Is it just me or does the GS4 seem to creak?
Ex:
(NOT WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE)
Pretend youre breaking a twig in half - grab both ends and bend the middle (VERY VERY GENTLY) and i hear a crackling noise.
take off back panel + battery, same thing - less creak (Obviously i'm thinking its my back panel)
use 2 fingers to push the top right of the phoneand you hear a small creak
Is this just me? I'm not entirely sure wether or not my phone is A) Defective or B) Warping from heat (It heats up nicely when charging)

It's mainly plastic with a metal frame. The plastics will creak since it's not unibody.

I have done that before and it scared the s*** out of me, i thought i broke my phone, but as igacek said, it is plastic, which makes it light, so that is why you hear creaking.

Hey, have I just noticed this last night. If you use the top of the magic pen on the screen, it works just like your finger does. More specifically, it works like a capacitive stylus would! This wasn't advertised as a feature, was it? If not, I'm glad I figured it out. It makes it so I only have to use my fingers sporadically.

It's an old trick to use the negative side of a battery on a capacitive screen for a makeshift stylus. Since the negative side of the battery is cap side, it takes advantage of said trick.

Actually it has nothing to do with a battery..
It's just a metal conductor touching your fingers with a large contact area, you could use a frozen sausage!
Use the back of a teaspoon on the screen and it works just as well!
Take care though, the metal can easily scratch the screen.
Best thing to do is attach a small piece of conductive foam (the soft black kind that delicate IC's are sold in) to the top of the pen.

I will somewhat disagree.
While the pen may act as a conductor, holding the pen with a pair of insulated pliers and using it upside down also works. Thus, it is the battery as well
Sometimes I shouldn't be allowed to play with stuff when I get bored.
Regardless, it is a neat unintended feature

Agreed, it will work this way due to negative charge on capacitive coupling but we always look at MISS (Make it simple, stupid!)
If i can explain to readers, a better use of their pen with a nice bit of conductive foam on the top (EVEN if the battery is missing or completely flat) then that is the best option in my opinion, no need for confrontation.
Oh, BTW, your choice of pliers will have an effect on your experiment! If they have any metal content, the capacitive coupling pick-up from your hand is increased, just try it with non-conductive plastic tweezers/forceps and it won't work... We ain't talkin miiliamps here, were talkin nanoamps...

Neat that those things work and all, but how cumbersome is it to use
some hulking monstrosity as a makeshift stylus that is intended to be used for delicate/precise touches such as drawing? Wrap a leaf blower in foil and connect that to 300 feet of copper wire which is spun around your body and leave a length of wire as long as your finger coming off the top of your hand and you don't even have to hold it!

Yep this is a little old-- New news is that when Honeycomb drops it's supposed to have support for the pen tip to be used as the stylus.
The back plate makes creaky sounds all of the time is this normal or can it be fixed

Slap some electrical tape under it in different spots until it doesn't creak any more.

cut some paper the size of the battery, and stick them between the battery and the case. Add/take away sheets of paper till the case still closes but the creak is gone. We did this on the droid bionic, did wonders for the terrible creak of the phone. I haven't had to much creak with the rezound, but been meaning to do this with the phone.
yeah, I notice that as well with my unit. It is a little annoying. I have to say while the phone is nice, the build quaility really needs a little better.
You'll get used to it. No big deal.
The TPA case that goes only around the edges (sold on htcpedia.com) helps reduce this. It fits the regular back and OEM extended battery back. Best case I've ever had on a phone.

I bought the extended battery and back and that TPA case that goes around the edges but leaves the back exposed does a great job of squeezing the back and phone together and eliminating the squeeks. I like the regular size battery but with the TPU case, I use the extended battery all the time.
solution is too buy a 3rd party case.
My original Rezound didnt creak, but my replacement one does a bit. I notice it most when I'm cleaning the screen, cause that seems to put the most pressure on it. Sticking a bandaid on the battery seems to have helped it a lot though..
i put a thin piece there to stop the creaks, which it did..it's funny though, now my rezound easily spins in circles on a table hahah..that THIN piece of paper was enough to bulge the middle of teh back cover out to make it spinny!
Don't forget that paper is an insulator. That's why homeless people use newspaper as a blanket. Your phone will retain more heat, longer with paper shoved inside it.
yeah, we voiced those concerns back wehn this topic came out like the week the phone came out haha..was always a problem..but most of us never really noticed any higher temps than normal..my phone never goes over like 42 degrees C, which is what, around 100 degrees F?
I'm pretty nit picky about my phone creaking and I've had a lot of time on my hands so recently I've given this topic way to much thought.....
The creaking is due to the plastic not fitting perfectly and the friction created when the battery door slightly moves around.
I sat down with a bottle cap, a q-tip, and a can of WD-40 (I know, I know, call me crazy if you must )
I filled up the bottle cap with WD-40 and dipped the q-tip in it. I carefully LIGHTLY applied it on all the connecting tabs on the battery door. Voila! Be careful to avoid all the antenna metal stuff so you don't mess up your reception.

