[INIT.D] Penber Engine (renice script) - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

This script takes up a bit more ram but will keep reniced apps running smoothly and remaining running in your memory, thus making them less likely to automatically close out and quicker to open. It's originally by lpy but then tweaked by Spex and now I tweaked it a bit more to run better for these devices. Don't forget to give them credit as well, they deserve it.
Try this in on CM10.1 or PACrom JB: https://app.box.com/s/q1tntxd7cfvhxseiomnz

Dsexton acid tweaks

Not sure if anyone else has tried these tweaks with the atgs2 yet. I used them on my infuse and loved them, so decided to try them on Unnamed and they work great. I definitely notice the phone is faster and more responsive. Doesnt matter but quad scores went up too, my highest was 5,126 while overclocked to 1.6
Do our phones really need this? I can't see any difference
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I read that when in cwm you have to flash it twice. first time it aborted 2nd time it went finished. Maybe its just me but i notice a slight difference
Most of those tweaks either don't really do anything, aren't optimized for a device with 1GB RAM, or have potential serious negative side effects.
I believe that acidtweaks disables a bunch of filesystem syncs, which puts it in the "dangerous" category. (I am positive Samsung Adrenaline Shot does...) Of course, he doesn't bother to warn you of this.
If these tweaks were really THAT good with no negative impacts, they'd be Google's defaults.
I personally use these tweaks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
They work great, been using them ever since I had my captivate and wont run a ROM without these.

Those leaks are pointless... They optimize the lowmemkiller for a device with low memory - but that is NOT what our device is, we have 1GB RAM. I'd be surprised if many people have ever triggered the LMK at all on the GSII.
It not just the LMK that gets tweaked. The OOM gets tweak and a lot more that I don't understand. I don't know how you say it useless because I can tell a difference
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Is a speed tweak even necesary with this phone? This thing is so fast and smooth, I can't see it getting any faster. Seeing that it's lightning fast right out of the box, I think these tweaks would have to make it significantly faster to even notice. I"m speaking of OS operations only. I"d like to have faster browsing but I think that's more a function of ATT giving us more. The ONLY lag I have is the home button lag that is caused by the voice command. There's a fix but I kinda like VC right now.

[Q] Do all of the ICS roms here have that 624mb limit?

I had tried two ICS roms so far as we lose over 100mb in useable ram going from gingerbread to ice cream sandwich. Just wondering if all of the ICS roms are like that or not?
Any idea why we lose 100mb? I'd really like to have it back
It seems like that RAM is being allocated to integrated graphics and I did notice this across the board between dagr8's and smartguys port of team perfection ROMS.
Subscribed for more information, good question if we can change allocation.
Of course all of the ics roms will have the same amount of usable ram. They all use the same kernel, the stock kernel in the leak, cause without source it's pretty much going to stay that way.
I don't get the obsession with usable ram... It's Android, free ram is wasted ram. Stop worrying and let the lmk do its job.

There's this misconception that used RAM = slower, laggier performance and that also is not the case.
People need to check their Windows PC conceptualization of RAM usage at the door.

you are correct. Samsung dedicated more ram to the video card, which is probably to fix the black crush and gradient issues that are in the stock rom. Apparently the video ram allocated in gingerbread cant drive this monstrous display like they thought.
it does suck losing it, because its just that much less left for multitasking, but it fixed the display issues so its a good trade off for me.
also, this issue is not in android devices with tegra 3. With tegra 3 the video card has dedicated video ram, meaning that a 1gb android device shows 1 gb of total ram since its not shared with the video card. This is great because it means better multitasking because more apps stay in memory.

The obsession with usable ram is smoothness, it makes a difference, if it didn't why aren't we still all using 512mb phones?
Once the ram is filled up swapping has to occur, when this happens cpu cycles and flash read/write cycles are introduced and they slow down your experience..
Losing 100mb of ram is a big deal, its over 33% of available ram for me. And it does effect performance unfortunately.

