Recover sms from deavtivated phone? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an old Fascinate that I would like to recover the SMS messages from its internal memory, if possible. My problem is that it is deactivated (I got a Galaxy s3 late last year) & it was not rooted before it was deactivated. It also has an older operating system. Below is my phone info:
Carrier: CSpire
Model: SCH-I500
HW ver: i500.04
Firmware ver: 2.1-update1
Baseband ver: S:i500.04 K.DJ20
Kernel ver: 2.6.29
Build #: SCH-I500.DJ20
Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

I would suggest getting into a WiFi area, download a SMS backup program off the play store and see if that helps. I've been off fascinate forums for a long time as I have moved to sprint and the galaxy nexus. However I do remember this phone being able to work as WiFi only.

Activated or not, turn ur fascinate back on and its WiFi (since its off ur carrier network now), root it and use Titanium Backup from the play store to back up ur apps from ur fascinate and restore on ur S3. That's exactly what I did, as sms message data is exchangeable between any android os.

out of service problem

ok so my mates sgs2 was working fine till today, it now wont make/receive calls/texts. when trying to ring we get the error, mobile network not available.
in the settings, in about phone, status, the service state says out of service.
I have tried his sim in my sgs2 and it works, as does my sim in his phone (different networks but still)
so its only his sim in his phone.

Try Change sim carrier.... if not work try reflash... and then Factory Reset.
I think it's a baseband problem so just flash another baseband through ODIN or CWM
---------- Post added at 07:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 AM ----------
If it still not works, may be the IMEI has lost.
tried different rom and factory resets but no good.
the inside is still there. I had that problem with mine, this seems different

Did u try selecting automatically select network??wt rom and baseband is on phone??

yep tried that.
it was originally on tmobile, flashed listening v6.0 to it then unlocked it with the app off the market. was working fine, then just stopped. since IV tried reflashing the rom, changing to checkrom v2.0, Odin and flashed generic Samsung firmware, still the same thing, only no sim cards work in it now.

if i dial code *#1234# I get,

ok ill give that a whirl. but when you say about doing the some unlock, I have nowhere to put the unlock code.
IV done a online check of the inside and it came back as unblocked but IV heard they can be unreliable. do you think its maybe been blocked?

I believe that the IMEI of your phone has been blocked by Orange. This might be because your phone has been reported as stolen or damaged. You should go and talk to Orange and ask them to unblock it. Otherwise your phone will not be usable in this country.
Some scumbags do this on purpose so that they can claim phone insurance...

S2 Won't work with virgin mobile?

Hey,
My Samsung galaxy s2 will not receive or send any calls or texts whilst i have my contract virgin mobile UK sim in, the mobile internet still works fine though. I can use the phone with a 3 sim in even though it was locked to Vodafone when i got it, It's not a problem with the sim either, i can put in in other phones and it will work just fine.
I've tried flashing many different kernals and firmware in the hope to fix this problem but none have worked.
Some of my device info is here if its needed:
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9100MUGKG2
Kernal version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPT-CL941023
Build number: IMM76D.XWLPT
Thanks for any feed back!:good:
UPDATE: Whenever i enter the call settings on the device it won't let me enter call forwarding settings and additional settings, it' comes up with the message: Network or SIM card error.
Try using your virgin sim in another phone and see If you can receive and send calls then?

Data signal messed up

Got a problem , hope you guys can help.
My my mobile data won't work on anything less than HCDMA, but when I set this my phone signal drops to 1 bar or less!
If I set it to gsm my signal goes full but no data!
I have rooted and installed a insecure kernel /rom as below .... worked fine for a few months.
Model number : GT-I9300
Android version : 4.0.4
Baseband version : I93000VLG1
Kernel version :
3.0.15-928452-user

Build number : IMM76D.I9300BVBLG2
Is there a chance you are on 3 UK?
Afaik, as their name indicates, they only provide 3G/HSPA coverage and no 2G coverage.
3G uses higher frequencies which means more throughput but less distance so it's normal that the signal is weaker than when using 2G networks.
It's also less resiliant to distortion and other signal issues.
You might want to check into using a 3G repeater if the issue occurs at home but be warned that the usage of these devices is shady at best and illegal in most countries. (You'd need an official license to broadcast at that spectrum even if it never reaches across your own borders)

Hi! Flashing a modem might help you out on that problem.
I hope this helps

no problem. do leave a feedback!
kernels are for wifi connections
modems are for network connections like your signal
Try calling your carrier and ask them to refresh your network and APN setting. I suffered this problem yesterday and called my carrier five times to deal with it. Now it is running fine.

Thanks guys for both of your suggestions, I did change my modem and I did ring Vodafone to refresh.
The modem did improve the signal slightly but the refresh has resumed normal service!
At least I now know how to change or tweak my modem for optimum performance. Also did not know the kernel was for WiFi.....will look at that too!

One strange thing though...only works on edge....anything higher it just hangs.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
As i find and as others have posted .
If you have changed modems and get problems after reflash to a known good modem .
Then one solution is to start from scratch wipe phone and install older stock firmware .
Then update .
jje
You are most welcome

Text messaging

I have the Samsung SGH I497 AT&T tablet and I was wanting to know if it is possible to do text messaging with the tablet via AT&T? I know it has a phone number from AT&T but knot phone capabilities for making a phone call like a regular cell phone.
When will this tablet be upgraded to 4.1.2 or 4.2.2? Right now I am running 4.0.4
