[Q] My s2 Went bersekr - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i have this s2... i can't say i've been nice to him. tried dozens of different roms on it.
i'm now on PA3 (4.3.1) runs peaches on it but it seem to have one minor flaw: the battery depletes in a matter of hours (mostly 4 or 5) and i'm not using it that much like i used to (basically IM, and CSR racing every now and then)
I have noticed that when the battery reaches 30% (i know that since i started using DU battery app) it just... dies on me it's like one moment it says "hey, i still got 30% to go" and the next one is flatlined all of freaking sudden...
Any of you wise guys have a clue?

I don't want to make any ad, but use SlimSaber by FusionJack (link in my sig) :highfive: the battery life is great and the update rate is amazing

Right.

I have the same issues with my phone.
S2, had the internals swapped from my busted screen phone over to my EMMC bricked phone.
2 original s2 batteries
knock off s2 Chinese battery.
I can get 3 hours screen on time, but my standby time is crap.
I recently thought it was something related to a rom, but I am now sure it is not.
Biggest issue simply has to be that the batteries health is reduced to around 65-85% of original just due to regular use and wear and tear.

well...

Ok i'm back (yes still working but w/e)
I tried the ROM with the gapps, it's pretty good, though it has a weird feeling to my fingers (Don't ask me what, i don't know)
I went back to my PA RC2 but the Battery problem persisted.
I was talking to a friend who once shoved a Macbook air in an oven to reball it (it worked btw) and happens to know a thing or two, he mentioned that maybe it was...
THIS!
What do you guys think?

oh wait no, the macbook in the oven was a totally different thing, i'm saying that maybe the usb port card is busted or something.
about the battery, well i already bought 2 and it keeps on happening (i actually turned the first one back because i thought it was damaged)
i already tried that 8-hour thing... not a chance

then you are right, srry for misunderstanding you :silly:

Lol....so an iProduct user says to put ur phone in the oven.......that'll work....lmao......
And I suppose it has nothing to do with the fact that iProduct users hate Samsung products with a passion......
Joking aside.....putting a faulty battery anywhere near an abnormal heat source is a veree baaad idea.....especially when you consider that it was probably heat that caused the battery to become faulty in the first place. Bloating is a non reversible, non repairable symptom of battery failure........

I recently put supersu on my phone and replaced whatever other SU was on there.
Immediately noticed my phone seemed quite snappier, and battery discharge speed slowed down from 3 to 4.5 minutes per 1%.
Anyone else see a similar change? Or maybe try it out if you haven't.

Keith... I never said I put any battery in the oven, read carefully next time.
Now on to important matters:
I made some important discoveries in the berserk s2 issue.
1.- the OEM battery (that is, for the ones that don't know or can't read properly: the one that came with the phone. I'm not in ashy form, implying that the current one I have is not a genuine battery) holds up from 100% to 0% (it does it faster than the others since it is a bit swollen from all the using and abusing of one year long (dissident before, I haven't been nice to the phone. I over use it). But any other batteries (OEM OR NOT) just die on me.
In layman's terms: old battery now lasts 50 seconds when it is supposed to last 60? Well, now new battery last 50 second too. Phone no care if battery new, phone used to old battery life and stuck with it...
I hope this does not create any more inconveniences.
Some other IT told me it could have something to di with the phone's power source, she mentioned something like the "phone's EPM consumption rate" or w/e. She also mentioned something that this kind of electrical problems are usually best not dealt with since I might end up literally finishing the phone for good (this sounds like bs for me since I fixed quite a few berrys back in the day)
Anyone has a good idea from here?

try dorimanx kernel, I don't know if it works, but in dorimanx you can change the power consumption rate :/
that is really ****ed up (sorry for my language usage)

Lol....I was having a jokey dig at iProduct users.....most of us do....lol
nothing more than that.....
I have noticed similar issues with my batteries......
I read somewhere that the older a battery gets or the more damaged it gets, the more difficult it becomes for the supplied charger to fully charge it......
Whether this is true or not I don't know......
But for me the solution was obvious.....take the supplied charger 'out of the loop' and use an external wall charger (you can get them on 'internet auction sites' for about £6) so that is what I did. My batteries take longer to charge, but they *seem* to last longer between charges.........
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

there goes nothing.
So i was told that maybe, just maybe the battery's "memory effect" had already permeated into the phone's memory core (ROM), and was suggested to blow the phone's ROM away and write a new one.
I did... i actually totaled the phone's Board for a couple of hours and reverted it to GB, then Updated it to ICSm then JB and then went back to Slimbean...
It did NOT work. phone turned off this morning @ 26& Batt (Or so it said while the schen blinked and died)
P.S: That Screen blinking seriously makes me think that it's just an electrical problem and should sell the phone for spares (One thing i find incredibly upsetting since i haven't used it for more than a year and living in my country is not easy to buy a good cellphone, S4 is worth 17 to 20 times th minimum wage and i only make 2.5 minimums... go figure)

got link?

