how long do you estimate before custom roms? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

how long do you think it will be before there are custom rom candidates for replacing your stock roms? one-two months? more?

There are already aokp, aosp and cm10.1 available albeit they betaish. Im thinking a few days to a week.

Jb now or wait.

I just recently obtained a-off and have been rocking meanrom ics and have been loving my extra battery life. I am considering moving to jb but don't know whether to wait or if there are some solid options ready?

Depends on what features you are willing to give up. But in terms of stability and having a daily driver, I would hold off a little longer. Maybe try a few other ICS roms...
More just looking for battery life and performance. I like both sense and aosp. Just noticed that meanrom isn't really getting any updates.

As of right now they have a couple like aokp dirty jb and gangnam that are almost daily. The cameras are completely borked. 4g is down of course.

AOSP or Touchwiz ROMS?

I figured I would start one of these threads since I have yet to see one. So for everyone that actively switches ROMs, do you prefer AOSP or Touchwiz?

There's been several of them. I keep tw though

If you had actually browsed or read at all, you would have found a dozen of these threads. Tw all day. Aosp is good but limited for now

Bean's scratches both itches for me! :good:
I've flashed several recently, I'm currently on AOKP MR1 but I'm going to switch to Beans once build 11 comes out. I found AOKP/AOSP to be missing features, mainly in the core apps like e-mail and sms. Battery life also seems to be much worse in AOKP/AOSP, and I find there to be a few bugs, some major some minor.

There's going to be bugs in every ROM.
I found eclipse 1.4, which is built on touchwiz, to have the best aosp feel to me. It cures that aosp itch for anyone. I wish tweaked VZW was aosp themed.

ROMS THAT DONT WORK SO FAR
AOSP Source Built
CyanogenMod Nightly
Why? I'm running 10.2, the 9/23 nightly. It's rock solid as have been all the nightlies for a couple of weeks now.
Any reason to go back to a 10.1 ROM?

No reason at all. I also run the latest nightly and it is buttery smooth.

For the simple fact that this is a stable release. Just because you experience no issues in your use of 10.2 doesn't mean others who do different things with their phones don't experience issues. Software can't be considered stable based on the experience of a few users.

Very nice. Is there a general discussion thread somewhere for it? I couldn't find it. Curious if bluetooth and the IR blaster are fully functional.
Thanks

Is this only for the dev devices sold directly from Samsung?
Forgive my ignorance, I've had the Gnex for the past couple years and that was a very easy phone to mod, and my original SGS was as well. I have been reading here but I wont have the S4 until later today so I have no idea what firmware version will come on it out of the box.. The [GUIDE] stickied isn't actually a guide but a list of ROMs with no explanation of anything for beginners to this phone. Can anybody point me to a better starting point? Because I am failing miserably to find any kind of guide or wiki or truly compiled info on this device.
Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks but your post is totally irrelevant to my question, it's stable for me on my phone and that's the ONLY phone I'm able to observe, the ONLY phone I have first hand information about and the ONLY phone I inquired about.

[q] aosp roms

So ive flashed alot of TW roms. But I really want to go to aosp 4.3. What is good n stable along these lines? What kernels does AOSP have? Is it worth going from 4.1.2 to 4.3 or should I stick to AOSP 4.2 roms. All advice is welcome

The latest CM is probably the most stable AOSP kernel out there right now. I would just use the stock CM kernel though as I get some weird issues with the other kernels out there.

There is no BEST and yet they are all the BEST. Members are expected to research and read through the Development threads. The only thing you will get here is a list of all the ROM's & Kernels because every member has found what is best for them. You can get the same list by looking at the first few pages in development.

Have a great day!

custom roms

What are some pretty solid roms for our phones? I see it does have a lot to choose from like the other carriers
If your looking for an aosp ROM I suggest Temaseks Unofficial CM 11 ( http://temasek.hopto.org/?dir=Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - hlte/CM11) if your looking touchwiz I recommend sacs ROM v3
