What's the difference... - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

What is the difference between these two forums below:
Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Android Development
AND
Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Original Android Development
Being that the phone just came out, I'm a bit confused at there being an original dev forum and a dev forum. There being two of the same forums for the HTC EVO 4G LTE would make sense since the phone has been out for more than year, I could see the reason for the Orig Dev forum being for the early devs and the other forum being for newer dev progress.

One is Touchwiz, the other is AOSP

Original work includes kernels, recoveries, ROMs built from source, apps/mods written from scratch, and ROMs with extensive mods integrated into it (for example, think of Viper4G on the Evo LTE).
The rest goes on the normal Android Development forum (including ROMs ported from other devices)

Apparently you didn't read the very first thread inside of the original development forum. This is in almost, if not every, forum for every device.

This is a sprint phone it's very limited in users ... The galaxy you speak of is an international phone so it has more users throughs the world
And this is not development you posted in the wrong section

Galaxy s iii came out in April, give it some time. We will have AOSP, CM9, and MiUi at least starting in the next few months I would guess. Remember I preordered and only got my phone 11 days ago.

Plus one on that. I'm gonna be adding the device tree to our source here soon for some classicnerd aosp flavors too. I'm sure this phone will explode here soon. It's been what, a couple weeks at most? I would say this developement has been faster than most and on par to become a legendary device.

Your thread has been moved. It didn't belong in Development.
Thanks
thanks guys for the quick responds....
There are so many good phones now days you are never going to get the amount of development for one phone as you did back in the Classic EVO days. It's just the way it is. Developers are spread too thin and a lot of them still support devices that are 2+ years old.
The terrible state of Sprint's network doesn't help either. Once LTE is available nationwide and people start seeing Sprint as an option for fast mobile data maybe more people will sign with them. I wouldn't expect that to start happening until 2014 or so. The people with Sprint now are most probably long time customers who are with them for the price rather than the performance.
I am more than happy with what we do have. The phone has been out a couple weeks and we have all sorts of mods, a bunch of really good Sense roms, even without a kernel source being released yet, and two really well known AOSP roms under way. I would love a few full blown themes and hope they come in time. I miss my blue Sense themes that I had while running mikshifted g back on my evo shift.

Was going to note that source code has not even been released for the EVO LTE. What do u expect? Can't work on a lot without the source...

401!!!!!!
the irc of Evo LTE Developers has some of the biggest names ive seen in a long time across multiple devices. They are just running private tests with a group of people before posting their roms. besides with out source we can only do so much.
3 new ROMs landed today including MIUI...just sayin'

That's why it is called development. If it was done there would be nothing left to develop

Honestly I can see the LTE being the next "EVO 3D"...the specs on this beast are impressive and it is more than capable of handling damn near anything thrown at it. LTE will be great to have, I don't miss my 4G that much as I use WiFi more often than not. But as the Dev's are finding out, even the hboot is completely different and we are not locked out of 95% of the boot sectors as with the 3D....not to sound too cheesy, but HTC built it...they will come lol
Personally I'm not looking for a thousand roms. I actually like a smaller development community with quality roms. I had that over at the OG Epic and Evo3d community and was more then happy. Each community happily lead me to a new device, which is usually yearly. What i look for in development is improvement over stock, fixing nagging bugs, useful tweaks and speed enhancements. If i get that i find no point in flashing and flashing. After awhile you got to realize development has peaked and there's not much to improve upon and one simply just move on.

i too dont like alot of roms, i hate sifting through pages and pages of roms
that either look like crap, have been scrapped or not supported, or have such minute changes from the rom above it.
i prefer a small collection of super stable roms
i also prefer the team roms because alot more highly skilled devs are involved in it together.
I'm just a beginner but I think I've made some cool mods for this phone

Why aren't there as many ROM's for the EVO 4G LTE as there are for the One X?

Okay so we all know that the Evo 4g LTE is pretty much the almost exact same as the One X obviously different hardware, but when it comes down to software aren't they almost exactly the same? Android 4.0, Sense 4, same internals more or less. So I have two questions that sort of all tie together. 1. Is porting ROM's hard? 2. Is there something I am missing to why we don't have as many ROM's as the One X? If they can be ported. I am not being a **** and saying developers need to work harder, because they don't they already work hard enough supporting their ROM's. I am genuinely curious as to why this is if the E4LTE and One X are very close devices. Again not supposed to be taken pushy or anything.
Source for our EVOs just dropped a couple days ago and the One X has had source since day one. Just wait your gonna end up see ALOT of Roms drop soon...

