Official Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2
Update Rolls Out The Backdoor
Posted by Travis Williams
If you are an owner of the Samsung Galaxy S3 with
model number GT-i9305 you will be happy to hear that
OTA updates are being sent out by Vodafone in Spain.
Owners of the handset are able to download it through
KIES and if you are in the UK you are able to download
the update and then install it manually.
The update does not come with any extras, such as
ClockworkMod and you don’t have to have anything
installed as the update takes place with the ODIN tool.
Check out the instructions below, but you take
responsibility for updating your handset.
Android 4.1.2 XXBME3 Jelly Bean Firmware Details
PDA: I9305XXBME3
CSC: I9305ATLBME2
Version: 4.1.2
Date: June, 2013
Pre-Requisites
Take note that the XXBME3 firmware along with the
instructions are only for the Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-
i9305 version. You should check the model number of
your device in Settings – About phone.
Before undertaking the update you will have to back-up
your settings and data to avoid losing it.
Make sure that the handset is not locked to any carrier
and that the boot loader has been unlocked.
You should also check that you have the USB drivers
installed on the computer.
Make sure that you have USB debugging enabled, you
can go into Settings – Developer Options on Android 4.0
or if you have Android 2.3, you can find this in Settings –
Applications – Development. If you have Jelly Bean 4.2
you will need to go into Settings – About Phone, choose
build number and then tap on this seven times to reveal
the hidden Developer options in Settings.
You should then out a tick in the check box under USB
debugging mode in Settings – Developer options.
You should have around 80% charge in the battery to
make sure the handset does not switch off.
How to Install Official Android 4.1.2 XXBME3 Jelly Bean
OTA on Galaxy S3 GT-I9305
Step 1: Extract the firmware zip file to the desktop to get
a .tar.md5 file and some other files (optional).
Step 2: Extract Odin zip file to obtain Odin3 v3.07.exe
along with few other files.
Step 3: Power off the phone and wait for vibration (about
5-6 seconds) to confirm complete device shutdown.
Now boot the phone into Download Mode by pressing
and holding Volume Down, Home and Power button
together until a construction Android robot icon with a
triangle appears on screen. Then hit Volume Up button
to enter Download Mode.
Step 4: Launch Odin3 v3.07.exe that you obtained in
Step 2 as an Administrator, as Admin privileges are
required to complete the firmware installation process
smoothly.
Step 5: Connect your phone to computer via USB cable.
When the device connects successfully, a message
saying “Added!” appears in ODIN and the ID: COM box
will turn yellow with the corresponding COM port
number. If the message fails to appear, try reinstalling
the phone’s USB drivers or changing the port on the
computer.
Step 6: Choose the following files from the extracted
I9305XXBME3 folder that you obtained in Step 1 by
using respective checkboxes:
Select the PDA checkbox, and click the ‘.tar.md5′ file
Tap the Phone checkbox, and select the file named
‘modem’ (ignore if such file is not found)
Choose the CSC checkbox, and click the file named
‘CSC’ (ignore if there is no such file)
Click the PIT checkbox, and choose the ‘.pit’ file (ignore
if the file is missing)
Step 7: In Odin, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time
options by selecting the checkboxes. But the Re-
Partition checkbox must be selected only if a .pit file
was chosen in the previous step in ODIN.
Step 8: To prevent ROM related errors, verify Step 6 and
Step 7 are done correctly. Then hit the START button to
begin flashing the firmware.
Step 9: Once the firmware installation is complete, the
phone will reboot automatically and soon a PASS
message with green background appears in the left-
most box at the very top of Odin. Now it is safe to
unplug the USB cable to disconnect the device from
computer.
The Galaxy S3 GT-I9305 is now running on the latest
Android 4.1.2 XXBME3 Jelly Bean OTA firmware. Go to
Settings > About Phone to verify the firmware installed.
Troubleshooting:
If the Samsung Galaxy S3 is stuck at boot animation or
Samsung logo after Step 9, then go to recovery mode
(press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power
buttons together) and perform Wipe data/Factory Reset
as well as Wipe Cache Partition before choosing reboot
system now option. NOTE: Use Volume keys to navigate
between options and Power key to select an option in
recovery. Performing data wipe task will only erase your
phone’s internal memory and not the data on SD card.

[HOW TO] Guide to update/root from Bell/Virgin Mobile KG2 (2.3.3) to XWKK5 (2.3.6)

Hi everyone,
I made this thread because I wanted to make a guide of my own to update your Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100. I'm with Virgin Mobile, so I can confirm this work fine. You wont lose any of yours data, apps.
I experienced a better battery lifetime, better signal reception, gps, etc.
I put together many different guide to make things easier for new users.
All guides here are from XDA developers. I don't take any credits for them.
First you need Samsung Kies if you don't already have it. This is only to get the driver for your phone. Plug in your phone with usb cable and wait for the peripheral to get recognize.
After this close Kies and kill any process named Kies in your task manager.
download here
http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/m...softwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL
or french version
http://www.samsung.com/fr/kies/
Take your phone; hit parameter, applications, developement and check usb debog and fictitious position ( sorry my phone is in french not sure how its called in english, just check both option). You have to uncheck them if you want to transfer files on your phone like you do normally.
Now you need :
Get Odin v1.85 from here: http://www.multiupload.com/1RTGSE061G
Scroll down the page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
XWKK5
Android 2.3.6
This package has: PDA: XWKK5| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKH2
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/7FKGH0Y68X
XWKK5 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/HK8G4YGXWJ

