[Q] Replacing phone, already unlocked bootloader... - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I am in the process of exchanging my phone due to stuck pixels (via mail) but have already unlocked my bootloader, rooted, etc. Has anybody been "busted"? I am still under my 14 days.

I've swapped out two phones in the last three weeks, both of which were rooted and rom'd. I did this in store but if you have a hardware issue, I don't think they will even bother to check.

Depends on the place/person. Some people won't check, some might. You never know until you get one who does.
The warranty department/service centers usually do more throughout checks of a device.

[Q] why do some Tabs has unlock padlock icon?

I want to know why does it happened to some Tabs that they have unlock padlock icon on the boot screen. Does it mean the tab was sold to someone and he unlocked it and returned the tab where is bought from and samsung repacked and ship it back to store? Or is it a I/O version and they just changed the back casing? I have unlock padlock icon and i am curios is it a returned item and samsung repacked it?

they are being sold with unlocked bootloaders, or alteast some are. the ones form the 8th in nyc were all locked where these are what I am seeing mostly all unlocked
Yep, Just got one from Best Buy last week and its got the unlocked padlock when it boots.
Bought one a week ago from amazon that was locked. It sucked and was broken anyway so they replaced it. Now I got a unlocked one that's works hreat so far. I must say though. Even after 1.4ghz overclock my evo still scrolls smoother lol. Both devices seem laggy as hell
"hold on to your dookie, its about to get spooky"
Best buy units all seem unlocked.

Yes it is... Mine was locked too from bestbuy.
I have 2 16GB one white, the other grey both bought at Best Buys (two different Best Buys) both locked.
Personally, if you're within your return period, I'd return the unit as defective.
If people who are paying the same price as you from the same vendor and getting an unlocked device, you should be too. A locked bootloader should be considered a defect when quite a few units from the exact same retailer are unlocked.
But for real, where's the disadvantages about a locked bootloader if you're able to install CWM recovery? - You can install a new kernen/rom, so everything is fine with a locked device. I just don't get it.

More likely to accidentally brick for one.
And it's also "speaking with your wallet" - If you just lie down and take it, Samsung will be more likely to lock bootloaders in future devices.
I'd like to see that conversation take place...
"I'm returning this. It's defective."
"Oh, I'm sorry. What is wrong with it?"
"The bootloader is locked. I want one with an unlocked bootloader."
"The what? I don't know what that means... Let me get my manager"

[Q] should i send in on warranty

Just looking for some opinions and advise here. Got my attic on Craigslist about 6 months back. Was plagued with reboots and having to pull battery a lot. Unlocked it and started flashing anything and everything trying to fix (roms, radios, kernels, cm7, cm9 etc) . Finally settled on neutrino. But still rebooted and froze. Installed wakelock and now works fine. Just found out phone is still under warranty with Motorola. Should I send back or live with wakelock not letting my phone go into deep sleep.
And my wife's attic was also bought off Craigslist. Hers worked great until last update (she is on pure unmolested stock not even ROOTED). Now it reboots, constantly disconnects from wifi, proximity censor issues. Should I send hers back now or wait and hope next update fixes.
My warranty up in October hers in November.
UPDATED: WIFES FIXED. NEED TO GET MINE TO STOCK
I would use the warranty.
On both. I am pretty sure will send hers in. Mine being unlocked worries me a bit. Is going to suck using old backflip while phone gets repaired. Bought these cash so no contracts but from what I have read Motorola will service without receipts.
I would try warranty on locked non-rooted phone. My personal opinion is if you root and unlock it is your problem. We all know(or at least should) the risks that are involved.

I briefly read the warranty. If I remember correctly they don't cover damage done by using other software. And since I had the prob before the software didn't cause prob. Oh and how did you get a straighttalk logo. I don't remember it being an option. 45 unlimited* rocks
Nevermind found straighttalk. Of course after I buy 2 e71's. Just for the sims they start selling them for like 15$…oh well
If you try to send it in the worst they can say is no.Watch tethering and/or laptop dock usage, I have recently received calls from Straight Talk about my data usage.Last month they throttled my data so much the last two weeks that pandora wouldn't even load.
I haven't tethered since my alltel days. Then Verizon got ahold of them. Had to go with straighttalk. Saves me about 60$ a month on my not smart Verizon plan with 2 phones

I'm pretty much in the same situation. How did you get the info on the Motorola provided warranty? Thanks

Send both in under warranty. When you unlock the bootloader is states "MAY" void warranty. I haven't heard of anyone yet being refused warranty for an unlocked bootloader. To the contrary, the forums are full of people having no issues. Some people have received replacement phones which they cannot unlock however, so it seems Motorola is trying to prevent anyone in the future unlocking again.

Send in both. Turnaround time with Motorola is actually quite fast, and they should have them two or 3 days max.
I sent in my bootloader unlocked Atrix already (digitizer issues) , but I did use a method found here on XDA to hide the unlocked text from the boot screen.
Good luck.

Sending in wife's soon. I may try a factory reset with hers first. Forgot that I haven't tried that since they updated. I don't mess with her phone much. I am going to get mine back to stock and send it in when hers gets back (only have one backup phone)
Factory reset didn't help. Sent in. It arrived at motorepair friday
Send in both.
On the unlocked one, just flash back to stock. Very simple. Takes 5 minutes. Hides the unlocked text, and "re-locks" the bootloader.
Did that for mine, and Motorola replaced it.
What's the warranty lemgth on these?
One year, but the service rep told me that on this issue if it is not to long over they warranty it anyway.

