[Q] Helping a friend - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone
A friend with SGS SIII I9300 asked me if can help him to have a smooth device like my sgsa gt i9070.
The forum for the sIII is a lot bigger and more complex than the sgsa forum and I`m kinda lost so I dont know where to post my question as i didnt find a Q&A general thread.
I think that rooting, flashing a custom kernel and set a governer and a scheduler would do the trick as he is new to android.
Can someone point me some thread links in order to achieve my goal?
Thank you all in advance

For rooting the galaxy s3 you can follow the instructions provided in my website: http://goo.gl/RH2zWV
the procedure explained in above post works only for the International version of samsung galaxy s3..
For installing a custom rom, you can choose CyanogenMod 10.2(android 4.3)... To flash CyanogenMod Download the CyanogenMod rom from below link:
CyanogenMod 10.1.3 (Android 4.2) : http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/42508/cm-10.1.3-i9300.zip
CyanogenMod 10.2 (Android 4.3) : http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/43342/cm-10.2-20131001-NIGHTLY-i9300.zip
If you want to flash Android 4.2, download CyanogenMod 10.1.3 else if you want to flash Android 4.3 Download CM 10.2 from the link above.
You will also need to download the Gapps. Download it from the link below:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
After the download finishes follow the steps given below:
1. Place the CyanogenMod rom .zip and the gapps .zip file on the root of the SD card
2. Boot to recovery mode on the device by holding Home & Volume Up & Power.
3. Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the physical volume buttons to move up and down and home button to choose the option selected.
4. You can create a backup of the current installation on the device by selecting backup and restore option but this is optional, you can skip this step but it would be better to create a backup for if anything goes wrong.
5. Select the option to wipe data/factory reset.
6. Select install zip from sdcard.
7. Select choose zip from sdcard.
8. Select the CyanogenMod file you placed on the sdcard. You will then need to confirm that you do wish to flash this file. ( this step may take some time)
9. Again follow the steps 6 & 7 and after that select the Gapps file you placed on the sdcard. You will then need to confirm that you do wish to flash this file.
10. Once the installation has finished, return back to the main menu, and select the reboot system now option. The device should now boot into CyanogenMod.

The first thing you need to do in general, is to not post questions in development.
The second thing is to read the first page of the threads and use Google for stuff like "what is gapps".
Now concerning your question: Cyanogenmod roms don't include apps like gmail, Google music, etc. These apps are called gapps (google apps!!!). Flash the gapps.zip provided with the rom, if you want these apps (usually it is found on the first page of the Rom thread).

and

i dont have a cm9 or rom of ics what i need to do, to install the all file or only one ( 1 )
? .
As rickyq12 said do you know what cwm is? Do you have it? How about rooting? Are you even familiar with flashing roms? If not then start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15693193.
If you do know about cwm or if you have it then I believe you know how it works. Flash ics first, reboot and then boot into cwm again and flash gapps. If you find it really difficult then maybe it is best to leave it for now. Just do some reading in Google and come back here. These tabs are really hard to brick but you should at least understand the basics in order to avoid any trouble. Oh and official ics is around the corner...

Wrong section
Correct section= Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A
Here:
1) connect the USB cord to your tablet and computer.
2) Open ODIN on your computer
3) hold down power and Volume Up and until the tablet turns on. Select Download (use the volume keys).
3) Now, on your computer, open one of those files you mentioned with notepad. Add this line "234 init Q+A XDA" on the 4th or 5th line (doesn't really matter, add it anywhere except the beginning or end).
4) Flash that file to the tablet with ODIN. Wait a while; it will take a long time (up to 24 hours). When the screen flashes, immediately press the power button and hold it. That's when you'll see the magic happen!
Take a video of yourself doing this. If something goes wrong, post it here so we can help.

[4.1.2][CWM]Stock Samsung Rom[Deodexed][Root]

Hi All
Just finished compiling the Original Samsung 4.1.2 test firmware for CWM flashing
No changes has been made at all except Root that has been added and everything being DEODEXED
Its being uploaded atm to my Google Drive account so it should be easier to download and I will post the link as soon as its up and shared.
Please be aware of the following:
1. This is completely stock with the stock kernel that has the brick bug in it SO DON'T FORMAT EMMC AFTER YOU INSTALL IT
2. It will remove CMW and CMW needs to be installed again with Mobile odin or Odin pc.
Installation should be as per any other CWM rom:
1. Copy to SD card
2. Wipe data/factory
3. Install from the SD
4. Clear Dalvic and reboot
If you want to move away from this rom follow the following steps just to be save:
1. Use mobile odin or Odin pc to install CMW
2. Flash any other kernel like Siyah or similar
3. Do a EMMC format - ONLY AFTER STEP 2. Please dont forget to flash a non brickbug kernel 1st
4. Install other rom as desired
Download Link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998205
Thanks to LegendK for eventually finding the way
Additional Installs:
Philz Kernel removing Brick bug - Flash it through recovery mode
Philz Kernel removing Brick bug - Flash through Odin
Thanks PhilZ
Additional Notes:
After installing the Rom please install one of the "Additional Installs" kernels to remove the brick bug. Once done use Rom as usual
good job

Much obliged, I'm super keen to try this new version, only drama I'm a bit n00b-ish when it comes to creating a CWM-flashable ZIP from what we can grab from SamFirmwares and I'd prefer to be able to hack the apk's and Media folder before I throw it into my i9100. Looking forward to getting hold of what you've cooked up...
ADD: Oh yeh, from what I've heard, the Philz-CWM6 kernel is supposed to be the best for this F/W, check out his thread...

looks good!!!!
Hope you can repack it with the PhilZ kernel(no eMMC brick bug) if there is time! You would save a lot of n00bs breaking their device! Just my 2 cents!

Find the CM10 discussion thread in General (I'm not linking you to it because A) I don't have a link handy and B) You're perfectly capable of finding it yourself given it's more than likely on the first page), and follow the install instructions on the first page of that thread to the letter. If you're unable to follow those, I'd question the wisdom of you attempting to flash CM10 in the first place (the instructions couldn't be more simple).

No. In CM10.1 you need to press the top right button to bring up the toggles like in stock 4.2.1.
if you want old style CM toggles you will need to flash CM10.0, In that you can set which toggles you want on top row in settings.
If you want sammy style toggles you will need to flash a sammy based rom.
