[Q] Using Handcent and Juice Defender - HTC Droid DNA

I have hand cent as my default sms/mms app and juice defender running to save battery. When i'm on wi-fi at home, and I try to send a mms, I have to manually enable 4G data to send the picture. Is there any way to set either hand cent or juice defender to trigger the 4g when sending? It does trigger 4g when I use the stock messaging app.
Thanks,
Goinflyn

Ditch juice defender you are using more battery reconnecting to data and it causes wake locks

You should try maybe using battery guru or not running a power saving app at all and getting your setup better dialed in. In a whole lot of cases I've seen people remove juice defender and make a few tweaks and get better battery life without it than they did with it.
That being said, does MMS work over handcent when on a wifi connection if you remove juice defender from the equation? A lot of people have seen that problem without juice defender so I was just wondering if you had recently tried removing juice defender to make sure it does what you're looking for without it.

No it dosent. Only sms over WiFi. I can't send pics over WiFi on Verizon. I have to manually enable the 4g to send a picture. I'm going to try to forgo juice defender and see what happens.

[Q] Green power vs. Juice defender

Does anyone use Green power or Juice defender app on thunderbolt, and if so is it really saving battery life and are they working ok .
I couldn't ever get juice defender to work.

All those apps... Battery, Task Managers, etc are nothing but a farce. Fundraisers.
IMO
I believe that both work from my experiences. I have both but only tried Green Power on the TB. I am still determining how well it works for the TB. I used GP with the Incredible and I was quite pleased. I have the paid version and it allows for night profiles which is nice. The difference for me between JD and GP was ease of use- both are very good and very tweakable but GP was about as simple as it gets.
I will have to give that a try which one do u reccomend
I've been using juice defender for a while now and it works great. It basically just turns off your data while the screen is off, except for every 15 minutes (or whatever you define) it turns on and checks for push notifications. saves me a lot of battery life. I tried green power but I was having some issues with data not being turned back on after I turned the screen back on. DroidTh3ory - I agree that task killers are unnecessary fundraisers, but these data switching apps have a genuine use and do work.
Try super power. It's the same as juice defender. Works great.

Me neither. It got an error every time I tried to run it after getting my parameters set up.
i use green power pro and its great.
Green Power did not work well with my TB for some reason. Once I turn the screen on, I lost WiFi and Mobile Network, and could not get it back unless I rebooted the phone. Tried Juice Defender Beta, and it works much, much better. The latest release of JD Beta even fixed whatever TB issues it had, which was why I uninstalled JD Beta in the first place in favor of GP.
I don't have a thunderbolt, but I love green power. I started off with Juice Defender and found the free version way too limiting. If you want proof that green power works, run juice plotter with it for a day. With juice plotter, you can clearly see 3G being turned on and off at exactly the times you specify and the resulting increase to your battery life.
Anyone having issues with Juice Defender should download the "Juice Defender Beta" version from the market. It worked for me.
Currently using JuiceDefender on the ThunderBolt. They finally fix the problem with the ThunderBolt on the last release. Is working VERY good so far today. I'm at 11hrs/22%. I had 3 may be 30mins calls today, two 15mins video calls and normal txt, web browsing.
ran both of em, the one that was kinda cool and shut of wifi and data when inactive was nice, other than that they kinda blow. To be honest all you need is a nice all that can find detect the brightness arround you and adjust the screen accordingly, for me it's what is sucking up my batt.
Coming from a BB, I discorved there was a light sensor on the storm in the LED area. In the engineer settings that you could get too by some special combo which some1 made a keygento access it. *Hidden dev section they locked it out w/ a time sensitve code* It measured the light in lux, if the tbolt has something like this it would be nice or have the front faceing cam turn on in the background for the shortest time possible *under a sec* to measure the light every XX seconds.
Had Juice Defender with Ultimate Juice on my Thunderbolt and it kept stopping on its own without me knowing. Switched to Green Power Pro and it works flawlessly with my Thunderbolt and yes, I do get better battery life while using it. Just sometimes you need to turn it off to be able to download data. Hope this helps.
Juicedefender didnt work for me until yesterday...it updated and has worked great since
have tried green power and juice defender on mt4g..really the only thing that matters is that they stop data from being collected and used all the time...both work well, i like green power better because its far more simple..but for someone who wants to tweak to the optimum level, juice defender has more settings...

the thunderbolt has a light sensor too, but i have no idea if its possible to access its settings to adjust screen brightness.

[q] does juice Defender improve battery life?

I am bamf remix 1.6.2 using the standard kernel. Will juice defender improve my battery life?
I've never used it. I'm using the updated kernel 4.4.6 OC'd all the way up on demand. Really liking the battery life.
my brother swears by juice defender on his thunderbolt but i haven't used it myself FWIW
All it really does is turn off your data connection at certain times, so yes it should improve battery life. I have never used it nor do I plan on using it. I bought a smart phone so I can always be "connected", I do not want my data connection to be cut off. But hey, if you don't mind it just might help you.

You practically will be connected almost all of the time with JuiceDefender. It will turn off you data when not in use, but you can set up an internval where the data will turn on for however long you want for it to sync data like email.
Juice Defender didn't always turn 3g back on for me and I had to reboot to get it back. I lose a lot of battery when I reboot so I uninstalled this app.
I do use juice plotter and love to use it to manage my battery life, see trends and find out what I can do to stretch my battery life when needed.
I use JD Ultimate and think it does more than simply disconnecting your data. For example you can reduce the amount of data you receive which has greatly improved my battery life when I mostly needed to use my phone for things that did not require a whole lot of data.

