I'm a bit into customizing my home screens to make it look like the ones on mycolorscreen.com and in those UCCW threads.
But there is one thing thats bugging me, and that is the use of app icons on the home screen. I dont like it, its too messy and too iOS'ish.
Some are replacing the app icons with other custom icons, or removes them completely, but i rarely see what i've been trying to do; to make custom icons that open a meny of apps (in one genre..)
Like one icon for music apps, and one for travel apps etc.
I have tried to fix this using tasker widgets, like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and when i click on the music icon, wich is a tasker widget, it opens a tasker scene with a meny of 4 music apps:
This works pretty good, but i would like the tasker widget icons to be just icons, no subtext under the icon. There is no way in tasker to do this i think, i've tried to make a task with no name but it is simply not allowed.
I've also tried to make a uccw widget, but hotspots in uccw can open apps and shortcut, not a meny of apps..
So the reason why i'm posting this is to find anyone who like my idea, and would make an app that can make widgets that open a meny of apps with custom icons (with the option to remove subtext)
Or does anyone know of a way to do this? with another launcer perhaps? (im using ADW EX)
i know that i can make the launcher remove text under icons, but this doen not apply to my tasker widgets.
seriously just create folders with your other apps inside each folder.

I saw a couple of screenshots with text used instead of the icons and/or folders. If its an app what is it? I have the minimalistic text.

Post up the screen shot you are referring to, I'm not sure what you are looking at.
If you are reffering to icons that say "phone" instead of a picture of a phone it's just a simple png file. ADW and LauncherPro(i think) allow for icon changes. Widget Locker also allows custom icons. The files are all over the net, look in the Android section of xda, they have a huge Icon thread.
Danny has a theme that uses text for the main screen instead if Icons, looks pretty nice, after unzipping the file you can use what you need if you don't want the entire thing.

I think this is what you're looking for: http://www.mediafire.com/?bi6xcug62hktann. I didn't make these, just found them using a google search.
As was mentioned, you need a launcher that allows you to change the icon image. For example, long press on a dock icon in launcher pro and select "change icon," then you can select any icon you've put on your sd card.
Hope that helps.
You can try the texticons app in the market. Seems to work with most roms and launchers.
If you still need some, I have about 160.
Edit, here they are. From XDA, can't recall who to credit.

Hi Everyone,
I've seen a really nice widget floating around that was designed using Tasker for notification on your lock screen, in tandem with widget locker. It's simple text based widget with 3 rows, one for each notification. I was wondering if anyone has come across a similar themed widget designed outside of Tasker? I don't have a lot of use for Tasker and am hesitant to spend 6.99 on it, for one use. It looks like what you can see on the homescreen in the following image.
Thanks!

you can use go launcher ex with go launcher ex notification to get sms/gmail/missed called count.
I am actually quite suprised there is no widget for this.
I know, right?! It seems like such a basic widget?

Does Gmail App provide an API so other apps know that you have new unread email?
If you only want to see your last call, missed call, unread text message, etc, give “Last Call Widget” (on Market) a try.
Get SMS Unread Count from market. Widgets for sms, email, and calls. Can use custom icons also.

The screenshot provided looks a little like "missed it" from the Android Market isn't it??
I'm using launcher pro and I love it however I feel like my icons and date/time Widgets are to small. Is there a way to have bigger icons and Widgets?

You should be able to resize some if the widgets at least, tap and hold on them and a resize box should appear. For the icons maybe an app such as Bettercut would help, you can use custom icons with it, although you'll need to find a set that you're happy with.

Desktop visualizer will let you create widgets of many sizes (which themselves can be resized by Launcher Pro) with icons or images to launch any application.
the problem i see with widget resizing is that it only changes the amount of space it takes up on the screen without actually scaling up the size of the words. also i will look into bettercut and see what its about thanks.

If you use Desktop Visualizer to create widgets with images (not app icons), the images will fill the size of the DW widget.

I need help finding this widget. It has the top weather, location, alarm on it. I flashed ICS on my note and it didn't save in Titanium backup. If someone knows what widget is at the top could you post the name of it please. thanks
Looks pretty sweet! I wouldn't mind using it as well.
I cant find it exactly, but I can say with a tweak of the font, and some super customization I was able to get everything on that widget with Minimalistic text excluding the next alarm and the exact font.
All the () and / would need to be inserted as static text when setting it up but it is feasible if Minimalistic text somehow supports alarms that i cant see.
Ultimate Custom Clock Widget
thanks.

It's not Minimalistic text. I've tried recreating it.

The original Honor weather/clock widget doesn't work with another launcher like Nova Launcher or Google Now Launcher.
Is there a way to fix this?

Nope. This widgets are only for EMUI launcher.
So it's absolutely impossible to get this on Nova Launcher? Because the blue weather widget from the 'Home screen style - Simple' works fine (but I don't like this design).
I have updated to B330 and the widget is a bit changed. Now I got the line in the middle + date.
Is there a way to customize something to give permission for the location and temperature?
Ok, finally I found an acceptable solution
It's a look-a-like widget and not 100% the same, but close enough to the original. You'll need XWidget from the Play Store and then select 'Huawei CW Widget' in the app.
On my homescreen I have linked it to the official Honor Clock app when I tap the widget.
I made a small video to show how it works. You can create hotspots and link it to an app or something. I made a hotspot for the time to open the Clock app and for the weather I use the XWidget AccuWeather settings.

I hope this helps. I'm also trying Nova and can't use Huawei weather app, so after installing many apps from Google Play (annoying ads, or with extra useless info, or pricey), I decided to try other brands' stock weather apps from APK Mirror: Samsung failed, Xiaomi failed, Oppo failed, but Azus stock weather app worked like a charm. Precise and concise weather info, without ads, with a nice widget (Nova compatible, of course), etc.. Give it a try.
Perhaps, the only drawback is that there are only two 4x2 widgets... But something is something.
