Droid DNA was a tampered bootloader, locked and s-on. Hboot 1.33. This happened when I tried to root using moonshine. How do I fix this? My phone is working though and I can boot into android. I'm running 2.07. Please help!
its ok relax everything is ok man sometimes it does take the first time and its saying tampered because you tried to unlock the device just run through moonshine again and unlocking will take effect once that is done you can flash a bootloader that doesnt say tampered on it so it looks stock
Okay thank you, But should I try to run moonshine again or use the droid DNA tool kit. Also do you know how to return to stock while running hboot 1.33. I know you need to flash to hboot 1.15 but do you need to be s-off or can you flash while s-on. Just incase I get stuck in a boot loop or brick my DNA.

Just a FYI some people half to run moonshine 4 times before it will complete without a error. With a factory reset between each time.
But what if I brick my DNA while trying to run moonshine running 2.07 on my droid DNA.

You can brick your people adding a kernal so what if.
If you don't want to take a chance I wouldn't root your phone and would leave it stock.
Thank you. On moonshine's website it shows that it only supports 2.06 and I'm running 2.07. Should i use windroid toolkit instead?

I had the same question and decided to give it a try over the last few days. Had a DNA s-on, running 2.07. I was able to gain s-off using moonshine, although it took several attempts. After the first attempt, I had the same issue (bootloader showed tampered s-on). Ran moonshine a few more times, with a factory reset between each, and it finally worked on the 4th attempt.

Nope, no brick here. My DNA is running fine with twrp and a custom ROM. I used the only version of moonshine currently listed on moonshine.io for the DNA and Windows. It does list it as being for ROM version 2.06.605.1, but it worked fine on 2.07... I even ran it on an older 32 bit laptop running Windows Vista... Just needed to run it several times with a factory resent between each try. The youtube link below provides a great walkthrough. The first part covers moonshine, and the second part covers flashing twrp. I believe the he even has a video on flashing a custom ROM.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UJ1chzDwCE
Also if you are looking for the fastboot/adb files he mentions in part 2, all you need are mini-SDK files posted on androidforums (google mini sdk).

Thank you but I can't run the RUU with Hboot 1.33. I think he need to be s-off to flash Hboot 1.15.
Yes, if memory serves me correctly, HTC devices need s-off to downgrade, at least that is how all my old HTCs needed to be. But to ruu I do know you MUST be locked or relocked.
If s-on on the HTC devices I have had experience with, when you try to ruu to an older version, you will get main ver older error. Which is why I don't know why this phone would be any different.

Y don't u just do the lazypanda s-off now since you are stock. U don't need fresh rom to do it. The new base is installed when u install a new rom on the new base. Just flash radios separately which u can do once s-off or just being on 1.12 I believe.

Why would you downgrade hboot and then run ruu to install the latest hboot? If you downgraded to 1.12 you should have no problem running lazy panda. Am I missing something?
On unlimited's site it says the rom requirements to run lazy panda is 1.13 RUU. I was confused on that as well but it hasn't been successful. I'm currently 1.12 hboot with 1.22 software version. So at this point just run the lazy panda?
Someone in mac's development thread stated they were able to run lazy panda on 1.12. You should ask about it in that thread and see if anyone can help
i ran it out of the box no RUU just ran it
Was that you that mentioned it then? I was having a hard time remembering who mentioned it lol
WHOO HOO! I'm S-Off!!! Ok am I finally ready for customer roms etc and I guess i need to flash radios of course.
edit: Thanks guys!

To root your phone you have to use HTC Dev to unlock your bootloader, then install a custom recovery, like TWRP. To gain S-off on the latest OTA update (Hboot 2.09/baseband ending in 1210) you can use Moonshine. It's Windows friendly. You have to be rooted first to use it

Try to downgrade using the instructions to get s-off, once yo get to the 3.15 version, download the 3.15 RUU, follow the instructions on unlimited.io, I've heard that you can use windows is just not supported by the devs you re on your own, it's real easy, just take off the "sudo./" part on each command and you hold be good to go, good luck!

First of all you have missed a couple firmware updates, but since you are s-on you need to update using a RUU head to vipeRuu thread and follow the script instructions, then unlock again using htc dev, install twrp and then flash supersu and busy box, you will be s-on, unlocked and rooted on stock. Navigation doesn't work on some jelly bean roms on some phones, it just crashes, no fix as of today, use telenav, waze or scout. Good luck!

Then you can update your firmware/radios
There is no need to run an RUU unless you need to go back to stock reason being you don't really want to update your hboot

yes you can root with out s-off but why not S-off of the ability is out there? S-off gives you unbridled access to your system for better of worse. Though you may be S-off you don't have to use it, but if you need it and don't have it then your screwed. Then you have to go through the entire process all over again. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. This thread is a perfect example. He wants to upgrade his radio not impossible with s-on but far more difficult. When I updated my radio I just flashed the .zip file like a rom. No need to rename files place them In the root directory yada yada yada. Just my opinion.

By the way I'm not bagging you over it. Simply saying the phone came out in June last year S-off has been available since July the same year. A year later there are three versions that do the same thing. Good on you for realizing s-off needed to be obtained. Once you are s-off there is nothing that will keep you from truly manipulating your phone any way you desire.

