[Q] Xperia P - Update Rooted Device - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello. I have an Xperia P. I will root my phone but stay in the stock rom. Just need to gain the admin access. If Sony will publish a new update, can i update my rooted phone? Or will it be broken or brick?

If you did not unlock the bootloader... But you will lose root.

If you just root without unlocking the bootloader,
Yes you can receive official updates from Sony.
The thing is NXT series can attain root without unlocking the bootloader also.
But if you unlock your bootloader and try to receive official updates, you may brick your phone !

I googled 'recoverx' and downloaded it. Its simple and easy to install recovery for (most) phones.
Remember to press thanks. Its a click away!

Thank you all. I rooted my phone. However, i can't find the settings for cpu and gpu. Additionally, does this rooting process harm the security of my phone, my passwords etc. ?

To overclock you need a kernel that can be overclocked.
The device may then be slightly faster, and will drain the battery much faster, and possibly damage.
Realy, this is not the phone for gaming, you can buy a better one for gaming (not that much better) for about $250 from China.
What you can do, it try to disable some feature you don't use or replace some apps with mods, for less lag and better battery life, or try one of the ROMs that are out there.

There is that "Force GPU rendering" in developer options, you won't see much saving from it.
Better identify what is causing drain that you can give up, and disable it.
What kind of battery life you have now, standby and screen on?

I use dialer and phone from [ JB ] [Apps ] [P,U,Go,Sola! ] Dark Themed Xperia Apps it may have a little delay when first oppened, the call log is laggy in portrait modenot much to do about it, but no lag when making or receiving a call. It also has speed dial and the phone has call recording.
"minimum usage" we can't compare.
My today stats are, 60% drain for a day and 7 hours, wifi and BT on, 3G data off,, screen on 1 hour 20 minutes, and 10 minutes call time, apps running viber, facebook and yahoo messenger.
I'm with The Dark ROM, and with stamina mode you can get over 3 days without charging.

+ use Greenify from Play store. It is really good app. for better battery life.

at&t note runs on one processor?!

Ok so im rooted and overclocked and was using setcpu then decided i wanna try something different so i tried system tuner! When i checked the cpu it said that one of the processors are off line! Then i pressed the info button and sure enough it says only reading one! So i went through the settings and found force both cores online!
Since then i have no lag and virtually no checkerboarding on the web! Anyway i was just wondering if im the only one who noticed this and maybe it could help those who say that they are still getting lag on they're roms using dag's kernel!
Also i hope devs will notice this thread since i can't post there yet and take advantage of this how ever they can!
Now don't quote me on this but most likely the second core only turns on for processor intensive activities such as high graphics games or multiple programs running at once. I do find it hard to believe that it would be totally disabled. Most likely this is done to conserve battery.

Okay if this really is the case I could also see at&t disabling the second core totally to save battery because of lte but i guess it will take a dev that has more experience with how qualcomm's multicore cpus work in android. report back with differences in battery life like how much faster does it drain now that both cores are forced on.
if you want both cores on click on boot settings and enable force all cpus online. that heats up your phone and eats more battery though+I do not see any benefits doing that.

Tomorrow ill post some pics of battery life usage!
And my phone doesn't get any hotter than normal not even while using my navi! Mostly it just gives no lag and better rendering in the browser/maps/etc!!

Same, but having a better processor helps. Like exynos. I bet once we update to ics if it ever happens, the differences will be only minor between processors, as it runs so nice.

Not entirely true.. the Galaxy Nexus has a kernel governor that turns one core off when the SCREEN IS OFF, but not when the phone is being used. Multiple kernel creators have since implemented this into their kernels. It is called "hot plugging" and it just turns CPU 1 offline when the screen is off and turns it back on when the screen is on

Just checked mine, rooted and OC with DaG's 0.1 version (first version). When I looked, it said the second CPU was offline. Changed it to online, we'll see how that impacts battery life.
How much of an advantage is smartassv2 anyway?
I just tried this with system tuner and both cpus were working but wone was of and on and zero was always on.
I am running stock rooted. If you just sit yhere and watch it you will see tje sevond core fires and shuts down alot.

Same for me (CPU 0 on, CPU1 off, most times) and I'll say I have noticed no real changes in functionality (speed, rendering, etc) or battery life...
I guess jury is still out or is this a YMMV kind of thing?
I installed system runner and watched the cpus. One was on and the other kicked in periodically
Mine said it was offline as well. Forced it on and am not noticing any difference in speed or temp.
Ill leave it like this to test it further.

