Graphics performance on CM 10.1 questions - HTC Rezound

I have been running Sense on my Rezound since the day the phone launched. I've tried a couple different ROMs but have always gone back to the stock ROM and then removed all the bloat apps, and been very happy with the performance and stability on my phone.
Recently I updated to ICS and the most recent firmware (I was on GB this whole time), and battery life had been sucking pretty bad, so I decided to try a custom kernel. I flashed FunkyKernel 3.7, and, while it didn't do much to help battery life (even with underclocking and undervolting), it did GREATLY improve performance, especially gaming performance.
But, battery life was still MUCH worse than it had been on GB, so I decided to try CM 10.1 and see if a vanilla ROM would fare better. Flashed CM 10.1 and the ROM ran fine, but my graphics performance took a HUGE hit. I've been playing a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog lately (the Android port of the original), and on ICS sense it ran a buttery smooth 60 fps. On CM 10 I'm getting like 15-20 fps. Fired up Quadrant and saw the same results on the graphics tests there. I tried flashing FunkyBean 3.7, and playing with the clock speed and governor settings, but no dice. I enabled "force GPU on 2d" and no dice. I tried suggestions from the CM thread, no dice. Loaded up Shadowgun, and it also ran very poorly, compared to playing on the Sense ROM... very choppy
Has anyone else noticed this? I expected CM to FLY compared to Sense. The home screen and most apps were just fine, no choppiness, no lag that I could really see, only the games really showed any loss of performance. Did I do something wrong? Is it an issue with the drivers?

Cm 10.1 ROMs have a 50/50 gaming performance. Some games are smooth some are not
Now if you want CyanogenMod and great battery life and performance all around than you want a cm9 ROM. I only left cm9 for the new features if cm10.1
So if you use cm10.1 you may need to try different games. But cm9 is perfect but you give up cm10.1 features
Maybe in the future gaming will get fixed. Maybe when ion starts rolling out but who knows..

Ok, at least now I know it's not just my phone or me screwing something up. thank you.

Yup, just try CM9.

[Q] Best Thunderbolt Rom

Now I know this is largely an opinion based question but figured I'd get some good feedback. I am a former incredible owner and with the incredible I had MANY choices of ROMs that were all fast, great battery improvements and completely stable. I was a huge fan of CM7 on the incredible. I finally just rooted my Thunderbolt and am looking for the same. I just want a ROM that is stable, decent speed and with better battery life. So far I flashed a sense 3.5 ROM (InfectedROM) and it is has many bugs, little bit better battery and actually feels slower than stock. CM7 says it is still in beta so I have been reluctant to try it. Does anybody have any advice on the most solid ROM out there for the Thunderbolt? Thank you

Any BAMF ROM. They are almost completely bug free, smooth, and offer better battery life over stock. CM7, even though it's not officially supported yet, doesn't have too many bugs. The battery life, in my opinion, just doesn't match up to Sense ROMs.
One piece of advice I'll give you for better battery life. Don't overclock. It just isn't necessary. The phone is fast enough at 1GHz, and you won't see too much of a change overclocking, just worse battery life. (Benchmark scores are meaningless. They do not reflect every day performance)
What kind of mAh drain do you experience on bamf roms? I stay between 15-25 on CM7 with the screen off and peak between 150-350 with screen on. BT is always on, as well as GPS. (Never use wifi, so can't speak on that) Oh, and I just Juice defender, before JD I would average 35-40. Sync mail with imap every 15 and exchange on push. Underclocked with screen off to 360 and run 1024 with screen on. I don't OC unless I'm plugged in. Then its only 1209.
I'll also cast a vot for Team BAMF. I am on BAMF forever 1.10 and I flashed the devs beta 3++ kernel build after because I saw a bit of lag with the stock kernel. You absolutely need to remember to wipe before flashing the rom, though. I neglected to and the lockscreen didn't even work.

I never dropped below 30% battery using bamf in months, I'm a huge fan. It took a lot for me to drain it down low.

I vote BAMF SoaB. But I'm biased.

