I Ordered one last week but notice that when viewing images full screen in landscape position, there were 2 lines across the screen near the edge on the side where the speaker is, So I though it was a panel defect, so that one went back, and today I got the replacement, unfortunately it also has the problem. However further investigation this seems to be software related.
If the tablet was powered off and then turned on. Everything is ok. You can see here that the margins are all ok, the blue line show where the margins end and you can see the left and right margins. Also in portrait position they are ok.

But when the tablet goes to sleep and then on. The margins are shifted, you can see the double cyan line on the right side, and none margins on the left side, and in portrait position now the double cyan line appears on the bottom, and none margin on the top.
Those cyan lines it do show up when there is something not black or white on full screen, because on black or white it's not apparent.
Can anyone make this test so we can figure out if this only related to some versions/firmware or is present on all of them.
To make the test, enable the Developer menu, go to About Tablet, and hit 8 times on Build Number. this will enable the developer menu, and here just go to Show layout bounds. and mark that one.
Please report what you find.
Cheers.
Here's my with the same issue. In the first picture you can see where the mess up pixel line is.
It will only show in landscape mode on speaker side, the line will only appear on color, but not black or white. You can see the blue line cutoff on the white letter logo and continue down then dissappear on black.
The line will show up as blue on a red background color, red line on green, green line on blue.
In landscape mode with speaker to the right

I already chat with Dell technical support and the guy confirm that this not supposed to happen so it's going to be escalated to the development team, and they will call me back in 24 to 48 hours to further investigate the issue.
So far, only yours and mine(two different devices) have the issue, because nobody is reporting yet. I'm almost sure that this is a widespread problem.

I found someone who posted that they have this issue on dell forum. He also say his friend have the same issue. Someone also post a response to my review on amazon that they also have this issue.
Could be a scaling issue since I don't see it on the 7" version. I've noticed that aside from the model number difference, the firmware seems to be the same. Do note that the Intel Atom Z2580 is just a faster clock Z2560 found on the 7" version of the tablet.
It would be helpful if you guys post the links to this forum of other people with the same problem and send this thread to the Dell Support so it helps them troubleshoot the problem.
At least this problem isn't as bad as the graphics corruption that plagued the ASUS TF201 when it was on Android 4.0.4, now that was annoying for me, anything that was GPU accelerated was broken, couldn't watch YouTube videos properly and everything GPU accelerated was broken. It wasn't until NVIDIA released a new GPU driver for the Tegra 3 and upgraded the kernel to 3.1.10 was when they finally fixed the problem. They also pushed the update out as Jelly Bean for us TF201 owners.
Anyways, my point is, this seems to be a minor but annoying GPU bug that shouldn't be too hard to fix by the Dell team. Imagination Technologies produces a lot of embedded GPU solutions, including the ones in these Intel Atom Z2xxx SoCs, they should be able to help out.
Hopefully, they'll push out and update soon.

Yeah, that's exactly what I think, sure it's not a big problem, but annoying, this is why I hate to be early adopter of new tech, So i had to jump because Christmas is right away so I though this could be a nice present.
Same issue here. Its not noticeable unless I'm looking for it though.

Damn..so far 4 of 4..
Yeah it's not noticeable until certain conditions. if you always use it in portrait position, there wont be any problems, but if you like to browse flickr for example in landscape position, always when you are scrolling thru the pictures there is going to be those annoying lines, or simply by watching full screen a video in landscape position. At least it doesn't affect the performance of the tablet, and we hope is not hardware related which apparently it is not. Just poor software development, but shouldn't be happening.

Today the guys at Dell call me, to let me know that they are trying to find what is happening, if only mine or are several with this problem. Even I told the guy that we believe ALL of them, he said that they will try to find a solution. So all of those that have the problem please chat with technical support, and let them know that you guys are having the problem, by sharing them this thread.
Same problem I'll let them know so that hopefully we can get a fix to this quickly.

Mine does it also, rarely appears, not a biggie for me. A fix would be nice but don't feel its a deal breaker if one never came. Seems to only rear its ugly head ever so briefly, like a split second, when expanding a streamed movie in Plex to full screen from a smaller window.

Hi everyone!
I already replied in some other posts about this, but I really think this topic deserves a new thread, because the things going on are truly interesting.
This is the latest news about WebOS, it seems it will most likely be sold to another company, which it's still unknown, though there are possible candidates.
Here the news: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Exclu...2.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=6&asset=&ccode=
What surprises me most, is an answer the new CEO gave during an Interview, about the WebOS devices future:
"The question now before us is what do we do with webOS software and do we come back to market with webOS devices," Whitman said. "It obviously will not be the same device but it will be version 2.0."

That 2.0 makes me sort of confused and curious at same time.
In the meantime, it seems lots of other Touchpads are acquired by lots of new customers and even more are interested: https://developer.palm.com/distribution/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=18954
What do you think about?
I was just concerned about them using the TouchPad to revive their PC business. Aren't their PC's good enough on their own? Guess not. Whatever.
If the plan was to stop making the TP1 available to make way for the TouchPad2. That would make sense.
Course, with HP, it's just this:

I think if there was ever a possibility to get more webOS into our hands, they hired the right woman for the job.

