I can't for the life of me get a deposit to go through with the HTC one with my PNC banking app to deposit a check. Keeps saying the photo isn't clear enough, both sides. I hope it's not a 4mp thing.

I doubt it's the camera. I have no trouble getting mobile deposits to go through on my wife's iPhone 4.

Hmph weird, I tried it two different days multiple times. I'll have to try it again with another check

Tell you what, if you feel like sending me a check, I will be more then happy to "test" it out for you! Just trying to help!!
But seriously, I have had issues in the past, it always seemed like there are some like super thin cheap checks that would give me issues if I did not make sure no light got through the back. It was on another phone, but I just wonder if thats any issue. 4 megapixals are more then detailed enough for something like a check. If you were going to blow it up it may be an issue, but at the size of a check I could not see it. Maybe if you make a copy of the check and try that, make it on decent thick stock if you can. Just a thought.

The difference for me when completing mobile deposits on the HTC One versus my iPhone 4i is the way the Wells Fargo app shows a preview versus how the image is actually captured. On the iPhone 4 I basically lined up the check within the four corners of the preview image and snapped the shot. 9 times out of 10 it would take it. With the HTC One if I followed the same procedure the result would be an image where the left and right parts of the check are a bit cut-off. For an check image to be acceptable it not only has to be legible but all four corners of the check must be part of the image. So I basically have to hold the One way above the check the check to ensure that the saved image contains all four corners. It looks weird as I'm framing the shot because the check looks tiny on the screen but that's worked for me every time. And I've deposited meny checks this way. Good luck, hope this helps.

I have around 4 stuck pixels. They show up on grey screens as little light dots. Gets kind of annoying watching movies when and such. Tried the jscreen fix from the market but no luck.
Is this pretty normal? What's Sprint/htc policy? Just wondering if every phone has a few. Thanks in advance?

Take it back, tell them you want an exchange due to screen defect. If it's one lone pixel I can see it being dismissible but a cluster is not good.
In the general market they usually have a dual standard.
up to X amount of pixels bad is considered within tolerance however if the pixels are adjacent then the threshold is lower so it would fail quality control.
If they give you grief just ask for a refund and rebuy it
Take it back. Its defective. They will replace it

i turned on camera in dark room and i see like 3 pixels blue/green
has anyone tried that?
i tried my friends , turning on camera in completely dark room and didnt see any pixel issues
I have found from all these devices it is pretty common to see a stuck pixel here and there. I think you have to decide how bad it is or isn't. Sure you can exchange it but then you have to keep worrying if the next one will be worse and it will then become a never ending cycle!

Curious what you re going to do? I have 1 tiny one on the side of the phone that is only noticeable in a dark room on a black background. On the fence on what to do....I went through this with my TP2 and went through 4 phones and ended up keeping the best one of all of them but still had a stuck one. Just wasn't as bad as the other 3.

That program didn't fix my issue and with the other program I noticed a total of 4 all generally in the center of the screen. I am going to have Sprint exchange and see what happens on the next one. Since yours is in the corner I would let it slide.

Good idea. I stopped by the store today and they just about laughed me and my 5 stuck pixels out of the building.....tossers.
They ran a "test" and said everything was fine and a few stuck pixels were fairly normal. I called sprint and they offered a new phone that should be here Monday. Kudos to sprint!
Hopefully the new one doesn't have the same problem.

Anybody having trouble using Quick Deposit with the 3vo? First off, I can only use the Chase camera button since the Chase app freezes up when I try to use the dedicated 3vo button. Secondly, I'm having a hell of a time taking a clear pic of the back of the check. The front of the check comes out fine.
Has anybody else tried it?
I had issues with it on the Evo4g, meaning i could take a photo, but it would not deposit. The same with my 3vo, will take a pic, but will not deposit.
Seems like the Chase app doesn't optimize the stock camera because the pictures come out a lot different. When I just use the camera, the pictures come out fine.

camera button works for me, but back of the check is ALWAYS blurry for me too. it just doesn't seem to have enough to focus on or something.
Hmmm that's odd. I use the quick deposit quite regularly without much of a hitch yet. Though I do end up retaking the photos from time to time. I have heard there is a lot of variation in camera quality in the 3vo, maybe you should take yours in?

i think the type of check makes a difference. I have deposited personal checks no problem, but payroll checks have a problem. Seems to be when the dollar amount field is different in some way...
For example, in my payroll checks the amount shows as **[amount]** and I think the asterisks are throwing it off...

