[Q] Bravia Engine - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I have a feeling that my bravia engine is not working. How can i make sure that it works?
I have tried taking screenshot of a picture with turnig engine off and on and comparing pictures on pc. (Maybe picture was already good enough that Bravia didn't effect that, but i have tried a couple of them).
I had once unlocked bootloader but relocked it back. Device is Xperia P.
Any help is appreciated.

When you unlock bootloader, you lose BE, Download music Info like facilities AFAIK if you do not backup a "(somename).ta" file prior to unlocking BL..
Without taking a backup, you will not get back those facilities even after relocking.
Though there should be some possible ways in the respective thread as for my Xperia U too there's a thread to get back these features working after relocking.

You can get bravia engine etc... back after relocking...but you will have to go back to stock kernel and rom...if you want to you can follow the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301489
if you have relocked already then use this method:
1-Unlock bootloader
2-Flash stock 6.2.A.1.100 via flashtool...reboot device and let the rom settle
3-Copy the BE File (file downloaded in link above) to ur sd card
4-Root your device and install cwm
5-Now flash a custom kernel with cwm and reboot
6-Go to cwm again and flash tha BE File. do not use reboot option. Choose Power Off option in CWM(it's recommended u flash sliding and phantom)
7-Flash the stock kernel via flashtool and turn on the device
8-Turn off and flash relock ftf via flashtool
9-Power it up and enjoy again for the BE
But whenever you flash new rom...you lose BE again and need to follow same procedure....So backup is good option...Now you cannot use BE with custom rom...

Thank you so much, before relocking bootloader i flashed the 6.2.A.1.100 firmware and next i relocked bootloader, why do i need to flash a custom kernel to have bravia engine?
OK, i deleted data of Walkman apps, i went to CWM Recovery and i flashed the BE file, wiped cache and dalvik cache, bravia engine seems to work

Glad that worked for you...
In my case i had already relocked bootloader and was using custom rom...i had to follow above mentioned procedure to make BE working...custom kernel maybe for latest cwm that gives power off feature ............

Me too, i had already relocked bootloader and using stock rom, but i tried to flash that file without unlocking bootloader and it worked

[Q] Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman (wt19i) issue while flashing ROM

I've got a problem, but I'm not sure if it's been addressed anywhere else on here, I've searched through several pages. I've found a situation that was similar, but not the same. So I'm putting it out there, and hoping someone will solve it:
I've got a Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman (WT19i)
I rooted my phone, unlocked it's bootloader, and flashed a ROM; everything went well until it rebooted. Now I'm stuck at the point where the "Sony Ericsson" logo is shown, i've been stuck there for almost 30 minutes now.
Any help possible? Any at ALL would be MUCH appreciated.

What ROM are you trying to flash on your phone?
Did you checked first if the Bootloader was actually unlocked?
Did you flash a custom kernel thru fastboot?
Custom ROM needs custom kernel.

I was trying to flash HYBROM.
Bootloader was unlocked for sure as I had installed Coconut previously, which also requires bootloader unlock.
No worries though; i solved my problem. I flashed an older firmware, along with a bootload relocker, with Flashtool. Now my phone has switched on, to my stock ROM. Still no clue how to flash hybrom ROM as it caused the same problem even after wiping dalvik cache and all other data (which was the solution provided by dev)

check first page of hybrom thread
Installation instructions
Needs unlocked bootloader
(actually hybrom does not contain a boot image. Thus, when you install hybrom you don't mess with your boot image at all.BUT recovery from nAa is installed in /system and while system is formated during the installation of hybrom, recovery messes with it self. That's why unlocked bootloader and a custom kernel with recovery is necessary for now to install hybrom)

I did not deny that a custom kernel is needed, I wanted to know how to flash/use a custom kernel?
To flash a custom kernel you need to have flashtool (sticky thread on the dev section) so:
1.- you download the custom kernel (it is a boot.img file)
2.- open flashtool
3.- connect your phone to your computer while the phone its off and you are holding the volume up key without releasing it the notification led should turn on blue.
4.- if the phone it's not recognized go to the flashtool folder and install the drivers located on the drivers folder once it is done repeat step 3 and it should be recognized.
5.- once your device it's connected click the thunderbolt icon on flashtool in the new screen select fastboot mode and continue.
6.- in the new screen click on select kernel to flash and browse to the boot.img you downloaded.
7.- check the flashtool log to make sure everything is fine if it is you are good to go.
Hope it helps.

Depending on the ROM, you want to install, you need correct kernel.
CM ROMs work only with FXP kernels, included in their topic.
MIUI ROMs have only specific kernels also, included in their topic.
Stock-based ROMs(XROM, Hybrom) work with Rage Kernel, X Kernel, bbooff's kernel, all these are in Development section, just search.
Glad to be helpful anything else just let us know.
Thanks very much!
I have a live with walkman from 3 etwork. the bootloader is locked. can I still flash hybrom 16 through CWM?
check service menu,
confirm if bootloader can be unlocked.
it should state "bootloader unlock allowed : yes".
after unlocking bootloader then there will be no problem installing hybrom
check this thread for more info about unlocking bootloader.

Fantastic How'd you flash it? same as hybrom? (Unlock bootloader then flash?)

Backup TA Partition & DRM on all Xperia Devices using Flashtool!

Hi,
I recently got an Xperia P and was looking around to unlock it to flash custom ROMs,
soon, i realized that unlocking the phone will lose the DRM keys, so things like Track ID and bravia engine etc. will stop working and won't work even after re-locking the bootloader!
But, no worries,
You can choose anyone you want, some people even claim that they simply unlocked their devices and everything (BE, Track ID) is still working fine!
All you need to make sure is that don't flash any other device's TA!
It will BRICK you phone!
Steps
Using Backup-TA Tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41763438
SUPPORTED DEVICES
Confirmed:
Sony Xperia Z
Sony Xperia ZL
Sony Xperia ZQ
Sony Xperia ION
Sony Xperia S
Sony Xperia SL
Sony Xperia SP
Sony Xperia T
Sony Xperia TX
Sony Xperia P
Sony Xperia L
Sony Xperia U
Sony Xperia Sola
Sony Xperia Tablet Z
Most likely:
All Sony Xperia models
Not supported:
All Sony Ericsson Xperia models
Guide
1. Download the latest version of Backup TA.
2. Extract the ZIP file to a folder location of your choosing.
3. Navigate to the folder location of Backup TA.
4. Make sure no other script or application which is using ADB is running.
5. Make sure the device is booted in normal mode, the way you normally use it.
6. Run Backup-TA.bat
7. Read the license.
8. Choose one of the menu options.
9. Follow the instructions given by the tool.
Thanx to @DevShaft
In the meanwhile, if your phone is unlocked, you can still get the track id and bravia engine working!
There's a thread for that too, over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301489
All you need to do is download the ZIP file from there and flash it via CWM!

But, no worries, a new version of flashtool has been released that allows to back up the TA Partition so that u can keep ur DRM keys safe and unlock the bootloader,
now, whenever you feel like relocking it, just flash the TA partition back and the DRM keys will return, Track ID, bravia engine, everything will be working!
flashtool 0.9.11.0
Added TA partition backup/restore. Using this feature, you can backup TA before unlock.
Restore TA will relock the devicee and get DRM back as well as BE2 :cyclops:
(full complete relock).
However, You cannot count on this feature if ever your device is
already unlocked. Missuse of this feature can brick the device!

Yes, if you unlock the bootloader, u'll lose DRM keys and so track ID and BE won't work,
but download the zip file fix from the link i've mentioned and those things will be back!
you'll need to relock bootloader first.
Don't use any other device's TA Partition!
@dimon2242: as Kumczak said, you can't use another device's TA Partition!

