That's a good move by MMX. Along with it true a 5inch display, true octa core processor, 2GB RAM, 4G LTE and 3000mAh battery is also rumored to come in it. I hope Micromax will price it in range between Rs 20000 - Rs 25000.

[Q] MTK 6577 vs 6589

I am ready to take the plunge on generic Android phones. I need advise on whether to buy a MTK 6589 with RAM 1GB or MTK 6577 with RAM 2GB given all other specs the same? I believe both are in similar price ranges. I know 6589 is quad core and 6577 is dual core. I play very few games (if any at all) and sometimes watch youtube or downloaded movies.
My budget is sub US$200 (maybe US$150-US$180) including delivery.
Neither. Get yourself a Nexus 4.
Dont buy Mediatek Devices!
As much as I know Mediatek Devices are useless if you are going into development! Most of them dont have kernel sources and updated drivers Which I dont like.... You can buy MTK if it has all the sources available! Even Micromax Didn't release the kernel sources for Canvas HD A116 which was having MTK chipset! Though, Some Acer device had the same chipset so they released the kernel source which is now used by devs!
Another thing,
MTK Chipsets are really powerful! So if you only wanna use it for Daily Use and Gaming purposes then its Awesome! If you gonna go into the deep Android Development World then only buy if it has all source available
I just bought a Star N9589 quad core ram 1GB rom 8GB display 5.7" 1280*720 comes with 2 batts plus a 32GB micro sd card for US$225. Wish me luck.

I had this unit..and the dual core as well.
Try those GPU benchmark..(around half of the score of S4, HTC One etc)
I had a problem though...i can received sms but could not send any out.
Nevertheless....impressive.
(bluetooth, auto brightness, reasonable WIFI range...)

[Discussion] A116 Processor Unscrewed

My dear Canvas HD friends, Next time you boast about your Quad-Core processor to your HTC or Samsung friends, you might wanna watch your tongue. Because most branded phones come with a Cortex A9 or Custom ARM (Qualcomm Scorpion, Krait, etc.) processors. Whereas our Canvas HD has only a Cortex A7 processor. You may ask why? Well, that's because, A Cortex A7 based processor, even if it has the same clockspeed and Number of cores, When compared to a Cortex A9 based processor, the difference in architecture means a considerable difference in the performance of these processors.
Here is the comparisons.
A Cortex A9 is about 30% faster than a Cortex A7 processor. A Krait is over 70% faster than an A7 and a Cortex A15 is over 80% faster than an A7.
This means that a 1Ghz Cortex A9 processor is more powerful than a 1.2Ghz A7 processor and a 1Ghz Qualcomm Krait processor is more powerful than a 1.5Ghz A7 processor.
Our Canvas HD has MediaTek's MT6589 1.2Ghz Cortex A7 based processor. Not that it is slow. But you can compare it with other branded phones and know where it actually stands.
Source: How powerful is the new Quad-core Cortex-A7 MediaTek MT6589 processor? (check #7)
I was always wondering what's the difference between Cortex A7 and A9. I always knew something was missing. But my mind always chose to stick with Canvas HD is more powerful than Galaxy Grand. Today, I'm forced to accept the fact that Galaxy Grand (which is always compared with our Canvas HD), despite having only a Dual-core 1.2Ghz A9 processor, iis more powerful than a Canvas HD having Quad-core 1.2Ghz A7 processor.
More facts:
ARM's Cortex A7 is actually newer than A9. It is slower and more energy efficient than A9.
But, if you haven't noticed in galaxy s4.. even with a powerful processor like Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7, there is not much difference in the performance... but the htc one is amazing..

Galaxy S4 uses the Exynos 5 Octa-core processor. Although it has 8 cores (A Quad-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A15 processor + a Quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor), the phone uses only 4 at a time. A15 is powerful. Good for playing high resolution games. while A7 is energy-efficient. Good for Battery. So the phone uses the A7 processor most of the time and switches to A15 only when the pressure really increases. this is how it works. you won't see much difference in it's performance when you compare it with other phones, unless it starts running with it's A15 cores. A15 is the most powerful processor in the market right now.
Source: Galaxy S4: Samsung's 8-core processor explained
HTC One having Qualcomm's Quad-core 1.7Ghz Krait processor is almost equal in performance compared to the processor of Galaxy S4. because Qualcomm's Krait is 10% slower than the S4's Quad-core 1.6Ghz A15 processor. Not just that, the S4 even has the upper hand here since it is also energy efficient with it's A7 cores. Samsung totally rocks.
But if you use a116 and galaxy grand u will see the difference! Grand lags a lot and the UI is slow and laggy! My sister and 1 of my friend bought grand and within 5 days it got so laggy dat they sold it off! And this was with no apps installed! Only whatsapp!
bulls#it ... cortex a9 is not powerfull.. mediatek didnt use a9 over a7 because a9 is just little more powerful than a7 .. bt a9 eats a lot of battery.. and a7 is power efficient yet powerfull... do you think why samsung use 4 cores of a7 instead of a9 for power efficiency???
and atlast all the krait cpus are a15.... .most powerfull till now..

A9 dual core is as good as a A7 quad core processor...
But u hv noted a good point that A7 is battery efficient than A9 .. just because of the architecture.. and as it consumes less battery it gives slightly less performance..
And IMO mediatek did not include A9 because that wud make cost high and their target audience needs cheaper phones..Not because they r bothered about efficiency
Not to burst your bubble but ultimately UI is extremely important to determine performance, not just processor power. I have used both Galaxy Grand ( of a friend ) and My canvas HD , let me tell you that the Grand cannot be compared to Canvas at all. I can easily multitask on Canvas while Grand stutters and stumbles towards the finish line. And Grand has just 200-250 MB free ram usually while canvas has 450-500. Just try this, Play a Heavy Game like NFS or Nova , and come out to message on Whatsapp or open another application. 90% of the time Grand closes the previous app while canvas still has it. So, DONT compare the processors, compare the performance as a whole.
P.S - Check Antutu benchmark on both Phones, thank you.

Coming from a nexus phone , specs don't really matter for common use ,as long as ui is close to stock any phone will rock. I think grand sucks at this due to Twiz ui put a asop on it and it will rock ; this is what mmx did with their ui that's why so our phone is more fluid then others.

Grand VS Micromax
Lets be Fair enuf i brought my bro grand when it was newly launcher in india in month of feb ........
Wat I Found Remember both phones are runing on stock roms and are not rooted
Grand Duos OS android 4.2.2 With Touchwiz
Premium Look And feel
Lots of Sensors
Gps With GLNSS Locks Instantaneously
Aswme Twz Ui
Multi window ( awsme)
Con
Very Laggy
Restarts or Hangs After Often
Very Few Apps Supported ( For example games like real racing 3 and other subway surfer latest doesnt work)
This Grand Also Hangs with Other third Party launcher Like Apex and Nova
About
Mircomax A116 OS Android 4.2.1
Fluid Ui
Good looks
Faster Processor
good multi tasking
Games Run Very good leaving Few heavy games
Very Good Resolution Screen
Good App Support via play Store
Con
Very Bad Build Quality
Poor Quailty Screen Compare to OGS Glass in Xolo Q800 Wich Comes in far less price but with same spec
Bad Gps
Very Few Senors
No Magnetic sensors (i have magnetic sensor even in my samsung galaxy Apollo or i5801
Too Be Noted i tried Heavy launcher like Next launcher 3d with samsung like transition animation and also my Screen Is full of widgets also running heavy wallpaper which is My beach HD i haven't noticed and lag in micromax A 116
SO MICROMAX STILL BETTER COMPARED TO GRAND DUOS
I agree with that .. the only two major drawbacks I noticed about the 116HD , are one about the GPS it's too bad... takes a hell lot of time to work.. and then about the build quality... but the performance and battery backup is far better than I thought it would be...

Bro any quad core soc (a7 or a9) will have an upper hand on dual core soc..
Both in terms of battery usage and speed. So comparing grand with chd is not done..
And 1 more thing canvas hd is a budget quad core device if u need premium experience then go for nexus we didn't said that our device is better than nexus 4..
So stop comparing. If u have enough bucks than go for htc, apple etc.. U are not forced..
Cheers..

GRAND vs CANVAS HD
never go for numbers......its all about the user experience.....i am having both device for use (i own HD an my sis use GRAND) purchased within weeks...so as per my experience i can say CANVAS HD is better than GRAND in most of the fronts except camera and GPS (btw who use GPS on daily basis ???).... Grand is laggy as comapare to HD and most of the S features are just gimmick (rarely use, consume more battery)
My canvas HD is still smooth ...never face any lag while playing games (shadowgun, blood and glory, dead trigger, virtual tennis and lot more)
Grand do have samsung brand name with it but that brand name cost you 4-5k more.

Dont compare micromax with samsung. Micromax just a bull$#it when it comes to after sell service. If ur phone got damaged they will take minimum 1 month to repair it and maximum i cant say. My canvas 3d touch screen got damaged 1months ago and I did not get it back yet. They sell such a bellow quality products that they even cant repair themselve, they just change jobsheet number and say that another problem arised while replacing touch panel. Micromax may give better phone in cheper rate but never compare it with samsung. And this kinda problem is not only mine problem. Google it, many customers are facing this kinda worst after sell service from micromax. In my case canvas 3d got damaged within 3months of buying it and I bought samsung as I dont know when I will get back my phone. As I have another samsung galaxy y duos which I had before i bought mmx and that phone was running 1 year without any problem. Samsung far better than micromax in quality.
on my own experience.. even s4 have quad core processor, games like Modern Combat 4 she cant handle it perfectly
sometimes it lags..
so the point is how great the processor is.. nothing comes so smooth all time.. nothing perfect but just better

Man when u r buying a phone which costs more than 10k u should always take care of after sale service and mind satisfaction which u will never find with micromax. I have once got trapped by this company thats why I know about them well.

Same SOC, different fps?

Im considering the phones Micromax A74, Xolo A500s and Gionee P2, they all have the same SOC i.e. Mediatek mt6572 (dual core A-7, Mali-400MP)
Now the phones , A74 and A500s show 40+ fps on Nenamark 2, whereas gionee P2 shows 30+ fps on it.
The phones have the same amount of RAM - 512mb and run jellybean 4.2.2. (only diff A74 has a 4.5inch screen, whereas the others have 4.0inch screens)
So what is going on? yes the gaming performance is slightly better in reviews on the a74.. what gives?
1) did the manufacturer optimize the device to fake the benchmark score?
2)is it due to free ram availability, left after preinstalled apps?(the lag on games, i mean)
is nenamark 2 still a reliable indicator of gaming performance?

Low budget great android smart phone
