Havent messed with my rezound in a while a few root questions - HTC Rezound

So I just came back to my redound and after realizing I manged to spill stuff on it while storing it in my drawer i finally got it booting and now have a question about root and recovery. So I'm trying to flash custom roms and recovery to but I noticed it says I'm s-off and I remember going s-off but whats odd is I remember being rooted to do it however now i have no root or custom recovery and I'm just curious what steps to take to return to root and custom recovery. Thanks in advance.

Custom Recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902381&highlight=recovery
1) Go to this thread, download the attachment named TWRP_2.6.0.0_Vigor_PH98IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD Card and delete the part of the name before the PH98IMG.
2) Boot into the bootloader
2a) Power Off your phone
2b) Remove and reinsert battery
2c) Hold Vol Down and Power until bootloader shows
3) Follow instructions on bootloader screen and press Vol Up (i think) when it tells you to.
Root
If you are installing a custom rom, root will generally be taken care of for you.
If you have questions feel free to ask.

[q] rom manager clockword recovery

so I rooted my TB using super one click root. I restarted my phone and saw the superuser app in my drawer so to make sure I was rooted I downloaded titanium back and see if it gave me root access and I was able to gain root access to the app. So my next thing was to get Rom manager I downloaded that it asked for my root access I press allowed and I was able to use the app, I click flash clockword recovery and it successfully installed, so now I was going to download a Rom to my phone well i had a rom already. On my SD card so from Rom manager it says install Rom from SD card I click that found the Rom on my SD card checked off the wipe and back up and ok. Phone turns off and boot up on hboot on bootloader, so it didn't work I tried to go back in Rom manager click reboot in recovery and the phone shuts off and boot back into hboot bootloader. Now keep in mind I am rooted but I can't access the recovery I keep getting sent to hboot,
Can you get to CWR manually from the hboot menu? If not (and you have the latest RomManager and recovery), your recovery didn't flash. Erase and reflash it.
I was not aware that super one click worked on the tbolt. and even if it did you cant flash a custom rom with s-on. If i were you i would download root checker from the market , it will tell you if you are rooted correctly which i dought you are....
I don't think super1click does work on the tbolt. I just assumed he meant one of the other one-clicks like Easyroot or something. I didn't pay much attention to it because he claims he has SU and TiBu works.
Should be one of these:
RomManager needs updating.
Recovery needs reflashing/updating.
Hey guys thx for the replies well your right in the bootloaded or Hboot mode it does say S-on, and for some reason Super one Click work, cuz i tried to use the TB auto root click but it went half through the process as it was pushing the files, and it got stuck for like 20 mins didnt do anything, so i unhooked it and closed eveyrthing out and then tried the super one click and it did its process and a window pop up saying device rooted. so i restarted the phone and saw the superuser and to make sure i was rooted, i tried the Titanium back up, and was able to back up my apps, and then i got the wireless tether app and tried to used that and that work showing i had superuser permission. but the rom manager isnt working im able to open the app look at the rom it has on rom manager but when i go to flash rom from sd card it reboots in Hboot, with the S-on. i tried to go to recovery i press recovery and it boot back up in Hboot, so is there any suggestion should i unroot and use another method to root so that i can be able to get into clockword recovery.
You can't flash clockwork recovery with s-on.
Go here for s-off
http://revolutionary.io
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
So is it ok to do that revolutionary process with my TB in the condition its in (Root with S-on) or should i flash the MR2 file to restore it back to it factory state and then do the revolutionary process
I would say you are good to go ahead. Just jump right in. You are basically stock except that you can use root access apps.

Once you get S-Off, the whole point of rooting opens up to you. Great ROMs and no carrier bloat.

Is there a video to root this phone?

I have had been able to unlock and root my previous HTC phones. HD 1&2 Kaiser.. none as complicated as this one. What happened to using DAFT or NAND?

Not sure how this is so complicated.
You download a file (recovery) and place it on the root of your external sdcard.
Boot to hboot holding volume down and pressing power.
Update the recovery.
Boot to recovery.
Install your custom rom from your custom recovery.
OK I have placed file in root of extsdcard. When I go to update recovery there is a icon with a green symbol the another icon of the phone with a red triangle and exclamation appear nothing else.
Have unlocked through Tmobile code and have S-off phone doesn't seem to respond to any of the instructions posted ?
Unlocked? Like unlocked for other carriers? Are you sure you have S-Off? Just make sure you copy over the recovery file onto Removable Disk and not HTC Storage. Once you boot into bootloader it should auto install and ask for your go.