[Guide]Rooting 14.2.A.1.136

This is still a WIP as Devs do their good work
[EDIT]
Although a few people seem to have had issues, I'm removing this big RED warning as these instructions work well where it says tested, but still: Use this guide at your own risk!!!
[/EDIT]
Rooting guide for the new 14.2.A.1.136 firmware:
This will void your warranty, don't flash without a full battery or if there is a black cat near by. If this bricks your Z-Ultra I blame the Waikato Draught
Upgrading from .290 already rooted Unlocked BL Working
Flash ftf and follow Coming from stock 14.2.A.1.136 with unlocked BL
Path 1. Coming from stock 14.2.A.1.136 with unlocked BL Tested as working
This will give you Dual Recovery (CWM+TWRP)
Download @Chainfire's SuperSU http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
Download @jackie099's kernel and recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631866
Copy SuperSU to SD card of phone
Flash @jackie099's recovery kernel from flashtool (boot into fastboot mode)
Boot into recovery
Flash SuperSU update from recovery
Re-boot
Path 2. Coming from stock 14.2.A.1.136 with unlocked BL Tested as working
This will give you these Recoveries (CWM & PhilZ Touch & TWRP)
Download @ChillyChan's dual recovery kernel https://db.tt/MSIQ5ZNW (read about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575909)
Download XZDualRecovery kernel with recovery http://nut.xperia-files.com/downloa...kZHVhbHJlY292ZXJ5Mi43LjgwLUJFVEEuZmxhc2hhYmxl
Download @Chainfire's SuperSU http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
Copy SuperSU and XZDualRecovery to SD card of phone
fastboot boot (hotboot from flashtool) @ChillyChan's dual recovery kernel (we only want to boot this kernel/recovery, not flash it)
Flash XZDualRecovery from recovery
Flash SuperSU update from recovery
Re-boot
If you only have partial root then change /sys/kernel/security/sony_ric/enable (from '1' to '0')
Coming from stock 14.2.A.1.136 or 14.2.A.0.290 with locked BL
Get a rooted .290 install then continue from below "Upgrading from .290 already rooted Locked BL"
To get root on .290 follow below or [NUT]'s/jackie's stock .290 for locked BL
Flash [NUT]'s .532 http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=3442 (read guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593918)
skip setup
settings
- enable dev settings
- enable usb debuging
Root with this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
- Option 0
Run http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426739 to get recovery
Download DoggRom for C6833
Download latest ZU-lockeddualrecovery2.7.xx-BETA.flashable.zip
Save both to SD card
Download .136 ftf for your Ultra - Save in flashtool firmware folder
Now comes the tricky bit
Charge phone - I used 40% of the battery while doing this
Reboot to recovery
Wipe Data
Flash a stock based rom (DoggRom for c6833 or [NUT]'s etc) from recovery - DON'T REBOOT
Flash ZU-lockeddualrecovery2.7.xx-BETA.flashable.zip from recovery
POWER OFF the phone - don't reboot
Start flashtool
Select flash
Select Flashmode
Select the .290 ftf or .136 ftf
[Top Box] Uncheck everything
To make sure that there are no mismatch issues like on the Z1 that has lead to DEAD devices
[Middle Box] Check excludes for system only. We may need at least all of these: KERNEL, ELABEL, BOOTBUNDLE, AND BASEBAND
Flash
Reboot phone when done
Run XZDualRecovery 2.7.xx from the pc to get recovery if needed
Upgrading from .290 already rooted Locked BL Should be working
The easiest way ATM is to use [NUT]'s 136 ROM ( testing stages):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631768
Thankyou to these good folk.
With out your work all of this would be most difficult.

@chemcup for the FTF
@ChillyChan & @[NUT] & @jackie099 for the recoveries and kernels

I think there is a subtle kernel difference as when i flashed the FTF it works fine. flashing .290 kernel does the same thing. random reboots...
I think I need a break. 3 days without sleep and the pills are wearing off i think.

I have noticed that the touch vibrations are less intensive. That the screen is snappier.. I don't think its a sensitivity issue as changing the sensitivity in the ROM still make it snappier, but lessens the sensitivity. So not sure what Sony did there. But I like it.
(not that this is me currently not using a screen protector on my brand new unit)
There are a few more apps included but thats probably an FTF issue. i.e. European apps.

I can't updating for C6802 via Sony PC Companion, had error ( may be my ZU UBL).
Please show me where I can down C6802 the ROM FTF !
Worked for me
Thanks for the guide!.
After following the instructions my phone is now working fine, including wifi, but system read/write only works one minute after it boots so xposed doesnt work either. im an idiot that forgot to install the apk for xperia devices using 4.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48484642&postcount=6846). I read the XZDualRecovery thread and aparently this was fixed in beta 2.7.80, the same one posted here, but for me it didnt do the trick.Im just posting this here so other people are aware that there might be problems with it, after all its a wip.. Now everything its working fine, Thanks again
(Using a c6802 with an unlocked bootloader, came from a c6802 stock .290, flashed .136 c6833 ftf from germany)

Unlock BL-Root .136-Relock BL

Hey, I just followed the following steps and have working Bravia engine (Me thinks ) with root on a .136 C6833.
Backup TA.
unlock bootloader
1) full flash .136 ftf using flashtool. let the phone boot up and do all the initial setup.
2) Flash jackie's kernel.
3) flash update_SU 1.93.zip
4) using flashtool, flash kernel only (.136)
5) restore TA and relock bootloader
voila rooted .136 with a locked BL and working Bravia Engine
Credits to jackie099 for his kernel and DevShaft for BackupTA utility.
I didnt do any research so no credits to me
i just tried something on my phone and it worked so am posting it!!
Mods if am offending someone or violating any rules, pls notify and delete the thread!
If one hasn't already ready backed up their TA then root is required for the 1st step.

If you spread any instructions, then I ask to give references to other sources.
For example jackie's kernel. Where I shall look for it?
using flashtool, flash kernel only (.136)
NO !
If you gonna flash just a kernel your Update center will pop up notification about new system .136 system update.
So to remove that you have a choice.
-You need to remove Update center.apk.
or
You need to flash like this (everything besides "system" and "wipe app data")
This is XDA, if you cant search...

