How do I stop computer from trying to update firmware? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a rooted Verizon GS4. I stopped the phone from constantly bugging me about the firmware update by freezing the 2 apks mentioned in another thread somewhere here. The problem now is that my laptop keeps annoying me with the prompt. Even when the phone isn't plugged in to it. Its telling me it has finished downloading the update and asks me if I want to install now or later. I've googled this and can't find a solution. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

@Naddict, thanks for moving this to the proper forum.

Delete Kies. I never ever will use that POS useless software on my PC. If you're rooted you should never use that anyway as you should never take an OTA update since it will likely (and does with the GS4) break root and can keep you from installing a custom recovery.

OK I couldn't find Kies on my laptop but did find some Verizon program. Verizon application utility or something. Uninstalled it. Maybe that was it. As for the phone, I found something called "Kies via Wi-Fi ". I used System Tuner and froze it for now to see what happens. Thanks.

Yeah Probably the Verizon updater software get rid of that too

That must have been it. I don't get the prompt now when I plug the phone in. Thanks.

No problem. Glad to help out

Don't plug your phone into your pc Lmao sorry I had too glad you got it fixed

Lol. Funny but it was doing it even when my phone wasn't plugged in. Was very annoying.

[Q] Couple of questions

So for probably the first time in a long time, I went into the USB Settings on my phone to change from mass storage to ask on connection, and I happened to notice that Kies had 'firmware upgrade' beside it. Keep in mind Ive never used Samsung Kies before. I currently have Onyx 4.2 on my vibrant, with everything that came with it (Kernal-2.6.32.9, JK2) and Ive went through having to un-softbrick my phone a couple of times in the past, so I figured I better do a little research.
From what Ive read, if youre on a 'unapproved rom' you shouldnt even be able to get updates from kies like that. Also, is there any way to tell what it is? Im doubting its 2.2, and since Ive never used kies, and seen that theres a new v2.something now, possibly that? But like I said, I have no clue how long its been there, the last time I got any kind of update was back in October, which was JI6.
Im probably not going to install it, since Ive read alot of bad things about installing a update on a custom rom. I just dont want to plug my phone in to my computer and have to start dealing with something that couldve been avoided, so that being said, is there anyway to like, make it go away?
Also, Just out of curiosity, would it hurt anything or be a bad thing to download kies on my computer and see what its about? Ive seen that its not really super great software, but I was thinking, why not. Do you have to register your phone when you do?
Thats about all I got, so thanks in advance.

Just make a backup using Titanium Backup and backup your ROM if you'd like. Then ODIN stock using this pretty simple and comprehensive tutorial
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Then you should be fine on that stock rom of downloading the kies update.

USB Mode for Rooting ( Charge ONLY )

To root phone must be in Charge Only mode under USB Connection. If it is still in Motorola Phone Portal you will not be able to root. It took me a couple of Hours to figure this out. And im sure some people who are new to rooting or new to rooting Motorola Android Devices will have the same problem.
Yea umm...are you releasing something? Or just being informative?! Lollololololo..I believe this would be posted in the general section?

This is helpful, but the issue i was having is that i couldn't get the damn phone out of Phone Portal. I'd hit Charge Only and within in seconds phone portal starts up and i get the connected and i'd recieve an ip address notification on the phone.
I did some reading and saw that it is in the drivers i installed on the computer (64bit), and i was told to uninstall and reinstall and it would work. Well, reinstalling didn't rid the issue and i think it may be due to the 64 bit drivers.
anyways, i eventually got rooted the other day and so far so good running Alien. I was having a noob moment when i was trying to run fastboot commands while the phone was in the OS and not fastboot... almost pulled my hair out, and then i had one of those "what the f*** was i thinking" moments. I tend to forget little things after a few beers, thank god i'm not a vodka drinker, i'd have a mopho-ing brick

[Q] How Do I stop an Assigned Shutdown?

I accidentally installed the new Motorola update.
Now, its essentially soft-bricked.
I know the hard way around this, but if their's anyway I could stop a restart from happening without reinstalling my ROM, all 100+ apps, and configure my phone yet again, it'd be greatly appreciated.

No idea.. the thing would shutdown my phone, send it to a pre-boot installer, similar to installing a ROM, then give me a error sign half way through.
Turn the phone back on, and repeat.
Utter BS. You'd think Motorola would take errors into consideration.
I imagine theirs some poor soul out their with a similarly virtually-bricked phone.
I imagine it's either a WebTop update or a Motorola phone connect update.
If its a webtop update, that would explain why it keeps failing. My webtop folder is on my SD card and im using Ubuntop.
I'd really love to have a functioning phone again.. any help?

