFi.

For the love of God, finally. The custom kernels kept bootlooping while I was sleeping and I depend on my phone to wake me up in the morning. Thanks!!
Some reason my phone will not install the Kernel that is loaded with ViperRom Redline V2.5... Does anyone know where I can find the Kernel in a seperate zip? The only way it seems that I can successfully change my kernels is via Flash Image GUI. Current kernel I am using is Infected Antrax 2.6.35.14. Rom works however I am unable to get WiFi and 4G with this kernel and would like to get those up and running.
Is it possible to use the 2.04 stock ota kernel with older roms running the 1.15.605.4 release keys? I seem to have some benefit on overall smoothness with the 2.04 kernel but like the options of the 1.1.3 viper rom. Curious if anyone has tried this combo.
Thanks in advance.
You can try it but you might end up with a boot loop... Or stuff might not work right like wifi or blue tooth ect...

i was running the combo just fine. Didnt use the wifi, so i cant remember since i am unlimited. But other than that, seemed to work fine. Just make sure you flash the modules and boot.img in adb or flash the kernel if your s-off.:good:
