This morning I was transferring a couple files from my computer to my phone sd card via usb, something I've done a million times. All of a sudden I heard that sound the computer makes when you disconnect via usb and my screen went black. So I disconnected the usb cable and pushed the power button to wake it. No dice. So I held the power button in like I was turning it on. No response. I let it sit for a while, still nothing. I can't boot into recovery or anything. It's like the phone has no power what so ever. The phone had a full charge, so the battery is not dead. When I plug the phone into the charger, the indicator does not come on.
Any ideas? Am I bricked just from a transfer????

try PWR + VOL UP for 10 seconds. I once had this happened during a call. Fully charged nothing wrong with it and it just died on me.
I did the above and after several tries it just turned itself on, on its own. Don't loose hope!
Sounds like brick to me but just for hellvof it plug into pc and see if windows picks it up tell me what it says if it does

I tried the PWR + VOL UP several times, nothing. It's hard to describe the sounds my computer makes, but normally when I plug into usb it make a loud ding DING sound. When I plug the phone in now, it just makes a low pitched du du sound. But, it does make the normal sound when I unplug it.
When you plug into windows does it try to install QHSUSB_DLOAD driver?

An unfortunate problem with the very first batch was an issue where the phone would suddenly go onto a reboot and never come back on, it wasn't very common but enough of a problem for HTC to revise the hardware before selling any more of them. If you had an original it might explain why it suddenly happened, it happened in stock and custom. Nothing you could you could of done if it was an early model

I was @ work when I posted that response. What I wanted to add was the unbricker didn't work for me, mainly because I bricked my device downgrading firmware and the unbricker seems to be for specific brick related to lazypanda. AFAIK the unbricker will work if you bricked using lazypanda , as for phones bricked another way I don't think so.
Also my replacement came with 1.15 hboot . The sprint tech let me power up all the LTE's he had to check the boot loaders. No luck
Remember when we were on preorder someone posted an article about this phone being unbrickable. I haven't a lot of experience with android devices but it seems there are a considerable amount of bricks. Does anybody think this phone is bricking more or less than previous devices.

Where did you get that information? As far as i know all models have been hardware revision hw03.
From what I can tell the hardware id hasn't changed and I got the info from a sprint tech who received over 25 phones in a month with that exact issue and from people who can't figure out their voicemail much less unlock and root
Also plenty of phones with screen discoloration and a few with faulty proximity sensors

No I didn't. I thought the phone had to at least power up to do anything. It won't power on period. The computer doesn't recognize it when it's connected. Sprint couldn't even do anything with it.
I'm stuck guys!!! Installed jellybean stock and then went into recovery today and press wipe data and my daughter then shut it down accidently halfway through , it now only boots to splash screen, no recovery, pc won't recognise it, I can't do anything..... Any suggestions

Hold the powerbutton till it vibrates than hold the vol down button till you get the white text. Than volume up. Recovery... Install new Rom unless you have no recovery at all... Than use nvflash?

Nothing comes on the screen but a splash screen with Asus in the middle and "The device is unlocked" top right, I cannot believe from having a tablet that was running to now a tablet that cannot to my knowledge be fixed.... I'm so gutted.... Is there a jig or something so I can connect somehow to the tablets with a pc, my pc doesn't recognise it, I'm guessing I have a hard bricked Tablet here and bootloader is unlocked so Asus will just laugh at me and charge me more than its worth to fix it...... I'm sure this is gonna be a more and more popular problem as people updated to jellybean and may use the wipe in the stock recovery..... So a lesson here to you all that may do..... Don't use wipe in Stock jellybean if your battery is less than 40% its just not worth the risk.... If anybody had any ideas I would appreciate them. Thank you.

I have the same exact problem.... I can, however, get the computer to recgonize it through APX by resetting the prime holding the power button volume up. This puts it into APX mode. Unfortunately, I can't do a full system flash because I never backed up my NVFlash data....
I hit wipe data in the recovery screen as well and BAM. toast....