Not sure if my devices is refurbished or defunct, but when i press firmly on the sides of the INC 4g, I get a similar ripple effect like when you press on your LCD monitor too hard.
I came from the Inc 2 and the build quality on that device, i would have to say is a little bit better than the 4g. Anyone else experiencing this or is my device just faulty?

It just says something about the build quality if pushing on certain area of the phone have adverse effects. That shouldn't happen

I have this same problem. After removing my back to insert my microSD card and reattaching the back, the case no longer closes completely, with casing immediately on the bottom of the volume rocker not latching on properly. In attempting to make it, I pressed firmly on the edge and it made my screen ripple slightly for a moment.
My EVO4G would ripple when I squeezed the sides. It was one of those thing you found out about through other people complaining. Yet after a while I never even noticed that anymore. I don't think I ever needed to squeeze a phone that hard either.
Just remember. Cell phones are like cars. They used to build them well with no features, now they build them cheap with the works.
Speaking of build quality....my phone is barely 3 days old...dropped it a short distance..way shorter than more of the hundred plus times I dropped my inc 2...and the damn screen shattered.....wtf..

It's not necessarily how far you drop it (although there is a point at which height just overcomes everything, call it terminal velocity hehe) but it's where it hits. Tempered glass is extremely strong, but it's also tempered. An extremely light tap from just the right direction will cause it to shatter.
A perfect example of this was a gas station I worked at back in college. The glass they have that protects the cashier from an explosion is about 3 inch thick tempered glass. It would withstand an explosion of huge magnitude. I watched them replace that pane of glass one day, when they removed it, they loaded it into the back of a truck and gave it a slight rap on the corner with a hammer and it shattered in the bed of the truck. They did this intentionally by the way

Take some black electrical tape, cut a strips about 1 inch long and about 2-4 mm wide. You will want to put them under the lip of the back case, adhesive side in, on the middle left, upper right(above the antenna not on them), top and bottom. if you cut them thin enough the case will snap back on and never creak,
I had todo this on my rezound too, they made these backs really flimsy to the point where they eventually won't snap back together.
I just dropped my phone from my desk top on the floor. Luckily floor was made of ceramic tile. No major dent or scratches. I had used barely there case cuz like the thinner profile. I didn't notice anything on the day I dropped the phone but today I noticed a little hair line crack in the rim just above the ear piece. I am little ocd about crap like this. I was just wondering if possible to replace the rim of the phone? Is this metal or just plastic? Would appreciate if someone could let me know if this is possible. Thanks.

I think youd have to take the screen off,which is tricky.I think the rim your talking about is like the whole backing of the screen.

Hey guys,
Im a proud owner of an HOX+ and im definitely satisfied with it as it is my first smartphone. However it is a quality product, it seems that the engineers tried to save some money (or whatever the reason is) and made our camera lens protector from plastic.
Due to this maleur, i started getting unclear and fuzzy pictures with a purple lane on the top, after a half-year use. I surfed over the net and found some solutions (use toothpasta, banana and more unbelievable methods).
I used Sonax's chrome and alu pasta with a regular nano wipe. It only took 1 mins, you have to push the wipe quite hardly, but you are not at gym so do not destroy your phone i did it clockwise and the result was a totally clear, unscratched surface.
After the process some pasta remained near the lens, i removed it with a corner of a paper due it is thin, but be careful not to screw up your work.
To prevent further scratches, i placed a round shaped piece of a screen guard.

Did this a few months back and I was afraid it would scratch. But it didn't, it seems the lens is more resistant without the coating
Same here, it works with toothpaste. I used lens cleaning paper since it doesn't disintegrate like tissue. Then carefully removed excess paste by wiping with a moist tissue.

I used some plastic scratch remover stuff, made for car headlights. Worked great, took all the scratches right off. Its been 6 months since that, been more careful to keep it from getting scratched.
And does any of you know a trick that removes the scratches from the screen?

I'm sorry to be that nitpicky, but will any kind of toothpaste do? Or simple white one?
I've got some scratches on the lens cover, nothing serious yet but I wanna be prepared to do this when the time comes
I'm definitely going to try this. What kind of cloth did you use to rub it in though? Is a tissue fine?
Ive used the bag of my sunglasses. It is nanowipe so it's tender enough. Do not use anything made of paper. I don't know anything about the toothpaste method.
