So Who all's gonna jump on this new upgrade option titled "edge". I'm just curious what everyone thinks. I see both positives and negatives to both sides.
I'm going to with our next upgrade. It's expensive but I figure a new insured phone each year is worth it.

Nah....
I did it for the HTC One. Going to try it out. Paying 25bucks a month, I can either trade it in later or pay it off and keep it. To me, its no different than buying the phone outright and then selling it for half value.
Now if you have an upgrade available and can do the upgrade shuffle to keep unlimited, I would do that instead. But I'm being impatient.
Oh, and it let me keep unlimited.

I did the exact same thing. Enrolled in Edge, bought the HTC One, and kept unlimited. And I wasn't eligible for an upgrade on this line until November 2014.
Here is the link, I'm surprised it's not getting more attention:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2423121
I upgrade on average once a year, maybe twice depending on what Samsung puts out. I usually get phones about a month or so after they come out off swappa or craigslist for about half the price of new. I used an upgrade to get the S3, then upgraded to the Note 2 about 3 months later. I sold the S3 for 450 and got the Note for 375. When the S4 came out, people were trying to trade straight across for the note 2. I could have "upgraded" but chose to stick with the note. So I figure it would cost me less to continue doing my upgrades as I have then it would be to go with edge. Phone companies are never working for you, its always about making money. We will see how good edge really is.

I'm getting it right now to see if I like this phone instead of shelling out $200-300. If I don't like it, it goes back and the out of pocket is minimal. I'll probably get the Note 3.

No biggy. If you could keep unlimited it it wouldn't be such a bad deal. As is though you are painting Dame price for service and also paying basically for a phone hag you just turn back into verizon for no credit and then buy more. It's a win win for them here...

The only one that is truly a good deal is Tmobiles Jump program. It's 10 dollars and that includes full insurance. So basically you end up not paying much extra to upgrade every 6 months. Plus, you don't have to have your phone half paid for. The only downside... It's t-mobile service. Otherwise, you are paying a lot more with Verizon edge.

I have an evo lte running cm 10 and am very happy with it. I am also eligible for an upgrade and was wondering what should I do with it. I was thinking get an iPhone 5 and Craigslist it to some poor isheep for a cool $450ish profit. Or wait for the Galaxy Note II, and sell that one? I think the iPhone would bring better profit. You guys have any ideas?

I think your logic is flawed here. You get the upgrade by signing a contract. So let's say you do this and get the iPhone 5 and sell it for 500 bux. You get you supposed cash for ****s and giggles or to get a new device, that's cool too. Now what happens when a surprise must have device drops in four months. You've spent your money and now are also still locked into contract. Person who bought you iPhone 5 made out like a bandit while your stuck with **** all.
My advice, upgrade to the phone you want or buy your phone outright and get off contracts. Don't let some shmuck on CL make out with deal cuz you want a little party cash.
My $0.02 anyways.

Never buy a phone subsidized unless you totally have to.. Screw 2 year contracts, I'll pay full price please.
In your case I'd buy the iPhone and flip it for some "now" money. You can actually sell it for around 6-700 if you time it right.

I would also get the Note 2, but I thought that you had to keep the phone activated on the line you are upgrading for at least 90 days... might want to check on that... I have two lines and they have different upgrade times, so I thought I could basically have an upgrade each year by alternating but they told me that the phone has to be activated on the line for 90 days... maybe it was just a rep having a bad day...

Im interested in the answer here as well. The only way I can find to make it cheaper is to go T-Mobile on their $30 monthly plan - http://goo.gl/dNLll
It gets pretty cheap compared to your base sprint plan pretty quick going that route.
Are there other options there I am missing?

Nope it's at least this long. Bill paid on time etc... Our they can go after you for the full price of the phone.. best thing to do is call and ask or actually read the policy on a subsidized phone..

Not true, they may tell you this at sprint but as long as you activate a new or upgraded phone on the line its supposed to go on you can immediately call back n switch it to another line or off lines. I've done it dozens of times. As long as a phone stays on the line your good, only has to be new phone for a sec to trip the account.
Wait for the new Nexus.

Just my personal belief in not signing a 2 year contract to use a service. I can walk away at any time in those 2 years and not be stuck with an ETA and can also come back as I please. Also you pay a high premium for that phone when it's subsidized.
I just feel it's better to have the option to leave when/if you want.. Guess I shouldn't have said "Never" as I was pushing my thoughts on people. I should have worded it a little different. If you can avoid to purchase the phone full price that's the way to go so you're not locked in and locked down for 2 years.

