I heard rumor of kit kat 4.4 becoming available for htc one max on Dec 25th. Any confirmation to this? If so, will we need to do anything to a rooted phone to get the oTA update?
where did you hear that?
and, generally speaking, if you want a factory update, you need to bring your phone back to its stock state..
Don't expect kit kat until after the release of the M8

Sounds like that article is for Asian versions of the phone.
Maybe the One Max will be different, but on my wife's rooted, unlocked bootloader, & s-off Galaxy Nexus, installing KitKat meant I could either lock on to 3G and make phone calls or obtain 4G lock only but couldn't do both. I stayed up half the night researching it, and apparently KitKat was having problems playing nice with custom rooted devices. I finally had to drop back to 4.3 for the Nexus to operate correctly.
Again your experience could be different, but at least do your research before going forward if/when we ever receive KitKat.
the OS you are on has nothing to do with it; the only thing that matters is whether you are on a GSM network, or a CDMA..

Don't worry HTC is not going to make their phone & software that bad
I guess it's because the software for the GNex, the AOSP guys would fix those soon

On the second thought, The HTC one already has 4.4 for the dev versions and i have not heard any complaints on root.
Everything I am reading says the One max, is essentially a One with a bigger screen and a fingerprint scanner. Will the One custom roms not work at all on the max? If all the hardware is essentially the same, why wouldn't it work with some ppi tweaks?
BTW, not sure about the Galaxy Nexus, but I have tried two different variations of Kit Kat 4.4 on my One, and both work flawless. I am running the Beanstalk variant now.

I found this about kitkat 4.4 http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-taking-aim-at-device-modders-in-android-4-4-kitkat/
A very interesting read, glad I got my phone before 4.4 was actually released.

That being said, HTC tends to be a little more friendly to the modders. And seeing as there are a bunch of 4.4 roms on the one, I will be shocked if you all don't see a custom 4.4 within a couple of weeks.
Surely Max won't be long for KitKat since the normal One unlocked and dev had it already!

I have been kind of looking around for a few days and i have seen people having a few issues and i have seen several roms but im hoping you guys can answer me a few questions.
Is there a SafeStrap like app that works with this phone? I am coming from a BIONIC and that was really nice to have.
Is there a vanilla android rom or is it all stock modified?
Lastly are there any known issues i should be aware of?
Thanks guys.

1)There is a DNA version of CWM and TWRP
2)not at this time
3)You should be aware that there is a high chance your phone will come with the latest update installed. At this time there is no root or Bootloader unlock for that. Be prepared to run stock sense for a bit

No vamilla roms but its being wotked on. Check original development forum. It's coming along.
As for issues i haven't experienced much but hot reboots are more common on custom roms than in previous phones. I haven't experienced it but lots of people in forum have. My previous phones are droid 3 and galaxy nexus for reference

Cn10 and 10.1 are being worked on, but aren't at a state that would be useable as a daily driver for most people.
I don't know if you can call it an issue but if your phone has the ota you won't be able to root it.

Do you have any experience with them on the DNA? I tried using some on a phone before and it totally screwed up the phone even tho it was in the supported list.
Thanks all for the replies. So it looks like this is a pretty rock solid phone besides the audio sync issues then, or have those been resolved as well.

I had the Droid Razr and used safestrap, actually just found it in a backup folder on my laptop, anyway no "safestrap" for the DNA but yes on recovery just like safestrap. I have used both. The DNA is still a WIN phone if you can root or not. MY Razr was great and I love the DNA, no SDcard was a bummer, 16GBs is fine with me tho.
#1 thing you want to look for is the 1.15 under settings/about/software information 3rd line from the top, if you're lucky it'll say 1.15..xxxxxx if it says 2.04.605.2 710RD we are currently waiting for DEVs to figure out if they can unlock the bootloader. Now if you can buy a DNA with 1.15 you can unlock and root that on that version or unlock that version, keep the unlock.bin file then upgrade to 2.04 then unlock with that unlock.bin from 1.15 and finally root and do what you like.
If you go to Verizon to buy the phone just don't let them update it. Tell them you heard its buggy and you'll wait for the next one or what ever, tell them you won't buy it if it's updated, just don't let them update it.
Hope this helps. Its a good phone regardless.
Please! Please!

That's an informative thread tusctwo, but rooting aside it's still a kickass phone. These guys will get it. Anything is crackable. I bought the DNA before I new it could be rooted and was very happy with it. Rooting was just a bonus to let me do alil more with the phone. It is not the end of the world if one cannot root, plus there is always sending it away to be JTAGGED=rooted and S-off, it's a win win situation either way.
Thanks for the info guys. Ill definitely check the version before i buy.
Didnt realize this does not have an SD card, that may be a deal breaker for me. (I need some place to store all my midget porn! :laugh
In all serious ill have to think about the no SD thing.
Also the HTC overlay is a huge turn off for me. Why do they have to make that thing so draining? Ughh. I had a friend with an HTC phone and it was night and day difference when we loaded a vanilla rom on there. Same with my HTC tablet. The Sense UI is cool looking but geez the amount of resources it sucks up is crazy.
So is the Internal storage partitioned like the BIONIC? 8 GB for os and then the other 8 for whatever?
I am coming from a BIONIC and this is the only phone that it makes sense to even consider upgrading to right now. The rest are pretty much the same specs. Dual core 1gb ram. The 2gb ram is huge for me. I hate having barely 100 mb free all the time.
After a complete, initial first boot, setting up, etc, you will have just over 11 gb to use as you please.

You'll have 11 gigs of space.
And sense isn't a huge hog, and hasn't been for over a year now. It doesn't stutter and I usually have 500 mb to a gig of free ram.

I came from a Thunderbolt which had the old Sense on it and the new Sense 4+ is a ton better in comparison. I use apex as my launcher so my home screen isn't dependent upon the limitations of any manufacturer launcher... but the HTC apps (phone, contacts, and especially mail) are all way better than stock android IMO. And I really like the Sense lock screen which has great quick launch apps.
Just my opinion and all, but if you're using the old Sense as a foundation for opinion then I would suggest checking out the new version.
Also I'd like to point out the camera on this thing... it's phenomenal. I love the ability to take full res photos while recording 1080p video.
One more point... if space is an issue I would suggest using the free SyncMe app in the play store to copy your pics and video into a folder on your PC wirelessly and on a schedule (mine runs at 4am when I'm sleeping)... then you can take them off of the phone and still have them saved. If you sync it with your Google Drive folder then all of the pics and video will still be available on your phone as well.
I hope this helps a little.
My advice.. the DNA is not worth it at this point. It is not going to have official Sense 5 support.. and it's already locked down pretty bad at the moment. Also, you are not wrong about Sense 4+ on this device. it lags and stutters at times.. I swear to god the app switching is even slower than double-clicking the home button and switching apps on the iphone!...The quad-core is probably good only if you are running quadrant scores periodically to feel happy about a "powerful" phone.. but otherwise for everyday usage.. the phone is simply not up to snuff for that kinda hype and money.
You are better off buying a Motorola Razr HD (even though it's got a ****ty camera compared to dna). ..

I have no clue how you can make this phone stutter.
And for app switching, that's why you root your phone. The sense 5 one is amazing.

Any updates on when T-Mobile, if at all, plans to release Android 4.2.2 or 4.3 for the HTC One?

My guess is that we'll get the same OS that is on the HTC One Mini, and we'll get it when the Mini hits T-Mobile stores.

It's htc and tmobile. I wouldn't count on an update until at least it's 2 versions behind. Look to the fall for 4.2.2 and don't count on anything beyond that. Just my opinion so take it for what it is, but look at HTC's track record and u will see.