Never had any problems with CM7 via protekk's builds. Run fast and smooth, and get great battery life. Plus it's clean so I don't have to worry about washing my hands after using it
Skyraider 1.3. Gives the best balance of htc sense functionality, battery life, customizations, and speed. I would stay away from sense 3.0 and 3.5 roms. They initially seem smooth; however in everyday use they will lag on you. The phone is just not designed for 3.0/3.5 sense. The 2.1/3.0 hybrid roms work well which is what the skyraider 1.3 rom is. If you don't like sense, then run CM 7.1.1 or Liquid Smooth 3.2. The non-sense roms will be a little faster, but I like the widgets that come with sense.
Update: Forgot MIUI rom. Very nice if you like the apple-esk look and feel. Very smooth.
BAMF forever 1.1
How do i find the BAMF forever 1.1 rom. When I use ROM mamanger I only see 1.0.5
Another vote for SkyRaider Zeus 1.3.
Near perfect for me.
Miui tons of customization very good batt life and very smooth

BAMF roms are probably the most stable roms and I tried most of them already I even bricked my phone a couple of times trying all the roms and so far I'm sticking with this ROM called thunder stick 3d
I've tried Bamf Forever, SkyRaider, SoaB, MIUI and Gingeritis 3D.
My vote out of all 3 is Gingeritis! Battery life has been a ton better than the Bamf roms and MIUI I only liked on my Droid X. Wasn't a fan on my T'Bolt.
Liquid Gingerbread 3.2
Liquid's AOSP 3.2 is by far the best rom I've used, it's based on CM7, which is technically still a beta, but I think that's just because the official support on the CM website is slated for CM9, I have no issues with Liquid 3.2 and I tend to be picky about dealing with bugs, and battery life is good the way it comes, better than Sense based roms, and you can configure the kernel for batterysaver which makes it even better.
[ROM-STOCK-605.9] iKReaM.What.Thee.ROM.605.9-R3Ds this rom is legit but if someone could tell me what that clock is and how get it i would greatly appreciate it
I used CM7.1 most of the time but switch to a BAMF Sense 3.0 ROM on Thursday nights (and sometimes Sunday and Monday night) to watch NFL Mobile. They are both nice, but Sense 3.0 has some stupid issues, like lack of landscape mode, lower volume by default, dodgy Bluetooth support, etc, it's enough to make you want to get rid of it.
I have th3oryrom - ics
I vote for th3ory, i like that it is non htc sense. And this one is a ics look/feel rom. This is a link to dhacker29's rom (http://th3oryrom.com/ROMS/SHIFTAO5P_IC3.2.1.zip );and although it is 2.3.7 android it still seems like you're using ics. the only bug i have found is flash keeps crapping out. there's a thread i found (non t-bolt related) that i found where going to adjust (remove all) permissions fixes this but which folder i do not remember.
You won't get many votes for this b/c the developer isn't going to update it (at least i don't think) b/c they have moved on to another phone.
EDIT: i did a search for you if you're inclined to dnld this rom. in the Q&A bolt forum there is one i located that path on your phone you may need to find using root explorer to run flash. "/data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data" after this path go to permissions on this file and deselect all check marks.
Google Music
it is an awesome rom but since CLEAN flashing this rom, ive had issues streaming my music from google, it sucks, i read other people having this problem as well so i tried the various fixes i found and to no avail, its a deal breaker for me cuz i wanna listen to the music i paid for. im gonna try SHIFT AO5P n see if it produces some positive results, if not, im going back to INFECTEDROM. I WANT MY GOOGLE MUSICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!

[Q] ICS Battery Life tips ?