Got a link for a compatible dorimanx?

yet another "i was told" post.
So i was told (I know, a lot of people tell me a lot of things) that if i charged my batter with an external source (Wall charger or something like that) and then use the batteries, the phone would eventually modify the energy parameters it currently has. i'd be kinda like readapting the phone to the energy parameters.
I know... i'm just desperate as F***!, my S2 is currently worth 2.3 times what i earn and i'm NOT about to spend 2.3 salaries in a new one before trying literally (and i emphasize that) EVERYTHING :crying::crying::crying:

For Recovery Flash: http://dorimanx.shine.sk/kernels-jb-new-mali-cm/Kernel_Dorimanx-V9.43-[12-16]-[24-10]-JB-SGII-PWR-CORE.zip
For Odin Flash: http://dorimanx.shine.sk/kernels-jb-new-mali-cm/Kernel_Dorimanx-V9.43-[12-16]-[24-10]-TAR-FOR-ODIN.tar

I also think it's a USB port issue. I am not very sure though. You know that the charging process must be done through the USB port. If you have a damaged one, it will surely affect your charging and thus your battery.
If you have charging problems, then it is surely a USB port fault.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Right... so what now?
Ok, so what do we know so far?
The USB port could be broken or about to break
The Kernel might help in reducing the drain
The motherboard could be fried
The charger might as well just be a d**k
The phone might not be charging the battery completely
the battery might not be calibrated
And what have i tried so far:
I have not replaced the usb port yet
I did change to Dorimanx, Yes, I noticed less Batt drain (What CPU and I/O Settings you guys recomend?)
I don't think it's fried... I mean, the phone works incredibly good and fast
I might as well buy a new charger... but i'm not made of money. meh, i'll try that tomorrow
True, i think it isn't
Wrong, i've calibrated it like 3 times now.

[Q] [polemic question]

Thanks to all developers for all The hard work to this comunity.
i think we all lile to come here and see a New Rom.
But in The end what is The diference from all of The roms here ?
No bugs or less bugs ?
More colours or less colours ?
I just want a stable rom with 24 hours of battery...but battery that let me use the SG2,,,use push mail , use GPS with acuracy , surf in The web ....
The iOS 4 let me do this...
I tried almost of The roms here...cant get more than 12 hours...diferent kernels...
I dont want set CPU , juice defender etc,,,i want a device that i dont want to think if i surf On The web ...i dont have battery for tonight.
I think The developers do a lota of effort..i think The sg2 is not good enough...
I bought 3 batterys ... All The same , waiting for The 2000mhn from Samsung ...last hope ...or i Will be back to iPhone .
Any advice On a good cobination / rom and kernel ?
Btw : The quality of The housing of The sg2 is poor..
Thanks for you advices , and thnks to all developers .
Cognition and ninphetamine
My SGS2 has better battery life than my iPhone. The only bad thing about the casing is the battery cover...that's the trade-off of having a removable battery. Sounds like you're using your battery wrong.

What you mean wrong ?
What rom and kernel are you using ?
Best
Galinha, there must be something wrong with your setup. On an iPhone 4 I was getting 7-8 hours of battery life. SGS2 lasts me a day at least. I'm using stock ROM and kernel.

Lol it was just a joke (remember iPhone-you're holding it wrong?).
I'm using cognition and ninphetamine. I took my phone off charge about 15 hours ago and my battery is at 73%. Made a few phone calls, sent a few messages, played wordfeud, used opera and some random stuff playing around in the phone. I suspect there might be something wrong with your phone or there's an app that isn't running correctly. Why don't you back up your photos etc and try a reset?
Definitely something is not right because for me the GS2 has the best battery life out of all the smartphones I've used!