Where he says to flash just the kernel you already have a full .136 so i doubt updatecentre will care.
To OP congrats on finding this out (although it is semi common knowledge that it will work like that)
Just one thing, if you unlock the BL again it will cause another data format, but you can make a backup of the TA in its unlocked bootloader state and use that to unlock and thus not format data. Just make sure you have them well named.
Quick question..
To get root: I ota to 136, unlock bl, flash Jackie ric kill kernel/recovery, flash su. I wouldn't mind trying this but how is "partial root" problem avoided when using the stock non ric kill kernel that is required to relock bl?

@muntaha_v3 or @blueether ~ same question as buzman; don't you need non standard kernel to keep full root (system rw).

True, but many people only need read access to /system. May be that is the case here?
And you could always flash a unlocked backup and hot-boot a modded kernel for the odd occasion that you need full root?
Or, as I thought just after posting, a "system r/w access" start up script prior to stock kernel flash and you could also keep full root after stock kernel flash.

Sorry guys, was busy with some official Training programs so didnt have time to come online.
1) Yes you have only read access to system.
2) Restoring TA doesn't cause full wipe.
3) this i tried for some of those friends of mine who own Xperia Z1 and Z but dont exploit their full potential because they are scared they'll lose warranty. Convinced one of them, the others are still in line though. Shame on them
Not meaning to get pedantic, maybe the thread should be renamed to "unlock bl, su, relock bl" as root implies rw access to root lol (unless rw script for system is run during boot)

Poor photos quality

I'm on .28 existenz Y but no matter which rom/stock i use, photo quality is terribly weak. For example, the front camera, It has a lot of noise, whatever or is sunny or is dark. The rear camera makes good pictures until you look at the details. What is wrong? You know how to correct it?
Someone also has the impression that xperia Z2 doing ugly pictures?

Here is a simple DRM restore solution:
1.flash .69 ftf
2.relock and unlock the bootloader after that
3.turn on the phone and force it off(volup+power)
4.flash .28 ftf without TA
5.flash Androplus kernel(to get recovery) and in TWRP flash the DRM restore zip
6.it should work

Those instructions worked for me and for everyone else. It has to work with your device, there is no reason it shouldn't. It also worked on my Z1.
I forgot to mention that you need to relock and unlock the bootloader after you flash .69. I updated my previous post with proper instructions.
BTW I have the device from 5 days and did it, so is can't be a problem for you.

I think not.
You must be forgetting something. Are you using .69 or other kk ftf? It must be .69 to work. Also, the relocking has to happen while on .69(in my case it didn't even boot like the original instruction said, but it worked). The .69 firmware ABSOLUTELY needs to have TA in it! Maybe that is the mistake? I can't think of other reasons.

ok, I'll do it as soon as let you know. what i want to do? i want back this DRM keys, but i want to flash existenz too, should it work?
I'm interested in this too, currently I'm on existenz with androplus kernel, but I want to get DRM back because the camera quality is really bad.
can I flash .69, then lock and unlock the bootloader, then flash the existenz rom, after the androplus kernel and after the DRM fix?
the problem that I'm facing, or at least I think it is, the existenz rom is a zip, and I need to flash a ftf, right?

6. flash androplus kernel
7. drm fix
8. existenz
when still doesnt work, whatever im gonna kill myself
whoa, take it easy, the phone doesn't worth it
if it works, can you post a link to the right files to flash and how to do so, I just got my phone the other day and I don't wanna mix something up with it already.
*haven't flashed any ftf files yet, still have to figure it out how to do it.

when i check drm keys with this service menus, that says [unknown error] and [active] what does it mean?
You can restore your DRM partition using your TA.img. Just download Backup-TA from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
connect your phone with USB debugging on then open .bat file of script then select "Convert TA.IMG". At this point there must be some folder to tell your where you put your img in. After there's a backup restore by press 2.
so a simple restore is enough and no need to go through the .69 flash/DRM fix zip ? are you sure ?
My TA backup was done on 4.4.x rom, would it work normally on LP roms ?
http://www.mrcrab.net/viewstockrom/12900-d6503.html
Try this FTF
Perform these steps
1. lock bootloader using Flashtools
2. flash 17.1.A.2.69 TW with full wipe
3. reboot, check camera and x-reality - OK
4. unlock bootloader
5. reboot, check camera and x-reality - still OK
6. root, install recovery
7.Install your rom
8.Install DRM restoration zip for LOLLIPOP
9.Reboot and restore your data. (Including your SD Card)
