Ray CM 9/10 camera example - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hey,
Im really thinking of switching from stock ICS on my Ray to either CM9,10 or 10.1. That being said I use my phone for calls, messagins, browsing and because of its CAMERA. The phone still has warranty so I am a bit hesitant especially because Im not so sure camera is close to being any good on CM mods compared to stock.
I got a question, more like a friendly request... Could anyone with the following versions post pictures taken on his Ray with any of the Cyanogenmod versions listed above?
Id be really grateful... For recording, as far as I know, all the CM versions record only 460p but I guess I could live with that...
Many thanks!

is it worth it to root and upgrade to ics?

I got a 10.1 wifi recently and am wondering if its worth it to root now and get ics installed (with the -of no camera) or to wait untill samsung gets its act together, and get the offical version.
You're asking in an Android Hacking forum, we're all rooted and I'd bet 80% are running ICS .
If you can live without the camera then definitely go for it, if you're comfortable. You could be waiting a while on Samsung, they tend to delay such things.
If do decide to root it, don't be afraid to ask questions here. Welcome to XDA.
I don't know if the question asked is appropriate or a trick question considering this forum is completely dedicated to the benefits of hacking to gain maximum benefit.

It's really not very hard to try it out for yourself and see if you like it. You can always flash back to stock if you need to.
I have CM9 ICS on my personal tablet, but am still using 3.2 on my G-Tab 10.1 because I need the camera for work. I am running the Overcome ROM on it though, which gives me a little more options/flexibility than stock samsung.
but as far as performance, there is little difference between 3.2 HC and ICS (at least at this point). There are some UI differences that I like, but they are minor changes from honeycomb, so don't expect a huge difference on ICS.
Easy answer: yes, it is. And it's very easy to install ics. Just do it and have fun.
Three more questions:
Is there any other bugs besides the camera not working?
And any links to upto date root and ics (i think i read 4.0.4?)?
Is it not possible to get the camera drivers (which from what I have read is the missing link) from the old stock version?
Fyi I have the Samsung 10.1 wifi gt-p7510
Thank you guys already I am not trolling btw i have never rooted/ flash a new operating system on android and kind of afraid of bricking my tablet.

QBKing77 has great video instructions on YouTube, check it out. Very easy. Make sure you do a backup b4 putting a rom on and make sure it's for your Tab. Only issue I have ever had is no camera, but I knew that going in and I use my S2 for pics anyway. We can't get the camera because Sammy will not release the needed info. You can brick your tablet that's a risk but there r ways to unbrick, like I said just make sure the root method and from is for your version of the Galaxy Tab.

Once rooted you wont look back and its so easy and quick to do. Much more freedom IMO, I started with ICS and its great, but went back to HC just because of the camera. Such a shame, I have htc dhd phone rooted on ics and camera works fine, just a samsung thing.
As said previously, give it a try
Question about rooting what dose it allow you to do?
Rooting allows you to gain access to the system files, lets just say its like your employee ID to get into your company
i rooted my g tab to ics once, i guess it was worth it, but i went back to honeycomb because of the camera.
It's not like camera on a tab plays a great feature, because taking pictures with the tab is like using a laptop to take a 5MP picture.
I'd say I never use the camera on my tab.......... Until I flashed ics then I just kept needing it think it's just a case of wanting what you don't have.. So I'm back to HC.
Is there any good roms out there with the camera working? Sorry for the noob question, Im a new tab owner.

I use the camera with visidon which lets me face lock certain apps, also lets me make video calls and google goggles to translate foreign signs so yeah camera is a must have for me and not necessarily for taking pictures

Sorry to bump this, but I'm curious to know if it's easy to replace the tablet for a decent price? That's really my only concern about rooting my tablet.
Of course it is, you are in the right place
i havent flashed the 10.1 to ICS purely because i use the camera for such things as skype or google hangouts.
so im using overcome rom, but i miss being able to group apps into a folder like ICS can do
ICS Or Not??? That is the Question!!!!
Over the last 6 months I have tried every ROM listed for the Galaxy Tab here on XDA, including ICS. I must say ICS offers better battery life, faster processing and better visuals, but I am like a few others and need the camera so I am sticking with Galaxy Task Rom. Out of all of them it is the most stable, and fastest giving me Quadrant Scores of just under 3100. Using ICS I was closer to 3600 and I thought at one point hit 3800, but I think that was a fluke, but then I had no camera, so back to 3.2. For me I have compiled the best apps I could to make my tablet a screamer.....If you have any others please let me know.
Galaxy Task
OC 1.4 Pershoot Kernel (is there a 1.5 or 1.6)
Swapper File @ 500mb (app)
SD Speed Boost set at 4000 (app)
Volume + set on Beats Emulation with +10 speaker increase (app)
Poweramp for a 10 band equalizer for great sound (app)
Now using the same apps with ICS made it ultra fast. But I wish the camera worked.
Definately appreciate everyone on here with their input.....my knowledge is only as good as flashing and recovery, but am trying to learn more as I move forward. Love the Galaxy Tab, it is my 10th tablet I have owned and my favorite. Now I have to figure out how to flash my Atrix 2 phone........love this site!!!!
Quick ques about ICS Roms [from what I've seen in Cm9/Muiu]
1. can you change screen mode [dynamic/movie/normal]
2. change font styles?
I don't remember seeing these options, but it was about a month ago when I flashed these Roms?

[Q] I have rooted but...

So Ive rooted my Atrix4g, and I want to unlock my bootloader.
I understand the plus of doing this, and realize I cant turn back once this is done.
So I know this has been beat to death but...
Will I regret doing this?
Assuming I want a ICS Rom I have notice that they all have some slight bugs reported. Do I wait for the official Rom to be deployed, or do you think all the bugs will be worked out by the time it is released.
Also when it is released will it be able to be flashed.
All these Questions are for a noob to the Atrix.
Any and all discussions will help.
Please don't try to convice me just some input of your experience.
ie* your favorite rom, things you wish was better... why you unlocked the bootloader. ect...
Thank you everyone your all very helpful.
It comes down to if you are bored with stock or not. Personally I believe that all Android phones should have an unlocked BL. Sure most people are not power users like us, but the "option" should still be available.
Anywhoo I would highly recommend for starters to go with CM7after you unlock. See what you like and what you don't like and then give the ICS ROMS a shot and go from there...

How buggy are the ICS ROMs actually? I assume jokersax's CM9 ROM is the most stable. Is there a overview somewhere of what doesn't work on it? Or would someone be willing to list it for us? (The topic has 850 pages, so that's kind of hard to work through).
I'm considering buying an Atrix (European version) and I'd like to know if I'd be able to use the incredibly smooth ICS experience like on this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQvrEH74dgI or if the reality isn't going to be that sweet
The Atrix ICS experience these days is a very smooth & enjoyable one. The few bugs that remain are video camera issues, but Videocam Illusion from the playstore works ok. Still camera fc's once in a while but works upon restarting the app. Browser will crash when rotated, but works fine if you stay portrait or landscape. These niggles aside, ICS is great! Have tried Jokers CM9, AOKP & MIUI. Currently running Leo's AOKP, I like the added customization options that it offers over CM9.
EDIT: BTW, once the official ICS for Atrix is released, I'm sure all of these bugs will be worked out.

CM9 on GS3 features?

I know CM9 nightlies have started rolling out for the american GS3 but i wanted to know if features like smartstay and camera burst mode have remained. These 2 features i would give up even for CM. Also besides that, anything else has changed from lets say the CM9 i had on my skyrocket?

CM9 is mostly universal across all devices..it is pure, vanilla Android, how Google designed in. So no, it will not have any Samsung added on features, including smartstay or camera burst.
well then, no CM9 for me! Unless someone releases a CWm flashable zip to add those features
I don't think that's possible as those features require touchwiz to operate.

"Smart Stay" has already been replicated by a 3rd-party app call ISeeYou, which I'll probably install once I flash CM10, since it'll probably NEVER make it into CM proper.
And as far as burst mode goes, there's many other camera apps to choose from if you want that. Personally, I rarely ever find a use for burst (though, I admit i thought it was neat that it picked out the "best" pic from 8 burst pics i took of my kid throwing water up in the air)

i always use burst...only when i need flash i dont. I like th fact that i have 8 versions of the same pic and i can make sure nobody has they eyes closed or some kind of other that would ruin my picture.
I guess ill have to stick with stock this time, anyways, with a good launcher, its not like if its that bad. Just waiting for a one click root so i can freeze some apps

Hi guys,
didn´t find another thread regarding CM9 focussing on the camera issue ... so ... I´ve installed CM9 07/16/2012 having still the camera issue after installing the files from 07/12/2012 (and setting the perms to the correct settings). Does anyone has the same problem and solved it? I´m using a AT&T SGH-I747. Help is appreciated.