Whats the matter
Maybe dont matter to you but i spent 600 euros in a device that after 12 hours is dead....without bat , no matter rom or kernel i use...
Realy in terms of battery all cooked roms are equal...The rom and kernel that Will make The difference Will be The one that is really battery friendly ...
Mate my phone is the best for me. i was like you wondering what im doing wrong and i got **** battery. but i read about it and chopped and changed kernels till i found the best one for me. now i can use my phone for a day or two without charging it
I am coming from an SGS and have just snapped up an SGS2, both of which I am very happy with. I am a heavy smartphone user, I can't do without them because they have made my life easier and more enjoyable in a number of ways.
There often are occasions when I would never make a full day on a single charge, on *any* smartphone. Now, one of the iPhones' several showstoppers for which I could NEVER buy one and for which I think it's an absolute POS and it's really for people who do not need smartphones, is their non-removable battery! The SGS2 has a removable one so I can't understand all the talk about having to worry and limiting oneself in using one's smartphone!!
An original Samsung battery for the SGS and SGS2 costs around € 18 here in Italy and an original desktop charger is about € 20. I had 3 1500mah batteries for the SGS and have 4 1650 ones for the SGS2. However long I am out and about I NEVER run out of juice and however many batteries I use in any given day I just charge them once I am at home! What's easier and simpler than that????
Even when I have just used a single battery and still have some charge left by the end of the day I NEVER plug in my phone at night, I put it in airplane mode and keep it handy on the nightstand to use as an alarmclock and to quickly check whatever I may need after I go to bed (an appointment, a note, something on the net etc etc). Once the battery runs out (during the next morning or whenever) I switch batteries and charge the depleted one when I am back home. So even if you can make a whole day on a single charge having at least 2 batteries and a desktop charger which can charge your battery alone, you would never have to keep your phone on the leash of the powercord and limiting your freedom in using it!
Lighten up guys..
if you want a guide on the rom that you are using and how to get the best out of it follow the link below and hopefully that will help you out

reflash the RUU at 100% battery, and see if you still have problems
I'd rather get a powerskin with an external battery that I can choose to use or not(or remove)... but the powerskin won't be as efficient as you need to convert from 4.2V->5V(USB) back to 4.2V

How I am using my phone is like this, pick up off charger phone has full charge, go to work, listen to music from phone, once I arrive at work I put it into airplane mode (this I believe kill's all the radio's ) then use the phone as an mp3 player every once and a while waking up the screen to pause etc. the battery is the original that came with the phone I got this phone like on the 2nd day it was available from T mobile. I am sure the battery by now should be suffering from constant use. I have the full version of juice defender and I have that killing everything I can think of to save power.
I can't remember the name of the ics rom I have on it now but I did install the new graphics driver as well. the phone is rooted ,s-off and has super cid.
I am waiting for a newer stable ics rom with jellybean hopefully with a kernel that I can play around with under clocking.
With my current financial situation i can't afford to make a mistake on this purchase so I am being extra paranoid about checking all my options, thank you for your suggestion.
Haven't used that particular battery, but used mugen with g2 and didn't notice much of a difference. It was 1800 instead of 1200

hello mate! i would suggest getting rid of sense as much as possible there are about at least 3 senseless roms out there,or at least the launcher, it uses to much resource with all the pretty animations and widgets! but there is something wrong with you phone somehow, i get up in the morning around 8 and go to work with my phone fully charged, listen music in the car for about 40 mnts until i get to work! after things settle down i watch at least 3 50 minutes video on netflix, youtube, play listen to music again, i'm on fb, instagram, skype chatting with some friends outside the country, texting and a little more, back to listen to music on my way back home, by 6 o'clock i'm with 30% or so! i'm running energy stock look rom, tweaked with ultrasmooth rosie, and the only widget i have running is the clock and music with 3 home screens! good luck

if you really can, try to reflash the RUU(charge your phone to 100% first).... this resets your phone entirely (radio, ROM, kernel)
I had that battery problem when I got my phone from someone else: less than 8 hours of uptime even without much screen-on use... I installed the Energy ROM and faux kernel, didn't fix it
now, after reflashing RUU, then installing Energy ROM and faux, my battery is better than before... 15 hours uptime with 1-2 hours use...
if I don't use it and keep it on standby-idle, i'm sure it,ll stretch more than 2 days
(55%, only about 15 minutes of screen-on use, data on, autosync on)

