Alternate Root Method - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I'm about to pick up a replacement phone and I noticed that the RegawMOD root method no longer works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690919
What's the best root alternative? If there isn't one, I'll just keep the my current rooted phone. The only thing wrong with it is the accelerometer no longer works. I can live with that if it means that I won't be able to easily root the new phone.

I had two replacements myself and I followed his guide to the dot... And after root I went ahead and got s-off with dirty racun... Good luck!

Thanks, guys. I'm so used to being in the ' HTC EVO 4G LTE Original Android Development' forum and never even occurred to me to look in the OTHER Development forum for a root method.

so there is no more one click root on linux?

Buying a 3d soon and just had one question

I bought and rooted my evo when unrevoked one click was working, so my question is. Is there an easy perm root method? Or at least one coming, I'm not a noob, but I don't like two page instruction root methods, and temp root isn't worth using to me. I want it like my evo
Easy, easy recovery easy ROM flashing etc.
Whats the flashing process like with current root methods. I've seen a few roms

There is no perm root yet. Only temp root for now. Full root with S-off shouldn't be far away. A method has been developed for S-off, but hasn't been released yet. The ROMS you see in the dev section are either RUU's or developers getting ahead of the game and getting a ROM ready in anticipation of S-off.
So basically, since there is no released method for perm root yet, no one will be able to answer your question about how easy or difficult it is going to be.
There Is no perm root yet but word on the street is that it is coming soon..as far as the method I have no idea but the team is working with unrevoked so hopefully it will be painless..there are a fee roms but those are.just in anticipation of root..and nothing custom yet..either way it will be rooted relatively soon as HTC said it will be unlocked in September I.believe

[Q] difference between root methods?

Hey guys, can you explain in short and SIMPLE terms the difference regarding the results of these 2 rooting methods in the DEV Sticky:
1. [ROOT] RegawMOD EVO 4G LTE Rooter | Updated 06.04.12 Automated root
method. Unlock with custom recovery and superuser.
2. How to Root HTC Evo 4G LTE! [Windows/Mac/Linux] - by Zedomax
does one give more access or is preferable over the other? or will both give you the same result with a different way achieving it?
Help would be appreciated!!! THANKS!
I think one is just for Windows and as easy as clicking the file open, while the other is a little more complicated because you have to do a few quick commands, but it does work on all systems, Win/Mac/Linux
Could be wrong though.
edit: Woops, I think the RegawMOD will give you a custom recovery as well, while the other Zedomax just gives root.
The first method actually unlocks the device with HTC and adds a custom recovery(TWRP)so that you can flash ROMs and whatnot. The second option just roots and installs superuser and busybox.

I think Zedomax just roots your device and regawMod roots and unlocks your device with HTC dev. All depends what u want ... Root only or root and unlock
Regawmod does access the unlock features from HTC dev and will void your HTC company warranty but will allow you to install roms because it also installs a custom recovery

Edit: I don't want to spread misinformation, so I'll stay out of it.

Regaws method gives you an unlocked bootloader a custom recovery superuser and busybox. Where as zedomaxes only gives you superuser and busybox and you have to go to htcdev.com to unlock your bootloader manually to install a custom recovery of your choice. In all honesty go with regaws method its super fast and super easy its litterally one click and it runs itself. I was one his testers and it was by far the most painless root and unlock ive ever done.

What if you rooted with zedomax can you use regaws to unlock bootloader? If no, then how can I unlock bootloader?

Yes, you can run Regaws right over Zedomaxs root.
Thanks for all these great answers.... Now.... To be also clear here.... Regaws WILL.. (technically and practically) void your warranty???
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
So since both go through HTCDev and store your phone's serial number, it really doesn't matter if you use Zedomax first vs. using Regaw's method (which uses dummy HTCDev accounts). I only want to make sure because I'd prefer to do a TB backup before wiping my phone.
But I thought unlocking w/ HTCDev wiped data, so if they both do that, is there any way to back up my apps before I root?

It will void your HTC "factory" warranty but if u have sprint tep then you can use the unroot and relock methods posted in the threads and you should be able to return them to sprint for repairs and such

In addition to what's been said above, I suggest downloading both and closely examining the code.
Then, try to understand each step (or ask if you don't), then do it manually. Understanding the steps will help you in the future if/when there are problems.

Does one click root work for stock ics?

i just got my amaze yesterday, i installed the official ics OTA this morning, and now i want to root it. Does the one click root program work for the Amaze while it is on stock ics or would i have to downgrade?
I'm not sure, Look for hasoons all in one tool in the dev section. Has recoveries root and another one specifically for s off. You will find you will use his tool if you flash constantly

Hasoons tool wouldnt work for me when i updated to the WIND ICS OTA, i had to find the sudo package and install it via recovery. it did work for me in gingerbread.. just a heads up..
No one click. Read the stickies... Learn about unlocking bootloaders, 4 ext recovery, flashing superuser in recovery, and supercid. It's all rather simple. PLENTY of threads about it.

That one click does not work. It only works on GB 1.36. The exploit was fixed in 1.43 GB and newer.

Hi everyone,
First time poster here. Recently rooted my own HTC Amaze and thought I'd give veegsej some tips on what worked for me, so here we go
Honestly the best and easiest way to root your phone is to use Hasoon2000's HTC Amaze All-In-One Toolkit! Plug your phone into the computer and follow the onscreen instructions when you open the program.
After you've unlocked the bootloader (from the instructions given in the program), install a recovery- I suggest the first one on the list (4EXT). Under *Extras*, run perm root to push supersu.zip onto your phone. After all that, boot your phone into recovery mode and use 4EXT to find and install supersu.zip file. Once you do this, you'll be fully rooted and good to go!
*Extra tip*- in 4EXT I also recommend you turn on the *Smart Flash* option which will enable your phone to install/flash roms and all sorts of goodies in the future. :victory:
Hope this helps!

You're right the forums do have all the information available. I was hoping my post would at least, in a nutshell, summarize everything that had to be done so he/she would know what to do in just a few short paragraphs.
What if there was a section for noob's for every device?
I bet people would still take the time to say "You need to search!" Lol. Not directed at anyone specific, just a joke

[Q] Custom ROMs not needing S-Off

I am trying to use the HTCdev S-On method (a variant of it also shown here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426377) to install a new custom ROM on my Amaze 4G. The problem is that every ICS based ROM I find and like stipulates S-Off as a prerequisite. Are there any ROMs out there for this phone that can be used with S-On? If not, at what point in this method can I perform the wire trick to put this phone into S-Off?

Sorry, but I've seen those links before and they don't really answer my question. Besides, the first link is for ubuntu users, the second only shows the wire trick, but not where in the process it should be used, and the third link addresses upgrade from GB to ICS, which is not my case. I am already on ICS, on a T-Mobile branded amaze 4G and I use Windows 7, not Ubuntu.

Lol..for s-off you must use ubuntu...( you may use live CD?)
I have posted links for your reference...
If you have read correctly then in the 3rd.link on the 1st page there are so many links given for s-off.
There is no support for windows.so you must go with ubuntu.
Now got it?? Why I posted above links...the process of soff is same for all amaze....

I use the VIPER Rom without S-Off and it is very awesome to boot. Better battery life I think.
