I was trying to pull one camera apk from 1 Rom and install in another by extracting the camera apk and putting it in the system/app of the other Rom and overwriting the current camera apk and installed and even though it installs it force closes when trying to use it. First time I've done this on the DNA but this is how I did it on the galaxy nexus, is there something else I need to do to get this to work? Any help is always appreciated

The attached camera app, MIUIcamera-signed.apk will let you see the MIUI Camera on CM7.
Installation is simple, just install end enjoy!
Thanks to csdj92 for figuring out that I had to use the signed version and thanks to kaos217 for posting the signed apk (attached) (originally posted here)
If you're like me and hate having multiple "default" camera apps, using an app such as Root Explorer or Astro File Manager you can go to system/app/ and rename Camera.apk to something else, or delete it all together
Cheers!
Okay, so before anyone on here insults me for asking this, I've tried searching it out and I've found that other people have been able to do this (specifically, on the Evo) but I haven't been able to get it going.
Since MIUI & CM7 are both AOSP build, shouldnt I be able to remove CM7's camera and replace it with MIUI's? I don't like CM7's camera implementation, but I LOVE MiUI's camera.
From what I gathered in this thread, I had to backup the stock camera app, delete it. Rename the MIUI Camera to camera.apk, place it in the system/app/ folder. Then I had to long press on the camera, set permissions to 644 (read) and reboot.
I reboot but I get an error saying Com.Miui.Camera has force closed. Any help?
Attached is the MIUI Camera APK
Try downloading the signed apk on the second page from the OG post. I tried with the one on your post got the error, then tried with the signed apk and it worked fine.

I tried the signed APK and it doesnt work either.
Scratch that, when I tried restoring with Root Manager it or pushing it via ADB, it didn't work, but when I installed it like a regular package, it worked just fine. Disabling the CM7 camera now
Thanks

Thanks, this is great. Works with the shift-deck rom and has touch to focus enabled.
Awesome awesome awesome. I dig it. Probably my least favorite thing about CM7 was the fugly AOSP camera. Thank you!

I think there is a newer version of MIUI camera available... I'm gonna try to sign the new version and release it.
Thanks man, been looking for a better camera since I left all sense behind.

I never said that AOSP's camera was good either. I like MIUI's camera.
What a real shame about the camera, and also the shocking battery life off 7.2!
i am going back to 2.3.6. I had a better time with that.
is anyone able to extract the camera.apk from regualar samsung rom? i am using the super osr rom it is using the pure android and it is working extremely fast i love but but the camera app is not good and it doesnt work with video recording.
Can anyone help me out with replacing the camera app? thanks guys
You can get it back by downloading the stock rom from somewhere and extract the camera.apk in system/app directory. Post your base firmware version, someone using the same firmware here can help you. As camera app is not firmware dependent ill upload mine later.
Edit: HAve attached the file, paste it to system\app\

I know how to change the defaults that is not my issue.
I came from the first Galaxy S running crayogen ICS and the messaging app on that is way better than the Samsung one, it just sucks.
I tired installing the apk from the crayogen rom but I keep getting an error.
When I try I get the this is a system app are you sure you want to continue and replace it. I then select install and just get a error Application not installed.
So I used root explorer, found the default samsung app, renamed it, copied over the other app with the same name and installed it from within the system folder and it worked, so it is now working but it doesn't look the same as it did on my old phone.
Any help?
This is the XT9 message app with dark background thy this install just like you did b4
couldn't get that one to work for some reason, did the same thing and kept getting unable to install error
Try Go SMS Pro?
I use GO SMS Pro also and its awesome! You are correct...The stock messaging app is god awful!
I use Handcent and it's way better than stock.
Instead of renaming the secmms.apk, make a copy and pt it on your sdcard. Delete it from your system/app folder, push the new apk to system/apk.
Reboot. It should bout to the Android is updating screen if it worked.

Thanks for that, but it still didn't work it defaults to the app but it still isn't working correctly and doesn't look like the old app I use to have and when I open settings it always crashes.
What I have done is disabled the default messaging app in settings, installed GoSms and using that as the default. Its not bad and better to adapt to but still miss the CyanogenMod messaging app I had on the I9000
Thanks for the replys
Have you modded the app at all? You might have to sign it before it will install/work
Name it Mms.apk

Modded system apps should not be signed, fwiw.
Here are some apks that change the icons on your home screen and your app drawer.
Thanks to Pfaffinator for the icons.
1 go to system/ app and copy your entire app file then place it on an sd card for backup if you want to revert back to your original icons.
2 copy these new apks to system/ app. Your phone will ask if you want to replace your old apk with the new one...tap yes then profit.
3 I do not know how to make a zip file yet as I am still learning.
4 I will add more as I theme more icons.
5 DISLAIMER : I am not responsible for your phone if something goes wrong.
Here are some screen shots

If you flash super Jelly, use the super Jelly updater to download a blank zip. You then use an archive manager like 7zip or winrar to place the apk's in the system/app folder. I think it has to be signed for JB, not sure how to do that tho.
Thanks for sharing tho. If these are someone else's work can you give them credit? If this is your work, nice job!
Edit: saw you said you were theming the icons. Sorry if I offended by suggesting this was another person's work

Sorry my mistake. I didn't make the icons. I put them in the apks to use with our phones. Thank you for making me aware that I needed to do that.

Pull the apks modified. Either adb pull system > w/e.apk. or do it via phone via a root powered file explore. Place the apks on your sdcard. Mount the device place on your computer. That download a theme or a mod zip. And archive into that make your changes etc flash to test then release as a theme. Message me about if you already haven't ill get to you as soon as I can.

Did it force close once or does it work correctly now? If it doesn't work correctly and you made a backup on your SD card of your original APks you can just pull the NFC apk only and put it back in system app.

I downloaded the YouTube file went to es file explorer copied the apk went to system/apps pasted it then it asked me if I wanted to overwrite I pressed yes it said it was installed successfully but when I go to my app drawer nothing changes...any help would be appreciated Tia
Edit: nevermind after I rebooted it changed..you should put that you need to reboot in the instructions so less educated people like me know that..thanks for these they are sweet and go with my chrome theme!

I'm on the Canadian JB rom. Anyone know of a way to trade out for the N4 Camera app?

Try searching for the apk. I know when JB was released there were a lot of zips containing the camera along with the clock.

I tried installing the the zip with the 4.2 camera and gallery, but it force closes everytime I try to open the camera. I didn't delete the old camera apk, it still works. I'm on the JB port.