You need to do so through device manager. Choose Update Driver for the device, then "specific driver" (browse option) then "Have Disk" and point to the path you have the driver files. On newer windows OS's you should get a "Driver not signed" warning just click install. Voila, driver installed.
Of course the device needs to be plugged into the pc at the time....
But it doesn't even know it's connected, I've connected the usb to Asus prime and pc I've turned on prime and it's on slash screen but the pc isn't doing anything, and in device manager it doesn't show anything about my prime being connected

If you are unlocked and only have access to APX mode, but can't get to bootloader, and you have not installed NVFlash, the only option is to get a new motherboard and figure out how to install it which cost around 150$, or send it to Asus and have them repair it for like 160$+60$+10$, :/ sorry.

$160 - for the motherboard?
$60 - for the work?
$10 - for them to ship it back?
Total Cost $230 - crap on a stick, that's a lot....

A similar thing happened to me - installed JB, rebooted and stayed on the splash screen. Like you I hadn't installed NVFlash or anything. I didn't even have my serial number handy. Rma'd mine on the pretense I was going to pay to have it fixed. I thought I'd done enough research into all this, but I guess maybe not.
I used Moonshine to s-off my Droid DNA and everything worked as described no problem. I then installed CWM and made a backup. I then went to install Viper on the phone using this guide.
I got to step 2 in this part of the process:
*WARNING* Although you don't have to, but if you do choose to use the recommended Step 3 which is found below, it will wipe all of your games and apps including saved game data and such. Don't worry all of your photos and music will be fine. Make sure to sync your contacts with your Google account**
1. Scroll down to -advanced and hit power, then do as follows
- wipe dalvik cache
-***go back***
2. Scroll down to -mounts and storage and hit power then:
-format system
-press your back key on the phone to go back
3. Scroll down to -wipe data/factory reset and hit the power button
"you can skip this process but it is a highly recommended one if you want less bugs in the ROM" (If you decide to skip make sure you you also -wipe cache partition which is in the same menu)

I was ready to do step 3 when I saw the warning above about syncing my contacts with my Google acount. This is where I did something really stupid. I rebooted the phone so I could sync those contacts. I thought I was alright because I had a backup if something went wrong.
However now my phone is stuck on the white HTC screen. I've tried to get into the bootloader to restore my backup by holding down the vol-down and power buttons, but it just goes back to the same white HTC screen.
Am I totally screwed here?
I had that problem once ,first how much battery did you have before maybe want to charge to full. Then hold power till lights flash and turns clear off. Then try power volume, it worked for me. Good luck

Is it this one? If not, can you tell me the title or give a link?
Thanks so much for your help!
EDIT: I downloaded the toolkit from the link I posted above, and tried everything in the kit. However they all resulted in a "device not found". Can anyone advise me? Is my phone bricked? If so, is there any recourse other than buying a new phone for $600?
Thanks for any light anyone can shed. It's much appreciated.

Thanks for pointing me to that thread, Ryan. I tried their advised solution, with no luck.
The problem is I can't get into CWM on my phone at all, just the white HTC screen, nothing else. And when I try "adb devices" the device isn't found. When I plug the phone in the computer tries to install a driver (and fails).
I did find this though, so if it's unfixable by me with help from you guys, at least there's hope.

I dont think its bricked. If your computer is seeing it then something is working on the phone its just not showing up. I have had that problem before with cm10 it would stick at the animation screen and then after awhile my computer would see it.
Honestly i think its just a matter of finding the right thing to get it to go. I had to let my phone completely die before it would do anything. So you may try that before spending $60.
Good luck
I dont think your phone is bricked either, if it turns on that usually means there's still hope. However I think zarboz offers a free JTAG for XDA members if worse comes to worse.
I would recommend going on the irc and getting some live help.
Honestly I would turn it off for a while, then just keep trying and keep trying to get into fast boot. Can you still turn the phone off and get it to charge? You can also try plugging it into your charger, turning it on and off, unplugging it, turning it on and off, etc. I know that sounds weird but I've had weird situations like this with a few devices sometimes that type of just screwing around would eventually get it to work.