Two things here....
If webOS is sold, it will be primarily for the patents, not to further develop the OS and APPs. As far as "normal" consumers are concerned there are currently only two mobile OSes, iOS and Android. Nothing else will sell in significant volume.
The interest in the TP has only ever been generated by the extremely low cost. Who wouldn't want a fully functional piece of hardware for $150 when the next best thing is over $400. Nobody can manufacture, market, and distribute this level of hardware for less than $300 and make money unless they have boat loads of content/services to sell behind it... HP doesn't have the content.
As good as it may be, WebOS is dead and HP has sealed it's fate.

Although your guesses don't explain that sentence by the new HP's CEO about "new" Touchpads during the interview...
Maybe they will port Windows 8 on a "new" Touchpad revision/version?
Here is a fairly recent news about it: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/10/24/hp-testing-windows-8-on-touchpads/
If that would be the case, I'd be really happy if things will be compatible with current TP, I'm not concerned about WebOS itself, but more about new portings on this hardwares.
For the rest, I really hope CyanogenMod will continue with Android releases on this tablet, hoping for at least a good Beta version of Gingerbread, and would love the new ICS (when and if sources will be available of course), or at least Honeycomb.
By the way, I can't seem to find the news unfortunately, but it seems WebOS has been updated with new Patches/Apps and maybe content during the last days of October if I remembe correctly. It makes no sense if WebOS is definitely dead :-\
And the recent TouchPad Developer Device Purchase Program (https://developer.palm.com/distribution/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=18954) would be also a nonsense, given the current situation about WebOS.
I still think we don't really know what's going on, and I personally can't guess what's going to come next.
But hey, I like talking about it, so please share your opinion if you care too!
People keep saying it's dead like it didn't just get 200,000 new users, 2 Firmware updates, and a constant flow of new apps which is more than any other tablet has gotten in the past month!
And despite the fact that it is one of the newer tablets, it is a new tablet!
The HP TouchPad was well received, it's one of few concerns was the hardware. Which isn't bad, it's just different.
It could be said that everyone who has a TouchPad now, we're in good standing.
Two operating systems. The power of synergy. Uniqueness in the tablet arena.
It could go either way. They could sell it, to which end who knows. Or they could keep it, to which end who knows. Or they can sell parts of it and keep parts of it, to which end who knows.
Either ways, big TP is still, still, the best thing there is, at the moment.

Don't confuse "Touchpads" with "Tablets" yet to be developed. Meg used similar language when she spoke to the HP Employees back when the decision to keep PSG was announced. She indicated that for HP to stay in the Personal Computer Market they would have to have a tablet offering, but that it would address the business market, not the consumer market.

Yes there are updates, but it makes all the sense in the world. There is still a large division within HP that is working on WebOS and all of this is supposed to enhance the value of WebOS as they try to sell it to someone. HP would be stupid to just stop development and watch the value go completely to zero.
I still think we don't really know what's going on, and I personally can't guess what's going to come next.

The Touchpad was a consumer play. There's no guessing about what happens next. Like I said before "normal" consumers only want one of two things, iOS or Android. It doesn't mean that either one of them are better than WebOS. When is the last time you saw a movie released on BetaMAX or even HD-DVD.
Don't get me wrong... I love my TP and I think WebOS has a lot of virtues, Apple and Google just had too big a head start and in an effort to differentiate themselves from the myriad of Android Tablets, HP took a shot at WebOS.

another thing is why are people treating this device like a G1 or something.
It wouldn't make any sense for CM to not continue supporting the TP.
most of the hard work has been done, why would they stop now?
Not only that, but the TP has a large user base.
Just because you don't see 50,000 roms in the forums, doesn't meant it's dead.
Most are merely waiting for ICS to drop.
I know I am. I know a group of us are going to be working on getting ICS on the TP once source gets released.

And you're talking a person who owns an iPad, iPhone and a TouchPad, whoa! That's just impossible! Lol
The fat lady has not sung. The TouchPad tragicomedy is just filled with twists and turns and surprises around every corner. Until then, people are going to be doing what they've been doing: sitting in the dug out until the next play is made.
If there was a better tablet, I would have moved on a long time ago. But it's just too good to put down.
The tablet market needs tablets like the TouchPad or it will continue to get stale.
So, I would say there's a high possibility. I feel like the new HP is different from the old HP, Meg Whitman knows how to please.
But even if nothing happens, the TouchPad is perfectly fine as is. And ICS is gonna make it even better.
I really appreciate your replies!
I wish I could help somewhat developing an ICS port for the Touchpad, though I'm still too newbie on that (never done something different from re-compiling a new kernel for my smartphone).
I really hope community will continue to develop on this device, lots of ROM's are anyway pointless, the main things are stable releases of Android OSs!
At any rate, I'm still curious about WebOS future and HP next steps on this, so please share any news/opinion you got!
I got a TP anticipating an android port. Playing with webOS while waiting, I came to the decision that I prefered it to what I expected of android for the screen size. Since the CM alpha release, I haven't had reason to change my original opinion. Mind you, I run CM nightlies on my G2, 1.9hhz OC, etc. Android is great for phones, but unless ICS makes some very serious changes I think it can still lose marketshare to a better os.
The question is if HP will commit the right resources to a real try at the market or pull the same ***t a second time.
Sadly, the only thing I am really hoping to see would be Ubuntu with the Unity interface.

The Nook Tablet is rooted, but it has a locked bootloader so custom ROMs are a no go at this point in time. And honestly, while it's possible that sometime in the future custom roms could be loaded, it's not worth betting your money on that feature (right now). Good people are putting in the effort, but the Nook Tablet is a tougher nut to crack than the Nook Color. Time will tell....
With all that said, you can pretty much do anything besides load custom roms on the tablet. With launchers and some apps that help tweak it you can get a very snappy little tablet. It just takes a little more tinkering right now to find your own happy place.
This is a hard decision! So going on the android market right now is a no go? But if you root it you can side load apps from the market? Can you surf the web with it right now the way it is? So what would you guys get? If they get past the bootloader problem, which I am sure they will, the only other advantage to the tablet besides the speed is the built in "mic" which later on could be used to talk while using the keyboard, (maybe) similar to the way a cell phone works? Just trying to weigh my options! Just trying to decide which one I want to get right now!

The market is fine for my uses. Apparently there are a few apps that don't show up but meh.
You can surf the web with the thing out of the box, no rooting or side loading required.
And yes the difference between the color and the tab is speed and the mic. The color is alright speedwise if you get a decent rom on it, and tweak it but it's still slow compared to the tab, even with B&N's relatively clunky interface. Also getting the color running at a decent pace takes a lot of effort, impacts battery life (think overclock) and it still has it's limits.
The bootloader is a huge issue though. If you want to run custom roms, i really can't recomend the tab.
If you just want to watch movies, surf the interwebs, or read books/comics/magazines, then I would highly recommend the tab. The nook color is a very special piece of hardware, but it's showing it's age with it's speed. The kindle fire might be better for hackers, but the display on the nook is...well...amazing. Take five minutes with a fire at target or something, then stop by B&N and play with the tab, you will see what i mean. The difference is huge.
To me the decision just came down to the display. The nook's is amazing, the fire's sucks. Since it's mostly a content consumption device, even if i was running custom firmware, the display is the most important part.

Can you side load the android market right now?

Once you get the market on the Nook Tablet, you can use the market to get your android apps. And yes, some apps don't show up in the market for one reason or another, but you can usually find ways around those issues and it's not a common thing from what I have seen.
For example, I had purchased the Slingplayer for my Android phone a few months ago. Once I rooted my tablet, got the market loaded, and signed in the market showed me Slingplayer all ready to download and install... and it works perfectly.
The biggest question you want to ask yourself is "What do I need the tablet to do?" If you consume a lot of Amazon content, the Fire is the choice. If you need a tablet that will go with custom roms sooner rather than later, then the Fire is a better bet. If you plan on loading a lot of your own content, or use the B&N content, then the Nook Tablet is going to be your choice. And finally if you don't mind tweaking a rooted tablet around the existing setup instead of needing custom roms or can be pretty patient in waiting, then you will do fine with a Nook. And just as an example, my Nook Tablet is going to end up replacing my iPad. I still have a couple of things to do to get it where I want it, but I'm pretty confident that's it is a perfect replacement for my iPad, even at this stage (rooted and tweaked by apps).

Thanks for the info, can we get some more
Is there a certain thread you followed to get your tablet to where it is now or would you be willing to put together some kind documentation to get the tablet like yours? Honestly, I'd (and a few others more then likely) would just need a set of steps we can follow... sorry for being a noob.
thanks in advance