Sent in wife's phone. It should be back tomorrow. A bit anxious to see if it was fixed or replaced or still messed up. Will post after tested
You can check the service status on the website and it will tell exactly what they did regarding your case.
Good guy moto
I had to send mine in for warranty repair once, I didn't read about the proper way to unlock the bootloader back in the day. Even while rooted with a custom ROM they did a warranty replacement. Hopefully yours comes back okay with no issues.
well the wife's phone is back today. still has same issues. the ones i know of are not connecting to wifi without rebooting. proximity sensor issues. and there is a error force close message that keeps coming up. gues I call moto tomorrow. Back to repair shop in mexico hurray:silly:

If you can find any dead spots with the touch screen, that is another big issue with the atrix.

Warranty exchange after htcdev unlock

Has anyone done a warranty exchange after unlocking their device? Were you charged?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I brought my phone into Telus last week after re-locking and returning to stock by running the RUU, and just got a call yesterday letting me know that there is a charge due to unauthorized software installed or something. So yeah, unlocking pretty much voids the warranty.
I don't understand... How did you relock? Without being s-off isn't devunlock a perm thing?

Odd, I've had the exact opposite experience with Telus. I've had my phone unlocked since day one and I bought a extra charger off ebay and something must have been messed with it as I made sure the voltage and mah was correct. Upon plugging it into my phone it basically just fried the battery and maybe something on the board I never really got a real answer from Telus. I brought it into the store and they just took it even after I told the dude I had rooted it and stuff, he just said it's mostly up to HTC if they want to repair it and that he wouldn't say anything. A week later my phone came back and the replaced the battery, main board, and sim tray for some reason. I didn't get charged for anything but its probably because they couldn't even power it on to see.

Just run fastboot oem lock in command prompt and it is re-locked then suitable RUU can be run to return to stock.
Ah yes that is right it will just say tampered

I returned it to stock following Hasoon2000's guide in the stickied post:

No dice, I'm picking up my phone and will either deal with the problem or replace soon.

It appears to vary based on the store and who you happen to interface with.
The safest way is to do an S-Off, remove the tampered notice, modify the splash screen, and then lock it. But that is a lot of steps, some of them a bit risky if done wrong.
Unlocked as in carrier? If you bought it from tmo, then it should still be covered unless you did something else to void the warranty. If you mean bootloader, then that voids the warranty so you're probably gonna get hit with a fee, maybe on the back end.
FWIW, I had no trouble getting my last One replaced for a stuck pixel despite bootloader unlock. I took it to a store and had the rep there initiate the exchange, though I still had to receive the replacement in the mail since I bought it online. Before sending it in I just nandroided back to stock and flashed stock recovery and that was it. I was worried for a while that they would hit me with some extra fee because of my unlocked bootloader, but it's been over a month and nothing.
I'm guessing since I had a super-obvious hardware problem (stuck pixel) nobody bothered to do a thorough check., but getting S-OFF and fixing everything to look locked is probably safer.

Warranty after unlock-bootloader

I have unlocked my bootloader for P769, brought Feb 2013 from T-mobile and running AntonX's CM 10.1.
This morning, the phone went dead. Symptom now: the phone appears to be off (no screen, no led light), not responding to power or home key, not responding to charging or connect to a PC. I already tried take out battery and then put it back: nothing.
This phone looks somehow defective once I installed CM: it was never able to run at 1200 MHz even if I increase voltage. After some experiment, I settled with most default settings from AntonX's CM 10.1: 300 MHz min 1008 MGz max frenquency, a little bit under-voltage (comes with CM 10.1, no further tinkering form me), 600 MGz max frenquency when the screen is off (seems to be more stable comparing to leave this setting unchanged, as occasionally the phone reboots by itself), no OC on GPU.
Anyone would like to suggest what should I do? I can try LG's warranty since the phone is less than 1 year old, but they might reject it as the bootloader is unlocked, and not it is loaded with CM (no way for me to even flash back to stock as nothing indict it will turn on). Any other thing I should try? Thanks.
I guess they won't try repairing it as its under warranty.. they might just replace it immediately. Unlocked bootloader = warranty void btw.
Thanks. I probably will try my luck with LG repair service.
Just find out that, with the battery out, connect USB to a Windows computer will result in device "omap4430" continuously show up then disappear. But is it disappear in seconds, no way for me to use fastboot to flash anything. With the battery in, even this won't show up.
Well I'm using my replacement. The last one had an unlocked bootloader too. Sounds like my last L9 had the same issue is yours. None could detect that my phone had an unlocked bootloader cause it was completely dead, as in like hardbricked. I don't even know how it happened, i was running a Wind Mobile rom. It just died out of nowhere. I took it to a T-Mobile store and they put another battery in it. They tried to charge it, nothing worked. So they sent me a replacement

Thanks. I will try that too. :good:
I have talked with my local T-mobile store. Being a prepaid customer, I have to mail the phone to TMO before they can give me a replace (in a couple of working days). I have mailed my dead phone in. Cost me $5. Hoping things goes well (they don't reject the exchange as I have CM 10.1 on the phone). Figures corssed!

You could have probably still wiped it with the unofficial fastboot. Anyways, it shouldn't matter. They should replace it.