1. Download recovery v5.0.2.0 for the Amaze 4g Here: Download ClockworkMOD 5.0.2.0 Make sure its named PH85IMG.zip Nothing else or it wont work
2. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card External SDCARD)
3. Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen (see post above on how to get to hboot screen)
4. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
5. Press Power Off to Reboot back to android after installation is successful (normal screen with homescreen)
6. Delete PG58IMG from your memory card and you can now root using step 3 below or install a custom ROM using CWM (Customs Roms are already rooted)

Then you may have to follow step 3.

I'm not an expert, but this should get you going. If you can't get it, you might just want to back down.

I seriously doubt that you have S-OFF because only very few of us do.
IF by chance you do then you don't need to unlock the bootloader.
And unlocking the bootloader is done through htcdev NOT T-Mobile.
This process is very simple. But since you don't even know if you have S-ON or S-OFF, hboot locked or unlocked then we need to start from the very beginning.
Download a data backup app like MyBackup from Market. This is to backup your current data. If you don't then you WILL lose it if you currently have S-ON.
Remove your battery to make sure it's completely powered off.
Place it back in.
Hold down the volume down rocker on the right side of your phone.
While holding press the power button until you see a white screen.
At the top I'm 99% sure it will say S-ON. If it does then you need to unlock the bootloader before doing anything else. Once you do you're okay to update the recovery. Once you flash the Unlock_code.bin file from htc then it will take you to a black screen. Use the volume up and volume down to chose from one of two options. Basically do nothing or unlock and void your warranty. Go ahead and unlock your device. This is required if you really want root since we don't have a way to get S-OFF.
You're phone will reboot and your data will be gone. Don't even bother restoring yet.
Download a custom rom (either one of the basic stock roms, BeastMod or QuikSense). Place the .zip file on the root of your external sdcard.
Also download the PH85IMG.zip file and place it on the root of your external sdcard as well.
Power off your phone.
Boot into bootloader again like earlier. Volume down and power.
Now it will say Unlocked at the top. If it does then your good to proceed.
It should also scan your sdcard and ask you if you want to update. Go ahead.
It will flash the new custom recovery.
Now all you need to do is flash your new custom rooted rom from recovery and your all set.
Restore your backups.
Come back here and hit the Thanks button below.
Thanks for the help guys will try again tonight.

[Q] phone stuck on HTC screen

im new to this whole rooting thing so please help a noob out.
So i unlocked the bootloader but unfortunately i tried to flash a rom while S-On; So now im stuck on the HTC screen. I tried to do the PH85IMG.zip thing but it doesnt seem to do anything. I would really appreciate any help guys (it sucks using a flip phone for over a week.)
the amaze is the tmobile version
I'm no pro but I have rooted and done all things root to 3 amazes. So you unlocked the bootloader. Did you flash a custom recovery? After that you should have perma rooted the phone by flashing the su.zip thingy. After that you should have preformed a backup. Then flashed the Rom. Take. The boot.IMG from the unpacked Rom placing it in the tools folder in androidsdk then flashing it in fastboot. This is how I do it. Always worked for me. In detail what did you do?
Edit. I also have s-on. Both on my girls amaze and my one s. I'm not sure if some roms require s off but I never had a problem flashing roms. Kernels are always easy using fastboot method.

the order of what you just described doing some how seems entirely wrong... let me make a few corrections to what you should do
if you haven't flashed a custom recovery place your phone into bootloader mode (by removing the battery then reinserting and holding vol down + power button)
then enter FASTboot (by using the power button in the bootloader)... use hasoon2000's toolkit found Here in the second post (don't forget to hit thanks to his post)
flash 4EXT recovery, once in 4EXT check to make sure smart flash is enabled
once in 4ext recovery do a wipe DATA/FACTORY, followed by formatting SYSTEM then wipeing CACHE then DALVIK CACHE
after doing that proceed to trying to flash your rom again, if it fails download another ROM and use the MOUNT USB feature in 4EXT to mount your phone to the pc while in recovery and place another rom on your SD card to try and flash
overall the steps to flashing a rom on a "NEW" phone is Unlock Bootloader > Flash Custom Recovery > Flash SU for ROOT > BACKUP!! > Full WIPE > Flash ROM > BACKUP! if you require more info feel free to make another post
hope this helps