In other words, it's not an issue with the device. Asus thinks it's fine. So it must be an issue with its owners. While he has a "manager" title, Gary must be further up the food chain than it would seem if he's granting interviews to national publications; especially with litigation pending.
No mentioning of bleeding, dead pixels, bright spots
"CNET: You say "the normal user [Wi-Fi] experience" is not adversely impacted by the unibody design. How exactly do you define the "normal user experience"?
GK: Normal user experience is that [the users are] using their tablet, streaming Netflix, or surfing the Web or other activities, and the tablet works. It does not matter if the maximum throughput is 36Mbps or 32Mbps as indicated by a benchmark program. If the user is not impacted and does not know if the tablet is 10 percent slower at 20 feet from their router, then I think the actual user experience is what matters the most."
In the end, Asus is happy with Prime's WIFI performance. So, if you travel as often as I do for work... goodluck being happy with your Prime's WIFI performance.
"But what about GPS? GPS on a tablet is obviously important to certain individuals, but since less than one percent have returned their Primes because of GPS problems, it must either prove, as the evidence supports, that the problem isn't that widespread or that most people just don't care.l"
I agree, most don't care about GPS. I doubt it made much difference in sales either...
However, the #s are skewed considering it didn't factor those who lost all trust in Asus, or simply are scared of RMA. This also ignores "returns" to retail vendors....
"We took the only step possible in this case and removed GPS from the official specifications shortly after the unit went on sale. We apologized for this inconvenience and offered to assist users who wanted to return the unit after the announcement.
"
I haven't called their customer service in a while.. but.. does this mean they are now offering FULL refund (including shipping)?? And if so, since when did they start this program??
Ill commend you on this one. I ran out of thanks. Confirmed interview on Cnet. Great interview of Gary Key. He told it like it is. Plus more official confirmation that less than 1% of primes. Plus o want to rub this in Shinzz face. As proof its said firmwares will continue to come out to improve GPS although removed from spec. Overall a great interview on the Prime. We have official numbers from an official tech site. Prime is a success so far. The demand greatly exceeded their expectations and majority of users happy with it. Just like the polls here showed. No disputing anything now. Gary addressed the issues in interview. Then he also gave hard number statistics on return rate for each issue and overall.
SO PRIME IS ACTUALLY DOING VERY WELL RIGHT NOW. Great news to hear. Glad op linked this thread. Issues people experienced here in xda no where near as extensive as people thought...lmfao. take that Barry..lmfao. I love it.

"Even with the removal of GPS from the feature specifications, we are still working on aGPS optimizations with firmware updates that allow automatic downloading of LTO (Long Term Orbits) information. This can improve GPS lock speed and allow a certain level of functionality from the unit."
aGPS... not as GPS. I really don't care about aGPS. So.. NO.. you aren't seeing GPS firmware update.. but aGPS updates.
I will make sure to bookmark this link..expect me to be bringing it up in any and all debates doubting the Prime. Numbers are numbers. No one here is a statistics genius to doubt these numbers. No, it isn't Tomato tomatoes. There's a big difference in aGPS and GPS. Asus launched and advertised PRIME as GPS that's able to navigate.
Also, when Asus releases (if they do) #s with "returns" to retail vendors (because many.. if they were in their return window.. would opt to return to retail vendor instead of RMA) & the overall sale figure... I'll give them more credit.
Also, here's a brief explanation of LTO: http://www.broadcom.com/collateral/tb/LTO-TB100-R.pdf
Basically.. Asus is offering FIRMWARE update to tinker with GPSconfig (that we were able to do in HC & before the patch that basically turned GPS into aGPS).. all you need to do is go online, and collect the data every other day.
Shoot, that article is way too much kool-aide for demandarin to handle, slow down man....you got the whole weekend ahead of you.
Thanks for the link. Nice read.
Quotes from Gary..
We discovered that due to the all-aluminum unibody design structure, the GPS performance was not satisfactory for all users, especially those wanting to use the device as a true GPS and not in aGPS mode. We took the only step possible in this case and removed GPS from the official specifications shortly after the unit went on sale. We apologized for this inconvenience and offered to assist users who wanted to return the unit after the announcement.
Basically saying GPS will never function as a "true GPS" because of its aluminum backplate" All the more reason to MOD it. I have and now it works 100%. Others that do not want to MOD will be SOL.
"The second area of concern with users is the performance of the unit with Wi-Fi and BT enabled at the same time. For a very small minority of users, this combination resulted in signal dropouts or severely degraded wireless performance. We are still investigating the root cause of this problem with returned units, but it appears to be a random manufacturing process issue with properly attaching an antenna"
Hmmmm. This gets me thinking. My prime is moded and i have the antenna running out of the tablet and I still have the Bluetooth/WIFI fallout issue. I thought Broadcom chipset uses same antenna for Wifi / BT. Seems like he is saying this is a hardware issue that is fixed by properly attaching an antenna. Interesting.... My antenna is external and I still have problem.
I love my prime and besides the GPS I have NEVER had an issue. Guess I'm just a fan boy.

