Hey!
I hoped that I won't need to write here about this, but i encountered a problem when rooting my HTC. The problem is when I want to load into 4ext or cmw, it just dosen't load. It starts then "dies out" and boots up normally. Unitl now i followed this steeps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813818), even though I have GSM shooter_u edition. I also tried this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Qx18x4uM4) but without success.
Please help!
So are you unlocked?
Did the recovery flash successfully?
Does it actually turn itself off?
Are you typing an adb command, or using the bootloader menu?

Yes I unlocked it easily, I'll upload video so that you'll see exactly what I did and what happens. And also recently adb has also started somehow chrasing as you'll see and all files are from previous xda post which I linked.
And since I didn't post 10 posts, I cant publish links outside of this forum, so you'll have to delete few spaces in this link. youtu be/cmZ359uLCA8
Come on some one must know why is this not working! So what happens with my phone (if you dont want to watch video, because you think it is spam). I paste in following commands "adb push recovery.img /sdcard/" (it works, every thing is done in about 3.75 sec), then "adb reboot bootloader" (dose work) and then I enter "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", does everything fine but when I revoer it, it starts loading, but the after 10 sec screen just goes black and it reboots again in android.
I don't understand why you're pushing to your sd card. When I flash recovery it is in SDK-tools folder, not on sd card

It's GSM, I pushed it to sd card because it was in instructions.
Ok, how about a link to the instructions you ar using.
What folder are you using for adb
If your Rom still boots, you could try flash image GUI
Try a different recovery, check md5
Run ruu if none of that workd

I got my Evo 3d off Craigslist this morning and i love it. Traded my Evo 4g plus cash for it and i couldnt be happier. I was very successful in rooting the 4g amd never had any problems that i can think of and im hoping the same goes for the 3d.
Anyways ive been reading and reading on how to root it, get s-off so i can install a recovery and them flash a rom and kernel. Ive managed to confuse myself because it seems that if you root it one way, you may not be able tp fash custom kernels and if you use another method to root it, your more than like to have all sorts of problems.
Basicall i need help and if someone could post a link to show me best method on how to root, s-off, install custom recovery, and install a rom on the 3d it would be greatly appreciated.

I ended up goin a different route by using the HTC unlcock bootloader and that was suscessful. I still have s on and I think I'm gonna keep it that way for now but I need to install a custom recovery.
I've tried setting up sdk all morning and can't get the cmd to recognize adbas an interal or external command. Not sure what exactly it is that in doing wrong.
I wanting to know if there'sa way to install my first custom recovery thru the bootloader in my phone without using my computer so I can flash the su.zip and get this thing rooted. Thanks

The twrp recovery has a method to flash that recovery without a computer by downloading it as a zip and naming it properly. See their site for detail.
I still recommend s-off since it is easier to flash Roms and the ics Roms tend to bootloop with s-on.

It looks like you renamed it to the wrong thing. If you downloaded TWRP 2.2.0 zip, it must be renamed PG86IMG.zip on the root of the sd card. Then when you update in bootloader, it should work.

Hmmm... Does your phone boot? If so, you could download 4ext (see my signature) and install their app. Then it will push the custom recovery for you. I use 4ext myself anyway.

Once thaat was fixed, I installed twrp recovery and flashed Su.then did the wire trick which me VERY nervous but it worked and got S-Off after a couple tries and I then installed 4ext recovery from which I understand is the best recovery available. Your welcome. Glad you figured it out. I personally have never had an issue with the 4ext recovery.
Hi
I have a Legend and i have made it S-OFF with htc-dev
now i am trying have it rooted and flash cwm onto it.
when i boot into HBOOT with power + vol- and plugin the usb cable and enters the adb like this:
Code:
C:\legend>adb reboot bootloader
error: device not found
C:\legend>fastboot devices
SH0BTNX04748 fastboot
C:\legend>fastboot flash recovery.img
unknown partition 'recovery.img'
error: cannot determine image filename for 'recovery.img'
C:\legend>
I have tried a number of the guides here and other places on the net, but cant get it rooted or flash cwm.
I am suspecting some error on the Legend, because i cannot even flash the latest update for it:
RUU_Legend_Froyo_S_HTC_WWE_3.15.405.6_Radio_47.51.35.17_7.13.35.05_release_222317_signed.exe

You obviously did not fully read the flashing instructions correctly, the flashing command you typed into your post is not compleat or correct.
Hint:-
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or
Adb shell flash_image recovery recovery.img

So I tried the fake-flash but as the picture shows it doesnt work either.