As far as I know yes you must have super user permission to alter such system activities
I don't know why everyone is in such a rush to force the second core online, it turns on and off when it needs to.

Normal is as normal does, it all depends on what your doing. If your not using cpu intensive tasks then yes I would expect the screen to consume the lions share of the battery.

Use to use SetCPU and had good luck with it don't know if it is still maintained, of course used it to overclock not underclock but it can do that too.

Oh the days of overclocking! Processors are fast enough these days. No sense heating up the phone, killing the battery, & no need for the extra speed like in the days of the OG Droid. No need to slow it down though either, but I guess it would be nice to have extra battery life & a colder phone.
Haven't used SetCPU in a long time. I know it didn't work with my Droid2 & I had to switch to a different app. Always wanted to play with the one in ROM Toolbox guess it is time to start. Hell I paid for the app let's do it right?

Overheating phone almost burns my skin !!!

Hi guys, I need some help,
I have been using Xperia Z2 for the past 8 months and during this time the phone performed well but recent times its starting to give me a lot of problems; The screen had a problem and got it fixed and now I have a huge problem. The phone overheats like crazy when used more than say 10mins straight. It could be a call, messenger, video or camera, I know it has overheating issues with 4K but i never use the 4K feature to record movies. I'm on the latest firmware and lollipop update came via OTA, I can't tell if this is the exact reason but the phone gets so hot that it almost burns my skin !
I have reset the phone and wiped and re-installed everything and this had no effect. I have no warranty as I have paid fully for the phone and left the contract. I don't do gaming or anything processor intensive and yet the phone heats up really bad.
Any solutions apart from taking it to fix somewhere cause I live in Norway and I can buy a new phone for the price of someone looking at the problem cause its that expensive here
What if I have to install a clean stock rom? Any recommendations?
Thanks.

Unlock bootloader, flash custom kernel with the alternative to chooice an aggressive hotplug driver / battery friendly CPU governor and flash a custom ROM.
Solved!
Try downloading watchdog lite and see what is using most cpu.If you find nothing try flashing latest ftf using flashtool, root and debloat.4g/lte could also heat up the phone very fast.

I am using kitkat and the phone doesnt really overheat, without any underclocks or anything, unless I play something that is really demanding, such as asphalt 8

By saying the screen got fixed, does that mean the phone's internals were opened? If that is the case than we might have to look for a pysical reason more than a software one.
Besides, in many countries those devices have 1 year warranty, of which is decided and forced by goverments. Since it is your 8th month, you may still have warranty and take your phone to a service (they may blame summer thoguh).

Tweaks/Apps/Mods for PERFORMANCE

Heyy everyone,
I am looking for tweaks/apps/mods etc which can increase the performance of our Mido. Sd625 seems to me like a little downside on raw power. It's fine in day to day tasks, but games like Asphalt Xtreme tend to lag.
Also if you can suggest something for battery saving.
Or maybe some better alternative to below mentioned stuffs.
Here are the things I have currently been using..
~AOSPex
~Faust Kernel, with Gaming mode while in games.
~Greenify
~Servicely, to disable unwanted services, mostly Google play services.
~SD Maid, to freeze unwanted apps and clean up regularly.
~LSpeed, for all sort of tweaks.
~Trimmer, for file system trim.
~Speed up Swap, for adjusting swappiness.
Anything apart from this you guys know of?
I would be pleased to know.
Wrong place to ask.

If you're using MIUI then go to Dev options, set memory optimization to low. Free RAM is waste, I don't care about battery life which the RAM takes. App launch times matter for me.

Okay, use some app like Kernel Adiutor (not a typo), you can tweak a whole lot of things there, cpu governor for instance.
Also, I've experienced using Greenify benefits in performance gains in short term only, long term usage of Greenify may degrade performance. Repeating, this is my experience and I claim nothing about it.
For performance things, I don't really tweak my phone much, after trying nearly everything (except custom kernel) it seems like keeping phone to normal probably gives better results on long term. Just use that (1st line) tool to tweak small things. Also, just to tell ya, I don't play games.
Tell something about which ROM you're using. Also, are you experiencing lags over there?