Just buy this http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1900mAh...345472451&sr=1-3&keywords=1900mah+anker+amaze
2 1900 mah batteries with an external charger, charge the spare and your phone every night, put the spare in when the battery dies.. MOST of us have these batteries, they are a little higher capacity than stock- the ONLY issue I have read and experienced, the first 10% goes quickly.. but overall it always outlasts the stock battery.
Plus, that is $30 for those batteries, rather than $100 for the one you posted.
Plus stalk the posts I make, I've posted plenty of ways to increase battery life.. and if you can figure out what paperwastage was saying(hint:look at the bible posted in my signature for EVERYTHING you need to know), it will make a big difference. Plus, if you are in airplane mode while at work and have big drain, that means some app is running rampant in the background, keeping your phone from "deep sleep". Get an app called betterbatterystats(paid on market, free if you find it on XDA, but worth the money) and after a days use(BEFORE you plug in or switch batteries), look at the top apps listed when you select "partial wakelock" and "since unplugged"- whatever the top apps are are the ones keeping your phone awake all the time.. either change the settings of those apps, or remove them if you don't NEED them as that means they are poorly written.
Without getting super technical and by stalking my threads, the bible in my signature, and using betterbatterystats, you MAY not need new batteries anyways.. but having a spare fully charged battery gives you a freedom that you really deserve anyways.
You can buy extended batteries and multiples of them with a charger. You can also buy external battery packs/chargers (amazon search for Anker Astro). They are a bulkier solution but versatile as in they can charge almost anything that takes a usb plug.

[Q] battery leakage?

Hello guys,
As the title says, I too am running into some battery trouble (shocker, I know). I'd like to point out that first I did my research in the HOW+ forums + faqs. So, here's the situation:
Today with 80% of battery i played sonic dash for 45min. After that It shows 40% left. I shut down the phone. Put it in the freezer for 5mins (why not?) then turned it on again. Then it shows less than 16% at startup.
Two weeks earlier i used Navigon gps for 1hour on a full battery, after that i had 50% left. Restarted the phone and it showed 40% and afterwards started going down fast as hell in 1 hour without me turning the screen on. Seriously, at the end I had the 4 low battery alerts in a quick row (14%, 9%, 3%, 1% and then shutdown in 5-10minutes).
I bought the phone in march and used it heavily at first. I was all about thd games (which all push the phone to its limits) + occasional big downloads + uzipping heavy files. Then later i calmed down and mostly used the phone in the evenings before sleep: loads of browsing + youtube + emulators (which, all three combined, don't drain the battery that much even after a long time).
The phone has been rooted for 1 month. I'm still on stock rom. I greenified most of the processes (like every apps and games except viber, tango, whats app skype, line, twitter, facebook, vine) and froze (with titanium backup) google+, gmail, chrome, htc tips, play books, play movies, play kioske, play music, htc tips, htc watch.
Here is my question : do you guys think i should try some battery recalibrating or should replacing the battery do the trick? Or maybe there's nothing to do and the one x+ is just doomed in that area.
In one month I am going to Japan for a couple of weeks and I'll be needing a lot of my HOX+ so I sure wouldn't want to spend money on a new phone (with the next gen devices right around the corner) or on a pricey mugen external juice case. Any piece of advice or info is welcome.
Thanks in advance for your time guys.

Danke.
So you say you had the battery replaced. May I ask if you did see a significant difference once the new battery was installed? Also im curious, after how many months did you replace it and how heavy were you using your phone before?
Again, thank you, much appreciated.
I've had similar issues with my battery. It has definitely gotten worse as time goes by. I did however just get a response from HTC about what to do about the quick battery drain when my phone hits 15%.
This is what they said:
I apologize for this behavior that you are having with the battery on your HTC One X+. The culprit in this situation is not the battery, it is the charging logic. Therefore, I advise you to recalibrate the battery/charging logic with the following steps:
1. Charge the device for at least 10 minutes
2. With the device truly OFF while still being plugged into the wall outlet, push in and hold volume up and volume down AND power button, for 2 minutes.
3. Let go. Device will boot up, and battery/charging logic are re-calibrated.

I cannot test this as the current ROM I have can only do a soft reboot, thus I cannot shutoff my device. Hope it helps at least a little.

Thank you, I will try this method and report.
Rapid drain from 15% -> happens most of the times to EVERYONE, its not individual phone problem..
So unless HTC's calibration method doesn't help just need learn to live with it :/

I suffer a lot from this issue (rapid drain from 15%->0%).
I think the battery capacity is measured/reported wrongly by the OS, because battery stats app measures the battery at 1832mAh (fully charged), not 2100 which is supposed to be...

I had this problem and I left the phone at the service for a warranty change of the battery.
They've changed it and I must admit that the problem has been resolved. I can now see how the battery drains step by step: 15, 14, 13, 12, 11 etc. It does seem to last a bit more now, maybe half an hour.

I shattered my phone screen, and send it to service, and i told them about battery problem, now they replaced battery, and earpiece speaker as i had low volume, will see how it works after i get it back in 3 days.
The battery bug was introduced in the only update for HOX+, everything was fine before the update. It starts mostly after a few days without a reboot. One time I've had theoretically more than 40% battery level, while in the next hour my phone wouldn't even start because of empty battery. Recently I was goofing around with Tasker. When the battery level showed 20%, my phone shutdown.
Did anyone test the recalibrate thing? Can someone explain me how am I supposed to hold 3 buttons for 2 minutes ?
So got my hox+ from HTC back now, with battery replaced, and now its working properly, listening music since 14% -> 1% for like 45 mins and turning screen here and there to change track, and phone turned OFF after being few minute on 1%.
Not to mention battery lasts about 20-30% longer now, hope it holds like this

Thanks for the info!!
Did you relock the bootloader/return to stock before sending it in, if it was unlocked?
And did the relocked bootloader raise any issues with the warranty?

Hi everyone,
I have exactly the same problems that what has been told before... (Very bad battery life, specially when I'm using 3G data... and when the battery is under 20%, the phone stops completly only few minutes after...)
(My HOX+ is on ViperX+ but before I flashed this rom the problem was the same...)
I tried to do a recalibration of the battery but it didn't solved the problem...
I also tried the HTC instructions listed on the topic before, but it absolutly changed nothing.
My HOX+ is still on waranty but I ordered a new battery to change it by myself (I don't want to change the rom and relock the phone to send it on warranty, I prefer to do it by myself...), and the battery (annonced as genuine) cost about 26€ on Ebay delivered ($35 approximatly)...
I will come back here to tell you if it solved the problem!

Let's talk about this in the next month...
Small update about this.
I contacted HTC support and told them about this bug. Of course one of a consultant's suggestion was "factory reset" and "repair it", as always . But he suggested to wipe android cache via recovery. I did this 10 days ago with no hope this will help, but so far it is working. It seems as if the battery percentage goes quicker up when charging and the level shows now correct values. I will wait one or two more weeks to see if this really solved the issue. So far, it might have been simply luck .
I asked HTC's consultant also about the "hold three buttons while charging to calibrate battery" trick. He said that this trick is not present in their fix database. Weird.
I found this trick on another android website
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...g-red-while-charging-rapid-battery-drain.html
It looks as if it is not a safe solution?

First, based on my usage over the past 3 days, I don't know how that would be even remotely possible. Right now, I have all of that turned off, and my battery is dying just sitting there laying dormant....never saw that before, even with something as small as an iphone 4.
Second, I think you actually proved my point when you said you have to use 2 batteries. I've had iphones and an galaxy note 3 and s5 before and it was never an issue before that I even had to think about having a second battery. I used to read reviews of people saying that a benefit of a samsung over and iphone was the removable battery....while it's true that the battery might be removable, with the iphone you don't need to.
You should not exaggerate, sure this is not the phone if you're a really heavy user.
But I'm using it with everything ON, and never had a problem with it, I'm charging it every night.
But if you do have battery issues, you can buy yourself the 2500mah extended battery.
http://blog.gsmarena.com/apple-iphone-6-battery-life-test/
http://blog.gsmarena.com/samsung-galaxy-alpha-exynos-5430-battery-test/
I am a heavy user and average about 4 hours of SOT with LTE Web Browsing and about 30 minutes of calls BUT I will probably get the 2500 Mah Battery ..
Also there may be a 20 -25% difference between Qualcomm and Exynos Versions with Exynos better ( wild guess on my part on %).
Still coming from a Note 3 , Alpha could be a shock.
Should have been 8mm thick with 2700 Mah
Battery and Ram and Camera and SD like Note 4....THEN Alpha would not be discontinued...lol.
I think you have somehow faulty phone, because this phone has awesome standby time, even with nfc/wifi/GPS on. And it can even survive 30mins of talking with just 3% of battery. Usually the battery in my alpha and in some other alphas survives 12+h with wifi/nfc on and with 3-4h SOT.
Sounds like the phone or battery is messed up. Just replaced battery. If it still doesn't fix, contact carrier

I've had my Alpha for a week now (Exynos version) and I'm disappointed in the battery as well. I bought it for music playback and I took a six hour drive over the weekend with it functioning in airplane mode streaming music through the headphone jack. That was it. It was down to 9% at the end of my drive. Call me crazy, but that's unacceptable for it not being connected to ANY network. It was just playing music and an audiobook located on the device. Is this normal? I can return it, but I love the form factor and the audio quality is second to none, so I will probably just live with it.

