I just wanna ask should I root or should I wait a bit

It depends how you want to customise your phone. If you want to use a custom launcher or kernel or to tune the device more finely such as uninstalling stock applications and using applications that require root like Greenify and the Xposed Framework, then yes.

[Q] none of you guys have Greenify???

my Motorola Atrix 4G is rooted and I was trying to install Greenify through Google Store, but it doesn't seem to work. it says "your device isn't compatible with this version."
I have also tried downloading APK from internet to install it, but it failed.
is it just my device? or none of you with rooted Motorola Atrix 4G have Greenify??
this is probably because the atrix is officially a gingerbread device. im not sure but I think greenify is only for ice cream sandwich and up. even if you are running a custom rom the playstore wont know, one possible solution is to use the xposed framework. you can install the xposed installer . its not on play store . google it. than find a module that will prevent the play store from not letting you install it. all of these mods are risky so make sure you have a good backup if things get screwed up
@ykim27,
If you are incapable of searching and/or reading, you should at least be able to mention the ROM version and variant you have installed.
Just FYI, Greenify does not support GB or older. There is a detailed thread about it here on XDA, which you would also know if you bothered to search some.
@ashraf sharif, as far as I know, Xposed requires Android 4.0+ as well.
sure but xposed installer is not on the playstore and if using a custom rom an atrix can easily run jellybean so it would be compatible with xposed
@ravilov
Greenify works with roms from ics and above,I have it in every rom I try as the replacer of the blur-gb task manager.
Playstore gets his info about compatibility from the build.prop so there is no issue with the fact that officially we have GB

@op
Unless you get an ICS ROM, just use TiBu and freeze.
Just be careful what you freeze...

I have both installed...
On ICS and JB.
Both doesn't support gb, as stated in each app's thread

Greenify is the stupidest app i've ever seen (apart from so called AntiVirus apps and task killers)! Why would you buy an expensive smartphone, just to turn off any smart features?! Isn't that paradox?

Because the not-so smart apps behavior.

Excactly, when your phone has 80apps or more, its important that you can control their behavior so that you can have the optimum battery duration. Of course you dont hibernate your Facebook or your email client or whatsapp or viber, but there are much more apps that dont need to run in background

This is a custom behaviour of Xperia Go casued by the lack of ram of it. I got it as well and i think everyone has. You are lucky you got a unlocked bootloader so my best guess would be for you to install a custom rom and a custom kernel with a better memory management because, from my experience, with the default ROM you can avoid that happening from time to time, and with a custom rom you can make it happen less times, but it will keep happening from time to time and it's very annoying
Yeah a lot annoying!! But maybe can any one fix that I try one kernel, you now what kernel is the best?

The easy way!
Just install Xposed Installer http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Run Xposed Installer from your phone and Install Xposed Framework (please follow instructions from Xposed Installer app to get the framework installed )
Search, Download & Install App Settings Module
Activate and open App Settings, search for your launcher (and your phone dialer too, maybe a good idea)
Enable App Settings for your app, look for Resident and enable it. Press Save icon.
If App Settings ask you to reset, do it.
Don't for get, you will need a rooted system.
FAQ:
¿Why does my phone slows down after locking some apps in memory?
Because you don't have enough RAM, please uninstall a virus called Facebook from your phone, it will help a lot.
I'm facebook addicted, my life depends on it ¿What can i do?
Get another gmail account just for your notifications and set it up in your facebook account. Open your facebook account in chrome if you want it full featured. Open in Opera Mini or UC Browser Mini for fast and low RAM consumption.

[Q] new to root

I want to root my Verizon s4 using the towel root method . I am running 4.4.2 and my question is do I need to factory reset before I run the root or can I just get straight to it and leave things such as nova launcher as is and root away? I'm me to this board and rooting to so I'd like my first one to go fairly smooth. Thanks Jesse
No need to do anything before beginning towelroot
Thanks that's what I was hoping to hear. Now let's get to it! Thanks. Any thing I might need to keep an eye out for before I make it rain? Thanks. Jesse

OK I downloaded towel root, root checker, and titanium backup and super su. Everything worked perfect and it does I have root access so what do you guys suggest first. What are your favorite apps that require root? I'm looking at the lmt app that has the pie for toggles looks like but I wanted your feed back in what you use the most. Thanks Jesse

Someone had the same question the other day, here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2846920
Thanks it's nice to know that there are forums like this to help keep me from really screwing up my phone. I'm sure I'll do it anyway but at least I can ask how to get it back. Thanks guys. Jesse

Switching between root and unroot?

So I've rooted my note 3 with towelroot and applied some tweaks and mods.
Unfortunately sky go doesn't work and it's an app I use quite regularly. Can I simply unroot with supersu, use sky go, then re root when I've finished with sky go? Do I have to undo the mods I've added with exposed installer? If so is the back up app which will speed up the process of re adding my mods?
Thanks

Battery life/kill running apps

Hi
I'm new on xda. I don't know much about rooting or any other info.
I have the experia z2. My battery life is good but I like to look after my device best I can. I've been running advanced task killer to kill apps and save battery life. But I recently read task killers are no good for your device.
I tried using greenify, but didn't like having to manually hibernate running apps myself as not rooted.
Could anyone suggest the best memory/battery life saver app etc I should use.
Any help appreciated thanks

1. Battery saving, ram freeing or any of those apps never work, they harm more then they do good
~Greenify is one that does
2. An app that helps alot with battery life is Unbounce or nlpunbouncer, its an xposed module which stops GAPPS from keeping your device awake for %25 of the time
Xposed module requires xposed installer and that requires root
Thanks. So I'd need to root my phone to get this app then?
I'm not really keen on rooting, as I don't know how to
How do I go about rooting my z2?
Is it safe, as I'm afraid of 'bricking it'

If you dont know much about rooting then leave it in the dust
And rooting is safe if you have common sense ;D
If any questions ask
I suggest greenify and stamina mode which you can find under power options, best you can do for battery life without root
Thanks
I already use stamina and just got greenify. My battery is kinda good but I just like to open up my device to more.
I would like to root to get custom roms etc.

Rooting and flashing are safe and they arent at the same time
Its all down to your common sense and reading
Rooting alone will grant alot more control and customization/modding
Flashing alows even more freedom but you are restricted by a locked bootloader (not recomended unlocking untill you know more)
Flashing custom roms there are a couple of things you should know
~if your bootloader is locked then you can only flash stock based custom roms
~flash roms only For your Xperia Z2, this applies for alot of mods, usualy try picking from the z2 sections
Right ok cool.
That's what I'd like to do. Customise and have more control.
I just don't really understand some things I read about it. I just need to read up on it and get to know everything
