No. The tablet's USB port cannot supply the necessary charging amperage.

From what I read in the manual, USB charging should work for the tablet, but not the dock? When I have USB plugged in (to either a PC or an ipad charger) there is no indication of charging (but USB connected shows in system Panel)
Is this normal?
That's normal for the original Transformer and does agree with the Prime manual the way I interpret it.
Are you trying a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port? It may charge from a USB 3.0 port, which is what the charger's USB port is. I've never tried charging from a USB 3.0 port, in spite of actually having a new PC here with one.
My charging setup is to have the ASUS charger plugged in to a power strip, I then have a six foot USB 3.0 cable extension, then the standard short ASUS USB 3.0 to 40-pin tablet cable. This works great.
Bye.

mine will not charge from just USB either I have to use the power brick that came with it.
ok, I hadn't realised the port was usb3. Makes sense, even if it is a little annoying to have to always have the charger (like if I want to charge in the car)
Are there any car chargers that would work with the Prime?

Quite simply, yes. Anything with a micro usb end connected to a power output will charge it.
Yes, regardless of the voltage at the outlet the computer is plugged into ALL USB ports run at 5 Volt (that is a USB STANDARD) so you can plug into the USB port and charge, the only reason it might not charge in a USB port is if the computer is REALLY old (pre USB 2.0) as the amperage of USB 1.1 is to low to be able to charge the player.
On a side note my 4.0 seems to last longer between charges when charged with the standard charger vs. charging thru the USB of the computer.
and if charge with the travel adapter, all i'll need is the cord that transports from american to moroccan ? or a transformer current too ?
(We have 220V)

yes, just looked at my charger and it will accept between 100 and 240 volts, so you just need the wall plug adapter.
yes its fine ive tried myself no problem
Yes you can , but it take long time .

to charge s3 using usb cable from another mobile manufacturer (BB) connected to laptop.
I know there are differences in wall chargers (Amp, V) but I guess usb cables are standardized?
also I have another question regarding charging @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803142

I think it shouldn't produce any harm to the device.
Read THIS for more information about charging through USB.
Absolutely no problem with this.
Just make sure you don't end up using something like this. For those who don't get it, those fake chargers fed 12V directly to the USB connector, supplying almost 2.5 times the nominal USB voltage. Doing this WILL fry most USB devices on the market, S3 included.
Been using 3 others usb cable for charging. No problem so far.

Hi All,
Just want to confirm whether Xperia Tablet can be charged via USB cable connected to PC/laptop USB port?
It indicates in the notification drawer that you must connect the power adapter to charge, but it most certainly does charge, albeit very slowly.