It feel totally makes a difference, I have been complaining about this issue for the longest and all I hear is that it doesn't do anything to our phone. If it doesn't do anything why do I keep getting a message that states that I have no more ram and that it will close everything to free up ram. This is one thing that I really don't like about Android, I sure hope that this changes in the future, because no matter how much ram is installed on our phone we will always have an issue because we cant control what apps we can fully close..

100=1000/3? You might want to double check that one.
No matter how many tabs I open in chrome, along with beautiful widgets and Facebook, 2 email accounting syncing and Engadget, joystick, reddit and XDA apps running I never take a performance hit.
My advice is to spend less time running quadrant, your rams are being out to good use.

I think he meant 1/3 of free ram. Typically a stock gingerbread from had 320-350mb free ram.

Correct.. I lost 100mb or so of free ram, which forces the phone to swap more often. If we lost it to help the video card then that's fine, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else.
Maybe with an official build of ICS the sluggishness will be better...
Interesting point here... I saw a screen shot of an international Note on ICS and the max free RAM was at 803 MB. Maybe its just an issue with our ics leak that we have so little free RAM?

Been doing some testing on this. It appears that limiting the background applications to three returns the free memory back to gb levels. Been testing this all day with my objection rom, and my used memory has not gone above 472 used with 3 background applications running. That leaves plenty of room to run my games in the forground or office applications. Phone has been running smooth and with out error.
In objection rom to limit the back ground applications. Settings /development options / limit back ground process.
Also been looking at my wife's nexus with non rooted ics. Her phone shows 728 Meg of available ram. Not sure why our leaked version is showing only 656.

3.15 jellybean Rom lag?

All in all jelly bean is nicer looking and snappy when scrolling where it may not have been with ICS however I've tried 3 different roms now and am experiencing a system wide lag when performing basic transitions like going back in an app or clicking a link within it, even typing like I am right now it occasionally misses a beat then speeds back up. Its to the point where it takes almost 10 seconds to click on a link in facebook before the next action progresses. I would assume its the cpu or ram but not sure how to address the issue. Any help would be appreciated

had the same problem with jelly bean so I went to Meanbeam and it is much much better.
I have noticed that a difference after getting rid of bloat as well.

Turns out it was a memory issue (obviousely). It seems inherent in the initial build for our device the ram management is simply not on par with how ICS handled it. I had less than 50mb free memory but you've got to consider that HTC sense has already been allocated its memory so it shouldn't lag the whole system. Hopefully the next update will address the issue...til then I ran v6 supercharger script and patched the framework for new minfrees.
There's a lot of sense related bloat in the stock ROM. If you're not interested in bloat, try cm10. Everything that matters works as of 1/16. Cm10.1 is fancy, camera will shape up when deck isn't sleeping. Just don't go for a cheap lazy king of cm, especially if it's one of 5 by the same winzipper, or if it crams 6 or 7 buzzword in the topic title like "Linaro optimized" or "battery boost." I dunno whatever.

Why so laggy?

First i want to say Hi! to all of you out there.
Why is my neo-v so laggy?I tried many roms and kernels, but it still lags and i can't get an app to run properly withoul lagging. At first i thought it was the little amount of RAM,but i have a friend that has an LG Optimus Black and it laggs even more,so it can't be the RAM what else could it be?(I play CSR Racing a lot and with any Rom i tried it laggs, sometimes not so much)

Performance is a subjective term..
It varies from person to person.
Well, games do lag on our phones beyond a point and I've seen every android device lag after sometime of use while doing heavy multitasking, etc
Android OS as such needs to undergo a lot of development .
Well, you do have to pay a price for the seamless customizing option it gives us..

And yes, avoid overclocking. I never do. And if you switch to any SJB or moAOKP v3, you'd get enormous amount of RAM that you need not overclock!