That's actually a pretty solid deal. I wonder if it will be up on the VZW website before Xmas. I'm debating on Note 2 or DNA (obviously), and the DNA is getting pretty stellar reviews from all over, but that 6-7 hours of ONSCREEN time on the Note 2 makes me want it ever so much. What good does this do you? You're paying an extra $40/month for the upgrade? In two years you'll have paid ~$960 for the second line that you maintain just to get an upgrade every year. If you're putting a dumb phone on the line so you don't have to pay data you're a little better than buying a phone outright, but not much.

Alright, so tomorrow I'm buying the Galaxy Note 2 off contract. On the website, it sticks to just being 700 dollars.
If I go to the store to purchase it (as I'm eager to get it already) will it still just be 700? I heard that already includes taxes and stuff. Or will tax still be added onto the 700bucks?

Every verizon listing on eBay (which are very few compared to other carriers) seem to be used with slight scratches on the screen. Or the biddings don't end for days down the road. Plus if something should happen, I feel safer with Verizon vs going through a hassle with the person I bought it from.
And I live in Lincoln, Ne, not many people selling new phones on Craigslist. I didn't find one listing for it. There was barely even any for the S3.
Plus, it's only about 40bucks cheaper, while it'd be nice, I'll make due.

Actually, even if LG unlocked it to be just like the N4 AT&T would never allow that update, they absolutely hate their users having root or anything xda generally strives for.
My guess is that, among other things, it is so easy to tether/hotspot once rooted without paying for such a plan.

I've also seen some in Texas. Also, anecdotally two of the AT&T stores near me were completely sold out of the OG when I was trying to get my phone replaced for what the techs chalked up to a hardware issue. They are selling, but still nowhere near a similar HTC or Samsung phone in a likelihood.

Well... if they only carried 2 as opposed to the 20+ Samsung/HTC phones... it wouldn't be THAT difficult to sell out.
I thought I was getting a steal when i bought it at best buy for 99 which turned out to be 146 due to California taxes. Considering returning it here at school (not cali) just to go to Costco and buy it for 100$ less. Anyone know if that evens possible now that its already been two weeks and am locked into my att contract?

I don't think they are, it is just Apple and Samsung have become SO well known that most people looking for a new phone only know those two.

well that and the fact that AT&T reps are still pushing the GS3 like it's a better phone.....

i think best buy has a 14 day return policy, plus a restocking fee
At Sprint, they tell us to push iPhone. If a customer wants an Android, we are supposed to push them to iPhone. I, of course, do not follow this at all and am straight up with the customers.

as far as i know, they dont have a restocking fee and the return policy is 30 days. I am more concerned whether it is even possible for me to retunr the phone and go to costco to buy a new one even though i am already locked in on contract
As long as you are in the return window, once you return it they reset your "upgrade" with ATT so you will be back to same status you were before the purchase

I really really want this phone, but on Verizon my family and I have the grandfathered-in unlimited data plan. However this means getting phones off-contract and bringing them to Verizon, because if we upgrade through Verizon we'll be moved to the tier system, and we would very much not want to do that (as a family we use around 12GB a month, which is above the highest tier of 10GB)
So, I found it on craigslist for $425. Worth it? Any good upcoming deals on sites to get the phone cheaper than that off-contract?
EDIT: It is black 32GB model btw

Yes. You can't get a better phone for that price. It's cheap.
Any answer you get would be just opinion and since you're in g2 forum most will probably say yes. What's important to you in a phone? I personally think the g2 is worth every penny but if you want a phone that is on the latest software and youre not interested in the LG extras get the nexus 5. Ultimately it comes down to your personal preference

Absolutely worth it. I bought mine from Verizon for $449 during their special and love it.
Just could not part with my unlimited data.
It replaced my Galaxy Nexus which I've owned since release day.

Nexus 5 is unfortunately not on Verizon. And in my area, the other Big 3 are shoddy services
Check ebay you can find cheaper.

I've got both and would suggest you get the G2 anyways. That price is great I'd say go for it.

Not sure if you're aware, but there's a workaround to keep your unlimited data while upgrading if you have any dumbphones on your plan.

Battery, the Screen, IR blaster, speaker, I really like the UI I could go on and on. With that being said I like the n5 also I just think the G2 is a much better overall phone.

I paid $430 on ebay for new in box AT&T 32gb black last week. Seems to be the going rate. I'm really enjoying it.
I just got a g2 on ebay brand new sealed box white 32gb for 400
I got mine for $410 + $10 Swappa fee on Swappa the other week, your price is very good too
