So I have i9100 with broken screen. I thought I'll replace the screen and have good cell phone
Fortunately, before I've ordered the screen, I wanted to try if everything else is working properly. I can turn on the phone - bottom capacitive keys light up, and after a while I hear some sound from the speaker. Then I can "lock" and "unlock" it - when I press the lock button (unlock the phone), capacitive keys light up and then when I press it again (lock it) capacitive keys turn off. So that's working.
After that I've tried to connect it to a computer. That didn't work as I expected If I connect it to the computer while it's turned off, I get this message:

and in the device manager there is Unknown device with the following error message:
Also, wrong vendor ID and product ID are reported:
If I connect it to a computer while it's turned on, I can hear the sound that it makes when you connect USB cable. But unfortunately I get the same error messages.
Any idea what could be the problem? What are the chances that this can be fixed by changing the USB board?

Seems like the 'Micro USB' is damaged, u can always get it replaced @ an affordable price for sure
By "Micro USB" do you mean this?
I can order it and replace it my self, but what are the chances that something else is wrong (e.g. the motherboard itself)?

that's the problem. I've already bought this broken cell phone (I thought that only screen was broken) and I don't want to invest more money in it if in the end it will turn out that the motherboard is also not working properly. I'll order USB replacement and if it's not working with new USB board, I'll just cut my losses.

There are THREE versions of this board.
They are......
REV2.2, REV2.3 and REV2.4.
The REV number is printed (in VERY small printing) on the board......
They are NOT interchangeable, so make sure you get the right one.......

that I didn't know!
Unfortunately, I've already ordered this one:
it says REV0.2 ??
I've just now checked and I have REV2.2, so will this be compatible? Or should I just try and cancel the order?
EDIT: I just saw i9100T on the picture... I'll contact the seller and ask him which board he's selling.
I can also see some other designations: R.B71 37. Do I need to also match these?
No...it's just the rev version you need to match.....
And the fact that the board you've ordered is for a different variant of the phone could also be 'problematic'......

Hi. Hoping someone can help me out here - I seem to have "Fried" my mini-usb port on my Touch Dual?
I had connected my Dual to my Vista PC in order to flash the latest Mary Rom - it started to charge the battery but hadn't picked up the device in Windows Mobile Device Manager (as happens some times?) - when I started the CustomRUU I of course got a connection error and this is when the port seems to have "died"???
The Dual now no longer charges - either from the main power supply or from PC or Laptop and I get the error message "USB Device has exceeded the power limits of its USB port" when I plug it into an XP Laptop?
I'm hoping that this is not a permanent "hardware" issue and that someone has had the same problem before and has a solution?
I have tried: Soft Reset, Hard Reset, Removing the battery, Changing the battery, changing the software settings for the usb port?
Help.....?????
So its been a few months now since my Dual died - I've just found it in the bottom of a drawer in my office and its reminded me to take a look and see if anyone else has had this problem so I thought I'd refresh the thread....
Any (ANY) advice would be great - I cant return it to HTC as its stuck with a custom ROM loaded and I cant connect the USB (obviously) to change it back to a shipped rom......
Is there any way to flash an original rom from a memory card?
Help......?????
.
that sounds bad...but i don't have the solution... sorry...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422370
but your battery should be very discharged now right?^^
i think my mini usb is on its way out
it keeps loosing activesync connection and i have to wiggle the lead etc.. does anyone else have this problem?
I am new here, but i am an electronics technician who has had a similar problem with my NEON 200. Seems that PC USB Ports can only supply 5VDC @ 500mA max and the NEON power pack is 5VDC @ 1A. I continually charged off my PC and Laptop when i could not find my mains pack - i think this eventually killed my phone or battery as now it just does not charge and i cannot turn on the radios. I did however measure the volts on the battery to be correct, and i did briefly get the device operational again (without the battery warning then turning itself off) for long enough to get a new ROM on the phone hoping this would fix it. FAIL! I have the same problem again... I hear there is a fuse on these that could be open cct, so i am going to look into that now. Hope some of this helps.
BTW - i hard reset the thing about 50 times (hoping the vibrate on start up would run the battery out) and this is how i got the thing working again the first time (before the ROM update).
Cheers,
Matt.
i need more infos ... what have you done befor you get this error?
flash new radio? or OS? or what ever?
This just happened to me too...
You can try to solder the contacts from the usb Plug in Phone. Have done this on a friends nike and this solved the problem.
Be carefull and don't overheat the board...
So you think its just a loose usb port?
I dont know, the pc usb host was shutting down everything on connect...
But Ill try...
that sucks twolf
i wish you good luck
Ok, went into a indian repair shop here and its fixed...35€
I was worried there for a while, the guy couldnt fully talk any language I tried.
But is working fine.
Have you seen what he did with your nike? Or had he told you what he have done?
As far as I know he just replaced the usb port, but I barely understood what he said.
It must have been that because he only had 3 hours with the device and there where other devices in line to be repaired as well.
im glad you got it fixed
did he replace it with an ExtUSB port? will headphones still work?
Hmm... its a normal port, looks like the old one.
I never used the headphones, dont even know where they are, I have a Motorola S9...