Thanks for the help guys. I let the phone drain out last night, and I plugged it into the charger this morning. It does still charge, and I got it to start up. However, it goes to the same white HTC screen. As long as the phone has power, I can't even get it to stay off. The only way I can get it to turn off is to push both volume buttons and the power button at the same time and hold them down till the buttons flash. Then it will turn off, but a couple seconds later, it turns back on and goes to the white HTC screen. If I try to power off any other way--with just the power button or power button + vol-down button, the buttons will flash but it won't power off.
I even tried plugging the phone into every different USB port on my printer and executing "adb devices" and the phone never came up as a device. But my computer still tries (and fails) to install drivers when I plug the phone in, and HTC Sync loads and gives me the same error message.
I just had some limited success! I plugged the phone into my computer, and tried powering on again with power+vol-down, and the phone went into Fastboot. However, it's still not detected by "adb devices". What should I do?
Thanks for the help guys!
I guess you can't get to recovery in fastboot

If you got it into hboot(screen shows fastboot etc)then u r good. Fastboot uses fastboot not adb to flash things. First try going into fastboot at the hboot screen and hit power button on fastboot and recovery should.be there. Ifthat doesnt work then flash a new recovery. Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. then use fastboot menu as above to enter recovery. Fastboot devices to verify connection.
Thanks so much for all the help guys! I was able to get into Fastboot and restore my backup I'd made, so I'm back up and running. I'm really glad I didn't brick my phone! I was really worried there for a while!
So I'm on Houstonns 4.4 AOSP rom. I uninstalled busybox from within the app this morning and phone was functioning correctly all day. When connecting phone to computer my computer could see the phone in device manager but not actually do anything with it. I tried reinstalling the driver which did not fix the problem. I decided to reboot my phone. I powered it off, and it will not power back on now.
I've tried holding the power button for a very long time, power + vol+, power + vol-, power+ both vol and nothing seems to work. I've tried these options plugged into a walljack and into the USB port. Did I just officially brick my phone or does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks in advance.
Too add, I forgot that I uninstalled busybox until after my phone would not power on and I was trying to remember if anything had changed.
/e When phone is plugged into usb on computer and power button is held for about 20secs, the red light around the power button lights up for a moment and computer makes a sound like it's detected a new device being plugged in, then the red light around the button goes off and the computer plays the device disconnected sound.
Sounds like bricked! The boot is messed probably.

I haven't heard of anyone getting it to work, seems like it would have been big news if they had.

Hey Guys,
So recently I have been getting a random error where my phone runs into a black screen with something written on it (see the pic). But yesterday I was just watching a video on YouTube and the phone suddenly froze and again went to that screen. Normally I would do a Volume Down + Power Button restart, but now the phone is completely unresponsive. Nothing is showing up, I mean literally as if it is bricked. I have never made any changes to the firmware and I have never rooted my phone. Please help me, Most of you would tell me to go to customer service, but they would probably wipe the data, and my phone has some really important footage of my holidays. Can you suggest me anything that won't wipe my data?

Hi, for data I'm not sure but you can try this in order to go in to the Download mode and then Use Smart Switch to Flash your OS.
https://youtu.be/IRJ2CAgWKyc
I had this once... It's due to flashing a wrong rooting method.
Go to download mode and reflash the whole official rom again.
If you want to root you should flash twrp then flash a SuperSU package or magisk depending upon your preference and need.
I have never rooted my phone bro. I use Samsung Pay on a regular basis so I don't plan on rooting. Also I never flashed any custom rom to the phone.

