Phone wont turn on - HTC Droid DNA

Was in the middle of installing a new rom today and was having some issues with the data on the Carbon ROM. Got that fixed and data came back and before I could reboot into bootloader the phone just shut off. There was over 50% battery still left when it happened. Now it will not turn back on. I've tried the normal vol down + power for at least a minute with nothing. I've also tried vol up + vol down + power also did not work. I've also tried all of that after removing the sim card. Literally nothing happens at all with anything I try. Is there another method to reboot that I don't know about? Am I bricked?

Try fully charging it before you turn it on. Also, this belongs in q&a

Same happen to my phone only I was just listening to music and it shut off.I had mine replaced by Verizon for free.

Sounds like a brick or hardware failure. Maybe try a jtag unless you have insurance and can get it replaced. Josh from mobile tech videos on YouTube is good and of it is a brick he can fix it for you.

This has happened to me twice now. I don't believe it has anything to do with the ROM. Verizon replaced both mine s-off and all. If your not getting a charge light they can't turn it on either.

I have also seen this issue resolved when someone disconnected the battery and then reconnected it. If your comfortable with opening the phone to do that it's worth a shot.

this just happened to me. just turned on max volume on CF 9/17.

[Q] DNA screen won't turn on

So I recently got a replacement DNA from verizon, but I'm not sure if it's a refurb or not. Anyway, I left my phone for like two hour today on at least like 70 percent charge, and when i came back the screen wouldn't turn on. When i hold down the power button, the three LED buttons flash, but nothing happens. I tried plugging it in, but the charge light indicator won't even come on. Just making it clear, my phone is NOT rooted. What do i do!
I would go to a Verizon store, and ask the rep for another replacement. If the issue gets worse email HTC support @ HTC.com
Hope this helps.
Did you try like pressing and holding the power button until the lights flash AND it vibrates ? If not, try that, like next.

Have you held the power button for 20 seconds once the 3 lights start flashing? That should force it to perform a reboot

Aww man. That sucks. Alright thanks.
Isn't verizon supposed to test the device to make sure it fits the precirtifed stuff. I that's poor customer support and if that's the case I would request that they credit your account or provide you with some kind of benifit

[Q] (Q) Possibly bricked my i717

My phone boots up for 5 seconds to the samsung screen and then it shuts off. I can not get into recovery. I tried going into download mode, but when it enters download mode approx 5 sec and then it shuts off not enough time for odin to run. My battery is fully charge. What should I do?:crying:
Does it vibrate and restart as well?
Could possibly be the power button is stuck. Happens sometimes.
And since it Powers up ... It is not bricked.

Stuck power button. . . or flashed an incomplete Rom from a bad download. . .just guessing because you didn't say what you did that led up to this.
How about a little insight on events leading up to the issue.

Last night i flashed Xylon 2.5 unOfficial Rom for quincyatt from ManelScott4Life off his site and then i flashed the recent 4Ace kernel and it was working perfectly for I used it for a couple hour before going to sleep. As I was listening to music on the way to school. It shut off and until now i need to take battery out n put back in order for it to boot for 5 seconds n shuts off again
Odd....But I still would not rule out a stuck button.
If you have a good backup that you can restore, you might could try a wipe and reflash of that backup.
The real test will be if you can boot into your recovery and it stays there. If it does not, then the problem leans toward a button issue again.
And of course, the battery could also be causing trouble. We have had failed batteries act the same as you describe. If you have a spare, try it. If not, plug the device into AC power and attempt the boot into recovery.
Either way, if the phone stays in recovery, you have a battery issue, or corrupted rom...g

Same Problem
I have a question. I have the same exact problem as the OP. However in my case I dont know what happened to the phone as someone just gave it to me since it didnt work and I have a Note they figured I could use it for parts. That aside At first i tried everything and no go. But today i was able to put it into download mode and like 5 seconds into it it shuts off. My main question is how do you know if the button is stuck 1. 2. How do you fix that?
Edit: well i opened my phone up and cleaned out the button and rubber thing and it did the trick! You guys are my heroes!!!
Glad we could help

How did you clean out your button? I have the EXACT same symptoms, but my rubber buttons in the case, and white power button appears to be clean. I can hear the button itself make contact. I can't get to recovery mode, but I can hit download mode for 5 seconds.
leaving the casing of the phone removed, I have the same exact symptoms so it Has to be the button itself... *shrug
the button gets stuck even when you still hear/feel it clicking. open the phone and blast it with duster. Press and depress the button rapidly many times till it frees internally

[Q] DNA not turning on. What?!