The stock kernels are to be used to restore the kernel version after rooting and are not needed for updating the firmware.
You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.
Please ensure that KIES is closed and not running in the system tray! Kies doesn't like Odin, it's like the big brother who's always jealous that his little brother is getting to flash all the phones so he starts to flash block.
Flashing Firmware with Odin
1. Just download the firmware version you want from the second or third posts and extract the .tar or .tar.md5 file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted in step 1
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron
Should look like this screenshot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Regardless of firmware version it's still the same methodology
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow
7. Click start to flash
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.
It will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended
You will lose root so just re-root with the guide below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Instructions - ODIN (long)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
Yellow Triangle Removal
Just flash the original kernel I linked.
Tutorial can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1193091
Alternatively you can use a Jig as it also resets the custom Rom counter
Tips
Download Titanim Backup from the market once your phone is rooted. It backup everything and put back all yours apps, icones the way they were.
Get Juice defender and autokiller memory for you battery. It really work well. There's a cool feature where you can downclock your cpu at idle if its rooted.
You can get the original firmware from here (2.3.3)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
If you need to put back your phone the way it was when you bought from the store.
Thats's all enjoy GingerBread 2.3.6.
Feel free to post if there's any mistake or something missing.
How come you chose XWKK5? Would I be ok to use the XWLA4 firmware from Germany?

That too!
this is en example that help u flash with odin. (Proceed at your own risk)
Step by Step Instructions:
Download the Android Firmware
Extract the downloaded file ‘I9100XXKL1_I9100OXAKL1.rar’ to get these 3 files:
CODE_I9100XXKL1_CL783870_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKL1.tar.md5
MODEM_I9100XXKL1_REV_02_CL1085162.tar.md5
Download Odin software
Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC. Switch Off your phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
Now, put the Galaxy S2 in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume_DOWN+Home+Power.
this is required to install the XXKG1 using Odin PC Software.
Open Odin (from step 3) — Odin3 v1.85.exe.
Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added! !”
under the Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message,
than probably there is a problem with drivers. Make sure you’ve drivers installed.
Important! On Odin, Do NOT tick the ‘Re-Partition’ checkbox, but keep the ‘Auto Reboot’ & ‘F.
Reset Time’ checkboxes ticked. Do not touch any other checkbox or tab or anything, except as required in step 9 below.
Select these files in Odin at respective tabs (check out the screenshot given at the top for help):
Click the PDA Tab, and select CODE_I9100XXKL1_CL783870_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5 (from step 2.1)
Click the Phone Tab, and select MODEM_I9100XXKL1_REV_02_CL1085162.tar.md5 (from step 2.3)
Click the CSC Tab, and select GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKL1.tar.md5 (from step 2.2)
Now, hit the START button to let the process begin.
When process at Odin finishes your phone will automatically reboot —
and you can unplug the cable then.
Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin.
If it’s red and with FAIL written over it, the process flashing process wasn’t successful.

Successfully rooted Galaxy Player 4.0 YP-GB1 (Korean Version)!!

I wanted to post how I rooted my Samsung YP-GB1 for those that are having trouble. My galaxy is the Korean version, 16gb, 2.3.6 stock firmware, and has the KRKPC kernel.
1). Check your kernel in the about device section. It should have KRKPC in the title. Then go here to download the modified stock kernel:
(pspmaster.tistory.com/120)(your looking for build 39 at the bottom of the page).
2). Make sure the system drivers are installed, by simply connectiong to kies. Kies will install the drivers automatically when you connect your device to it. then make sure kies is closed before continuing.
3). Download odin3 and unzip and run program.
4). Make sure "Auto Reboot & "F.Reset Time" are checked. Check the box next to "PDA" and click the "PDA" button. This will allow you to locate the new downloaded kernel on you computer and load it!
5). Now before connecting your galaxy to your computer put it in download mode first. Hold the power, volume down, and home button at the same time. Once you see the downloading screen connect your device to your computer.
6). Once your device is connected, you will see a yellow box appear in the first "ID:Com" box in the odin software. You are now ready to click start!
7). Click start and let it do it's magic. The galaxy will reboot automatically after lots of text appear on the screen.
8). Then go to the "play Store" and download the "Tegrak Kernel" app. Open and scroll down to "enable rooting." Allow superuser permission and your done!
I would recommend if your new to this going to youtube and searching for "how to flash a kernel" and watch some tutorials before trying. Also, thanks to Tegrak and the developers who put so much time into making our android experience just that much better!!
Please remember I am not a developer and am not resposible if you mess your device up! I searched the forum for quite some time and asked questions before trying this, so please do the same if you feel reluctant to try!
This is tegrak's blog

