[Q] Network issues - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
My friend's mum has an SII which has run into a few problems.
Its always set on Emergency Calls Only. Also, whenever she tries to make a call it gives a message saying that it cannot register to the network.
Build: JZ054K.I9100ZSLSJ
Baseband: I9100XXLS8
I can provide any additional info if required.
I thought it would be a modem-related problem- its something that's come up in the Galaxy S I9000 forums (where I usually am)- but I'm not really sure about that. ZSLSJ is the 4.1.2 rom for Hong Kong. Its stock and unrooted.
If it helps (especially for any NZ SII users who might know), I'm in New Zealand, and the phone's on Vodafone.
The motherboard has been changed as well to try fix the problem, but it hasn't changed anything.
Any help/guidance/advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Is it an I9100T variant?
Sent from...this is not even my S2

I don't think so. I think its a standard I9100, though I will check later today.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk HD

Nope, it isn't the T version.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk HD

So what have you tried? Is your imei there and ok? Have you tried to reset your apns?
RR 4.2.2

The IMEI seems to be intact.
I've told my friend to try flash other roms- tried the NZ one as well, same problem. Reboots don't help. His mum doesn't want to factory reset so we haven't tried that yet.

Try reset apns mate

No problem
Glad you sorted it.
RR 4.2.2

Really sorry to revive an old thread, but the problem's come back again. It was fine for a bit of time until now- the SII's still saying it can't connect.
Would flashing the NZ 4.1.2 solve the problem? Or is there any other way to stop this happening?

You have a very old Gingerbread baseband from september last year. LPS works excellent, I'd give it a try.
Downloading LPS now from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950&page=105
does Vodafone has any different modem for SGS2?
Still facing same issue upgraded modem LPS Its still the same.
Strange thing is Use 2G network and Data Enabled is unchecked itself whenever I had this problem.

There are a larhe number of modems .
Start with the last one and work your way back .

Best way to find a good Modem is testing them all.

You need a computer and a thing called search and you look on XDA thread for Modem post with flashable modems .Like most stuff its found in development .
But you would do better to read the basics first .

Check/ask rom thread re same problem and modems first as its 99% not a warranty problem .
Warranty void anyway with root and custom rom .
jje
Pretty sure the problem is that your modem is incompatible with your firmware. On the S3 the newer roms require a newer modem specific to the firmware.

I've experienced this for the past three days too. Stock OS, latest UK version.
The only workaround I've found is to use the Speaker but this is hardly satisfactory. I'm about to do an (inconvenient) factory reset to see if it cures this and other issues.
change modem

Well three customer service also suggested to use speaker. But let's me honest no one buys a phone just to use a a speaker.

If you are running XX"B"___ firmware, apparently you need to match your modem.
Check post #2 of my modem thread for modems to try
Sent from my GT-P6810 using xda premium
Well omega 9 is based on blg1 firmware and the modem which ships with blg1 is lf3 so it sounds kind of odd you have phone issues when you are using matching stuff.
Maybe try blfb modem since its compatible with omega 9/lf3 and is the modem designed for the UK.

Yeah seems odd if modem DXLF3 is already packaged with the ROM.
And there are other "B" modems to try as well, all documented in post #2
Only takes minutes to test.

[Q][JB] Callers not being able to hear my voice.

Hey guys, I've got this weird issue, which I can't seem to get resolved myself, so I'm here to ask U guys for some help.
Basically I've got the EU version of the S3.
AP: I9300XXDLIH
CP:I9300CEDLI1
CSC: I9300PHNDLI1
Phone has not been rooted, has no custom ROM or anything of that kind. I'm running stock JB.
So now to the actual problem:
After updating to JB, my friends told me they couldn't hear me AT ALL anymore when calling. When both receiving and making calls.
The funny part is that when I call with Viber, Skype or send messages through HeyTell, it all works fine.
Long story short, normal calling -> no-one hears me. Calling over the "internet" -> no problem at all.
So my guess is this is a software-related problem rather than a hardware one?
Anyways I hope someone will be able to help me out, or atleast provide me with some advice!
Thanks in advance,
Raain
Ofcourse it is a software problem. Did you try factory reset?
Or try different mobile operator?

changing csc to your country will apparently do the trick although csc does wipe your phone but.

Odin is not the problem. I flashed my phone with Odin while my father flashed it with Samsung kies. Before the JB update we had no problems calling people and after the update we have randomly problems, while we are making calls we don't hear any sounds. Last time i called a person (didn't hear any sounds too) and after a min or 2 i hang up. I called him back and he said he picked up the phone and didn't hear anything.
Jellybean 4.1.1 is the issue, i hope samsung fixed it on 4.1.2
We shouldn't have to change csc after an update from OTA but hey its Samsung were talking about

[Q] Indian Rom XXDLJ5 writes secretly SMS to india

Hey folks,
yesterday I flashed the newest rom XXDLJ5 (India).
Everything went just fine.
Now i looked at the connections on my online bill.
I noticed that my phone has written (shortly after flashing the rom) secretly a sms to
this number: +91 9560345888.
Google could only tell me that it is an indian number.
There is no hint on my SGS3 why it has written this sms.
I set this number as spam in my sms app, so i hope this was the last time this happened.
That costs me 0.13€ everytime...
Does anyone have an idea why this happened???
Thanks in advance...
Few people facing same problem but it is for one time only ie for 1 st boot only ....

Every New Official ROM flashed , sends an SMS to a different number as noticed in all my devices after official update.
So thats for one time only where SAMSUNG registers this device of having flashed the official version on their handsets.
This is also introduced in the ICS builds for S2 and Notes too.

Ok thank you so much! Flashed 2 times the LJ5 :/
Not going to touch the India rom anymore. Plus it performs weaker in games than LJ4.
After buying the Indian S3, most operators provide complimentary data packs. I got 3GB for the first two months. So maybe it has something to do with that?

Also the Galaxy Note JB ROM sends SMS
Not only the Galaxy SIII, but also the Galaxy Note N7000 Jelly Bean official Indian (South Asian) ROM sends SMS to the Indian number +919560345888 each time you flash the ROM or perform a factory reset. This has been a mystery! See my post here!
I will NEVER install TW rom on any of my Samsung devices. That really sucks my money 5 months and today I faced this. I have I9301 and loved to flash custom tw roms but my bill increases every month mysteriously for sending sms to this number. Samsung and your little tricks........

Umniah network - amman jordan

Hello, i have just moved to amman, jordan and i bought an umniah network simcard but i have a strange problem. It keeps drops the signal all the time. The same sim on other phones works perfectly and other samsung phones like the note 2 or grant work as they should. I was thinking that the problem might be the modem. Im on rootbox 4.1. I haven't tried a sammy rom yet cause i dont have a good internet connection yet. Anyone knows a good modem version to try? Thanks in advance..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
No one will be able to pinpoint a 'good' modem for you. Each person will need a different modem depending on their carrier and region. For example, I'm using XXMS2, while my brother, with the same phone but different carrier, is on DVLS3. I have a horrible signal with his modem, as he does with mine.
What you'll have to do is flash a few and test which works for you. They're not big files so you'll be fine to download a few without a good connection. Don't flash ril+modem, you want modem only.

Try the modems bundled with stock roms released by the carrier in question then the stock roms released by other carriers in that country first. That should help you narrow it down/save you some time.