There is an extended battery that you can get if you need some extra juice.

Yes, I would love to. Please let me know how to do that. I will also try to look it up, but I haven't used android in a while so it's all new to me again.
Incidentally, I continue to be dissatisfied with the battery compared to my past iphones. I have everything turned off, e.g., NFC, bluetooth, etc. And, I hardly have any apps installed.

@ skirush, you either have a bad phone or an app that is draining your battery in the background. And don't blame the "pathetic" battery. I'm getting 70 minutes of screen time when my battery drains to 20%. Also, I am not using the power save modes.
Did you buy your phone new? It is very odd that you are not getting better performance from your Alpha.
I'm not really sure what to do. I'm pretty pissed about this whole thing. I went out on a limb and bought it new online. Once I got the phone, I confirmed with both AT&T and Samsung that the phone was legit and both said yes. In fact, Samsung even said that the phone is covered under warranty. So, instead of returning it (due to the poor battery life) I kept it. Now, I might be too late to return it to the company I bought it from. It's been over their 14 day return policy.
I have had the feeling that its messed up ever since I first got it, but I decided to stick with it since samsung said it was legit. Now, I'm regretting it.
thumbs down for Samsung support
I called Samsung tech support/customer service. Get this, they are willing to replace the battery...IF, I first send them my battery that's currently in my phone. That's just not possible. Like most people, I have one cell phone with one battery. I don't have a landline phone. So, I don't have spare batteries just lying around to use in the mean time.
That's bs from my perspective. I've had replacements on phones sent to me before. For example, ATT sent me a replacement Note 3 and they took my credit card info on file. After I returned the old unit back to them they release a hold in the amount of the phone.
Not sure why samsung is unwilling to do this. Seems ridiculous to expect someone to send them a battery for their phone, thus rendering it useless. And who knows how long it would take them to send a new one back to me. Could be a total 2 weeks without a phone between me mailing them the old battery and them sending me a new one. Who can do that?
a battery costs about 10$ and for longer trips you may need a second one. So why don't you buy an second one and send the battery from the phone to Samsung?

I am an ATT user so I did have the 850A version with the snapdragon and I did notice that the battery life was pretty bad, but not as bad as you illustrate - and yes this phone gets nowhere near the life as the IPhone6 (my wife has one too).

I totally agree with this. The NFC chip on this phone kills the battery. I dropped from 100 to 65 % in 4 hours with the phone in standby. I turned off NFC and 3 hours later it only dropped another 6%

I had a DLNA app in the background running (just the service) and it too drained the battery as it was constantly trying to find DLNA ready devices.
Bottom line: Either you have a defective battery/phone or you have a consumer that you have not discovered yet.
BTW I switched to the 850M with the samsung chip just because I get the rooting support that the A version will propably never get. Plus the phone outright is cheaper.

Sucks that Samsung is making you jump through these hoops. I would check with the retailer you bought it from if you can exchange it. If not, file a claim with your credit card. Good luck

Nvidia shield tablet fireproof battery

So ive been searching around for a couple of days for the best battery replacement for the old shield tablet, but every battery people find are third party ones, that are untested, and ive got too much stuff in my home to risk getting them all get destroyed just because i bought a bad battery.
So, since i cant buy batteries directly from nvidia, i have tried finding other tablets whos batteries have about the same specs, but so far the only battery ive found that fits is the Nexus 7 battery, which only has 4000 Mah.
Can anyone help me find the best first party battery that fits the shield tablet?
here are the specs i found for the shield battery
size: 75 * 155 * 4 mm
specs: 5200 MaH 3.8 V 19.7 WH
The size isnt that important, just as long as its smaller than the original size
I will try to post updates if i find a better battery, but please help me if you can
Great news!
So, apparently the samsung galaxy tab S8.4 fits our description, mostely.
www . subtel.se / index.php?cl=details&lang=7&anid=919293&cnid=cd01dbd98b61dbccebe8eb11f0ce251d&campaign=se-pla/Akku/919293/
(sorry, i cant post links yet, so you will have to remove the spaces, but unless you live close to sweden, you shouldnt buy it from my link)
BUT dont buy the battery yet, even though the specs seem to match, we still need to see if the size is correct, but thats the problem, i cant find any info about the battery size, and thats why i posted it here.
If anyone on this forum owns this device, then please can you post the size of the battery (W * L * H) so that we can finally can get a fireproof battery
Even if noone owns this device, i will still try to find other alternatives, but i have to say, im really running out of alternatives after looking at most of the best 9 and 8 inch tablets
samsung galaxy tab S8.4 specs