That makes sense. The check I tried to deposit yesterday was a bigger size rebate check. I'll try a personal check and report back.
Answers to all these questions-
Asterisks does throw it off; hence why your having problems. Personal checks are fine.
For the blurry- Tap the screen on different locations...the camera will try and focus on the spot you tapped on. This might help the issue a bit.
For the non-deposits- If you have more than 5 over drafts or late payments on whatever in a month that feature is removed off of your account at Chase's discretion. I called Chase and that's what they told me as in why I couldn't use the quick deposit feature.
As for hardware issues......I don't know what to say, lol.

Interesting. Thanks for the tip.
Yeah the non-focusing issue happened to me last week. What I had to do was manually move the camera further back from the check so that when it did take the picture, it's focused. I don't remember how far away it was, but I think it was a good 3-4 feet. The back side image didn't match the front side image size, but it went through anyway.

LG Optimus S (Sprint) here, the latest update to this app produces pictures of checks that are so blurry that I'm unable to make deposits.
Where can I find the previous version of this app?
Thanks.
I seen the commercial and watching reviews about taking pictures with a better face feature. You should be able to put the camera into the better face feature mode and when it takes a series of 6 pictures in a row you should be able to go back and select the best of the 6 faces for each person in the picture. When I do this on my phone the review process where you select the best face for each individual from the series of the bust shot pics it took. I never get a chance to select a different face other than the one it some how choose out of the series...I'd this an issue since I'm on a rooted phone... I've only tried this with two faces in the pic at the same time any suggestions tips or tricks?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
You need too click/press on the face of each person and it will show you the faces to choose from.
When I do that or only comes up with the one choice or already picked I do not get a choice of faves to choose from...

Yes, I've been rooted for a week or so now and have restarted my phone a few times since (but not as often as i use to have to with all my previously less capible phones )
I can get this feature to work with one person (but why does iot matter when only one person is in the shot, i can pick the best of 6 from the burst feature anyway). When i have 2 subjects in the photo is where it seems to go wrong.
Well I feel like an ass I just tried it and made sure I didn't shale the phone so much and the subjects stood still and it worked like a charm.

Bought an HTC One today. The camera appears to be defective. It has trouble focusing and is always blurry on the top right-hand side quadrant of the photo.
Since I'm pre-paid and bought from an individual, should I go to T-Mobile for a warranty replacement or direct to HTC? Obviously it's under warranty since it hasn't been out for over a year.
I know AT&T were jerks about warranty claims if you didn't purchase direct from them but don't know about T-Mobile.
Thanks.

I believe you will have to go to HTC. T-Mobile will only honor it within the 14 day window for the original owner

The phone is definitely outside the 14 day window and I'm not the original owner. Guess I'll go to HTC and play that game.
The physical hardware is clearly under warranty, so hopefully they don't give me the runaround.
Before returning try changing the video resolution from super hd to hd and see if that fixes it. Then you should be able to switch it back and it should work fine. It doesn't just fix the video camera but the still camera as well.

Now you tell me. I boxed it up and shipped back today.
Here is what the average photo looked like. Just terrible. Tried a hard reset, reset the camera settings, etc. Nothing worked. I think it's just plain defective.
Night photos are grain city too. Nothing good about it at all. FYI, I had and sold an HTC One (regretted it, bought another) and the photos were fantastic. This one is just a dud (hence why the seller only asked $450 cash - now I see why).
HTC support asked me if I wiped the lens with a lint free cloth. WTF do you think, lol?
Tap to focus just didn't work. In fact, nothing worked. Every photo is terrible. I really hope HTC support doesn't give me the run around.
(my backyard - yes we have two dogs and yes their pee kills the grass, but they are worth it)
Yeah that's about what mine looked like before. I had just written HTC to find out what I needed to do the replace it. This was literally just last night. I was up late about to flash the 1.29 Rom to see if that fixed it. I looked through the settings to see if there was a way to change the auto focus settings which there only is for video. I changed the resolution setting just to see if it might help and it completely fixed it. Not sure why but it seems like it was "stuck". It may or may not have been the same as your issue but sounds like it was. Whatever though, you get a new one so it all works out.

Anyone know how fast HTC repairs/replaces and ships back? They will receive the phone today and I'm hopeful to receive it back by this weekend. Realistic?
Well, just got the phone back. Slow ground shipping!
Aaaand HTC did absolutely nothing to the phone. The pictures are all still blurry. Infuriated right now. Two weeks and they did absolutely nothing, just shipped it right back to me with no notes, no repair, nothing.
Called up HTC. Of course they have "no notes" as to what was done to the phone. Here's a tip: nothing was done.
The "escalations team" was closed so they told me to call back tomorrow.
Just so I'm not crazy, is this considered a normal "ultrapixel" photo from this phone? I just took it. Basically, the tap to focus does absolutely nothing. I'm about to unload this junk to someone else and make it their problem. I can't go a full month without a working phone as my only option is to send it in again and have the HTC techs go "yep, looks good from here" and send it right back to me again. Just replace your defective hardware guys. Not hard.
It would'nt hurt to try
The worst they would say is no. Ive heard story's of people getting replacements from t mobile in your situation, if it was a manufacturers defect. I would just go into a store and be totally polite friendly with the rep and show that your completely bummed out about your new phone not working the way it should. From my experience, kindness can go a long ways with t mobile.

Not to press the depressing issue any more..but is that pic actually a focused zoomed in shot ..meaning your actually farther away then where the picture makes it look.
Was thinking that maybe your just to zoomed in with the shot... No photo ever looks any good fully zoomed ..I usually walk up closer less zoom =clearer picture.
But its just a idea I know your mad as hell .. And I agree the photo is horrific .

That didn't fix anything for me. I finally e-mailed HTC and this was their response which also did not fix anything.
Safe Mode
1. Please turn off the phone.
2. Then briefly press the Power button to turn on the phone.
3. While the phone powers on, press and hold the Volume down button until phone loads the OS and "Safe Mode" should appear on the lower left part of the screen.
After you put it in safe mode, try using your phone, if it works perfectly, then the problem may be caused by an application your phone. Which you will need to remove the applications one by one to see which one is causing the issue. If the issue persists, please reply to this email so we can further troubleshoot and have this issue solved.
All I know is I'm about ready to sell/return this HTC One and go get the Galaxy S4. My S3 treated me fine and the camera was far superior.
Was told it's a software issue and the update isn't expected for at least a month. So until then I have a $600 phone with a useless camera. Returning this and going to the S4. Not sure why I doubted it when I loved my S3. Figured I would give HTC a try again from my Sensation 4G days but what a waste of time. I can say the build quality of the phone along with the screen were definitely the things that attracted me.
What about an exchange, since you just got it? Did you get it in store? If so .. you could test out the one they exchange it for while at the store. Mine works awesome, and many others are very happy with theirs. So it sounds like you got a lemon camera. And we all know there are some bad ones in all the phone models.

True. I actually returned it and went with the S4. I'll give HTC another shot once their next big phone comes out. I did find myself missing a bigger screen also. It may be lacking a few PPI compared to the One but it's just as nice. Thanks for the kind words guys.

I see that you already returned the One. But I do not see how it could have been a software issue. If you were stock, you should have had build 1.27.531!8. I have that build and my focus works fine. Sounds like you should have exchanged it because it was clearly defective. Too late now, though.

In my phone this strongly correlates with heat. Once the phone gets hot from being at high brightness or doing something graphically intensive it will not focus. Sometimes you can get it to work by giving it a sharp slap or pressing gently on the glass in front of the camera. If you let it cool down for a few minutes then it works. But it is definitely a physical problem.
I'm having the same issues. My first HTC One was fine but had a power issue so it was replaced with this one that will now not focus. I contacted HTC and T-Mobile and was told that there would be a software update in the future to fix the issue but there are no specified dates. I asked T-Mobile if they could exchange it since it's only 2 months old and was told I would have to wait on an upgrade or purchase at full price. I'm really not pleased about any of this.