Hello! I'm facing a problem with my usb port, it has been detached... I sent it in a local repairing store but they did nothing. I need your help to guide me. There are 5 contacts on the motherboard for the usb port: Vbus, Data+, Data-, N/A, Ground. I have cut a usb cable and there are 4 cables: Red, Black, White and Green. I know that Red and Black are for giving current and logically the other two are for the Data.
Can I make the two data(+/-) on the board to cantact directly with the usb cable that I have cut? I need it for flashing kernels (which flashing lasts < 30")
Take a look

Yeah they're so tiny, but at least I want data to be working for flashing kernels... I'm trying to find a solution for the adb as you too... But it seems impossible...
i flashed succesfuly ferakernel 5.1 by pushing down the usb cable while holding back button , it works after 5 or 6 shots i swear
you can try it
I sent my phone to Sony and they said (I don't believe them) that something on the board has been broken and even the mini usb was soldered it still didn't charge. So all in all, it costs 130.euros. I can't do anything but to pay them.
Here is the picture of the solution
Here is the very good solution of it and its working both for charging and falshing , i have done it for my phone and its working 100000% and i am not advising u to do it yourself but this is the solution i am herewith attaching the pictures of it .
good luck
OK, returning from hardware hacking forum, cause this topicneeds an intervention
It could be posssible, that the copper from your motherboard was broken too. In this case you could use testpoins, but It would need really precision handling. But it IS possible tosolve it.
Could you post a pohot of your broken port on your motherboard?

Didn't see this on here so figured I'd post it - there's going to be an official Nokia wireless charging car dock for the Lumia 920, 820 and 720. As well as doing the whole wireless charging thing, it'll also have NFC so you can set it up to automatically launch programs or change settings when the phone enters the dock.

NFC cant change de config of the phone. Only can launch de menu of configuration. Example, you can configure a nfc tag to lauch the wifi menu but any change on its config.
I you config a NFC tag to launch a probram, a pop up apears and you must confirm the launch of the program.
the NFC in windows phone is a bit unusefull
Looks good, but the base restricts the location of the mount. I've always used air-vent clips for my phone mounts and that doesn't look like an option with this model.

anyone tried one of these?
judging from the other official nokia car mount I have (which doesn't take the 920, it just slips off all the time) i'm not convinced this will hold well...
Also, if anyone has it, does anyone here have navigon? Standard 1amp car charger seems to have difficulty keeping phone charged when using it, curious to how qi charger will cope with such a demand

I can confirm that standard 1 amp charges do have trouble keeping up.
I have had the best luck so far with a vibe charger. It does not seem to add much to the charge, but at least seems to keep up (most of the time). I find that turning off the screen for sections where you have many miles to your next turn makes a world of difference.
Here is the charger:

Better don't try. His mechanic fixation mechanism is quite poor. Returned after 3 month of use, because phone was dropped from it and it failed to tighten again, thus became useless (something broken inside).
On wpcentral there are lots of reports about same issues.

