[Q] Downgrade from Jelly Bean to ICS

I have a Razr XT912 (original version) and I recently upgraded to Jelly Bean OTA 4.1.2. I really miss root access and I learned a method on how to keep root. I have to go to ICS first..... Is there any way to go back to ICS from Jelly Bean? Thanks.

Sorry. there is no way to go back to ICS.
You unfortunately will have to wait until a root exploit is available for our jellybean.

I was messing around with the razr m launcher and somehow messed up my gallery and camera. So, the only fix was to flash back to ICS (which doesn't boot, of course) then reinstall the JB update. In that process - I lost root! Oh well, just hope a root method for JB is in the works! :fingers-crossed:
Haha yeah I hate ads!! Its like chrome without ad block. You just can't survive without it

I've just got back to ICS on my Droid Razr Maxx (Spyder).
I dont't know if was because I have installed safestrap before instal Cyanogemmod 10.1 (Jelly Beam), but when I deleted all the /SDCARD-0 files and rebooted my phone, everything gone back to how it was. The old operation system (4.0.4), the older programs, configs, everything just perfect.
Note that the /SDCARD-0 was the internal memory, not a real sdcard.
Boot OS already rooted.

I have tried a lot of root tool, but it still doesnt work. So all we have to do is wait for the developers to make a it

I just updated to EU retail and I'm in the same situation. None root tool worked
For XT910 devices there is currently no way to get root. It is only possible for XT912 devices.
To gain root access during JB update you should have protect root with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. That works.

Well. I've updated from nonEFIGSRetail.en.EU to Retail.en.EU using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2194825. Root did not survive this.
Maybe there is some more root user friendly process, but it is not easy to find the correct one.

Damn! Now I can't restore all my apps and data using Titanium Backup. I did try the method from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710871
...and it did say success, but during the process it came up with "system/bin/sh su not found" and TB says it has no root access. It worked when I was on ICS, but now I am on JB 4.1.2 System Version 982.124.14.XT910.Retail.en.AU. Anybody with bright ideas on how to gain root access again would be much appreciated!

Actually, there is a way, but only if you aren't on the JB bootloader. When I wrote my comment, I thought, you just have to flash again (also with JB bootloader). In the meantime, I learned that it seems to be prevented to switch to a lower version.
Sorry for any confusion...

Thx for the hint. I (personally) don't need root, but it would be interesting to read. I'm on Gentoo, so should be ok. Could you post the link? I know, I'm lazy
Found it The exploit is an ELF, but it should be possible (in principle) to create a Windows binary also, shouldn't it?

i did this with a live cd on my laptop to see if it worked and it did, my main pc is ubuntu anyway but a friend was too scared to try it on his laptop with live cd so i did it to show him and he rooted his very quickly

Please Help. RAZR MAXX JB 4.1.2 bricked.

Hello Razr people,
I have Chinese Razr maxx with Blur_Version.67.213.6.XT910.ChinaRetail.en.CN.zip OTA installed.
CDT might have been 5. But still I managed to root with a chinese root method.
Everything was fine until I went outside China.
None of the sim cards I tried were working. And in China, apart from China Telecom, everything else was working.
So I thought, maybe I should try the GSM patch with the magic code patch given in XDA in some other thread.
Hence I went into BMM recovery, installed the patch. rebooted the phone.
And it didn't start at all for like 30 minutes. It was stuck with M logo and blinking every now and then.
Hence, I decided to factory reset from stock recovery. Still it's the same.
And now I think I cannot flash it back to JB, as it was an OTA, and there's no firmware for flashing.
as CDT might have gone higher, I can't even go back to ICS.
I am new to all this, but I have spent a lot of time in reading all this info and now I'm stuck wondering what can i do if JB with higher CDT got bricked?
Please Please guys, I really need help with this,
Thank you very very much in advance. I really really appreciate it.

Thanks. However, I was wondering can I still flash the ICS fastboot after having the JB OTA installed that too with higher CDT?
I still have BMM coming when I boot the phone.
So I am afraid of fastbooting the ICS file and loosing even BMM.
Please let me know what do you think is the best option?
A
1. Flash ICS flastboot of Chinaretail.
2. Upgrade via the zip file of the 4.0.4 OTA
3. Update via zip to ChinaRetail JB 4.1.2
or
B
1. Install a custom rom like AOKP on 2nd rom/system slot (Will it work though?)
Thank you very much.

In ya case i believe both method are wrong and wont work on ya razr .
For first method :
Just flash the appropriate china fastboot via rsd and then apply jellybean ota.zip from stock recovery .
Ya don't have to flash ics ota.zip ,just fastboot would work to update ya phone to jellybean
Second method :
Ya can't install akop or cm10 unless ya not on jellybean .
So first update ya phone to jellybean and then root (if root exploit is available for Chinese jellybean ) ,
Install ss or bmm ,
Partition and install custom roms on 2nd or 3rd slot
Thx

Hey man,
Thanks a ton. I got AOKP 4.2.2. JB installed in slot 2 and it's working flawlessly.
However, I cannot access the network provider. So there is no mobile network.
My phone is unlocked.
Another strange thing is that, in the settings menu, the IMEI number is 000000000 ...
Now that is not possible as far as I know.
Any idea as to what I can do to get the network and make phone calls?
Thanks again for all your help.

Hey man, I tried to install the baseband from the previous OTA that was on my phone ... and another Baseband from Chinese JB Fastboot.
However, still no network or no imei.
I am currently in India, so does it mean I will have to find an indian baseband?
Also, AOKP is installed via BMM in rom slot system 2.
Can that be a problem?
I was wondering if I tried to flash with a Chinese JB fastboot via RSDLite, will it flash through properly?
Cause then at least I can send my phone to motorola and ask them about the network issue.
Thanks so much though. Seriously. You are a saviour.