Hi. I'm also looking for a replacement battery for my Shield tablet.

This looks perfect:
www . allbatteries . co.uk / tablet-battery-3-8v-5100mah-tml90080.html
- but it does not seem like they ship to either Norway or Sweden.
But they have the following comment: "A difference of a few tenths of a volt is negligible and is dependent on the type of cell used to manufacture the battery (3.6V or 3.7V). This difference does not in any way change the battery's intrinsic characteristics."
- So I guess it should be all right to try a 3.7v battery.

That component is a breaker to kill the circuit if it gets too hot. Let us know how the battery life is, I used a cheap 4000mAh and it's worse than I thought it would be.

I used a soldering iron to remove the board that came with the Aliexpress-battery.
I didn't remove any of the 4 wires from the tablet. I cut the two metal strips connecting the charging controller to the original battery. Then I soldered the Aliexpress-battery on to the original charging controller. Important to put plastic tape around the controller and battery terminals, to prevent short circuit.
Use a voltmeter to ensure you connect the polarity right. And remember to discharge yourself before and while doing this job! Static electricity will kill your tablet!

Here is an update about battery life, after the first day.
I have to say, it's looking pretty ok. But I will wait with the conclusion until I have done a side-by-side comparison with the replacement tablet.
I fully charged and used the tablet today. I'm not a gamer, so it's mainly the screen that draws the juice...
When the tablet turned off because of low battery, it had been on for almost 10 hours, and the screen had been on for about 5 hours and 20 minutes. I have had the screen on about 55% brightness all day.

I hope to do a side-by-side comparison tomorrow...

Ok.
Today I made a side-by-side comparison of an original tablet and the one with Aliexpress-battery.
I fully charged both, and streamed a movie in loop, with screen brightness 100%.
The one with Aliexpress-battery gave up in about 2 hours.
The original one displays 54% battery level, and estimates another 2 hours to go.
Then we have to conclude that the Aliexpress-battery has about 50% capacity compared to the original one.
So I guess the choice is between a battery with half the capacity, or a battery that may burn down your house.
Maybe some other battery with the right dimensions will show up sometime. Meanwhile I will use the cheap battery that hopefully won't catch fire...
Regards
If you're really aiming for a good battery with accurate specs, I advise you to consider getting a Nexus 7(2012) battery.

I've been using it in my recall tablet for quite some time now and it's just working great. It fits great inside and charges and holds charge as it should. The capacity is only 4325mah but that's an accurate number and not a false claim as other chinese replacements. I use both tablets actively and I can only tell very little difference in terms of battery life, maybe half an hour give or take. And it's super cheap now!
You obviously will have to cut the connector part and connect the red and black cables each into a single cable and connect them to the former protection circuit. And you won't even have to remove the existing protection circuit from this battery long as you only use the black and red cables. It will charge and work perfectly as the old battery and I've yet to have any issues regarding heating and percentage.
Any questions asked, I'll gladly help, but recall that I don't take responsibility for any damage caused to your tablet.
Enjoy!

Had a dead N7 so I did the same thing. Had a cheap "4000" mAh in before and it had awful battery life. At leas now I know I have a decent quality battery in it and can still close up the back.
Messed up any way to fix it
So I messed up when replacing the battery. I did not know that I had to have the original board from the original battery. I disposed of the old battery already (I Should always save them I don't know why I didnt this time) and so long story short I need a way to use the new battery without desoldering the board from the original battery and putting it on the new one. Does anyone have any ideas. Also if anyone has an original battery with the board or has a broken tablet with the original battery I will be willing to buy it from them.
Hi,
So you stripped the red wires from the connector, joined them together into a single connection... then did the same thing for the black wires? The yellow & white wires aren't used?
Thanks