Yeah, i rooted the phone the day i got it, the only thing available at the time was s-on. Phone was/is running great, but i noticed i'm 4 updates behind and i have started seeing 4g in my area so i though it would be a good time to update the radios. Thanks for the suggestions guys, i got s-off now and going to try to update later.
Edited for accuracy:
For those happy folks finally moving to 4.4.2 (Verizon and Sprint most recently) please keep in mind that we do NOT yet have an ruu for 4.4.2. If you are S-ON you will NOT be able to save yourself using any 4.3 ruu if you have updated your hboot. Keep in mind an hboot can be flashed without any other part of an update so make sure you know what you are doing and what you have done to your device.
Just a public service announcement to hopefully bring people back to reality before they go modding their new 4.4.2 goodness.
Can't 4.4's hboot replace itself with the RUU's hboot,
(like usual 2 pass RUU install)?
Or did you mean for S-ON devices?
Im sure some magic can be worked for those that are s-off and can flash non encrypted. S-on folks definitely have to watch out. Overall its just best that people think before they play.

Aren't the s-off'ed and unlocked devices able to use their respective RUU's to downgrade? Example like myself I wen't from 1.11.605.4 official to the new 2.16.605.2 that if I ran in to a problem I could do the 0P3PIMG.zip from SD method or do the fastboot oem rebootRUU with the vzw.t6.0P3PIMG_1.11.605.4.zip and I was under the impression we could downgrade or upgrade as we see fit so long as we are s-off??? Isn't that how it's always been? I thought s-on users only really had to be careful since they could only upgrade due to main version issue and also not having a KitKat RUU now available if they took the update while s-on.... Some clarity would be great! Honestly though I thought the way I just worded it is how it's always been with HTC devices...

Im sure some magic can be worked for those that are s-off and can flash non encrypted. S-on folks definitely have to watch out. Overall its just best that people think before they play.

ALL of this discussion is why I started this thread!
It is important we get to the complete truth. IMO my OP stands valid until we have confirmation otherwise.

Last night, @waco2hot33 ran the RUU and went s-on to take the OTA...and was able to regain s-off, root, and unlocked via WeakSauce/firewater s-off...Here's how he did it
But, once you're back to s-off, and have root, no matter what hboot you have, you can run the commands from @scotty1223's thread found HERE to unlock the new hboot
End of discussion?
Yeah that's incorrect hehe... For s-on users that stands true... They need to be extremely careful until something becomes available, but speaking for the Verizon users that took the OTA and are s-off... Unlocked is NOT necessary, just as long as they are s-off they can actually downgrade back to stock 4.3 for whatever the reason may be.. i.e.: warranty, bad flash, etc etc... It's 100% always been this way for all HTC devices that are s-off... It's by far the greatest feature or perk of having an HTC device... If you don't believe me then grab the encrypted vzw.t6_1.11.605.4 RUU and run it, you will see you will have no issues downgrading. While s-on users if they attempted they would get the main version to low error, s-off bypasses that...

Please read my post above yours. Waco went s-on, took the update and installed it, and was able to regain s-off via the link i posted above. Therefore, one COULD root the newest update whether they are s-on or s-off.
I did something similar but why did he s-on?? Def didn't have to do that... I got the OTA and it failed 2 times so I said F it and ran the encrypted RUU just to get back to a complete stock state in case it was a boot.img or something missing issue and I remained "s-off" and "unlocked", redownloaded the OTA after booting back up and the OTA then flashed perfectly fine with booting in to KitKat and still s-off and unlocked. Only thing I had to do was fastboot TWRP back and flashed the SuperSU v1.94 and I was straight!
Did he think he needed to be s-on to take the OTA?

Noob moment? Tired? Acid flashback? Your guess is as good as mine, but he went s-on and was able to regain s-off via WeakSauce temp-root and firewater s-off with newest OTA/firmware. So...success? lol
I got what you are saying.. You are stating it is possible to root unlock and s-off official KitKat but what Jiggity Janx created the OP for was saying to everyone to be careful in case they soft bricked hard bricked boot looped or what have you that when on official KitKat there phone may be rendered unusable because there is no KitKat RUU.... What good is a rooted phone if you can't boot it? I was stating that if you are s-off and can at least boot to hboot that you are 100% safe and can run the Jelly Bean RUU....

But yes that is indeed good to know though, thanks for the info! Good to know s-on or off we can work with KitKat!
Verdict.....s-off allows full downgrade of everything via ruu. Firmware and hboot. Just tested myself.

I understand and agree, but if you're s-on, the likelyhood of you bricking your device is nearly null. If you're s-off, you could likely use the 4.3 RUU and downgrade your hboot (i did this yesterday during a brain lapse after taking/applying the update).
So if you're looking if being s-off allows you to downgrade your hboot, then the answer is yes.

OP and or title should be corrected so it is not misleading to some looking for answers... Maybe I'll make a thread for users as reference for all the variants
I think the intent of the op was really meant for the users who are currently s-on and running KitKat. If they run into issues they likely won't be able to root and s-off and will be screwed as there currently isn't public KitKat ruu available.
Good discussion. Please don't discuss the intent of the thread anymore.

IMO if you can root it you can f it up. So s-on users do have some risk and currently there is no fix for them on 4.4.2 where there was a fix for them on 4.3 (encrypted ruu).
Good to see that soff users should be good to use a lower version ruu to downgrade if needed.
I have updated and downgraded to the stock version OS and hboot. But I'm also S Off. I had to use the decrypted RUU file though....