Hey I was wondering what peoples battery life looks like on the different ics roms? I've tried Joel Z's latest cm9 and aosp and my battery will be nearly dead (15%) by mid afternoon, compared to 60-70 % on my viper Rom( latest version, stock kernel) with comparable usage, if not more on my viperRom . I really think I would use ics as my daily rom if the battery life was better.
I'm wondering what kind of battery life yo!u all are getting and if you have found a setup that can get even comparable life to some of the sense roms??? I've looked around on s!ome of the different posts and haven't found anything lately about battery on these roms.
FWIW I've tried deleting the Bluetooth file that supposedly caused problems but it hasn't helped ( I think this was fixed anyways?) .
Thanks!
Some people may hate on me for saying this, but try underclocking. I eventually returned to ViperRom, but while I was on ICS I underclocked to 800Mhz. Since AOSP is so light and bloat free, it still ran very smoothly. This helped with battery somewhat, but it seems that battery isn't really ICS roms' strong point (they are alpha, after all). Hope that helps a bit.

GAMING PERFORMANCE on CUSTOM ROMS @GAME FREAKS

Hey guys
This question is mainly aimed at gaming freaks who have also switched to custom roms.
Just wanna know how is the gaming performance (generally 3d games) on various roms like Resurrection remix, ics slim ,cm9, miui etc..
I saw in various threads that many 3d games lag more on such roms (at stock cpu/gpu settings)? Is it true? Coz if it is, then this is totally a deal buster for me..i was excited to flash RR but if games are lagging...there wont be any use of improved system performance lol on a custom rom
anyway guys do let me know the gaming problems with any of the popular roms..so i can make up my mind and finally flash a custom rom..
thanks

Cm9/aokp I get the best graphics performance. I actually under clock my CPU for a longer battery life... and its just still as good if not better than stock.

Games like Dead trigger, NOVA 3, shadowgun, Modern Combat 3 - lots of framerate issues on ICS custom rom. I never had issues on GB and never stayed on samsung ICS long enough to find out what that was like. Mundane tasks showed that it sucked balls, so I seriously doubt that it would be any different with intensive tasks like gaming.
I'd venture a guess that CM9 kernel is probably better than the majority of ICS kernels. My experience is that it just works alot better in general - other kernels have a lot of bells and wistles but other than some cool novelty feature, really aren't very different from each other. CM9's kernel really stands out for me. I have however heard good things about Fluxi kernel. I made the switch but it was much worse unfortunately others may have a different experience though.
The lag spikes seem to be random aswell, so I have my doubts any overclocking would help. If it happened in sequences with big open fields and lots of enemies on screen I'd understand, but when you are in a small corrider with no-one around, I can't think of why it should do it then. Not to mention it was seemless on stock GB (actually Villian ROM 3.0 and Redpill kernel).
But I've got CM9 running exactly how I want it and its stock CM9 kernel is actually pretty good, the games are good to play on it, but you do get annoying lag spikes somewhat frequently.

[Q] Stock smoother than custom rom?

Ok right now I have a US 4.0 player and I'm currently running the stock rom. It runs fairly smoothly and I get a Quadrant score of just 1264. Previously I have successfully rooted it, installed Terrasilent kernel 1.3.5. I then installed EtherealRom 2.4. But I noticed that the player did not run smoothly at all, even though I got a slightly higher Quadrant score of 1330ish. I then went back to stock and things again ran smoothly even at the lower Quadrant score. So I rooted it again and installed Terrasilent kernel again. I then installed the Icy Fusion V2.3 rom. Again the player really lagged even through I was getting a higher Quadrant score than stock. When playing music through Poweramp doing anything else at all makes it stutter like crazy. And I tried other music players with the same result. Even scrolling through the screens get's all laggy when nothing is running. All I really use my player for is music, gps, surfing the web and reading rss articles. I don't play any games on it. I have tried switching to Ext4 and that didn't help either. Does anyone have any idea why using a custom kernel and rom makes it run so much crappier than stock? I know other people are getting it to run good with the custom rom and kernel. I'm just not sure what to try to get the same results as others.
I'm no expert on ROMs but remember stock has everything working like HW acceleration so that might be it. And also ICS is more demanding the 2.3 so it could be that. For me stock wasn't smooth at all.

Thanks for the response, but I'm pretty sure that both the roms I tried are both 2.3 variants, not ICS.
I tried flashing Terrasilent and Icy Fusion again and kept it overnight to see if anything needed time to process in the background. But as of today it is still running as before, very laggy and choppy.
Hanthesolo has some i9000 ports to the galaxy player 4 that worked very good for me.