Plus the one x has a bigger base as in a larger spectrum of people with it. You got to think, world full of GSM vs 1 nation of sprint users.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
The international one x is a COMPLETELY different device, sense 4 being the only real similarity. We have almost identical device as the at&t, rogers one x, whose source was also JUST released. So wen checking one x forums you need to look for the at&t, rogers one x forum. NOT HTC one x forum. Two totally different devices, att. One x having qualcomm msm8960 snapdragon and the intl. Version having a Nvidia tegra 3 chipset

Thanks guys.

What does kernel source have to do with ROM releases? We'll see a couple of kernels here and there and perhaps some fixes in CM9/MIUI/AOKP/etc, but I doubt we'll see an influx of new ROMs because of it.
The One X been out longer and it's also available in more locations around the world. That's why it has more ROMs.

I feel like with kernel source Devs will end up cooking up more stable kernels and with that we'll probably end up seeing alot more ported Roms and AOSP based Roms. I'm just going off of my experiences with my past devices

Just switched to the EVO LTE. Why 2 Development Forums?

Hello,
I just switched to the EVO LTE and was wondering why there were two development forums?
One says EVO LTE Android Development, and the other says Original EVO LTE Android Development.
Whats the difference?
Basically, the "Original" development section is meant for work that is groundbreaking or new for this phone. Examples of this include kernels, CM9/CM10 development, MIUI development, and very special Sense ROMs. The other section is meant for the rest, which would be ROMs that use other ROMs as bases or ROMs that advertise mostly placebo effects as features.
Think of the "Original" section as "the big firsts".
Theres a sticky right at the top of the original android dev forum that explains it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761432
It gets all to confusing. A rom like viper lte is in the original section, but its base out of the pokemon rom and its scene base so its definitely not original. So yeah I still don't get what's the true definition of original.

Viper 4g is not based on pokemon, it was built ground up on the new ruu and is a collaboration of the viper and pokemon teams, now known as team venom.

You're one of the people who is taking "Original" literally, which is why you're confused. It doesn't mean that a ROM has to be made from scratch, it means that it has to display a considerate amount of original work. Venom ROM is in the "Original" section because it has many features that no other Sense ROM does, like the extensive tweaks. These tweaks represent a huge amount of effort made by the developers.

The Pokemon ROM is no longer in development, and has been replaced by Venom ROM. Why the hell would we keep a dead ROM in the "Original" section when there is essentially a newer version of it available?

Phone with best support?

I am helping my friend pick out a phone. He is on Boost Mobile. I have narrowed the phones down to the HTC Evo Design 4g or the ZTE Warp Sequent. I've been trying to search to see what all support there is for these devices as far as custom roms. I was hoping someone would know which phone would be better to get based on the support of these devices from the community. I have a Galaxy S2 and so easy to just come on here and look at the sub forum for it, but these phones do not have a sub forum on here. All help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Nexus? That isn't one of the two devices I listed, and as far as I am aware the Nexus phones aren't compatible with Boost.
I have the Warp Sequent. Out of box, its running 4.0.4 and runs fairly quickly. I haven't had any luck finding any custom rooms that actually work for it though. I'm pretty sure that the Evo design has some Custom Roms, but don't quote me on that.
*edit: Now running SuperRom. Sooo sweet. I've had no problems at all with this phone now that I have this rom.

Droid DNA and DNA original development forums ?

Whats the difference in these two forums ???
I might be wrong (I'm new here) but the original seems to be for WIPs and things that aren't considered finished products, while the other one is for things that are considered finished
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA using Tapatalk 4 Beta
It's supposed to be that the regular dev forum is fir general development and the original forum is for 'original' development, like not based off other stuff, one of a kind, etc.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Simply its built from source is original, modded is in the regular, this is why you see sense ROMs in regular and all the kernels and source built ROMs in original. The exception is viper, but they rewrote most of the framework anyways.
It has nothing to do with WIP or any such thing, it just happens the ROMs are WIP because they aren't fully working because the hardware isn't finished being supported yet.