Well yes, not all apps are compatible with it. Just think like your phone was a computer/PC.
You install windows xp which is themable and can become like windows 7 (i think transforming it to windows 8 would make it less efficient.)
So you have the lightets and most beautiful version of windows ever on your pc. But still windows xp can only use directx 9 and cant use internet explorer10 (but anyway who's using internet explorer nowadays.). Also a lot of software is not compatible with it.
So you install windows 7. Windows 7 will give you an amazing collection features, apps and such but they will perform slower compared to windows xp. (We are always talking about a computer with about 1,3~1.5Ghz proccesor)
So you must choose between these two: A lot of compatible apps and slow speed OR excellent performance with lower app compability. Well you choose. Gingerbread or ICS/JB. It is up to you and how you are going to use your phone.
Also with the lemon cake (if i rember correctly) version of android there is going to be a huge performance increase because it is going to support phone with ram of about 512MB which is what our phone has. And with a fully working kernel 3 Performance should be increased [email protected]!

actually it is 335 for gingerbread
340 for ics and
384 for jb *as you said
Well because of the fact that i am afraid of unlocking my bootloader (no money to fix/replace the phone from any damage caused) i cant tell you about custom kernels. But our phone has in general 512mb of ram. Generally some memory is taken by the kernel for some functions for example camera/gpu. Camera 720p has been removed from jelly bean so thats why it has more free ram.
That happens on every phone i guess.

Oh,and i have another question(about CSR Racing). When I am on stock gb or ics when i press to shift the gears it goes late(doesn't matter if i oc or not).I mean like 3 sec late. But when i am on a custom rom it changes the gear perfectly. Why is that happening?

Well it seems to be lighter and probably I guess more optimized. Ram doesnt matter for performance in this case. Gingerbead was made to work on devices with even lower ram thats why no problems excists. Also my guess is tha Jb can work on even less ram smooth enough. Ram in android is mostly occupied by cached processes which are "useless" for the Os to operate correctly.
Anyway about csr racing i know nothing ).

Its about a MOD for performance, go to the actual thread for more details ....( link is mentioned )
Some nice little enhancements, especially notable when scrolling large websites.
And funnily it fixed the 30-10% battery drop bug for me, now at 21% which so far i had never seen
Anyways I downloaded the pure performance from the devs website and here wat I found. Before whenever I used to reboot the device it woulfd eat up 10% of charge but after i flashed pure performance the device only showed me a decrease of only 2%of battery. The antutu scores shaked me as before I would only get a score of 11051 but after flashing these I got a score of 13942. The ui became even smoother andsmoother faster. 1080p video scrolling became flawless. 2g internet boosted up suddenly. I would surely recommend this to every user. Thanks to the dev to develop such a nice mod and to androidpratik to discover it

I flashed this MOD and these r changes I observed ...
1) The phone is now super smooth
2) Battery drain from 30% to 10% was fixed
3) Boots faster
4) 2G net is faster...3G speeds also improved, wifi performance was same though.
5) RIPTIDE GP 2 loaded faster than ever XD, no lags, smooth game play.
6) Antutu benchmark hits almost 14000 :fingers-crossed: ( I want 30000 :crying: )
7) The colors look just a bit more vivid ( may be some bias here, NEEDS TO BE VERIFIED )
8) Stainby time seems to have increased ( only 1% drain in 8 hours 30 mins with airplane mode on)
Whats the procedure? Simply flash or any wiping to be done before?

Internet would be very fast, they said. But my laptop could no longer connect to internet through tethering, they never said. The performance rise was negligible as i never needed a boost in the first place. I hope it gets better in the future..
You have a tethering issue too? Me too. I thought it was of the rom that im using. Lemme see. Ill try contacting the orginal author.
@androidpratik no. I didnt notice any such difference. But that might be due to me not looking for such a thing before. Hmm.

Tried this mod.
Performance is good but you will have to brace yourself as I dont think its a completely tested mod. Sim card contacts do not show up. Had to download sim contacts manager from playstore.
Bottomline: Would NOT recommend any friend to try this.

Also wanted to point out that the battery drain is very very very noticable. I saw the battery percentage drop by 8% within 10 minutes while browsing using wifi.