Most of the time ROMs don't run as smooth as the original stock one. However, I used both Ethereal and IcyFusion and I haven't seen much lag on either. You should try bumping up the min clock speed to 400mhz or 800mhz, and keeping the max clock speed at 1000mhz. Also I listen to PowerAmp, while using Voodoo Amplifier, DSP Manager, and emulating genesis/snes games at a clock speed of 800mhz to 1000 mhz and I only see micro lag at best. Sometimes you might have too many background apps running on the player, so I would go to task manager and if you see that is 300mb or more for ram usage then that's why the player is lagging.
I use icy fusion along with terrasilent and had same results until I installed autokiller memory optimizer. I have it set to extreme. Smooth as butter now. I also have min set to 400 and max set to 1000 using set CPU.

I just tried out alpha 4 of CM10 on my player 5.0
I did not overclock that
but it is quite smooth for UI animations/transitions.
Maybe because it is Jelly Bean
5.0 and 4.0 has the same hardware, why is it that 5.0 is smoother than 4.0?
Thanks for the tips guys! It was a memory issue I guess. Not sure why stock handled it better, but once I installed a task killer things smoothed right out in the Ethereal rom.
I will switch to an ICS rom once they get that camera figured out. I know the 4.0 camera isn't great, but I use it a lot.
My friend told me that it is best to stick with CM7 because it does not have ad many bugs as CM9 or CM10

Also I just wanted to add that I've tried every launcher available on the market and the best running one for me is launcher pro. Everyone said its old and outdated but hands down, its been the best launcher in terms of performance. The only thing that has come close is the new smart launcher. But it needs a few things added in features for me to use it every day. Good luck.

I noticed that the stock rom on 5.0 runs better than the custom gingerbread rom we have.
You should try an ICS rom. Yes, the camera doesn't work, but you have a Turbocharged device with amazing battery life.
The camera on the 5.0 is pretty ****ty, so i don't care about it.
Also, in Gingerbead, transitions and animations are done by the CPU, while in ICS, GPU does the job. Thats why ICS is 1000000x smoother than Ginberbread on Player 5.0
And with ICS, i don't lose any battery percentage at night, basically you have 5x standby time.
And the RAM managment on ICS is much better, i never noticed any jaggies or lag on my player since i put RemICS on it. :good:

Performance differance between stock and pure nexus rom

Help
Should i root and install pure nexus rom on my nexus 9?
Will i get a performance upgrade in normal day to day use?
Yes, difference is huge, like day and night.
Nexus 9 on stock is unusable slow for me.
Example:
Play Music, Youtube and so on open like 5 times as fast as before
Web Browsing is not stuttering/lagging all the time
General Performance difference is really noticeable
I'm running PureNexus Rom + FireIce Kernel
I tried it, but I did not really notice any difference, but I only tried it for a few hours. I noticed that apps opened quicker with CyanogenMod (that could be attributed that to running minimal Google Apps by using OpenGapps Pico) but that could just be in my mind.
What rom did you try and what kernel?
I'm not a cyanogenmod fan, feel like their rom is always a bit slower than others.
DirtyUnicorn is pretty fast as well.
Personally the only ROM I have been happy with on my nexus 9 has been pure nexus. I've changed out kernels a bit but settled with fire ice kernel. Maxed out CPU and GPU over clock and haven't complained about performance for both games and apps. I ran stock for a few weeks and this is a lot better. (Pure nexus) I don't do benchmarks and what not but the overall feel with fsync off is what I originally expected it to be out of the box. Its a nexus. Give it a try if you hate it go back to stock. That's the joy of the nexus. I also use pure nexus on my nexus 6 and love it the same.

I tried Pure Nexus ROM and perhaps one or two others (aside from CM). I tried EX & FireIce kernels.
Regarding the performance or user experience, I have no proof. Just opinion.
Honestly, it is so easy to just try the ROMs & kernels, I wonder why these threads ever pop up. Just try them and see which one you prefer.
