No audio from speakers, low volume with headset plugged in - AT&T HTC One (M7)

So, my device was working just fine all day, got in the car and plugged in the AUX port and the volume was very very low, unplugged it and all of the sudden my speakers don't work. Not even a hint of sound. I was running an AOKP ROM, so I did a big bad wipe & flashed TrickDroid and there's STILL nothing. AOSP or Sense I get no audio.
There was no kind of strange noise indicating I had blown a speaker, and it wasn't turned up very loud either. Hardware failure? Is there some kind of strange RAM setting that may be blocking audio? Is there anything I can do before I call HTC?
Also, I'm not 100% clear on how this warranty business works. Obviously, I flash custom ROM's so is there anything I need to do to prepare the device to be sent in to HTC?

This is the exact issue i had a few weeks ago, and I had to do a warranty because nothing fixed the issue, even a nandroid back to my original stock did not fix the problem.

I sort of have the same problem but not exactly. I was just using the speakers on the phone and it just popped and stopped working altogether. I have no idea if it's a hardware problem either.

Are you on stock Rom and/or did you flash any audio mods prior to this?

I am having this exact problem. The last time my speakers or earphones worked was before I plugged an AUX cable in my car. The speakers never turn on for any application and the earphones are very very low volume. Im thinking about sending it in for repair.

[Q] Callers can't hear me. Help!

I am as of recent having a call volume problem. I can hear them and they can barely hear me. My only work around has been using speakerphone or if you can believe this plugging in a regular set of stereo headphones (no mic. I lost the headphones that came with the phone) and speaking into the regular mic hole on the bottom of the phone. Then for whatever reason my levels go up radically and they can hear me. I have tried all the "service mode" temporary code tweaks without any luck. I have rebooted just in case I had f'd up any of the settings to put them back to default. Any ideas people? What other info might you need for me to isolate this problem. I am running xipher's j16 rom and it was working fine before. Also, it's obviously not a hardware issue or the mic wouldn't work better in speakerphone or headphone mode.
anybody?
Jeez. Thanks guys
Dude I had a phone that did that I had to get a replacement its the microphone
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw
pinky over the mic?
I'm being serious... I have done it.
try another rom just to be sure. Any misbehaving apps?

headphone jack not working after update

as in title: after installing latest OTA update friday, the headphone jack stopped outputting sound.
plug the ol' klipsches in and nothing. sound keeps coming out of phone speaker.
(yes, i did confirm they work on anther device. yes, i did try another set of headphones on razr. no sound)
never been a problem before, pretty good assumption that it's software related.
searching the interweb and forums but no one else seems to have this issue. dug into settings and there doesn't seem to be an option to adjust/select jack so at a loss.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Headphone jack works fine here with new update. XT912vzw

Works on mine after upgrade. Tried two different headsets and both work fine.
Clear the lint out of the headphone jack. Reach in there with a paper clip or something.
i just had this problem too.
a simple reboot helped me thought, but im sure you already tried that

Weird. After update mine still works. Are you rooted? Maybe flash back to stock to see if it works and then update.
I am having the exact same problem and I have restarted a couple times, thought I was going crazy
I had the same exact issue. I did not even think to link it to the update. The phone would not detect the headphones. I just kept unplugging and plugging the headphones back in till the phone recognized the headphones, and since then I have not had an issue.
I had the same problem after the upgrade. Nothing is able to fix it yet, any other suggestions??

I had headphone issues with my Razr too. And it appeared to happen after rooting BUT it wasn't related to the rooting at all. It was just a bad headphone jack. Moto seems to have problematic headphone jacks on a few of their phones. I got my replaced.
Try unrooting it and doing a factory restore. If the headphone jack still doesn't work before you root it again then you know what your problem is.
Verizon rep told me that the broken headphone jack is a known issues. Call Verizon to get a replacement.

It is nothing to do with the upgrade. There seems to be no bugs on the audio script. The solution is to reheat the audio amplifier (placed in the reversed board of headset connector). If not replaced the defective audio amplifier i.c...This will solve your problem.

Bad / low audio from this phone

Hey guys, does anyone have this issue? The audio from the loudspeaker is just crap, and also the position of it is away from the screen?? What sense does that make? I'm trying to watch a video, not broadcast the video's audio to everyone in my general area (except me).
Now that's a physical problem and can't be fixed. What I'm really mad / inraged about is the jack audio. Any type of headphones I plug into is extremely quite. Compared to my old phone (xperia play) I can't hear anything....is this normal? Does anyone else have any similar problems? I can't even wear these outside and listen to music, the wind and car noise is far louder. I'm forced to bring my old xperia play instead just to hear something (which btw, it's like twice as loud on this phone) and if that's going to be the case every day then it's time to sell this Evo 3D.
Another side note is that the range of the audio is also not very good, I can hear it struggle with high ranges as it makes "pops" in the audio...very disappointing..

