[APP] Simply Tapp Wallet - HTC Droid DNA

Looks like the guys at Simply Tapp have finally updated their app in the play store. We may finally have an NFC wallet replacement for all of us who have wanted Google Wallet!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tapp
Sadly though it still require's CM9 and above to use. I was hoping it would function on the Google Experience Rom's. I'll try and email them and find out more.
Report back here with your experiences with this!

I'm running PAC and it doesn't work. I guessed it would since PAC has a cm base but I guess not...
CM10.1 Droid DNA

After some hiccups and rough edges the app appears to work, but I have no valid cards for it to test out fully. I'm using PAC ROM 6/11/13 build.
The only options are prepaid Tapp cards which they say they are out of; McDonalds, WholeFoods, and Tim Horton's gift cards; or apparently you can swipe your own card (of some sort) if you have a magnetic reader for your phone, which they also say they can ship you one for who knows how much.
Looking at the $5 WholeFoods card, it's a bit upsetting seeing a $1.47 "processing fee" just to buy it. Until they support real debit or credit cards this system won't get very far.

Not to mention zero support for most Roms. Such a shame to see this. Its obviously some "cash cow" probably young entrepreneurs. Yet through all of this Google still doesn't charge a dime for their services. I'm officially giving up on NFC for the DNA. Between the lack of support and this ridiculous secure element crap its just become a headache that isn't worth it.

I wouldn't say that they have officially launched the app. Just updated it recently. The two guys that formed this company are from the Cyanogenmod team, hence why it only works with CM9 and above. The reason being is the SmartMX headers are enabled when they compile CM. Other Roms like sense do not have it enabled.

[Q] NFC solutions

I'm not sure how slow or fast this technology will roll out, here in the States. Heck it could be 2014 before we actually get some common use out of it or it could be as early as 2012.
(Read up on NFC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_field_communication)
(Watch NFC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49L7z3rxz4Q)
But in the meantime I was considering the soon to come NFC capable, micro SD Cards & using that in my EVO 3D & maybe the phone after .vs getting a phone I don't want (that has NFC) or an NFC sticker that has poor software interation.
I might never use it (much like my OG EVO's HDMI out cord) but I'm no stranger to being prepared.
One good thing about the EVO 3D is the card's location for this type of card, as I'm guessing its range will not be as good as a dedicated & integrated NFC solution but its location is set on the outermost region in the EVO 3D & not deeply slotted within the phone, which should help. Again, its just guesses as I haven't even seen or heard about this card actually being tested or what it uses for range, only that its in development.
Thoughts? Plans? Scoffs? Meh?
I have mixed feelings about this NFC technology. On one hand it is about as close to a voluntary national ID card type system that I can think of aside from credit/debit cards... and we already have and use those, so, this just eliminates that one last thing to carry. But either way the more use of this type of tech is taken up by the general public the less common cash will be...I'd imagine cash would probably be accepted as legal tender always...but then again, throw around the word terrorist a couple times in congress and where there is a will there is a way. Now any 'non-government-sanctioned' transactions will have a very clear and accessible trail....
....now, I'll take my tinfoil hat off and say it is cool. I do dig technology...but aside from cashless payment systems I don't see much valid use of this technology. Somebody please tell me what I'm missing? It doesn't seem too terribly cool, but, once again perhaps I am missing something.
It also sounds ripe for abuse and fraud. Sure, they can use mega-secure encryption and there will be a clear trail, but, if it was designed by man there is (usually) a back door, intentional or otherwise.
Someone please tell me what is so exciting that I am missing, surely there must be something?

You got the main idea down (honestly what you posted will be some of the most commonly used functions of it) but it also goes a tad further,
Quoting the Wiki link here of just the few things NFC can do:
Social networkingNFC simplifies and expands Social networking options:
File Sharing: Tap one NFC device to another to instantly share a contact, photo, song, application, video, or website link.[6]
Electronic business card: Tap one NFC device to another to instantly share electronic business cards or resumes.[7][8]
Electronic money: To pay a friend, you could tap the devices and enter the amount of the payment.
Mobile gaming: Tap one NFC device to another to enter a multiplayer game.[6][9]
Friend-to-friend: You could touch NFC devices together to Facebook friend each other or share a resume or to "check-in" at a location.[10]
[edit] Bluetooth and WiFi ConnectionsNFC can be used to initiate higher speed wireless connections for expanded content sharing.[11]
Bluetooth: Instant Bluetooth Pairing can save searching, waiting, and entering codes. Touch the NFC devices together for instant pairing.[6][11]
WiFi: Instant WiFi Configuration can configure a device to a WiFi network automatically. Tap an NFC device to an NFC enabled router.[11]
[edit] eCommerceNFC expands eCommerce opportunities, increases transaction speed and accuracy, while reducing staffing requirements. A Personal identification number (PIN) is requried for payments.[7]
Mobile payment: An NFC device may make a payment like a credit card by touching a payment terminal at checkout or a vending machine when a PIN is entered.[7][6][12]
PayPal: PayPal may start a commercial NFC service in the second half of 2011.[13][14]
Google Wallet is an Android app that stores virtual versions of your credit cards for use at checkout when a PIN is used.[12]
Ticketing: Tap an NFC device to purchase rail, metro, airline, movie, concert, or event tickets. A PIN is required.[7][15][16]
Boarding pass: A NFC device may act as a boarding pass, reducing check-in delays and staffing requirements.[7]
Point of Sale: Tap an SmartPoster tag to see information, listen to an audio clip, watch a video, or see a movie trailer.[10][11]
Coupons: Tapping an NFC tag on a retail display or SmartPoster may give the user a coupon for the product.[10][11]
Tour guide: Tap a passive NFC tag for information or an audio or video presentation at a museum, monument, or retail display (much like a QR Code).[6][10]
[edit] Identity documentsNFC's short range helps keep encrypted identity documents private.[11]
ID card: An NFC enabled device can also act as an encrypted student, employee, or personal ID card or medical ID card.[11]
Keycard: A NFC enabled device may serve as car, house, and office keys.[11]
Rental Car and hotel keys: NFC rental car or hotel room keys may allow fast VIP check-in and reduce staffing requirements.[6][17]

Okay, all of those are extensions on the basic idea of what I thought it was...though much more clever and compelling I must say.
Okay...I'm on board. A lot of those uses seem like even going through the motion of 'tapping' would be a pain in the ass to do...but then I realized you would (like social networking sites) probably just set automatic (manually override-able) 'privacy defaults', 'proximity defaults' and 'dwell defaults' for checking in places, proximity auto-friending, game joining, contact transferal, etc.
Very interesting...also very scary, but, old fashioned 'privacy' might just be a thing of the past--though I would only sign up for a society like that if there was an equivalent amount of transparency in the operating of such a society, but, wiki-leaks and this administrations empty promises have already shown that to be nearly impossible to achieve through anything but empty lip service.
But I digress, aside from my idealism and cynicism being (once again) my stickiest of wickets, I think this has the potential to be really freakin' cool.

Did you even read any of the, what 4 (FOUR!??) other posts? One of them tells you everything you need to know to have your "way out of date" phone perform this simple function that is very likely buried in the phone somewhere, waiting for an update to open up...
...I doubt it costs all of $1 to enable this technology. It's like bluetooth but nowhere near as powerful....bluetooth chips are so cheap to make that they are thrown in on wifi stacks for free...ask any of us nook owners
Yeah It's an add on hence why I said what I said. Also that's SD nfc card Isn't available yet... Nor do we have pricing or a date for availability so what's your point? I never said It's "way out of date" no need to be so defensive.

No. I haven't heard of any upcoming Android phones (aside from Samsung & Nexus related devices) that will have it, just that they will add it in the future.

