Hello everyone.
I recently got a galaxy phone as a gift from a chinese friend of mine. I already have a galaxy s3 and I am very much familiar with the rooting n romming procedures etc.
This phone I got is called the Galaxy style duos SCH-i829. It comes with android 4.1.1.
The problem is, this phone is extremely different and weird compared to other android devices Ive used. For starters, it does not give me any option to make a google account, hence I cant use google play or any gapps. I have searched online so much on any kind of support or forum for this phone, but have found none.
I want to make it like a normal android phone with a normal google account linked to it etc. I wanted to know, is there anyway I can install a normal android 4.1.1 from somewhere on this? and not the chinese one? Im guessing that might be the problem and thats why it does not give me options even to make a google account.
So some one, please help me on this and let me know what I can do to make this phone like normal so I can use it normally, with normal android versions.

Try this:
Turn on USB debugging on the phone, and open a command prompt window. Type these commands:
adb shell
ls /
Post the output here.
Have you got the sollution? I am facing the same problem.....

I have Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus I9205 model. Android 4.1.2 Baseband version I9105XXAMBB1.
Few days ago i had problem with my play store it showed no connection error. I visited many forums and almost all them stated same solution like removing cache and enabling and disabling download manager etc, but nothing worked with my phone. I cant access my gmail account as i sign in it gives an error that can't establish a reliable connection to the server. So please tell me what to do? as i am thinking about rooting. if rooting will work how should i root and please provide complete details as soon as possible !!

I have an Samsung Galaxy S Plus GT-I9001 official with the latest Rom Gingerbread 2.3.6. so because i want to use some apps they start from Jellybean 4.0..... i have to change !
I have done already some work on HTC One m7 like rooting so i think that as i am an newby i know a little bit of how to do things, but now with my Samsung i am lost kompleet !
I fond here in the xda section an thread related to my samsung and changing it to Jellybean 4.1.2 what i did, and everything is working so far, have Wifi, make Phonecalls, send SMS and MMS enter into Internet and get mails. Now the Problem comes that i am not able to go into the Google Playstore !
I have downloaded the apk from phone installed it and when i open it (to download from my account apps) it closes emidetly ! I have tried to recover my gapps, deleted the cache of google play, forced to stop and started again but now way.
The other thing i expirence now is that i am not getting any connection over USB to my computer anymore, it is installing some drivers and i have now in the explorer one CD drive with letter (what seam to come from my phone) but when i start it it say to enter an cd/dvd.
What i have done wrong or is somthing missing !? I hope not that i have Bricked my phone. And when it will be not possible for me to install Jellybean then i have to see to downgrade back to 2.3.6. so how can i do this !?
Sorry for my English but my main language is German and i try hard !

Addition to my Problem !
it seam that i have destroyed (Bricked) my Samsung, since my first thread i was trying on to solve the Problem but with no way i can get it o work with any gapps app. the other thing is that i wanted the finaly to try to get it downgraded with ODIN Multidownloader, but like i see now in the ROM what was given from the XDA Forum there seam to be no MTD driver so the ODIN Multidownloader nor the Kies would identify or see my phone any more!
I that case i have to live with this and only can use the phone for Calls,SMS, Mails and nothing else ! At least somthing so the phone is not totaly useless ! :laugh :laugh:
What it looks like is that nothing is on the Phone like Framework, Downloadmanager, and all related Googel apps to work fully or make connection to Google Playstore and Computer USB for Kies.

Now my problem is the phone is working only for making phone calls and receiving phone calls. i cant even do SMS from this phone & its completely different then how it was. moreover i am not able to install whatsapp on this phone. and i am not able to see any google apps on the phone. neither my contact list is visible i had more then 700 contacts . and when i go on internet via WIFI and try to download whatsapp it says there is NO DEVICE. i am now confused and i dont know what to do. please can any one help me with simple steps how can I get my old version back or atleast how can i get google play store on this phone. Another important thing i tried to connect through Kies but even thats failure my device does not get connected to Samsung Kies anymore. i am worried i hope i havnt lost all my contacts.:

You have to install the Google Apps as a separate install when dealing with most non stock roms. Surely the guide you were looking at mentioned that...? Weird that you are having issues with Sms as it's rare roms have that trouble. Which messaging app are you using? Your contacts aren't there because you wiped your phone, installed a new operating system, and didn't install the Google apps to resync your account. I'm confused on why you're surprised by that... Kies doesn't work on non stock roms and is a much inferior tool vs Odin. Also, didn't you do a nandroid backup before installing Slim? If so, you could just restore that and you would be back to the previous version in like 10 minutes. If you didn't...well, you weren't looking at the right guides then. I think Slim is 10x better than stock, personally but depending on the phone and version, there can be some minor issues.
I think that Whatsapp doesn't recognize your phone because of the custom DPI. If you set that to stock value, it should work.

How can install whatsapp as i am not able to locate play store icon on my phone any more. and you are correct about SMS my SMS is working. i was not seeing very well. please guide me how to install playstore and whatsapp

Hi everyone
My friend bought this phone, i guess it's a chinese version of an Samsung Galaxy S5. He was testing it and the phone doesn't even bring the Google Play Store. I tried to installed manually but as soon as it opens it closes itself. I then proceed to check his android account but found that there was none on the phone and it didn't even asked for one. We factory reseted the phone and it still didn't asked for a google account.
I went to the settings to try and upgrade its android version but found no upgrade button.
Anyone got any ideas?

That's because it doesn't have any Google Apps package installed. It's common with chinese devices (clones). You need to install a gapps package and probably spoof the phone as another one. There's tutorials on the net if you Google it. You'll need root.

All of a sudden my dad's phone is behaving weird. I am not able to access the playstore and gmail. First of all the playstore was asking for a google account to be associated. And when I tapped on add it crashed. I went to the settings->Accounts and sync->add account and there was no google account option. I'm not an android user so I'm unsure if I remember this right but there should be google account option to be added. I tried to hard reset the phone but it does not seem to work. I mean it is not getting formatted fully as I still see the superuser. Btw I had rooted this device but I can't remember with which method. As I said earlier I'm not an android user so I'm not much into it. Dad came to me with this problem and I'm still trying to figure it out how do I get it sorted. Please if anyone can help me with this I would be grateful.

It's likely that your Gapps are corrupted in some way, you'll need to find Gapps that work for your device and you should be all good.