I am very keen to root my Korean yp-gb1 32Gb device.
I would try the method suggested by the OP but in 'About device' and under 'Build number' it says "GINGERBREAD.KRKPH", which is different from the one stated.
My 'Firmware version' is 2.3.6 and the 'Kernel version' is 2.6.35.7.
I unsuccessfully tried 'superoneclick' and 'DoomLoRD's rooting programs. Then I learnt somewhere in the forums that the kernel needed flashing before this device could be rooted.
Would it be safe to try the procedure that this thread is dedicated to?
Can I get some help please?
question
may Kernel is KRKPH how can i root it

New to android, need help

hello guys I bought my first android fone, S3,
it was preinstalled with 4.1.1 version I updated to 4.1.2 using kies but it only changed the version, I was hoping it would format everything and would start my s3 from brand new stage but it didn't, I want to know how can I install 4.1.2 thru pc and it installs the rom from scratch and s3 should boot like its out of box.
kindly tell me step by step which files I need and how to do it.
and like I said im new to android so I have no idea what to search in this forum.
thanks.
***NOTICE***
Before doing this do a back up in the recovery menu, search Xda if you aren't sure how. I'm not liable for any bricked, whether soft or hard, devices. Only use your DEVICE SPECIFIC ROMs and/or Kernels.
***NOTICE***
First off, Google Odin, download and install it and download and install your phones drivers to your computer, search on the forum for the KERNEL SPECIFIC Stock ROM for your S3, there are TUTs on Xda here on how to find out which one is for you, now, once you have the ROM downloaded normally its in .zip format, run Odin as administrator, right click it and select run as administrator, now, plug your phone into your computer and put it into download mode, Volume +/- and power at the same time until you see a yellow triangle, now press the Volume + button to continue, after that look in Odin to make sure you have the yellow COM number, you'll know if you have it, its highlighted yellow and says "COM:4" the number doesn't matter and may be different, if you don't have the COM number then re-install your phone drivers, now, open the Stock ROM .zip file and extract it to your desktop, open Odin and click PDA,now select the .tar file for the Stock ROM and press start and Wa-La, your phone should re-boot in approximately 10 seconds if all goes well.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Need help upgrading Android on an i717 unlocked

I purchased an AT&T Note 1 or i717. It currently has version 4.0.4 on it and would like to get the most recent (AND STABLE) version I can. A basic stock android would be fine, doesn't need to be a rocking mod or anything like that, just something that won't crash every day and where everything works.
Can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction? I did the search function but couldn't find out where to begin. Thanks for all who are able to assist me

Kies will get you the latest firmware available for your device.
1. On a PC open http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
2. Click Download for windows
3. Install Kies
4. Open Kies
5. Write down serial number of phone device (it's under battery)
6. Plug in phone to PC and power up phone while HOLDING volume down
7. Once you see the download screen on phone press volume up
8. On PC in Kies click "tools - Firmware Upgrade and Initialization"
9. Type in SGH-I717 (all caps)
10. Type in serial number
11. Follow directions
12. Once phone reboots you will have the latest OFFICIAL firmware (JB 4.1.2 as of 6-1-2013)
13. Perform a factory data reset before proceeding (it helps it run smoother)
14. Type in google info and enjoy!
Why not use the built-in OS update? Waaay better than Kies.
Just go to settings> phone> check for update. No PC needed.

I thought upgrading to 4.1.2 was ONLY available via Kies? (we are talking stock upgrade, not custom)
(or Odin I guess, if you download the flashable file)
The current stock at&t rom is 4.1.2 and it is delivered OTA through update menu.
Even though its an AT&T phone, I had it factory unlocked. Currently using in on a T-Mobile service. Gonna have to try the Kies method I guess.

Damn. Here in Canada (or at least in BC), its only available via Kies. GB -> ICS was OTA, but ICS -> JB isn't. At least on Bell its not.
Sorry if I stepped in where I shouldn't.
That's good information about Canadian carriers not offering OTA upgrades. Lucky for this amigo he's at&t so he can get up to date OTA.

Ok, having issues here. I've done 1-6 when I do #7, Kies makes a noise, like its trying to connect to the phone, goes to another screen for just a a second, looks like a cable attaching to a phone, then goes back to splash screen. Tried several usb ports, different cables, even Kies' troubleshooting guide where it reinstalls the driver. Still the same thing. Any suggestions?
You can try this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
I have the same .tar file, but built for Bell here in Canada.
I flash it through odin, then flash TWRP. Then I flash my bell modem, flash counter reset file, then re-flash stock recover. Then I use OTA to get to ICS, then Kies to get to JB.
I can write more specific instructions for what 'I' do, if that might help. I can also try to track down files for ATT (not bell) when I get a bit of free time. Hope that helps you get closer to the end you are wanting!
If it wouldn't be too much trouble, sure. I can't figure out the next step. I'm considering just selling it and buying something new with JB already in it, lol.
Has anyone experienced the same issues or am I just the special one
Is it the stock 4.0.4 on the phone now? Then, you should be able to just upgrade to stock 4.1.2.
I was never on stock, so I don't know if the update can be done via OTA, but you should be able to use Kies on your computer to update it. At the very least, you will have JB even with the stock bloat.