Which RUU did you use? Personally, I'd suggest using THIS RUU.
Before using this RUU, make sure your battery is FULLY charged, and then make sure you have re-locked your bootloader. After that, rename the RUU to PH85IMG (usually the .zip part is already appended to the end, so if you add the .zip part, it'd actually be PH85IMG.zip.zip, which won't work)
Then add it to the root of your SDCard, boot into bootloader by taking out your phone's battery, putting it back in, then holding volume down button and power button. Keep holding those 2 buttons until the bootloader screen comes up. It will auto-detect the RUU and go from there.
After all's said and done, unlock your bootloader again, install a custom recovery - I recommend the 4EXT recovery - and then flash your ROM of choice.
Best of luck!

Stock rooted RUU

Cannot install custom ROM through adb fastboot.
Cannot root since display doesnt show hboot or recovery.
Can I not flash a stock RUU that is rooted via adb then have root?
Point me to that RUU? Ive looked everywhere.
I am so frustrated I will pay for this help. from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app

If you want stock, find your stock ROM in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617644
Rename it to PH85IMG.zip and put it onto your external SD card. Boot into HBoot and it should automatically install the stock ROM. To root your stock ROM, use Hasoon's toolkit. It is literally fool proof.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905
If you want a custom ROM, you'll need to install a custom recovery. Again, use Hasoon's toolkit and follow the instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905
After installing a custom recovery, download and put the custom ROM onto your external SD card. Boot into recovery, go to "install from SD card" and select your ROM that you want to flash.
PS. If you're having problems with your phone, you need to post in the Q&A forum. This is a development forum.
]I cannot see HBOOT or Recovery.
My display is not working correctly for some reason. I have flashed the stock RUU and unlocked the bootloader via the toolkit.
Now I am stuck because I cannot see the recovery screen to actually install the superuser.zip that the toolkit put onto my sdcard.
Do you see what I am saying here?
If I could simply see my HBOOT and recovery screens I would have this phone rooted in 1 minute. I am looking for a way to root manually via adv or another method because I cannot see the recovery screen to know what buttons to click.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
What he needs is someone to tell him how many clicks of the volume button gets him to the correct selection
His screen is off when we would normally see the hboot or recovery screens...
I will help... But.. I can't post pics or screen shots... Can someone past these for him or get them up in the correct threads.
This guy will then see the available selections on his computer screen...
Sig:
If I wanted a comeback outta you... I'd scrape the roof of your mouth...
If you want mine,. it'll land between your shoulder blades soon enough.

hboot screen looks like this...
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
power down
when you restart to bootloader it begins with bootloader already selected...volume down 1 time selects reboot...1 more time selects reboot bootloader...etc etc
push power button to activate selection.
i also use android ultimate toolbox to some basic adb commands with a UI from my windows 7 pc.
it also checks root flashed update.zips etc...check it out...it may help a bit as you can do some things quicker and more precisely with the UI than any command line...just remember some options are only for samsung (but they are marked with **)
i wouldnt reccomend it over hasoons toolkit but it does have built in file browser etc and i hate switching back and forth when im doing menial tasks in fastboot etc

I got as far as the last step in the htcdev where it says to press yes on ur phone I pressed the power button like it said but nothing happen so I held it and my phone rebooted. Now I tried to push the firewater on cmd and it's saying the device can't be found. Any suggestions? Also when I go into bootloader it says unlocked on top. But when I click reboot to recovery my phone comes to a blank screen with a red phone icon. Am I doing the steps right or did I leave something out? Been trying to figure it out since 6 this morning.

You need to set your device into USB debug mode in Setting > developer option > enable usb debug mode
Red phone icon means u didn't flash custom recovery yet. You must flash custom recovery in order to install custom rom.
Take a look here for custom recovery @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498746

Ok thanks so much man. So after I get the custom recovery I flash a custom Rom or do I use firewater to s-off/root then install the custom Rom?

Root and S-off are two different things.
Firewater for s-off. S-off can be done before or after flash custom rom.
Every custom root mostly come with SuperSU(rooteed)
Be sure to do full backup your stock rom in recovery before flashing any rom.
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash custom recovery
3. Full backup
4. S-OFF with firewater
5. Flash custom Rom
