Hello Everyone,
I have finally rooted and unlocked my bootloader for my HTC One. Therefore, I am planning to either add a ROM or flash a new kernel onto my device. Prior to going into recovery mode and doing this, must a backup all of my apps and data? If so, what backup application do you use?
Thanks for all your help.

Questions belong in Q and A! But use titanium back up always works for me.
MAKE A NANDROID and then flash till your heart's content
Use titanium for your app backups. Never restore system data. When you get into recovery a nandroid is a good idea in case your new rom derps you can restore yur phone to the exact condition with apps that it was in before you entered recovery.

I just installed Rom Manger. I want to do a Nandroid backup before I do any ROM flashing in the future, long future. Do I have to have ClockworksMod installed to do a Nandroid backup?
Is it a risky thing to install or "flash" ClockworksMod without having a Nandroid backup?
Sorry if this question is asked too much. I am just being VERY careful about doing anything without a Nandroid backup yet. I couldn't find anything related to my question.
Thanks
You need a custom recovery to do a nandroid backup.
I would recommend however you use one of the older CWM version or Amon Ra.
The CWM version 3.x and up have been known to mess up your SD-EXT.
If your not running SD-EXT don't worry about the later part of this post.

soo I need to have CWM? I guess this is more of a confirmation question. Is there big risk in installing or "flashing" CWM onto my phone? Or is that low risk and necessary?

No big risk, ROM manager make it easy.
well this is just the part i dont understand about android.. why would a backup need a custom recovery? i meant it is just a backup.. i think all android stock ROM should come in stock with the same kind of custom recovery that permits nandroid backup.. it would be much easier that way dont you think?

Ok, did it, no problem. I'll let you know how the back up goes. Is there a big risk in that?
Sorry if I seem paranoid, I just don't want a $640 brick. I can get one off the sidewalk where I live for free!
It's perfectly safe to do a nandroid backup. The reason it's not a feature of stock software is that it requires Root access, and handset makers don't want us end users to have that much control over our devices.

Just did it, no problem. Off topic, why don't the companies want use to be able to fully control our devices? Microsoft has no problem with it with their products.
Dear Sirs,
is there any way to follow in order to get from my Android Smartphone a complete backup that will contains everything and to be able using some way to restore in as bare metal? If there is such way please give me a detailed explanation or where there is a good how-to. Newbie here
Thanks a lot in advance
P.S. I want to test some custom ROM's for my smartphone but I want to have a sure way to return it at the previous state with stock ROM apps and data ALL back to "stock".

Use Recovery ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.6. With this application you can make a full backup.

It ain't no application
And it depends upon his phone model that if CWM is available for him or not. If it is, then you can easily backup everything.

Congrats on the new phone and root! Now, what method did you use to root? Have you unlocked the bootloader as well? Have you installed a custom recovery? Do you have everything backed up? It will be reset with the new rom.
Looks like there is a lot more action for this phone over @ Modaco forums. http://www.modaco.com/forum/743-huawei-ascend-g510-development/

Well, depends on if you need or want to back up anything. There are tons of backup apps in the Play Store and depending on how much and what you need to save, some options are better than others.
For recovery: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/170
If you use the GooManager app, I believe it has an option to reboot to recovery as well. In recovery, make sure to backup your current rom and follow the directions in the post of the rom you are looking at for install instructions.

I would reccommend dev edition since you are using at&t, since I have seen problems when using wwe firmware on at&t (my own expeirience with my m8) and as long as you stay stock and don't modify anything you can use OTA, or backup system image so you can restore it before doing OTA

Yea but if you make a system image backup before you modify the system I believe you can restore it and flash stock recovery to do an ota, you might wanna read the twrp recovery thread it talks about it and more there

Actually I have converted into Dev Edition and I received the OTA. I then rooted with TWRP and then put back to stock. My question is If I want to change the system to S-ON, will it be fine? How to proceed further?
also how to make a system back up with either titanium pro or the TWRP...which all should I select.
Can you guide me with it?

should be fine if you change to s-on you just wont be able to flash any firmware anymore, just leave it s-off till you end up having to send it for repair or something. To make a system backup, kinda new at this too but I kept reading the threads, when you first boot twrp it should tell you if you want to mount system, select no
then do a backup and select system image, not system, and your data partition
The "System" option is the standard tar backup. The "System Image" option is only relevant if your system is unmodified. This allows you to make a fully stock backup that can be restored later to take an OTA.
NOTE: If you are using a FAT32-formatted card, a "System Image" backup will fail, due to the 4GB file limit on that format. For a successful System Image backup, NTFS or exFAT-formatted storage must be used (either SD card or USB-OTG)
Again, before doing anything you should go read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3066720 so you do everything correctly
but as long as you make a system image backup before ever mounting system in twrp you should be fine, just restore it and flash stock recovery and you should be good to ota
guy you're not enjoying your HTC M9. I have heard about HTC M9. It simply awesome too. How did you like this?

ah, okey guys. Thank you!
Alright, I've received the email as the title implies but here are the questions I have before I proceed into the whole process
Is there a way to backup the stock image without TWRP? if so how do you get the stock image backed up if it's impossible how to back up the stock bootlover/recovery before installing TWRP if I were to get rid of TWRP one day?
also is it possible to just root the system without flashing anything to avoid data loss? this would be the preferred option actually, thanks! (Using the be2028 t-mobile version, if there's a premade backup that'll be cool too.)

I am just getting back to messing around with phones after about 5 years. So many things have changed and I am trying to get answers here as well.
I used TWRP and Magisk to root my phone. Installing TWRP will not wipe your data as it is flashed to a different partition but to install TWRP you have to unlock the bootloader and that will wipe your userdata. And no, I don't believe there is any possibility of rooting without unlocking the bootloader. If you decide you want to go back to stock, there are stock roms available and you can re-lock the bootloader on the N10 so you should be able to set it back to just like it was when you first bought it. I say should because I have never done it, just read that it can be done when I unlocked and flashed mine.
I wish I could be of more help but so many things have changed in the years since I've been away from doing this stuff I feel like a total noob again.

No I do not believe there's a way to gain root without flashing anything. There's no need to backup anything you can always use the MSM download tool to restore your device. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...l-to-restore-your-device-to-oxygenos.4204445/ You should be able to find most of the stock imgs on here already if you'd really need to flash back. I'm no expert either, just my experience with this phone in particular has been pretty straightforward. I never backed up anything lol.
Twrp is iffy i made a backup I'll never use, check out the post about flashing international rom to tmo and metro devices, that's my backup. Also you can run 11.0.3/2 firmware and boot 11 gsi's the post about lir rom has the info. Flash the product_gsi.img referenced there, I have never deleted my product partition and I only leave oos ten installed long enough to take ota's. There are more roms in the source forge page referenced with lir rom post. Flash magisk via recovery, either side load or twrp, pay attention that it flashes partition sda14(super image) or wifi breaks.