I was using my phone earlier, and everything was normal. I put it in my pocket when using my computer, but when I pulled it out to use it, the device was off. I pressed the power button. Nothing. Held the power button down. Nothing. Held the power button + volume down. Nothing, again.
The phone was fully charged three hours ago when I unplugged it, and when I plug it in now there are no lights turning on.
I'm incredible confused and a bit scared. Has this happened to anyone else? What do I do?

Plug it in either to an outlet or the USB on your pc (I cant remember which) and hold the power button down until it comes back to life... Should work
What Rom and kernel are you running and are you overclocking?

Try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it if your comfortable with opening the phone it worked for someone else with this issue where the dna magically died.

I'm a little afraid to try and open it in fear of damaging it more
But I also don't think I could open it since I don't have much in terms of tools.
Make sure you are holding the power button for at least 30 seconds. IF that doesn't work, try power and volume down for 30 seconds. If that doesn't work, leave on the charger for an hour, then try again, both plugged in, and unplugged

I'm upset that this even happened. What could possibly cause the battery to just go dead like this?
Return it or get a replacement, there have been quite a few reports of battery / no power issues.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Most of them just reset the battery by disconnecting it and reconnecting it. I'm sure there is a way to reset it with a combination of buttons. Maybe go call htc the support is actually really good I haven't had any bad interactions with them in the 2 instances I called. This should also be covered on the year warranty and they should replace it for free since it has not been a year yet. I would call.

It was a hardware failure, they'll probably send it back to HTC for refurbishment or recycling. It's unlikely that they will find out that you rooted it.

well you did open it up, and they might find that out; pretty sure that will void the warranty. unless you are able to mend it back up. i screwed up my first dna and got a replacement since it wouldnt turn back on and they never found out
Verizon sent me a refurbished one and I sent in the broken one. It wasn't through insurance.

I wouldnt be able to send mine it anyway. Theres a hair like crack on the screen and they wont send one out or they will but then they would see it then charge me the full price of the phone because of it. Customer negligence......

I am having this exact issue with my Droid DNA. The circumstances are exactly the same. Two weeks ago, I stuck my phone into my pocket, took it out five minutes later and the device was off. Since then, Everything I've tried to get it to turn on has not worked. I even got a replacement battery however nothing.
When on the charger, all it does is blink the red light no matter how long I leave it on. I'm desperate as this phone is a second hand purchase and not on warranty. Also, I live in the Caribbean so I don't have many options for getting it fixed/replaced. I've tried every button combination, searched many forums and tried many suggestions.
Is there anybody who may have ANY other ideas to get this phone to work?
The phone is not rooted.
Verizon doesn't care if its soff and htc don'ts care. Verizon just isn't allowed to give you service if they know if soff.

Holding the reset button for 3 seconds is like pulling the battery. Once you've done that, you then hold the power button to power it back up. Will always work unless the device is dead. It happens from time to time. But if it wont power up then its a warranty issue.
this happened to me a couple of times back...
I tried doing factory reset (wiping out all data) the phone still acted up...
then i noticed that my album had issues loading up photos and videos i saved on the SD card (I'm using a 64gig Micro SD). I had about 20% unused space left on my memory card.
I removed the SD card and the the phone stopped acting up... i decided to remove some of my heavier files out of the SD card specially movies... and problem stopped...
Occasionally I would experience this... Now all I do is re-seat my memory card and the phone would act normal again....
Weird, I also just had this happen... I have a blinking white notification light, so I put it on the charger a little while ago and see what's going on. I'll try the SD card thing if it still refuses to turn on. Have never had an android phone just crap out like this, makes me nervous...
OK, weirdly enough, I picked up the phone about a half hour later and the screen turned on fine, back to normal. No idea why this happened.

What model of htc do you have?
Dumb question, have you taken the battery out?
and a light should come on when its charging but doesnt?
it is more than likely possible to recover as long as nothing is damaged, i had a bootloop virus after trying to root, i had a friend fix it for me but all he did was flash the stock ruu using adb which was a pain in the ace because adb couldnt find the phone and the stock ruu was a Beach.
um, if none of those work, try a different cable i guess? trying to see if it is just an easy fix before you have to do anything 'fun'
No I didn't take the battery out it's not removable and no lights come on whatsoever and the pc can not see my phone no matter what cable I use
Let it sit on the charger for a day (24 hours) and then try to turn it on, this has been known to work. If this doesn't work then you may need to send it in. Could be bad battery or motherboard.
Thanks I'll try it man
Have you performed the 3 finger salute for about 10 seconds? It drains all power so you know if your toast. Hold the volumes and power.