No ya don't have to flash Asian retail jellybean ota beacause ya are on Chinese kernel ,ya may stuck on fastboot if ya flash Asian retail on ya razr unless ya don't erase ya cid .
I just can't understand why ya getting network issue even after flashing all the baseband. Damn !!
Try to flash Indian baseband it may help ya .
Nah flashing any custom rom on another slot doesn't affect stock slot at all akop or cm10 is not the issue .
Edit : flashing different region kernel and bricking ya phone and send it to service centre wont help ya at all beacsue they ll come to know that ya tried to flash it illegally so ya warranty no more void . As ya saying ya in India and using Chinese xt910 ,service centre ll not accept it so ya need to go back to China and give it there for fix

Motorola noob here in need of some guidence!

So I've always had HTC's and recently had a One X, but decided to sell it due to no micro-sd slot. I had a backup phone, Samsung Infuse 4G (which I'm using now as a daily) and read up and learned about it and about rooting it, since it was another world from what I was originally used to. Now, coming to the Razr forums, I find myself even more lost than I was on the Infuse forum coming from HTC! I currently own the latin american (latam) Claro Razr Maxx running ICS out of the box, and what I pretty much want to know is about rooting it, sim-unlocking it and (if possible) flashing a jb ota (ICS doesnt really cut it...).
So, from what I managed to read and understand, I first need and have to use the "EPRJ_EasyRootICS_MultiOS_v1.5" to root it (pretty easy according to the video).
As fas as sim-unlocking, I believe the only method is through eBay, paying for the unlock code and sending in my IMEI? (Always been against sending my IMEI, but well.... I have AT&T, so....)
Finally, ROM's... I read that I can ONLY flash latam (latin american) based ROM's, and I didn't manage to fing a jb ota for the latam version (unless I didn't look hard enough??).
So, what I really want to know is if I'm on the right path or if there's something else I should know about to achieve what I need.
Thanks in advanced!!

ok firstly you can update to jb using RSD lite and the fastboot files. for the firmware you currently have. i'll get you the link in just a moment. secondly sim unlocking is not like it is in samsung but you can just pay to get it unlocked.
root for jb is only available on linux there is a thread in development section on it will get you that as well in a moment, you can flash any roms as long as you dont flash cdma by accident. this can be confirmed by other members if possible but im very very sure 99% sure that you can flash gsm roms doesnt matter what region and we dont have a gsm patch yet for cdma roms yet so when we do you can flash cdma roms with gsm patch as well. ok. now let me get you the links
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231289
this link above is for firmware you will need to download and use rsd lite version 6.0 to flash to get to jb and remember there is no way back to ics once you do that.
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246747
this one is for rooting once you have jb. for now its only linux you can sideload ubuntu then delete or wait till they release a windows type method.
good luck

Thanks bro, and I will do it too! I was counting on doing it the moment I replied but looks like im gonna have to wait till friday to flash jb and attempt to root it with that method.. Still, thanks for ur help too!
So finally I have free time!! I rooted my XT910 with easyrootics, so now I'm rooted. Now, I have a doubt about RSD Lite... How exactly do I use it? I mean, I connected the phone via USB but it really didn't do anythin to let me know it detected my Maxx... Also, I clicked the button to browse for the firmware .xml.zip file and chose do decompress it (only option available to click) and it seemed to do so fine, but I really don't know what to do from there... There's a button that says "Start" at the top, next to the browse button, but I wasn't sure if that's the next step. What do I do next?
Just install the motorola drivers for ya PC and install it and then connect ya phone to the PC it will automatically install all the appropriate drivers of RAZR maxx now once ya done with installing all the drivers . Switch off ya phone ,press both vol- and vol+ at a time and power botton , it ll take ya to the bootloader jist press vol- down and select fasboot (on 3rd no. ) and press vol+ to selct that .
Now open rsd lite and ya can find ya phone model in it connecting into fastboot mode now decompress the .xml fasboot file and hit the flash rsd lite ll start flashing . Ya cell phone ll restart 2or3 times during flashing
Once ya see done in rsd lute just disconnect ya phone from usb now go into the stock recovery and do full wipe data and caches.
Profit
Thx

EDIT: finally, would u recommend flashing one of the jb firmwares or one of the rom .zip's instead? or is my only option flashing the firmware? cause i was thinkin of this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2234934
The link ya attached is not actually firmwares, thats a custom rom made from stock rom . Yeah ya can flash that as well if ya have root privilege.
Just read the op and requirements before flashing the rom because its saying ya need to be on ....................latam (xml).
So check out ya system version in about phone if it matches go ahead to flash that rom . Thx

aaah i see now.. so basically if i wanna flash that rom i gotta do the same thing u said but with the latam firmware stated on the op? cause the one i was gonna flash originally via rsd lite is also latam, but from canada and 4.1.2... i understand it just has to be latam, so im guessing using the one in the rom thread's op instead of the canada one would do the same thing except keep me on ICS as stated on the op so that i can then flash the 4.1.2 rom?
also, just an fyi, my device's build number is 6.7.2-180_SLC-34 and the firmware on the op's build number is 6.7.2-180_SLC-35
also, my firmware configuration is GAS_LA_SPYDERICSCLALALA_P034 and the firmware on the op's is SPYDERICSRETBRLA, both of em LATAM so im guessin i should be ok flashin that firmware on rsd lite?? so many questions... lol im sorry, just tryin to be 100% sure, i rlly dont wanna mess up this phone.. i love it!
EDIT: as of now, im rooted on ics 4.0.4 and have bmm installed... i just booted into the custom recovery and did a full backup... u never know when its gonna come in handy lol