Ken, I am currently using Juice defender on the Tbolt and have seen some improvement, more like 5 percent an hour down with medium usage versus not having juice and dropping 10-12 percent an hour.
Still nice to have the extended battery.
I'd like to give the green power a shot as Pzy suggested.
I have had good luck with JD. Only use when I'm at work or out and about when I'm not using the phones data much and need the battery to last.

Same here. I tried juice defender and it was just OK, it added maybe an hour of usage.
But I tried the free Green Power last week and it added 4-6 hours of battery. Then I bought the full and with nightmode on, I am now at 1 day 8 hours since unplug with 23% of battery left. Display eats the lion's share, followed by phone calls.

I just grabbed the free version, and it is saying "Only Wifi management is currently supported on your phone"
I don't know if this is because i'm running CM7 or if its normal.
Good call andy. Woot.

It works fine here but I am unrooted. I use the power widget and I can see the network and wifi turning on/off.
It might be CM7.
The disabling/re-enabling of radios was way too finicky for me, plus the fact that I didn't really notice anything but negligible gains in battery life.
I just bought the extended battery for $25 (got Verizon to give me a half-off discount) and called it a day.

It's gonna depend on how you use your phone. For the most part Juice Defender will only save your battery when your screen is off and your not using your phone. However you can set it to disable the networks when certain apps are running as well. So I guess it could save you a little if you had it set up for certain apps you use a lot that don't require a network connection (i.e. games).
I have been using Juice Defender with the stripped bamf rom and kernel. When my screen is off my battery is barely used. For example I went to bed at around 12am woke up around 6am and only lost 2% of battery.
I love JD. Yea i bought a smartphone that wants to stay connected but honestly it doesnt need to. Ive probably doubled my battery life, dropping maybe 1 percent in 3hrs, MAYBE, when its idling. I really like it. It doesnt take long for 3g to enable when i need it too, and plus i can enable it from the notification bar instantly.

App market

Hi guys i found app juice defender is that good for increase battery life? Im using cyanogen. Mod 7 dunno if look ok with this app any suggestion?

the juice defender debate goes on. some people report good battery life while others dont. I personally dont think its worth it but you can give it a try. maybe you will like it.
In many cases, battery savers use more battery than they save.
All this app does is turn off the data/cellular network when in lock mode. So when you wake your phone, you get your data back. Some people report missed calls and/or texts because of this. For someone like me who looks at the phone constantly, it would probably drain the battery more because of the on and off of the data/cellular network. It also annoys me that when I'm ready to check an email or something, the data is not readily available because of this feature.
when i was testing JD, i was constantly missing emails, texts and gtalk messages because my data was turned off. I didnt think it was worth it.

Yep I had this happen, and there was a delay because of it so it was very annoying.. I noticed way more battery life from a custom kernel than I ever did with juice defender.right now using entropy kernel with serendipity rom, gave me a good couple hours extra battery with normal usage.

Juice Defender free?

Ok so ive been using JD for months and months. Ive heard lots of mixed reviews on it, opinions please?
http://www.google.com/cse?q=juicede...59-1#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=juicedefender&gsc.page=1
My opinion is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349714
I never liked it and it didn't seem like it did all too much for me. I do use Juice Plotter though.
Why not just the system built-in power saving
More than anything else I like about juice defender (though I'm using ultimate) is wifi management. Auto shuts off wifi when I'm out of range, but every so often turns it on for a few seconds to see if there's any known networks nearby, if not it immediately shuts it off again. It's rare I ever have to manually turn my wifi on or off.
And I have noticed better battery life with auto sync shut off when the screen if off. I have it set to check every 20 minutes.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Well whats your opinion since you have been using for months and months?
I know it wasn't directed at me but I have used it for months. And I like it alot. It doesn't get in the way. If it's bothering you then it's not set up right. I like knowing autosync apps only run once every 20 minutes instead of continously. And I regularly am happy when I look at my phone and it's either connected to a network I know or off.
As far as how much it extends my battery, i don't know. I have a 3500mah battery. Makes it hard to figure out how much smaller tweaks do when the battery lasts beyond all day already.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
The main problem I had, even with Juice defender ultimate, was that background apps like trillian or irc don't work even when the app enable is on... enabling and disabling juice defender was a pain in the ass, and I barely saw any extra battery life. Sometimes the settings would reset, and the app takes a long time to load to re-enable it... The only thing that I do like about it is the nighttime schedule where it disables all traffic during certain hours of the night (keeps me asleep) however, there are plenty of other apps that do that, and JD is not worth it.

Juice Defender for Gnote

Anyone care to share there setup for JD on there Gnote? Usually dont do any task.managers or battery savers at all but been having sub-par battery life with the beast so figure i would buy JD and try it out. Just want to know some. Ppl settings so i can try them out myself get maximum battery life! Yes i know the each person usually there phone different and it should be based off this but i wanna expermint! Plus first time JD user so thanks in advance!

I had juice defender on my note and removed it it ruins push notifications face book words with friends email and so on. if you toggle mobile data that would be the only reason to use it only if you have poor service where you usually are. just go through your apps and set everything to communicate at least every hour or longer. It doesn't extend any life unless you cripple everyday functionality. It could actually drain more life because if data is disabled and email or an app goes to fetch data its gonna spend a bunch trying to sync draining more battery then if you just had synced it. i noticed words with friends is set to sync every 5 mins by default and that's no good. Just take time and sort your app usage out and youll be your own juice defender. Juice defender use to say its getting me 1.75 more battery then i removed it and my usage was the same but battery and functionality was better. Just my experience.
If you still wanna try use advanced tab change night mode to off pretty much it.read through every setting. http://www.juicedefender.com/overview/