Try reverting back to stock, by SBFing. Look for more information in the development threads.
This happened to me, I just wiped the cache and dalvik cache and it hasn't happened since! I am rooted and unlocked and tried to accept the stupid update. After that my phone kept trying to turn off and flash it. Isn't it not flashing cause the stock recovery isn't there?

That could be, but I wish you good luck!

Stuck in RSD, after failed OTA, sprint dealer can't fix it

Hi Everyone,
This is my wife's phone, so i'm not very familar with it. She handed it to me today saying to won't boot. If connected to a charger, the screen would come on saying "RDS protocol starting..." and "Battery too low to flash".
After doing a little research her, I asked her if it had asked to do an update. She said yes, but that she's been hitting "no". So i guess it's been asking her for a while. I'm assuming she either hit yes, or it went ahead and did a force install anyway.
I took it to Sprint and they told me there was nothing they could do but replace it, which they have ordered the replacement, but that they cannot recovery anything from the internal memory (pictures, contacts, etc). So all I need to do is get the phone working enough to get data off of it, if at all possible.
The phone has NEVER been rooted. The bootloader is NOT unlocked. She's never let me touch it before.
I have no idea what version it was on (think it was 2.3.4) nor what version the OTA was trying to install.
I recharged the battery a little using a usb cable with the end cutoff and attached the red/black wires to the +/- pins. (about 30 mins or so). The "Battery too low to flash' message is gone and the phone is recognized in RDS Lite (good sign I hope).
Can I just flash "1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.zip" to it using RDS Lite? Or should I use a later version like 198_7? I downloaded the 154_5 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20331570&postcount=3)
I eagerly await a helping hand.
Thanks,
EB
Hmm, it varies.
I will try to help you, when I will get some more time today.

Thanks.. looking forward to hearing from you. All I really need is to be able to get pictures and contacts off of it.. and perhaps SMS history. I don't care if any of the services work, since Sprint is sending us a replacement phone.

Contacts are synced to googles servers, so that's not a problem. As far as pictures, were they on the sd card or internal phone storage? If on sdcard, just put the card in a card reader on a laptop or pc. Or you may be able to install bootstrap recovery and mount either internal or sdcard. Or, if you were on 2.3.4, flashing any of those sbfs will work.
You can block the update by changing a line in the buildprop. But that would require being rooted. Id sbf then do the update immediately after since she obviously doesn't care about root or unlock.
Thanks.. I'm sure the pictures are on the internal sdcard. It's the pictures taken by the camera over the past few months. I already have older ones copied to my PC.
peetr_ sent me a custom sbf for an unlocked bootloader + twrp. I'll try that when I get home to see if i can get into that way. (Thanks peetr_)
I'll keep everyone posted.
What line in the build.prop file do I change?

Can't remember ill try to find out for ya.
HUGE thanks to peetr_ for all the help he gave me. I managed to get it booted into Electrify and saved everything I needed. *whew*
I now believe the whole issue was not a failed update, but a sticky volume button that's causing it to go to RSD mode. Whenever I power it down, then backup, it always goes direct to RSD mode. But then I can pull the battery, put it back in.. then hit the non-volume side of the phone against the heel of my hand (fairly hard) 5 or 6 times, then power it on, and it boots normally. Then while it's running, I'll see the volumne adjust up and down randomly.
Then if i reboot it, it's back to the RSD mode.
It doesn't work every time, but I've managed to boot it several times like that.

I need help fixing me tablet

So, I recently managed to come into possession of a rather tasty little Prestigio PMT3377_Wi tablet and I wanted to root it.
I downloaded TowelRoot as the forum thread for it said "Will this brick my phone? Most probably not. towelroot alone hasn't bricked a phone yet." so I figured I'd give it a bash since I'm new to this and such.
I don't entirely know what happened next since I was letting the app just do it's thing next to me while I was on my desktop and then the app crashed.
Now when I try to boot it it gives me a small flash of a USB symbol, then goes back off, unless i have the USB cable plugged in, in which case the USB symbol would stay present.
So yeah, if anyone can help me, that'd be fantastic!!
Update: I've tried everything I can think off, when I use t he ADB, my device is "unauthorized" and I can't "authorize it" because I can't boot up the OS to get into the settings for that, and I THINK I've tried the TF card update properly, but nothing's worked.
I hope you all don't mind too much if I bump this?