You right...ill let it simmer in over the holiday weekend. I think they know the deal now. I love what that senior editor said at the end, Transformer Prime, despite the small number of reported issues, IS AN EXCELLENT TABLET. He also said some stuff about GPS I could repeat but I won't go there, YET...lol. I'm sure others will catch what he said n bring it to light. With this article I'm fully loaded and my trigger finger itching very badly. If I take off the safety it'll be a massacre in here. I don't want to see them go out like that. Ill be the bigger man n let them think on this one. Lovin it. I got infinite ammo with this one. Put all rumors or whatever to rest. MAY THE RUMORS R.I.P.
There's a lot to that interview.
I'm upset at the GPS fiasco but I got mine working with little tricks here and there however I would like to have a perm fix to get it working right without having to put my phone on the corner. *IF* anyone in the Houston area has opened their Prime and wouldn't mind opening mine, PM me! would like to test a few other things out.
Short of opening the damn thing or slapping a phone or paperclip over the corner, the only thing we can do is wait for Asus to come up with something. I sent Gary the link to the GPS working with phone thread in hopes maybe a simple addition to the Prime's internals or something would solve (or help solve) the GPS issue. I have 0 Wifi issue or known issue(s). Everything loads in good speed and streams well. 25 or 2.5, do you really notice a difference in Netflix? I currently have only a 4G connection (Clear for ya) where I am. Haven't gone with Comcast (uggg...) or DirectTv/Dish to get my internet connection and everything has been well. We're too involved in the speed where we should be more involved to does it work. I understand there are some that doesn't get any signal where they should and that's another issue Asus has to address but for now, for the most of us (even for those not on this board), it seems to be working just fine/satisfactory.
If we were to pick apart everything we have and want it "perfect", we're going to be arguing all day back and forth from Toyota's auto-accelerating pedal to Mercedes bio-degradable wiring harness to BMW's self-destructing cooling system to "Everything Mitsubishi makes" as to what to expect and what to do about it.
I got mine. it works 90%. I log in less than 8 hours a week on my laptop where it was more of a 24/7 thing for me. When I am on the go, I don't think about packing the laptop anymore; I just grab the Prime and go (sometimes with the keyboard and sometimes w.o) knowing 95% of the things I need/want to do is available.
Nothing is perfect but at least Asus has someone supporting us here. Can't say much for many manufactures out there; some wait for the lawsuit to go front page before doing anything about it.
While this "interview" is heavily weighted in GK's (ASUS's) favour ... (I suspect a good script writeup here), i do respect Garys input on the forums.
I cant remember EVER having a senior member of a company helping with queries etc on any forum i've ever been on before, and i'm very glad to see he's still here despite some of the witch hunt type threads and responses.
There have been teething probs with the prime and i think they are pretty much ironed out now (bar the GPS ...), firmware issues are easily sorted, and people shouldnt be so quick to join a witch hunt, fixes usually come quickly.
Anyway ... I'm a frustraited customer in the UK thats had to wait since december for a prime, I had a champagne but the keyboard dock was faulty, so still waiting on the replacement to come, My only gripe is the availability .. Pre-orders should give enough warning on how many to supply, IMO waiting over a month after launch isnt acceptible to still be waiting, i really hope asus learn from this.
It was a good bit of "Official Info" but I am concerend on a few points:
Gary says:
GK: Normal user experience is that [the users are] using their tablet, streaming Netflix, or surfing the Web or other activities, and the tablet works. It does not matter if the maximum throughput is 36Mbps or 32Mbps as indicated by a benchmark program. If the user is not impacted and does not know if the tablet is 10 percent slower at 20 feet from their router, then I think the actual user experience is what matters the most.
My experienece IS decent, and i agree, that is indeed what counts most, but 36 Mbps or 34 Mbps? I would give my left.. er arm for those kind of numbers. I see HALF thos on a brand spanking new Cisco E4200, tuned every which way from Sunday for the Prime, and my numbers don't drop 10% at distance, they drop 90%... Anyway, just sayin... those numbers ar way ambitious, for me anyway.
The other concern was he outright said: NO new hardware revision. Which is fine. And preferable in terms of supporting whats out there with less confusion. However it DOES open the point up that GARY'S TEAM MEMBER another SUPPORT MANAGER who I will be kind enough not to name, told me exactly the opposite, and specifically that the C1 he tested and sent me had different, revised hardware. Pisses me off to be lied to, no matter WHO is doing it. As I have often said, My Prime experience has beem mostly a positive one, I just sense BS from time to time. If Gary is telling the truth, then his organization is not. How is a person suppossed to feel good when that happens?
BTW, Same "SUPPORT MANAGER" who told me all about my new hardware revision? Said the C1 replacement I was getting would get GPS reception "as good as your TF101 ever did" I was so freaking happy to hear THAT! Too bad it never happenned. Not even in the same class. Sigh...
Final thought: article says this below the pic of location settings: "GPS works well when Wi-Fi can be used to augment its performance." It does? Not that I have ever seen. I think they menat LOCATION aware apps work BETTER when NOT using GPS but other means, cause GPS doesn't see a single satellite with aGPS info in my unit. I need to be OUTSIDE. And anytime I have seen sats it's ONLY with no wifi, out in the car away from home. sigh...
So while I would love to say I got a great feeling form all this "Official" data, I don't feel any better, or worse.... more of the same, sigh...