My audio has always been fine, but maybe you could try using an EQ or something (might need to be rooted)

It's possible that my phone is faulty, but let me ask you this; what volume is your phone at when you think it's fine? I have to place mine at max to be "fine", not great, but fine. While the xperia play is at 50% being just fine.

I personally keep mine at 30% - 40%, it's a comfortable volume. Anything past 70% is a bit too loud. Do you think it may be your headphones..? Or it could possibly be a software issue like your ROM.

Originally I thought it was my rom, so I flashed another; same issue, so then I flashed the RUU...same issue. Tried different headphones, same issue, tried the same headphones on different devices...works completely fine at loud audio. Guess the phone is screwed. It already doesn't have any gsm radio connectivity.

Yeah, a hardware issue would make sense if nothing else is working.

Are you using the HTC headphones? Because after plugging in the original HTC headphones it came with, I found that these headphones are loud and working correctly. So it seems that any other 3rd party headphones will not duplicate the same result. That is unfortunately because I hate the htc ones, they don't cancel out background sound at all. They all have the exact same jack, 3 rings, same size, etc. But the HTC one is different. When plugging those headphones into my xperia it gives an error and says they aren't supported. So it's obvious that HTC put some type of technology into them that differs them from regular headphones.
Edit: Alright, so I tried yet another pair of headphones lying around and they work fine too. Is it possible that I tried the worlds only two headphones that don't work well with this phone? In any case, I'm no longer mad about the jack audio, it's obviously fine. But the loudspeaker is and always will be an issue, which sucks but oh well.

Nope, using third-party (JVC) headphones. Good to see you've got it sorted out though. Also I agree about the loudspeaker, it's a piece of crap. My old Evo 4G had a better one.
My phone is quite loud!
On mwakious Rom and it has tweaked audio settings.
It's gsm but maybe try the xloud mod available. Should improve audio volume

[Q] headphone jack issue.

Hello everyone, I am having an issue with my galaxy s3. The problem is that I can't remember when this issue started and if it's a software or hardware issue.
This only happens sometimes and I've tried different headphones and it happens with all the headphones I have and once again it happens sometimes.
When I am trying to listen to music, sometimes the music plays through the headphones (most of time this is what happens) but sometimes the music (with the headphones plugged in) plays through the loudspeaker. I think it could be a hardware issue from the fact that sometimes while listening to music the music stops as if I had disconnected the headphones from the jack when in fact they're still plugged in.
Since it happens sometimes I'm not sure it's a hardware issue and I should get it changed. I haven't rooted or changed anything. Stock dbt international S3. Could this be a software issue or a hardware issue?
Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Most likely hardware.
It sounds like a hardware issue, it is common with headphone jacks.
You could try a few things though, like cleaning the headphone jack with Q-Tips, trying different headphones and using a different app to play music.
Have you put extra stress on the headphone jack? Or dropped the phone badly?
If all else fails, backup your apps, contacts, pictures and all other personal data and install stock firmware using Kies.
Best of Luck!
Mine does this too sometimes. Omega latest version 34 here. Headphones I use are Sennheisers made for iphone. They are not totaly compatible with Samsung running android.
Yeah, I'm running completely stock! Maybe I'll give it a clean with some alcohol and a q tip. If that doesn't work I'll reset and wait for the next update. If it isn't fixed by then, then I'll be exchanging it under warranty.
Any other suggestions?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Are you sure it has the same issues with stock headphones? Mine not. Its more like an incompatibility with headphones made for IOS/iphone, an issue that is not present at all on HTC phones for instance. Therefore Im in serious doubt that this is either a problem covered by the guarantee or solved by cleaning with alcohol. Keep us posted.
I'd like to update:
After updating to 4.1.2 I'm still having the same issue. I cleaned it out with alcohol and a Q-tip, and it worked! for all of 10 minutes... I plugged and unplugged maybe 20 times and it worked fine every time. I set it down for about an hour and then I came back and tried it again and it didn't work!
This is frustrating. After Xmas I'm going to format it and set everything back to factory (no apps, no data, nothing!) and see if that fixes it. I guess it could be an error somewhere with an app or software.... If that doesn't fix it right off the bat then I'm taking it in.... Unless any of you have any suggestions!

Headphone jack issue

Hi Everyone.
I'm experiencing the (now common issue) of my Note 3 Pro detecting headphones that aren't plugged in. This has made my phone unusable unless i have headphones plugged in as no sound comes out the speakers.
I'm guessing this is a hardware issue that won't be solved by flashing a custom rom. Any suggestions apart from returning my device?
Swab with a peace of cotton into earphn jack ?

You can use the app SoundAbout to set where you want your sound output by default.
Is not a very friendly app to set up, but it would certainly do the trick.