LOL, I'm guessing the "mark of the beast" will be NFC. I don't plan on sticking around for that.
I can't tell if you guys are being serious... NFC is the future, whether it's utilized well or not it'll still be a huge deal a couple years down the line. Google's only getting started with their implementation.
Cousin has a NS4G, has an NFC tag on his door to turn on WiFi, open up his remote notifier app, and turn his volume all the way down.
You may be thinking "Big deal Tasker could do it." but imagine anyone being able to do that from just a swipe, no configuring or anything. Just swipe your phone and you're automatically on a locked network.
I'm especially excited to see what smart companies can do with NFC for marketing.

You're right, it just depends on the speed of how its deployed & spread.
I'm hoping it spreads like wildfire & setups (much like your cousin's) become a common deal.
Serious, yes. The thread is just to touch people's stance (not everyone may like it was we do) on current plans & feelings for NFC, I plan to make a move the month the SD card solution becomes available.

Is it dangerous to enter your credit card # to buy stuff when using CM7 or XRON?

Is it dangerous to enter your credit card # to buy stuff when using CM7 or XRON?(or any other Android for Touchpad)
While I appreciate those guys for making it possible to install Android on Touchpad, I do not have any idea who they really are. How will I know there isn't some built-in code that secretly captures my credit card numbers and/or everything that I type and then uploads it to a server somewhere in one of those rogue nations?
Thanks!
With all due respect, if you're that concerned about the code then I suggest you uninstall CM7 and stick with webOS. Or develop your own version of Android on your Touchpad.
From this post, it really doesn't seem like there will be anything anyone here can say that will remove the paranoia you have.
Lmao.
"A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men."
I use mine on cm7, and so far no unauthorized charges on it, so I think its safe to say they are legit.

Nothing to worry about bro. I do this for the good of the community and have been working on many different roms for different devices. You have a better chance of living to 200 before any personal information is logged by us. Meaning, its impossible.
With that said, happy New year everyone.
Not sure my family would like it if I was sent to prison for credit card fraud or any other malicious activity.

+1 Leo for taking the high road. I could see how the OP's question would insinuate malicious behavior from xron or CM7 and stir false rumors. I like the fact you showed a degree of patience that I'm not sure I would have been able to show were I in your shoes.
If you don't trust these guys stick to webOS.
If you don't trust them use WebOS. But personally I'd trust the CM team over the carrier/OEM bloated Android ROMs included on most phones. Remember the whole CarrierIQ issue about a month ago? With CM you don't have to worry about that. They have an article on it:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-will-never-have-carrier-iq
The CM7 team took my baby and sold her on the black market for organs. This was in addition to violently beating me and stealing my car.
Nothing but a group of thugs...you have been warned!
There is no more risk by using a credit card on this tablet than there is entering a credit card from any computer.

NFC card emulation

Not sure how many of you know about this, but there is an app in the play store named nfc classic that lets your phone emulate cards. I know that our phones don't support google wallet so I thought I'd give it a try. I tried to use it with my local public transportation card (marta) which is nfc enabled, and although it read the card, the Marta system didn't recognize the data on my phone as a valid card (probably because of encryption issues). I was thinking it's gotta work for somebody (some comments for the app in the store claimed that it works), so I thought I'd share.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...lassic&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
thanks hope it works for me
Sounds neat. I'd love to be able to leave more of my cards at home.
Is there any kind of security? Like I have to enter a pattern or number when a device swipes with my phone?
This most likely will not work unless whatever card you are using uses absolutely no type of security.

gTablet gMarket no longer works

I just spoke with Viewsonic's third party company for tech support for the gTablet. I noticed the gMarket icon gave me an error. I had not used the tablet in some time.
He informed me that Handango is now supporting Android 2.3 where the gTab is 2.2. The apps will not work.
I guess now I have a large paperweight. What a waste of money.
If you're planning on throwing it out, I would be happy to take it off your hands.
Fact is, any alternative ROM can work wonders on this device. I have never used the stock ROM since it's just so bad.

Man, serious "coknbalz" here as they say in my country. I would ask Handango, since they've been jerking us around so rigorously while smiling all the way, if they'd be willing to handle our upgrades gently and gingerly as we told them what we yearned for. And then here at XDA we have 4.0 and 4.1 ROMs circulating? They should be taking it all over their face with glee and happily rubbing in all the extra white-sheet revenue with both their hands as we come down from the exhilaration of newfound support!
I can't imagine an app market wanting to be used so much and so often in this way as Handango tells other device makers they would. They of all app markets seem ready to spread far and wide, caressing the bleeding edge to fever pitch when the time is right for a loud and forthright announcement, for just about any device out there. Why won't they put out for the G-Tablet since they will for just about anything else? Is it something we as a community did?

Along these same lines, my GTab running TNT Lite 4.25 still shows the Market, although not all apps any more, and it won't update what I have.
Can I get it to run the new Play Store (or whatever Google calls it)?

Will Verizon "ever" carry a 32GB S4 model? Update: Yes, finally.

The only near official info from Verizon so far appears to be to CNET, which basically said, "We (VZW) have no current information on a 32GB model". That of course is not a confirmation that they will or will not, but considering AT&T has a 32GB and even tweeted the week of their launch they would- Seems anecdotally bad for a VZW 32GB.
Seems if we do not keep this issue "alive" in some manner and VZW has no current plans, they probably never will.
Get an SD card. That's what they're for.

Based on the device you have only has 11gb out of box and no sd, seems you might not use a bunch of apps. Especially not the newer 3d games that take 2gb of storage.
Apps can not go on the sd card, so not an applicable option for some people. What MOS are you? I was an 0331.
I was tempted to wait for the 32 but was scared that by the time it got released (if ever) Verizon would have patched the boot loader exploit. Not worth the gamble for me.

You can not install or move data with the S4, nor any Jellybean OS device. Android got rid of the option. Some devs offer the ability to install data to the card, but most do not due to customer complaints when the app messes up (swapping cards is example how apps mess up and users do not make the connection why). No conjecture on my part, but one of several actual Android team reasons why the feature was removed. The main reason was they hated the feature to begin with.
You can root, but the results with virtual mounting apps have been mixed, depending on the apps.

Ah, today I learned. I never realized they actually removed this feature because I didn't actually use it.
Understandable considering your device Even Samsung was saying that and they should know better.
I think that that's the problem of everyone. Most of those upgrading to S4 are coming from S2. They are saying: "F**k, I'm buying the 16gb because that's enough space and I can move the apps to the sdcard". Most of S2 users are still running on 4.0
I think in a few months there will be more than expected complaints and customers will point out that Samsung and Verizon CSR/Sales misled that you can put apps on sd.
It makes no sense not to offer larger models for this device. If you will not use the storage buy the 16, and buy the 32 if you will. Verizon are being arrogant a$$e$ for at least not giving a public answer. Verizon have not responded to customer or media inquiries beyond a generic, "We have no current information". This same lame answer is from their Sales & Marketing department. The very people that WOULD know.
I guess a, "We are not going to carry it, because we are milking customers at the same price point for a two year as the 32 model last year" is too honest.

good luck to you guys hoping for the 32gb version. my 16gb came with 9.8gb of device storage available. i've got about 70 of the downloaded apps i normally use installed and still have 7.7gb of internal memory free. admittedly i don't use my s4 for gaming, that's what the n7 is for. i do, however, have over 30gb of media and docs loaded up to my 64gb sd card. hopefully they come out with higher capacity sd cards since that's where i'll see the crunch sooner. either way very nice device, the s4 is. and i'm already rooted!

There are no current plans for a 32gb model from Verizon. That being said, if they do release a 32gb version it will be months from now as to make sure they get sales for the 16gb now. This is common practice for years. Same goes for different colors and such.
Officially no plans to release a 32gb version. Doesn't mean there won;t be one down the road.