Yeap agreed with you. Though really I'm fine with being on 4.1 right now, I ran Android Revolution for about a month but the lack of Wi-Fi calling/texted is killing me. Once the RUU gets updated i'll flash it and run that till they release a version of 4.2 so mike can integrate Wi-Fi calling with ARHD. 4.2.2 really only had a few things that make it better, mainly using home button as a menu key to get rid of the three dot lower menu. 4.3 doesn't have too many killer features either so i'm not in a huge rush for it, i'd be fine with them skipping over it and just having 5.0 ready to go whenever it comes time.
4.3 adds performance boost, would be nice to see this instead of 4.2.2 hitting America, but in the end id rather see key lime pie over anything

Reddit doesn't have "copy link" option or something like this.
WiFi calling would be the biggest draw backs in changing the Rom. There is ARHD that supports WiFi calling. The downside would be that it's 4.1.2
Other than that, it is far superioir than the stock T-Mobile.

Nobody knows how they act and what they will release... Look at Kernel Stuff e.g.
If they won´t release newer sources for kitkat and next sense, they will hopefully give devs the necessary driver for AOSP ROMS !
4.2 has started rolling out for HOX/HOX+ , Samsung is skipping 4.2 update for s3 and note 2 and these devices will directly receive 4.3 update, Might be the same case with hox devices? As 4.2 has rolled out, they might skip 4.3 and directly launch 4.4 as it has low ram requirements too.

4.4? You have to be freaking joking. Half of us (including everybody in CID 044 Southeast Asia) still don't even have 4.2.2, close to seven weeks after it first started rolling out.
There is zero chance HTC will give any of us 4.4. And it has nothing with inability to run it; it's because they couldn't give a flying hoot, even about their supposed flagship devices.
If you buy from HTC, you're a sucker. I won't be doing so again.

No, Talking about Intl. Model, Ofcourse ONE will go 4.4 as its their current flapship. they should do 4.4 for one series as HTC has less no. of Top Notch cellphones in the market compared to samsung, So Sammy wont pay attention to all of its devices. Whereas HTC has handful, After ONE, its Its HOX/HOX+ and the remain one series. Thats what i am saying :fingers-crossed:

4.2 might be the last update for HOX/HOX+.
We WONT be getting kitkat the X+ is end of life

Honestly, I believe that 4.4 will be the end of the road for us. I believe that they will give out 4.4 by the summer of 2014 and skip 4.3 entirely.
However as for Hox and Hox+ sense 5 and 4.2.2 , it's been released for a month now and if you hadnt received it you should quite soon, so don't give up.
The reason for my speculation. Is that HTC announced that they will try to satisfy their old customers and roll out updates for older devices. And the one x+ isn't that old yet.
Hopefully we will get it

In a couple of days, it will have been seven weeks since 4.2.2 first came out for some CIDs. That's nearly two months, not a month.
You know you are not getting 4.4 when it comes from Lloir. But maybe someone can make Rom carrying sense 6 with 4.4? Come on guys lets not give up. X+ is a beast phone, and it's worth developing.
I am still learning programming (java) and so forth and so on but once I could I will work on the development of this phone.
As for the previous post for my CID I got the update around the 22nd of august which is a month, but it wasnt meant to be accurate. Well if we aren't getting 4.4 I think we will get 4.3 atleast ?

We won't get it, as we need new tegra 3 drivers and if you haven't noticed nvidia have moved onto tegra 4
Sent from my One X+ using Tapatalk 4
Ooooh good! The read of the night "OS update and the relation to the Processors" , a bit of an off-topic question, but the drivers of Tegra 3 that you are all talking about means that the Android SDK is updated by the processor drivers?

Tegra is not only the CPU, its the chip set in the device, also nvidia need to update the kernel or provide HTC the drivers to get a newer android to work on the device. Which they won't support as I said tegra4 is released so little point to them to support it
Sent from my One X+ using Tapatalk 4
But then again, the 2012 Nexus 7 is a Tegra 3 device and I doubt Google won't push and insist for 4.4 on it.
So I guess Nvidia will support Tegra 3, and it would be up to HTC to decide whether to update the HOX(+) or not.
Zero development for the verizon htc one max? nobody can port htc one roms or anything? cant get any better then stock 5.5? what is the deal i would think there would be at least one rom by now. i would also die for a kernel lol
Phone barely came out 2 weeks ago and was only soff (more importantly bootloader unlocked) about a week later. As someone else noted dont expect aosp with htc phones (because they lag in putting out source). Having said that...
Murrda is about to put out 4 stock versions and I know at least one person has CM11 on the way.
What do you want exactly??? Roms for the sake of roms or are you looking for specific mods/hacks/tweaks???

I was searching the internet when I came across this on Reddit. Should we look forward to seeing Official kitkat on our devices or just turn our head away from now? What are your opinions?
"To address an issue that’s top of mind for many folks here, we recently announced that we wouldn’t be updating the HTC One X and One X+ beyond Android 4.2. Without the support of our chip manufacturer Nvidia, it made a global update of One X and X+ devices impossible. However, in US the One X uses the Qualcomm chip and an upgrade would be possible, but we didn’t think it would be a good experience for our customer base to update the X, but not the X+. This update caused a huge stir amongst owners and we’ve heard you loud and clear, so we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4."

If they decide to selectively update the Qualcomm versions of One X (the AT&T one and probably the One XL) they'd only create even more disappointment and rage amongst users. Sure, the ones getting the update will be happy.
And about the X+, none of the devices would get the update, because all versions of the X+ use the Nvidia chipset.
Tegra 3
What I don't get is that how can we still have Android 4.3/4.4 roms for the One X+ yet HTC says they can't develop roms because Nvidia no longer supports this chipset.
The main issue is the kernel and drivers . in most cases these have been back ported from 4.3 so although they work its not optimum

They didnt teh statement read

So they never said the Nvidia powered devices where being looked at. If we want updates we should be pestering Nvidia to continue tegra3 support
As far as I understood it they meant that an update to 4.3 would only be possible on the OneX, that's why the try to find a way to update to 4.4 on both devices.
Otherwise it would be pointless to say that they don't want to update the OneX, but still wanting to find a way to update to KitKat..

Lets's see if HTC will suprise us in a positve way.
It only concerns the Qualcomm version of the One X. The HOX+ will not be updated, the Tegra 3 variant is not supported by Nvidia. And of course, HTC did not think to pressure them to offer support, so...
Why are people getting angry about the phone being discontinued? A new update could mean a new HBOOT and new touch firmware a patches for things that we have exploited for our ROMS. Look at the 3.18 update.

Drippler has a article now that seems to state HTC is reconsidering to update to kitkat for one x and one x+.
One other gem from this AMA, which will have HTC One X and One X+ owners very happy, is that HTC is now reconsidering updating these phones to Android KitKat. This is a pretty big backflip considering HTC came out and officially said that the phone would not be supported past Android 4.2.2, but I think we can all agree this change a good thing.

I think we should just sit back and wait...
HTC's rep and sales has gone sideways, so in my opinion, well.... Pretty much said.

Exactly. I see that the update thing went during the reddit session many times. I think they realize we are unhappy with this decision and maybe they will try to talk with nvidia about that.
Sweet dreams.

Its the same source as the rest of the news so i think its just taken out of context. My reading of what was said is its just the Qualcomm handsets that are being revisited as nvidia have dropped open support for the tegra3

Yes, only the US (Qualcomm) version of the One X is being investigated for an update.
And if you look through the comments, you will see that HTC responded loud and clear:
"For the HTC One X in the US (diff chipset than global version), we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4."
HERE is the link for this.

From my knowledge, we didn't exploit anything as per say. With the new HBoot you just have to unlock the bootloader which is a service provided by HTC itself and flash a recovery which is a job for our devs which shouldn't take a while to find a solution to. What you said would be an issue if it was S-Offed or close to an S-Off so the update might cause a threat to that exploit but seeing as this didn't happen/not close to happening I dont think thats a problem.
I honestly am not in a hurry to get a new phone since I know that my HOX+ is good for me, however I would be quite happy if we can have access to sense 5.5 with the kitkat features. I like blinkfeed and with the options found on the One I think i will love it more.
YAY! Guess what I just bought?!
Not really bothered about not getting a KitKat update even though it would be nice, because I don't want it being bogged down by sense.
I'll have a look at what's available homebrewed on here and continually moan about it on Elevate
