I know his is prolly a basic question but I failed in my last attempt. Is there a method to back up apps music and pics before converting to GPE.
besides copying folders in windows and simply repeating them back in after concerting.
If there is a utility I could use that will keep my apps as well as data that would be great.

I know that there is probably a very simple solution to my problem, but I have yet to find it on our forums...
How do I, when flashing a new ROM, save a backup of my playlists in Music Player? I can't seem to find the files where they are saved in order to copy them and re-install them once my device is restored. I love experimenting with new software, but this is getting very old having to re-create all my lists every time I flash.
Help, anyone?
Instead of creating playlists on your phone, do it on MediaMonkey so you can just sync it when you put a new rom on.

I've never used that app before, but I'll try it out. Thanks!
Titanium Backup will backup/restore your playlists.

Playing around with something today - was attempting to get a process by which there is a non-destructive root method for the EVO family and ran across a stumbling block.
Start with 1 unrooted locked EVO 3D fully updated with enough programs and data to identify that it's mine, set up, etc...
use adb backup -all
wait nearly an hour as the data and apps are backed up at a very low speed, 1.5 gb backup file is created.
destructive HTCDev unlock, wipes the entire thing out
use adb restore backup.ab
wait nearly an hour for the restore which should bring back apps and data, but never does... always crashes HTC Sense or something, occasionally I'll see icons to programs I installed but they'll say the programs aren't there.
So yeah, it appears I have found a way to make the backups fine, but no way to restore them. Does anyone know why that last step works or doesn't work? This is on a completely stock ICS 3D with only 3 programs installed after an RUU, so there's no funky config problems. Just ADB hates restoring HTC
:good: nice
ok, so I've banged my head against this one over and over again... failing to figure out how to force the phone to accept the data back... it's there... just kind of useless.
Have asked Titanium Backup people if they want to help... seems to be their kind of thing.
My storage is almost full and I'd like to create a backup of my current ROM before trying a new one. I can't create a backup from recovery since the backup size would be too big. I've already cleaned my system and deleted unwanted pictures/apps but I just can't get rid of enough of it. Is there a way to backup straight to a PC, or another solution entirely?
On another note, the reason my storage is so full is because of Play Music. I save a lot of music to my device and it's always such a hassle to have to re-download all the music after a rom flash. Is there a way around this?
I have been running completely bone stock, un-rooted Nexus 4 for a little over a year. I have finally decided to make the jump over to playing with Custom ROM and Recovery.
As much as a NOOB that I am, my thought process of backing data up would have been; Copy the entire folder structure from the Nexus 4's internal storage and placing it on my PC. After successful flash of a new ROM ( KitKat 4.4.4 from Google) I figured copying the folders that pertain to the app back over would restore my data. It did not
For example: The game Blocky Roads: I found a folder \Android\data\com.crescentmoongames.blocky_roads and a folder \Android\obb\com.crescentmoongames.blocky_roads. I ASSUMED this would restore my game save, however It did not.
So, couple questions for the Experts.
1. Am now at a loss of my game save, am I doing this right and missing something?
2. If I am at a loss; what is the Popular method of backing/restoring this kind of stuff?
Use titanium backup. Doing this will not work as the data for the app is not stored on your internal storage partition
Awesome! thanks for the speedy reply. I will check that out.
If I am switching ROMs, is there any way to backup and then restore my Google Play Music files?
I have nearly 40GB of playlists etc and would really prefer not to have to redownload them each time. Is there a way to backup a specific folder and then restore it after flashing the new ROM?
I understand they are DRM protected. I don't want to add them to my computer or anything, I just want to avoid the headahce of trying to DL 40gb of data on a very slow connection.
Hi,
I'd like to also step in and ask for a solution. I myself have 30GB that needs downloading everytime i install a new ROM.
I have tried to use Titanium to tell the system that some kind of ID stays the same, but apparently the music is deleted from the phone as soon as the phone is started for the first time, so I can't really tell whether this would work or not.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated
