H H+ only? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way of getting my i9300 to only look for H or H+ or even just H+ signal? Its just I am on a ****ty tesco network based on o2 and if it ever switches to G or E it basically does not work (useless)! And sometimes it gets stuck on G even in an area I know the H+ works and wont switch back unless I turn flight mode on and off! Thanks.

Activate WCDMA only. ( Option in Network Options )
This will bring you to 3G until HSPDA+ (3.75G)

The H and 3G are different date speed's.
All dependents from your operator, and the arise where you are.
The only way I get H is root my HD2 to android. If I'm with winmo I'm alway on 3G. This t-mobile btw.
i always get H on my hd2.

It also depends on the ROM's taskbar's icon pack. If the taskbar doesn't have "H", the user will never see "H".
go to settings/menu/all settings/ advanced connection/ enable hsdpa/hspa, if disabled
In case it's not obvious already H = HSDPA and is a faster transfer rate than 3G.
I find that as I go into a lower signal area I drop down to 3G then 'E' for edge and then to 'G' for two cups and a piece of string.
u get the H only when u got an active inet connection wich u are using RIGHT NOW. as soon as ur connection goes idle it switches back to 3G. this saves battery and doesnt stress ur provider
so if u are using a browser like opera wich is fullscreen, u will rarely see the H cause its only there when u are using the connection
EDIT: atleast its like that for me
I get H when i boot Android and then reboot it to Wimo.. but when i reboot the wimo, then it gets back to 3g..

3G/H+ Signal randomly dropping

I have UK SGS II and I am on the bell netowrk in Canada and I am finding that the 3G/H+ signal randomly drops and I lose connection every now and then. I am always in aread with strong reception as well. Any possible solutions?
Thank you
anyone have any ideas
?
I have the same but it doesn't drop anything, in area's where there is H+ coverage it will show H+ otherwise it just shows 3G.
Maybe you want to enable 3G only on your device so it won't switch between all the time.

I have the same problem here in Argentina. It seems that one of our local operators does not support the 3G/HSDPA of this phone (maybe because it is from europe ? ). Did you try to use the browser and surf the internet? I doesn't work here. Strange, because for 3G we use the 850Mhz spectrum.
What I noticed is that the 3G/H icon at the top is constantly changing from 3G to H and viceversa, even if I stay in the same location...

How to switch to EDGE only mode?

Hi!
Is there a way to turn off 4G & 3G? I would like to use it in EDGE/GPRS only mode.
Connection at my house really sucks. Reception on HD2 in EDGE only mode was normal.
Thank you!

Settings/mobile networks, turn of 3G
I've tried Settings/Cellular/Data Connection -> Off. Reception still sux
All carriers, operators and regions do not offer the 3G switch in Windows Phone for some reason.. Also the option Mobile Network (under Settings) is called Cellular in the US.
It was available in the XBMOD by YUKI for the HD2
Yuck.. why would you want to turn off 3G/"4G"? It's not a battery killer like LTE.

Actually, it is. Especially when you're in an area with poor 3G service; the act of constantly attaching to and detaching from 3G can drain a battery dead in a few hours.
Sent from my PI39100 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I have this reception problem only when I am at home. I guess my house in in the troublesome area. Battery life is not an issue for me, when I am home I plug my phone in. However, the reception is an huge issue for me. The reception icon is almost constantly changing 4G <-> 3G <-> E <-> No reception.
I do miss some phone calls, I do have dropped calls, It gets better when I go in 2nd floor. With my HTC HD2 i used to put it in EDGE Only mode while I am at home and it used to work just fine.
So, i just need to figure out how to turn of 3G/4G so my phone stays in 2G mode all the time when I am at home.
Does anyone have a solution?
Thank you!
I guess "3G connection" On/Off switch is available, but not on AT&T Titan.

Will need to wait for custom ROM then ...
Unless some body knows registry tweak or something

[Q] Toggling between 3G network to Edge

You've got to activate 3G on Reliance first...
Some providers do not preactivae 3G on the sims...
FYI, on Aircel u've got to send a text START 3G to 121 to start using 3G..
Check with your provider whether they've got some provisions like this...
Just check whether there is any E icon on the network icon or is it showing 3G/H+???
The latter shows that 3G is activated...
Hope this helps... :good:

here i find the Reliance network is not providing the service for what the user is using. if one has enabled all the activation process, why it should not start with the 3g network directly even if the signal is poor.

That's because the area where you're at present does not has 3G coverage...
This happens to any network...
If you go out of 3G coverage region or reach the fringes, this occurs...
3G problem on Moto E
I'm using the Motorola Moto E - Global GSM - Unlocked - 4GB (Black) sold on Amazon.
I relative of mine coming in from UK brought it for me.
I have been using it for 2 days in Mumbai and my carrier is Vodafone.
The problem is that i am unable to connect to 3g on my handset no matter what I do. I have accessed the Supermenu and tried using the WCDMA only option in which i was unable to connect to any network at all and the GSM option only Gives me EDGE as my network type. I know it is a Handset issue and not a carrier issue as i tried my SIM card in an Samsung Galaxy S4 and was able to use H+ network.
I am new on this forum so if you guys could help me i'd be really grateful.

[Q] Help about using HSPA

Hi all!
Im using a moto E with Tata Docomo sim.
The problem is that when I change my network mode to WCDMA only, the phone shows only 3G and not H+. However, when I go out of my home, I get H+ with full signal.
I've talked to customer care and the issue is that another cell tower which doesnt support HSPA is stronger in my home so the phone connects to it and only shows 3G even when data transfer takes place. 3G is so much slower than HSPA/HSPAP.
Is there any way I can force my phone to connect to HSPA/HSDPA only?? I dont mind if the signal drops a little. Since it is possible to force the phone to using 3G only, I thought forcing to 3.5G could also be done
Also my phone is rooted so changing any system file is not a problem.
Please help..
Thank you.
