Rooted and camera not working - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Got the phone Wednesday. Ran into problem with the camera not working Friday, brought into Verizon they made me reset it ABD it worked so I rooted it and now it don't work again. What should I do? Unroot and go back to Verizon? Upgrade so I lose root is that the easiest way? Then return it?

[Q] Do I need to unroot my Thunderbolt to have it activated?

I just bought a Thunderbolt, and decided to root and try some ROMs out before deciding to make it my daily driver.
Now that I'm ready, I need to take it into Verizon to get a SIM card, and need to know if I need to unroot it, or if I can just flash a Sense ROM (doubt any Verizon employee would know the difference).
Thanks!

I had lots of problems when I tried activating while I was rooted. I had to unroot, lock the bootloader, and have a Verizon tech do a master reset on the phone to get it to activate.

Is there any way I can perform this master reset myself?
No. You have to be on the phone with the tech and do a factory reset at the same time. You should first try to go back to stock and activate it normally. You will need a new sim probably.

I took a rooted HTC TBolt that was loaned to me into the Verizon store a few weeks ago to have it activated. I did get a lecture about how the warranty was voided by rooting (it wasn't under warranty any longer anyway), but they activated it no problem.
I traded a Droid charge for my tbolt and called support and had it switched to my account. It was s-off and rooted and it worked just fine. I know its a little different than op but i think you will be okay.

Has anyone had trouble with the software update

Everytime I go to check for a software update it starts checking then goes off quickly without telling me if there was one or not. Any suggestions?

I was in the same boat as you. Check out this thread:

You can check the first and last post in that. The way I got around it was by activating my sim in another rezound and then swapping back into my original and it all of a sudden worked. Dont really know why, but i know another person got it working that way too.

Might be possible to go BACK to MDL!

So I went in to best buy today to have them flash my phone back to stock. I had talked with the guy the other night for a while and he was pretty open to helping me out no matter what. I left my phone with him while I looked around. When I came back he said that the sock firmware was flashed and that the updates were installing now. I asked what updates and he told me that since my phone came with MDL that is what was installed and that the updates had to be installed to bring it current. I asked him if he could have stopped the process before the updates and he said he could have if his boss wasnt there. He said that Verizon has a single package that won't allow this but that it's possible with att.
Just thought I would throw this out there in case it helps the effort somehow.

And after thinking about it this might be why AT&T hasn't released mf3. Image for kies

Did you have the ME7 firmware on the phone originally?
If you did have the ME7 firmware installed did Best Buy give any clues as to how they managed to install the MDL firmware?
The phone came with MDL and I was Loki'd. Then the update came overnight and I was then on MF3. I deleted some system apps and just wanted to get back to stock. The Samsung rep said that since my phone originally came with MDL that is what gets installed and then the updates are added.

Sorry to add an AT&T thread to verizon, it was by accident, but hopefully it might be helpful anyway.

[Q] If you have a rooted phone, can you use the One Up program for an upgrade?

I was just wondering will Sprint let you upgrade to a new device with the One Up Program (or with their standard upgrade program) if you have a rooted phone? I have an EVO 4G LTE rooted with CM 10.1 and my upgrade is a few months away. Did Sprint give anyone problems? Or do they not care?
Thanks
It is best that you unroot your phone, but it shouldn't hurt you. just hide the root app

My store (in Orange County, CA) is a pain in the butt with the phone being in a hacked state, if you can hide the Unlocked bootloader state, you will almost be certain to be good to go.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully sprint doesnt give me any problems.
The store here didn't care when I traded in my rooted and custom ROM Evo 3D
I've never seen em give a damn about root and custom ROMs, after having my screen replaced 3 times and speaker twice (last speaker got me a whole new bezel, but I remained S-off, so I know they didn't swap out. YMMV. If there's more than one store close, I'd just go do it with root, if they give you any guff, flash stock and hit the other one.

You can always just RUU the phone and use regaw leinads tool to set it back so the bootloader looks like it is s-off!
I've traded in rooted phones at my local corporate store and they never cared, even when I told them it was rooted.

Just came back from the Verizon store.
They are sending me a new s4 and i should get it by Tuesday.
What's the chance I'll get a mdk or a 4.4.2. And what's the chance I'll get a charge for sending them my rooted rommed out phone.

I think it will be impossible to get a phone that has mdk on it. They might charge you for being rooted and haveing a custom rom. Everyone knows that giving root access to apps allows them to break your usb port, Duh