I more and more believe that it is going to be retired. I just hoped I could try ICS or JB on it, like I use on my Desire and Sensation.
As noted by me and others in many many threads regarding hboot 1.02 you can't use fake flash you must do the s-off method of clockwork mod recovery.
Do the s-off flashy thing, then you can boot into clockworkmod recovery

I am s-on and trying to flash Tron. I am currently on Rage 1.8.
I don't mind flashing the boot.img through hboot at all. However, I can not get the image to flash to the phone. I had this problem before when flashing Rage. The phone just decided to take the boot image so I don't know what I did differently to get it to work.
I used Scott's CleanFlash and that wouldn't work. I try command prompt that wouldn't work.
Any ideas what is keeping the boot image from flashing? Thank you in advance.

You should be able to flash a boot.img by booting your phone to bootloader.
Then on your pc, navigate so that the command prompt is where you have your adb stuff set up. Have the boot.img file in there too, and then type the following in the command window:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Should flash.

Yeah, I double checked that. I few times actually. I am gonna try to change USB ports to see that works. It fixed this issue for someone else.
This may sound dumb, what is the difference in the firmware and radios? I mean, I am sure there is a big difference, but what, other than the radios, are included in the firmware? I have the .310r and .308r radios.

Failed remote not allowed is usually because you have a locked hboot, sounds like you updated firmware and hboot but didn't unlock the new hboot.
You might as well drop the global RUU on your external sdcard and boot to hboot and flash it, then unlock and flash recovery.
Yes it makes a huge difference. In an s on device you update the RUU which is the rom, kernel, bootloader and recovery and radio and modem firmware ans drivers. It also changes some things like mount points.

Is this the global RUU?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
Just wanting to double check before going through all of it. Also, if my hboot IS locked, I should be able to just run it and not have to "fastboot OEM lock" will I?
Also, I saw where it said you will lose data. Is that internal or both?
Sent from my Rezound using xda app-developers app
That's the correct link.
You're right if your hboot is locked you shouldn't have to fastboot OEM lock. You should just be able to place it on your ext_sdcard and then boot the phone to hboot and it will ask you to run update.
Only the internal storage should be wiped, ext sdcard shouldn't but I always recommend copying both internal and external storage to a folder on the computer just in case. Also make sure your contacts are synced, and anything else backed up from the system itself.

I imagine doing a nandroid backup internal and external on a spare sdcard would work. Hopefully I will be able to get it all working tonight.
After I run the RUU, I will have to use my unlock token-> flash amon ra-> then flash ROM. Correct? Sorry for all the questions. I don't have internet at my house so I want to make sure I am prepared.

Lol. I said to preform a wipe, install the Rom, fastboot the boot.img, and restart the phone.
Not sure why you did anything with a token and you don't need to keep flashing recovery. No clue what the other thing is that you're flashing. And you're going to want a much later version of TWRP. Preferably 2.3.3.0+.
So I'll run through this again even though there are guides to all of this.
1. Wipe Cache, Cache/Delvik, Data, and System.
2. Install your ROM.
3. fastboot flash boot boot.img (that's a ROM kernel).
4. Restart your phone.

You need to elaborate on nothing "responding." If touchscreen doesn't work then you need to downgrade using babyracun and S-OFF.

Like delakit said, you must have the 3.16 firmware with the new touch panel. Meaning, you can only use 3.16 based sense ROMs. If you get S-off, you can downgrade your firmware and use any ROM you like.

You cannot flash ANY CM/AOSP/AOKP roms if you are on the latest OTA which you are. The touch panel will not work.
So if I update twrp2.5 to 2.6 using bootloader method after I do install it isn't going to let be boot phone only to bootloader correct? Because of the img file I will put on SD card. So before I do this I just want to make sure all I do after update is complete pull SD card an then boot to rom re install SD card an delete?? Or is there a easier way
S-off dirty 2.09
Latest everything besides touch panel

You can reboot your phone once you're done and delete the file with a file manager. The only issue you'll have is if you reboot the bootloader.

So after update is completed just reboot phone bootloader then delete file before I go back to boot loader. Really I delete right away in case I have to recover to boot loader to access recovery correct. Thanks for quick response too'

Why not use GooManager? It will correctly install the Recovery Image for you. I can see that you want to push it via command but GooManager is excellent. Just another option, good luck. :good:
