I am on my 3rd HTC One and the microphone is still having problems. I've read other threads and none seems to provide a solution to the problem. People I talk to can hear me if I use speakerphone or a headphone, but not if I'm just on the regular headset. People can't hear me unless I scream really loud. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm on stock rom.
Dumb question, does your headset have a mic on it? And have you made sure the volume is turned up with it connected?

My buddy is having the same issue. He is now on 4.3 and is still experiencing this issue. It's been occurring for a some time now. He is completely stock/never rooted. The phone itself has horrible mic quality when using the phone alone. If he turns on speakerphone or uses a headset the quality is crystal clear.
We did some playing around on how he calls and apparently it may be an issue with the noise cancelling sensor on the back of the phone (small hole). Try calling someone while covering and not covering this hole to test if your call quality improves. He ended up hold his phone while cuffing the back and it seems to be better. It's a dumb solution, but hopefully it works for you.
Does anyone know if there is an option to turn off noise reduction on the phone? Sorry for the question, i do not own an HTC One.

I am as of recent having a call volume problem. I can hear them and they can barely hear me. My only work around has been using speakerphone or if you can believe this plugging in a regular set of stereo headphones (no mic. I lost the headphones that came with the phone) and speaking into the regular mic hole on the bottom of the phone. Then for whatever reason my levels go up radically and they can hear me. I have tried all the "service mode" temporary code tweaks without any luck. I have rebooted just in case I had f'd up any of the settings to put them back to default. Any ideas people? What other info might you need for me to isolate this problem. I am running xipher's j16 rom and it was working fine before. Also, it's obviously not a hardware issue or the mic wouldn't work better in speakerphone or headphone mode.
anybody?
Jeez. Thanks guys
Dude I had a phone that did that I had to get a replacement its the microphone
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw
pinky over the mic?
I'm being serious... I have done it.
try another rom just to be sure. Any misbehaving apps?
I have just recently gotten a rezound about 3 weeks ago and I have noticed issues with my bluetooth. Not all, but most people I talk to on the other end say my voice is muffled and has lots of static. I can't figure out how to remove it. I've attempted turning everything off (wifi, gps,4g) and the static is still there. I've read about some people having issues on vzw site and HTCs site but haven't seen it mentioned anywhere here. I'm am running the latest ICS leak, which has nothing to do with it because the phone did it before I updated the firmware. This is all on a Plantronics M100 that worked flawlessly with my Dinc. If I can't resolve this I may have to return this phone for something else because I HAVE to have a working bluetooth. If anyone has a bluetooth that works great let me know and ill try it to see if I can get one that works. Who knows maybe this bluetooth doesn't like this phone. Anyways, thanks in advance...

I know what you are talking about. I use a samsung hm3500 for videos and audio because it supports A2DP. But it is also just a Bluetooth headset. Probably the coolest one I have found. Great for watching videos without headphones.
(Sorry that was me babbling)
Anyway, yes I have the same issue with the HM3500. People tell me my voice sounds muffled, but when I switch to the phone mic, it sounds much better. I assume it is just a low quality headset? I only paid #10 for it.
I use a jawbone era. It works the same on this phone as it does on my dinc and my charge.
I mean.. I MIGHT be the phone. Call and get a replacement, if its still a problem then get something else I guess.
The best thing to do to check it, is to call yourself and leave yourself a voicemail. Talk with the headset, turn it off and talk with out it. Go back and forth s few Times.
Repeat with the dinc.. compare the quality yourself. It has been my experience that other people are bad at accurately describing problems.

Quick troubleshooting
I have had occasional problems too on my phone, but the wife's does not.
Check how you hold the phone. There is a mic hole on the bottom edge you do not want to cover with a finger, I did. Take off the back cover and check that the mic hole is open, not clogged.
Does the audio input accessed by the keyboard (for voice recognition text input) hear you and work well? If that does not, the phone isn't picking up your voice. You could also try making a voice recording and playing it back to check the quality.
Try a bluetooth headset or car radio handsfree. If those work fine then the problem is likely with the phone/mic. That will involve a replacement.
Ill try the voicemail thing. The problem is with my bluetooth not the phone mic itself. When I switch to that people say I sound much better. I have tried several different ways of holding it with all the same result. I made several phone calls last night and some were land lines. My wife said one time I sounded staticky and the rest of the time it was better. Other calls I made the other people said static as well. I don't know what would cause it to be intermittent like this.

Bluetooth
I would try a different bluetooth set. I use mine with a bluetooth motor cycle helmet head set and it works just fine. Also with a Motorola stereo set sounds good to.
Ok really starting to get pissed at this Rezound. Got another headset to try and....same results. Callers on the other end say I sound extremely loud like my mouth is right on the bluetooth and the audio is very muddled. Why is this all the sudden a problem??? My other bluetooth worked great with my original incredible. If I can get this resolved I'm ditching this phone and getting something else because I NEED bluetooth. Someone please tell me a headset that works for theirs and I will try that one!

I just got my Verizon SIII yesterday and I am loving it so far. One thing I have found is a pretty major problem as callers complain of a very prominent echo when I take calls in my car. They can hear themselves echoing back while my end is perfectly clear.
In my car I use a simple car charger and the aux input through the headphone jack on the phone. This setup worked flawlessly with my Evo 4G. What I believe is happening is when I plug into the headphone jack on the SIII it immediately assumes that headphones are connected and therefore does not apply any kind of cancellation to prevent feedback from the car stereo. The callers voice goes through the stereo, right into the microphone, and right back to the caller with a several second delay. Very annoying.
If this is indeed the case, is there any way to fix this? As I said above, my Evo 4G did not have the problem nor did my old Blackberry Storm.
dear Lord... audio goes into phone, through your aux cable, straight into the speakers. Your speakers then produce noise.. you know, that thing your phone detects to sense when you are talking? And it echoes because that person is hearing their own voice through your speaker. Your evo either had an amazing noise canceling Mic or a sucky normal microphone which didn't pick up the noise being broadcast. Just unplug your phone and put it on speaker if you are that worried about it, or do what I do and tell them tough sh*t and deal with it

I am familiar what the problem is. I am not stupid and I do not expect to be treated as such. There are ways of eliminating the echo just as the phone does when it is on speakerphone. Obviously it is doing something to eliminate the echo when it is on speakerphone that it does not do when plugged into the aux jack. I can't be the only one that wants to use the phone in the car with this setup.
The Evo doesn't even have a noise cancelling mic. It simply applied the same processing while plugged into the aux jack as it did when using speakerphone to prevent the feedback.
I don't know why I even bother asking questions here because I usually get a smart ass useless response. I thought this was a forum full of enthusiasts that like to hack at things and solve problems.

Here's the thing butter cup, all the good ones are out working on important things that the masses of people want while you are complaining about something that can be fixed literally by a quick yank. That's why I am having such a short temper with you. I have very little intolerance for ignorance.

I'm sorry for expecting my brand new flagship phone to be capable of something my 2 year old phone could do... The speaker phone is not loud enough to hear clearly on the highway. Sorry, that's not a solution.

Yeah got the same problem to, i use 2 do the same thing with my xperia x10, there were no problem. Since both our old phones didnt have noise cancellation program, maybe on our sgs3's we should disable noise cancellation

I tried turning noise cancellation on and off and it didn't make a difference. It will not allow me to toggle that when a headset is connected. Hopefully someone around here has a similar problem and will be nice enough to present a solution. If there is no solution then I'll have to figure something else out. Would the Samsung bluetooth clip device do it?
At some point last week while out of the country I was using Groove IP to make wi-fi calls (as I often do) but the earpiece volume started messing up and I couldn't hear things through it anymore and started using headsets and the speakerphone for calls. So I removed that app and started using Talkatone but the condition remained.
Now that I am back home and removed Talkatone as well, I find that I can't hear anything out of the earpiece on regular phone calls either. Bluetooth is fine and earbuds are fine and the speakerphone is fine, but I can't hear a thing through the phone's earpiece (and yes, the call volume is all the way up).
I tried reinstalling both apps and checked the various settings but can't find anything wrong. I also did a soft-reset but no help.
Anyone have any ideas, aside from a hard-reset? This is my second One X+ in six weeks and really hope it isn't a hardware problem.
Thanks.
Did you ever solve this problem? Experiencing the same thing on an HTC One X+ I was given. Speakerphone works fine, but the in-call speaker is totally silent.
My son had an iPhone 4s that had this problem. It was rumored being too forceful with the headphone plug broke the jack to board connection and a signal trace to the earpiece. The phone was replaced under warranty.
Good chance it's physical damage but unless you have a soldering setup for fine work you have few options.

I am having a weird issue. People have been complaining that they cannot hear my voice clearly on the call, or its very low. I need to be very loud for them to hear me alright. I tried all different radios and it was the same.
I figured out that if I cover the noise cancellation mic on top with my finger and talk, they can hear me perfectly fine even if i am not loud. Is this a know problem and is there anyone facing similar issues? I will appreciate any help
Thanks.
Edit: I have also tried different roms, both stock and kitkat.