Hello! Thanks a lot for this link. When I first faced this issue,I was like wtf am I the only one who is facing this issue? Then I opened your link and I found all sorts of videos showing the same problem as mine. So this is something related to bootloader eh? I wonder how i got into this situation as I have never rooted or flashed anything to my phone. But the sad part is that it looks like I will be loosing all my data. Damn. Had this phone for so long man. So sad.
Well then how did you brick your phone? There simply isn't any way you could brick it by just using it as Samsung phones aren't easily brickable.
Man i am literally telling. A few months back I got a screen replacement done to the phone because it was showing black bands on the screen. It was under warranty back then, But after I got the phone this bootloader exception started showing up.I shrugged it off like some random error.., But 2 days ago I was coming back from my vacation and was watching a YouTube video..Then suddenly the phone froze completely and became completely dead. As I write this comment,I received a call from the customer service and they are telling me that the motherboard needs to be replaced. It's gonna cost me more than 200 dollars (15,000 INR). Man **** Samsung. I ain't gonna do that replacement now,I can't spend any more on this phone. My mom has got a note8 last month and I am afraid of something similar happening to it too. I will use the S3 from which my mom transferred to the Note8 and hopefully would be able to save up to buy a one plus 5 or 3t.
Man the motherboard doesnt need to be replaced. They said the same thing to me. I went back home and I switched my phone to download mode after I downloaded the phone firmware again on my laptop then I used Odin to flash the firmware. My phone came back to normal but the only problem is you will lose your data.

OMG really? I knew there's no f**k**g way that the motherboard needs to be replaced. I will do the same. F**k the data,I need to get that phone up and running. But the problem is the phone doesn't respond to anything man,Volume Down +Power Button doesn't work or any of those combinations where you press certain buttons together.. I can't put it into download mode. Nothing works. You have any way to get the phone into download mode?

Can u Please Check for the integrity of your micro usb cable that you charge your phone with.
Try draining your phone then charging it.
In my case the same thing have happened, i wasnt able to get into download mode at first until i found out that my charge was depleted and i needed to charge and that my micro usb cable was broken (Samsung's official cable is ****) so then i used a unused note 4 charger with fast charging capabilities.

My friend , Samsung Company said that you need to replace mainboard ? You know what is there point, they don't make phone's perfect because if they make them perfect people will not by another phone , so may think is that they made phones to work for example 1 -2 or 3 years just for reason to put the same custumers to buy from them again phones and is not just Samsung Company , Apple also , Sony ,etc ... So you must to know that nothink is perfect.
That is not happening just to you here is my experience:
1. Samsung Galaxy S6 brend new was working fine few days until Update now the problem after update was burning+ghosting issue on LCD.
2. Samsung Galaxy S5 was bought new after I thing one or almost two year it come some problem with sound for example when I play some video on YT sound come normaly for few second as I remember and then is cutted , and also after update to new OS again that burning+ghosting issue on LCD.
3. My brother has bought brend new S7 Edge , and he use him I think maybe for one week and for no reason was totally stuck on home screen , can't turn Off , touch not response , no recovery , no response to any button . So I hold little bit more buttons and I think was Rebooted and after that was working fine .
4. Samsung Galaxy S6 Egde + also was bought new , after more than one and half year my son-in-law was talking on cell phone and for no reason the phone turns off completely , he tell be that he has enough power on battery but still he put the phone on charger , tried kombination with keys , nothing worked so he bring thee phone to some Service store and they say to him that mainboard is problem . So hi bring to me that phone to see if is battery dead and so , but battery was okay the mainbord has some problem (Dead bootloader) .
5. Iphone 6 Plus 128 GB used one and half year was old when I buyed for my brother , he use I think 2 or 3 months I'm not sure and the problem became that battery is drying very fast .
So the point of all this is better is to have one normal cell phone than 100 trash of new phones.

To put your phone in download mode you can try with Jig USB but I think that will not work on new devices.
Here is Jig USB how it looks like

I don't think my cable is faulty or something, but I would give it a try. Also when I place my phone on the Official Samsung Wireless charing pad,the blue light on the charger turns on telling that it's actually charging, but the phone doesn't respond to anything..it's just like a brick.

a quick scan with virustotal shows this https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/5...609f809a690b1b493eeda1eb9ccd1ed816a/detection
I personally would let people to decide what they want to do , basically lot of similar tools throws such security alerts due to adb root permissions which might be detected as threats