I guess all the bad docks in the UK didn't add up to much "in percentages" but I personally saw a lot of reports. A shame really, that you had to buy as a pair/return as a pair, and couldn't keep the tablet at least. Hope you get your new baby fast.. Supply is still very constrained to my eye... Amazon in particular, something up with Asus/Amazon... I wonder what?
Its like he said in the interview, the demand for prime greatly exceeded their expectations. Meaning they didn't produce enough units to meet the high demand of the most prized Android tablet. So he said they are going tto aggressively ramp up production to meet demand. All makes sense as anyplace that carries prime is always sold out so fast. Best part of it all, to me, was the confirmation that Prime was not being replaced or discontinued and that they firmly believe in the high quality of Prime. So worries of it not being supported on long run was basically shot down by this interview. So many bits n pieces I'd love to bring up. Ill wait though. I see it scared away some people..lol

The "glass half full" people will see this as validation. The "glass half empty" people will see it as propaganda. And this thread will once again be run up to God knows how many pages and stay on the front page for days/weeks. A devices success (or failure) isn't measured in weeks. Let's see how everyone feels a couple of months from now when Asus and other manufacturers have next-gen tablets out for a direct (not theoretical) comparison of both performance and quality. The great thing about forums is that individual posts are archived. So we'll be able to go back and see who was right and who was wrong as we've all proffered our speculations.
P.S. – A 1% failure rate is industry leading and difficult for even premium manufacturers like Sony and Samsung to achieve and maintain. Does this forum feel “industry leading” to you? Does it even feel like other tablet forums? And, if not, why do you think that is?
Knife cuts both ways
"The second area of concern with users is the performance of the unit with Wi-Fi and BT enabled at the same time. So, does this mean that the Pogo pins don't attache well/properly or does it reference the Gap that Erusman found on the antenna PCB? Either way, it's open ended, since they are still out there.
Oh... and as I recall, all the reviewers BEFORE Prime shipped were stating the same conclusion: It's a great a tablet. Duh.

But on one note, Asus products n laptops are known as the most reliable or break down the least. I remember seeing several articles n stats proving that. Can it be actually so hard to believe the issues here not so widespread as we thought? Therefore following that less than 1% failure rate. No one is perfect. We all wrong sometimes. Just cave in now, Barry. Lol. Ill accept the defeat graciously. Never too late to switch. Switch sides now n ill forget all the previous stuff you said

I just got the "New IPad" and I have to say that I am not impressed at all. I have never used IOS before and it sucks Android on the Prime is what is going on, for real, and to be honest you cant even tell all that much the screen resolution difference it isn't that drastic! The New Ipad does look cleaner I will give it that but its just boring , so far its went something like this - Go to App Store find app ........... Wait (put in password-what)for an App to download ......... takes forever ......... Done finally ........ Play or use app. Why do the apps take so long to download then you have to type in your pass every time you download an app, that's crazy. I like my freedom, I heard it was hacked already I don't know how much freedom that will bring. No customization at all, I don't know if I wanna keep this thing or not. The Prime is way better so that's coming from someone that owns both. Get a Prime or just ............. Boring so far at least.
I didn't get a chance to try it out at the store because Walmart keeps them behind glass where I live. So i guess there to precious to touch, unlike all the androids that are out too display, use and try them out at will. So far I think it will see Walmart again. Here are some Pics I took side by side.

So what are your complaints about either of the devices anyways?
Great, you have a Galaxy Note as well . I've got all the three devices as well. Unfortunately, my Prime doesn't get too much usages, since I bought Note.
I have a good prime now except for Wifi and BT together sometimes goes out. Gonna get that fixed hopefully. But I get really good download speeds all around the house with the prime. I just wanted to try the IPad out because I have never owned one before so I figured I would give it a try. I don't just sit and stare at widgets though, you must be talking about someone else but they are nice to have, don't you agree? As you can tell I don't have my Prime all set up yet with widgets and all that other stuff. It just feels more comfortable to operate, but like I said this is my first IOS go, so it might get better, who knows? I'm only giving my INITIAL IMPRESSIONS of IOS and my experience with Android Initially was better, that's all!!!
I might pull my Prime out and see how many widgets I can put on the front page. Hell I might put Widgets on every page, nothing but all widgets, actually that might look nice. At least I know it would have the horsepower to operate in that fashion.

The widgets and customization are important for how useful they make the device to each individual user. I don't know about everyone else, but I have my home screens setup in such a way as to provide all of my necessary information available at a glance, along with widgets that allow me to do things like create new notes, create tasks, etc. with a single tap.
I don't spend a great deal of time staring at the widgets. Quite the opposite, in fact. Just a quick glance shows me everything I need to know. Getting at that same info on an iPad would require a whole bunch of tap icon, open app, tap home button, tap icon, open app, tap home button, tap button, open app, tap home button, rinse, repeat, over and over.
Tedious and inefficient...

I don't spend a great deal of time staring at the widgets. Quite the opposite, in fact. Just a quick glance shows me everything I need to know. Right they are good to look and see what info you think is important real quick without interning into a program and the tap tap tap stuff. I personally would rather save my time take a quick look oh it's looking nice tomorrow and the next couple days, I'm running at good temps, My clock speed is what I want, I see my news flashes, etc. widgets widgets widgets man!

The widgets and customization are important for how useful they make the device to each individual user. I don't know about everyone else, but I have my home screens setup in such a way as to provide all of my necessary information available at a glance, along with widgets that allow me to do things like create new notes, create tasks, etc. with a single tap.

Exactly. I don't understand how Gary just thinks people sit there and stare at them. I personally have news, weather and gmail widgets. It's nice to not have to launch three apps to get a quick glance at everything. I can just scroll through the gmail widget and see if there are even emails I need to read and the same goes with news articles.
Widgets are interactive not just static, just much quicker to do the menial tasks.

The customization you'll get from jail breaking is pretty much themeing and it slows the device down, there's no way to get more performance out of it. The things you'll be able to do once jail broken, you can do more on unrooted android..
I guess since development started slow people are second guessing? Believe me, things are coming, things are being worked on. That's just me, 40+hrs a week construction slows things down, im sure theres others like me. Check my git, stuff is slowly being added to my kernel. After that, aosp w/ some things.
>I personally have news, weather and gmail widgets. It's nice to not have to launch three apps to get a quick glance at everything.
How often do you need to check on news/mail/weather?
I check the weather once a day; mail, about once every couple of hours; news, never. If I want to read news, I'll fire up the browser.
It's a preference. I personally view widgets that have constantly updated content a distraction. Neither do I like live wallpaper. I'm a minimalist who dislikes eye candy.
iPad's lack of multitasking is a weakness, but is also a strength, depending how it's used. On a mobile device, multitasking isn't as important. iOS obviously is very responsive, is arguably more stable, and with a simple UI for anyone to navigate. I wouldn't hand an Android tab to my non-tech parents, at least not without tutoring them in its use.
Each platform has its fortes and foibles.
BTW, as a public service for Prime users, consider this a request to the mod to close this thread.

+1 most kiddies on here think it takes 15minutes to prepare and cook and bake a rom/kernel/theme and it really pisses off some devs out there.
Ok I had to respond. I too own a Transformer Prime, new iPad and a ATT galaxy note. You can't honestly say you can't see a difference between screens. The iPads screen to me "27 YO Old 20/20 eyes" is farrrr crisper and clear. It seriously looks magazine page printed clear. Now before people get all hot in the pants I love my Prime too. But posting pictures or viewing a video over the web of course you aren't to be able to tell. All three devices have Pros and cons. Maybe if you had a super high end camera you could see the difference.
As a Prime owner for 2 months I was blown away by the new iPads screens as far as text clarity, zero light bleed, and very accurate color calibration and saturation. The note has the best color saturation but sometimes it looks overblown in movies. People's skin look pinkish etc. Wish I had the international version, you can change the picture mode like movie, standard etc. But the blacks on the Super Amoled are crushing the iPads LCD screen. So resolution isn't everything.
All three devices have their purpose. I haven't used a iPad since the 1st generation, and using it for a few days am impressed with its super snappiness, very fluid UI etc. So if your a person who likes to change your widgets, icon layout, live wallpapers than obviously the iPad isn't for you.
I bought it for the GF and play with it time to time. Especially using the direct tv guide app that android doesn't have yet. It's nice not getting hang up, or freezes or forces closes. But stil love the Prime and my Note. What the iPad is built to do, it does it well. I'll just say that.
And of course so does the Prime but it ultimately boils down to user preference. Not everyone like my GF needs to over clock, or add a custom rom etc...
One thing I've noticed that I like the iPad over the prime more is web browsing it the 4:3 ratio. Less scrolling and more content on the page. But.... Obviously the Prime wins for videos with its 16:10 and 16:9 ratio. But I only really use YouTube on my note, prime and iPad. The workhorse is my Samsung D8000 Plasma.
Please no ripping me, I gave honest non biased points. Good post thought. Do what I did use both for about a week. Than see if you feel the same. I too planned to return the iPad if we didn't like it. But I might hang onto it, along with my Prime. The GF wants too kill me, says I have too many gadgets. Prime, Note and iPad lol.

Whether I check throughout the day as well as email. I ride a motorcycle and live in Texas where thunderstorms come out of nowhere sometimes. I also work as a software developer where my current role is support of production systems handling millions of dollars a day so I check email constantly. For the news its mostly tech blogs and like to just read the blurbs to decide if I want to read the full article or not.

Well if you want to check your different updates (new mails on several accounts, agenda, twitter, facebook, news, weather, ... I could go on), you can see it all by just turning on your screen, instead of having to launch each app separately.
Also, it allows you to have widgets for shortcuts like switching wifi/bt/gps/... on and off with a single click, or anything else you might want to do without having to go through apps, menus, ....
If you don't see the advantage of that, then I can't help you..

I usually add widgets just to add them on my note and prime. The weather and clock is more important to me.
Compared to iOS using toggles can be helpful for wifi, gps etc. but 8 out of 10 times I'll click the actual app icon lol.

The note is sweeet I love it its perfect. tablet and phone with widgets. lol/jk it does have a really nice screen also. Did you root your note yet. If so what rom are you running? I cant decide yet just got it too. Oh the note is only turned up about half brightness by the way, it probably has the best display of all three. Today was a good day!

Yes, I have it rooted (got the international version). I'm currently running Stunner ICS. Awesome ROM. Very stable and issue free.

Well, obviously, if you define a scenario where such things are unimportant, then you're defining away the advantages of instant access to information. Now, most of the productive people I know need to have constant access to a wide variety of information, and indeed it's access to information that tablets (and indeed the iPad) are most often touted for. You know, how they can be used to get information quickly without resorting to booting a PC, etc.
So, if easy, fast, and convenient access to information is important, and widgets provide the easiest, fast, and most convenient access to it, then they should be pretty hard to dismiss as an advantage. This is why more and more reviewers are talking about how the iPad is nice hardware and has a smooth UI, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth in terms of the functionality provided by iOS.
I am very sad to say it but I have cancelled my order. I just cant justify paying what this phone costs for something that wont even let me use Android Auto and keeps switching Google apps to Oppo even after setting Google apps as default. I will continue to lurk and hope for a day when we see this phone released with a Global version. Thanks to everyone for all your answers and feedback, it is appreciated.
Anyone want to buy an Oppo light Gray case…should be arriving at my door any day now
You’ve done the right thing. No matter what someone else tries to tell you about rotation apps or how the general experience isn’t a problem, I’m sorry, but it is. You just saved yourself a crap load of money and I’m happy for you.
Mine is going up on eBay UK tomorrow if anyone is interested

It is interesting that you are active on this forum. This community is all about customizing devices, and making them do things they are not originally intended to do. If you come here, you will get recommendations on the same. For those that want a phone to just works, buy one from your carrier, for those that want to play with tech, and force it into submission, buy one that is not meant for your carrier, visit XDA, and get to work.
Also imapfsr has received the feedback they requested here, to include the recommendation to not buy the Find N.

Who says it’s about customisation? Do you make the rules? It’s nonsense to say ‘buy one from carrier’, what are you on about?
This person wants honest opinions, he does not want to waste over 1000 bucks for some person to say it works because they have downloaded an app on PlayStore to work around the devices limitations. Don’t worry he’ll wait for your analysis on Android Auto.
You say most of apps works, 99.999% would work fine, yeah OK….have you used every single one of PlayStores apps? Do you know every little UI issue on every single app? I doubt it.

For your first question... It's in the name "XDA-Developers", and if that is not enough it is in a statement on their home page.
Ask what you want, but if you are coming here to ask questions you should expect responses that include customizing. imapfsr was smart in coming here because they knew they did not want to do heavy customizations, and asked questions that lead to not buying the phone. You on the other hand seem mad that people are offering up solutions to these issues.
Last, if you want to quote me pay attention to context, it is important. My comment was this:
I said 99.9999% of apps would look fine in landscape mode, and to turn to portrait for the others. In a later post I offered to test specific apps for anyone that would like. This was in response to you complaining about the phone being in landscape by default.
Do you also complain about all the default portrait phones that force you to turn into landscape when you launch a game?

Your argument about games makes no sense - most games force landscape mode, that’s just games - most other apps don’t force landscape mode and most people aren’t playing games most of of the time on their phones, so that’s awful comeback.
Context doesn’t make your argument any more relevant. You have no idea that this % amount of apps ‘look fine’, stop pretending you know more than you do. Also why would offer to test apps? Who on earth do you think you are? Please calm your ego. You are a nobody. No one’s care about you testing anything.

And I thank you for that as well sir!
Hey you guys, nothing this trivial is worth arguing over, we have enough garbage to deal with nowadays to not get pissed over this. I appreciate everyone's help and feedback for and against. I am just looking for everyone's honest opinion and I always get that here without question. As I have stated previously I have messed around with phones since the original Mi Mix but I am passed the stage of wanting to do that anymore, I just want my phone to work...who knows, global version maybe or late news is looking like maybe the Google Pipet might be Find N like so we will see. Ideally that would be perfect...a Google foldable in the flavor of the Find N with pure Android...yes please
Thanks again to everyone!
You have made a great choice. Great hardware, poor software with way too many irritations. I sold mine 2 days after getting it.
Good luck to those jumping off; but I've been using the Find N a week now, and very happy with it (Fold is going on sale shortly). It's just an all around better package with better trade offs (for me) than my Fold. Every phone has trade offs, and it is true there are some things that might not work yet (Android Auto) and some that are annoying (aggressive battery); but with the Fold the form factor is just not quite right (for me), and it always felt like a folded in half iPad Mini which doesn't fit comfortably in the pocket; where the outer screen is too tall and the keyboard too narrow such that the outer screen isn't very usable; and then the weight in the hand is unwieldy due to the length. I can understand if there are deal breakers for some (such as for those where Android Auto is a must have), but so far there aren't any for me.
@conceptgate
What do you mean with "(Fold is going on sale shortly)"?
Do you mean the Oppo find N going on sale soon?

Haha got it! enjoy it
All Samsung Fold's are even not close to this phone's build quality, if this phone came with global version than for the moment no any fold can be a competitor.