Hello
I have purchased a Galaxy S2 which has a damaged Micro USB Port.
My phone gets charged fine but I do not have a USB data connection with my PC, I'm afraid the Micro USB is damaged/broken.
However, if I really I press hard the cable to the port it gets connected for some seconds and then gets disconnected.
I've searched google about this and some people claim it's really easy to replace the Micro USB port, some screws and you are done.
The thing is I have never dismantled a Galaxy S2 before and I'm a bit afraid.
Is it really that easy?
Will this item from eBay fix my problem?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dock-Connec...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item35c5bc96a0
Also, the screen has been replaced in the past and in the upper left edge of the screen, the glue is off, how can I glue the screen back?
Thanks for reading

Actually It's pretty easy. Two days ago I've disassembled my phone(I got off everything, till the last screw),and I also unmounted the USB/Mic part of it.It's easy to get off/remount,just follow a tutorial on youtube
If you dare, first watch very carefully this video, you will learn a lot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65pvAINg2ME
Then watch this guy, it looks rude in handling but you may get an idea of doing it without removing the entire motherboard, just be extreme carefully and don't over force anything.

I had the same problem and replace it with this.

and what about the screen ??
In all honesty....I'd leave the screen "as is"....Some glue may be missing, but at the moment I assume the screen is working.....
You might be able to sort the glue issue, but there is a high probability that the screen will be damaged in the process.
And replacing the USB board IS easy....you just have to make sure you buy the CORRECT replacement part.....there are 3 versions of this module. ...
REV2.2, REV2.3 and REV2.4
They are NOT interchangeable.
The REV number is printed on the board in VERY small printing...

Alright my Smartphone's Flex Cable ribbon revision is 2.2 R. B53
Now, most eBay sellers have a low English language skill, they seem they do not understand what I'm talking about
My question to them is this:
I would like to know what revision number is your flex cable ribbon.
See the pictures below to see where you can find the revision number.
Thanks a lot

It's like I'm speaking to monkeys.
A seller replied "sorry that our item doesn't fit yours."
I'm from Greece and I would like to know where can I order a flex cable charging ribbon at a low cost.
Also after disassembling my phone, now whenever I shut it down, it boot ups by itself without the power button being pressed.
However, the volume up/down keys work correctly on the OS.
Am I screwed?
No you're not, go to another repair center

Here is a photo of the motherboard with all the points labeled. If I figure this out before someone is able to reply, I'll update my findings. Thank you for viewing my post.

Sorry for the late reply. I have yet to figure out an answer still. All of the points are unpowered which is strikingly odd as I've worked with bricked phones before and at least the some of the points have juice running through them to figure out which is what.
My device does indeed power on as the status LED is functioning correctly. I've yet to take the device apart any further, but I'm assuming that I'll need to in order to figure this one out.

Ok same here I'm keep trying...the other day I found a post for G8 stylus on the forum here and it worked so I spend the half of the Sunday trying again and nothing I tried as well under the LCD connector I even tried to do the one pin and the other to ground as I remember on my old Lenovo that how I fixed it....anyway thanks for the reply if anything comes up I will let you know and I hope some of the masters here can step up here and help us..
trying to figure this out as well thanks for the post
pretty sure i found the points
huge pain in the ass to short them because theyre under the usb cable
when i short these points my phone is recognized as an unknown usb device for a couple seconds and then nothing
anyone trying
the usb ribbon needs to be connected for the short to do anything
I had mine hooked into a port with hardbrick, the computer would off and on recognize as some foreign port. But then I flashed the wrong. Now the computer doesn't see it at all. Tried your edl points with some solder wick, just threw it under the usb cable. Sorry to say I didn't get anything back.
i wasnt able to test further because one on the pads came off the board

that method is very unreliable
remove the battery so you can peel up the usb ribbon
bend the usb ribbon so that you can bridge the pads with tweezers while the ribbon is connected
this is the only way i was able to get it to be recognized as a device on my pc
however, i was never able to get it to stay in whatever mode it was booting to as it would disconnect itself after about 2 seconds every time
