My bootloader is unlocked and the device wants to update to that horrible 4.2.2.

If applied, the update may download but will fail to install.

I see. 4.2.2 was the reason i unlocked it and checked out custom ROMs.
Sadly they lack stamina mode And use way too much battery when Not used (no deepsleep).
Now i hope for a tablet UI mod for Sonys 4.2.2.

Deactivate the update app via Titanium Backup (so that it`s not bugging you anymore) and remain on 4.1.2. It's a wonderful ROM, don't believe that you need another ROM to be happy with your XTZ.

It's over the air, don't accept it! Otherwise your device will brick!!!!!
You can only flash the .ftf and after that a prerooted kernel, but don't make updates over the air when your bootloader is unlocked

Frankly speaking, that sounded a little sarcastic for some reason.
Anyways, what do I do now? How do I get that notification off my notification bar/drawer?

Uninstall update center will solve your problem. You don't need it anyway. Or flash the .ftf which should be uploaded somewhere here on xda
i think it wont brick your phone as long as you have a locked bootloader. but you will lose your root access

It will brick his phone, because his bootloader is unlocked (he is using extended stock kernel!). So don't accept the update!

:good:
so to TS, you may relock bootloader and root via the downgrade and update method if you really want the .587 update

If I were him, I'd wait for someone who upload the .587 ftf. Then he can just flash it and a prerooted kernel like rage kernel for 4.0.4 and he has the latest rooted sony ics firmware
I will just chuck the update and uninstall update center as advised.
Thanks a lot for the info guys
Update to .587 and then follow this tutorial to root your phone. I did it already!

[Q] Can I root but stay official?

I have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra, running 4.4.4. Is it possible to do a simple root (in order to make adjustments to the LED and sound), but not affect the stock ROM or over-the-air updates? I don't want to miss out on the official Sony Lollipop, so should I maybe wait to root until after that update is released? Thanks.
No, you can't get offical updates if you have your device rooted , although you can root your device till the new update is on the line. Just unroot your sony device get the update and then root it again. Otherwise try any other rom.
Ah, many thanks. I didn't realise that was possible. I thought rooted was rooted and there was no going back. Although I've rooted a couple of devices before, I'm still something of a newbie. Would you be able to point me in the direction of a good tutorial or website with instructions how to do a basic root, and un-root, on the Z Ultra? Cheers.

I found it pretty helpful , instructions are simple.

Is there a reason as to why google doesn't allow OTA on rooted devices?

Does the Update Center work for you?

Hey guys,
I'm on the lastest Existenz ROM, bootloader unlocked, my question is if I'm the only one that doesn't get updates in the update center app (like Walkman etc.)?

it stops working once you modify your device and only will continue to work untill you flash a stock firmware (and keep it unmodded)
Oh okay I didn't knew this, does the update center work with a stock rom only with root?

No, you just need to relock the bootloader to get it to work.

Yup, sure. Just after I relock the bootloader the Update Center get's to work. I have a totally modified firmware: modified system partition, custom DPI, Xposed and a lot of modified drivers etc.
I suggest that you try a different FTF, for example the Customized DE.

Need Assistance Please

Okay so I am on C6806 .108 4.4.4. KitKat Stock with Root and Unlocked Bootloader & DN Recovery, started getting the system update available notification for LP .242.
So if someone could please direct me on my options ie
Could I take the OTA Update since I have SuperSu Pro and have it on Survival Mode, would I keep root, or is there another already rooted update LP .242 has that I can flash from recovery, that is pure stock, just rooted with DNut recovery?
I want to stay rooted, with UB and DNut Recovery with LP .242 whats the best way to do this? thanks in advance for taking a moment to help

I flashed that zip with an unlocked bootloader. My update notice said it required a PC, I think because of having xposed and modified system. What happened was I had the update available for a few weeks and was ignoring it, then my phone froze and when rebooted it bootlooped. I tried factory reset which didn't work so at that point I had nothing to lose and installed lollipop. It didn't flash right from stock but did coming from a backup of an old beanstalk rom I had.

[Q][IMPORTANT] OTA Update Notifications after Boot loader U/L!

Hi everyone!
I Unlocked my bootloader about 7 months ago. I read somewhere in XDA that If you unlock your BL ,you won't receive OTA UPDATES.
But all of a sudden this noon I received bunch of notification inculding Xperia system update (update to 23.1.A.1.28), Video app, Info Eye , Whats New and photo editor app updates suggesting me to update them to the latest version and especially after 7 months and after I unlocked my bootloader! This is the first time i receive such notifications after unlocking my BL!
I'm currently on 23.1.A.0.690 Build!
now here is the question!
Should I Update my phone system (not apps) Using this OTA updates? or it's risky and my phone gets bricked and I should use the same old ftf way or CMW Recovery Update?
Please Answer Me , I'm So confused if this is a change in Sony rules or it's just a notification that everyone with unlocked BL used to receive and I should update too!!!
update: My rooting status in Service Menu is: Unknown!!!!!
update 1: I Updated Photo Editor, Video and What's New from what's New App itself!
Just update, your phone will continue to work normally
Its a possibility the verifacation system that stops after Ub ot root, its possible that it may fail to check properly hence some people have OTA on Root and unlocked bootloaders

Ok Thanks, But isn't it risky to update through this OTA Notifications? because I haven't updated with this notification yet.
I mean if I update with this does my phone get bricked?
My point is Should I update Using this notification or use the old way?
thanks for your response!

No, you just lose root and if your jumping android versions or a kernel change then if your on UB then your kernel becomes stock.