[Q] Front facing camera AND microphone on JB for P7510? ***Yes Experimental***

Ok, please read this whole post before flaming me.
I have a Galaxy Nexus. I've been running Jelly Bean for 4 months and love it. Settled in on CodeName Android. Great ROM. I install the nightlies.
I would like to put JB on my Tab but without a front facing camera it's a non-starter. A deal breaker.
16 months ago when I first got my Tab I used to check here several times a day and kept up to date. However, things settled in and I didn't need as much help on the tab. Now, I only come to the XDA forums about once a week. In fact, the only reason I come is to see if the front facing camera is working on JB. However, there's a ton of messages and it takes a long time to read them all just to find that one post that tells me it's not working yet.
And, I've noticed a dramatic hostility toward anyone who even asks about the front facing camera. Most people, like me, I imagine have just given up asking the question for fear of being flamed to death.
I was hoping that I could have this thread just to answer Yes or No, and which ROM has it going if the answer is Yes. It would not only help me, but many others that search through threads to find the answer. If, and when, the front facing camera is working it could be posted here by some caring soul and I could change the title of this thread to include a big ***YES***. That way those annoying queries with regard to the front facing camera, and their equally annoying flame replies can be avoided.
Thanks in advance for the caring soul that helps us out here.
No its not working on cm10.
Yes on an experimental cm9 build.
Beezer,
Good, this shows that it's not impossible and raises hope that it will become stable some time soon.
Thanks.
Bro - you don't have to rely just on XDA you know. If you're watching for CM10 updates, you could go to droidbasement.com. If a CM10 build is posted with a working front-facing camera, it'll be in the dev's notes for SURE. Just watch the blog entries.

Thanks for the tip. I went there, it looks dead. Nothing posted since August 16. More than a month ago! Has development on Tab ROMs stopped?
Also, in the Galaxy Nexus world there are at least a DOZEN versions of ROMs and CM isn't one of the top ones. Is CM the only one working on ROMs for the Tab?
I do not think Dev has stopped. The CM team has been working hard from what I have seen to stabilize CM9 + handle other concerns such as the MMC chip issue, and focus has just recently shifted back to JB. Only a matter of time I would think.
That said I have used that 8/16 rom and other than the lack of front facing camera it is a joy to use. I prefer the ICS experience for now personally and am playing around with mods and tweaks for 4.0 so happy where I am atm.

Can somebody tell me what roms has the front facing camera works? I looked for cm9 and AOSKP but it didnt say if work or not.
Pershoot had a hardware failure (motherboard). That's why no updates yet. Go to droidbasement.com and look for the experimental cm9 builds. I forget which one has it working but it shouldn't be to hard to find.
None of JB/CM10/AOSP ROMs front facing camera works. There's one preshoot's experimental kernel a few days back that demostrated that front facing camera working, but that was messing up other stuff bad. Preshoot did not make it public it is because it is quite unstable. I also read one the forum that most developer working on CM9 RC2, some of the issues they faced during build CM9 RC2 still needs to be addressed. However what they found out is they can fix the issues on CM10 much easier than CM9, that maybe make developers to move on completely to CM10.
I believe because Google's latest JB 4.1.1 is a complete android OS, it is less buggy, and developers start to realize it is relatively much easier to develop new ROMs based on JB 4.1.1.
so I still have some hope that we should have, at least, a beta JB 4.1.1 ROM soon. In fact, other than front facing cam, I am using 4.1.1 - Jelly Bean ROM that's AOSP release (pure JB 4.1.1) that Preshoot posted and MapleSyrup took over. Even if it says Alpha release, I am very surprised how stable it is - yes there's some tiny issues here and there, and no front facing cam, but other than that for Alpha release, it is rock solid for sure.
Any news?
Update
See the general section and look for: (Rom) CM10 Build Jelly bean 4.1.1. 27.09.12 New 3.1 Kernel Unofficial
Front cam works... over and out.
Thanks for the tip. I went there and looked. Looks like the camera is working but no microphone. I use my Tab a lot for video calls. Without a mic it's useless.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll get this working.
Are we getting any closer to getting front facing camera and microphone working?
Bump. Any news? Or should I forget about it?
Pershoot had a 10/16 experimental up. Working front/rear cam, mic, it looks fairly complete so far.

Unfortunately it would seem the only thing that isn't working now on the CM build is the Keyboard dock. I am puzzled as to why this would be previously working and now broken but practically speaking it doesn't matter, I just can't use this until that issue is fixed.
Right now I'm on the Fourth Bar Rom and I must confess this Rom is so good I may not even move up to JB!

[Q] CM based ROMs and camera speed?

Hey all,
I haven't seen this discussed but I may have missed it so apologies if I did.
I love tinkering with my phone, flashing new roms, etc. And I love the features that come with many of the CM based roms. What makes them a dealbreaker though is everyone I've tried completely ruins the camera in comparison to the TW based roms. I have an 18 month old son and while the TW based roms are instant taking pictures and can catch him as he runs by, the CM based ones are literally worthless as he's not exactly keen on standing still so daddy can get a picture!
Anyone have any advice? or am I SOL and need to stick with TW?
Thanks!

I'm not really sure because I don't flash AOSP too often, but try the Google Edition S4 camera (tons of links for the apk download) and see if it's any better.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I have flashed back and forth from both and I have found there is no way that truly bridges the performance gap between the camera that TW ROMs have and AOSP ROMs. CM has a camera app called Focal that does its best to address this, but it is still not comparable.
I have also tried flashing the S4 camera on my AOSP installations as suggested above. It still does not work as well and will destabilize after a few reboots, requiring you to flash again and again.
Long story short, if you care about camera performance, stick to TW-based ROMs.
