take/display (3D) stereoscopic pictures, lenses for the note 3 thread - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

Using 2 pictures that were taken side by side to generate Stereoscopic /3D images for the viewer are nearly as old as black and white photos, later the viewmaster was a known barandname and today smartphone with sufficient display resolution can are used instead. Most of the crowdfounding projects and already available products are for iphones.
While a case with lenses for viewing the stereoscopic pictures is less problematic as long as the display and case fit in the existing slot, at best you don't need them at all. A few allow, by changing lenses, to use the adapter to view the whole display like you would a large TV screen.
Taking stereoskopic pictures or addind using additional external lenses e.g. to simulate form a microscope, telescop or adding a stereoscopic splitter that allows to take stereoscopic pictures with the notes camera have to the match the optical characteristics.
I have been searching the past days and found Wide Angle, 8 - 16x and Microscopic lenses but not adapter that allow to take and view stereoscopic pictures. Does anyone own or has tried iPad addons on the note?

[Q] HDR Photo and HDR Video

I don't know if you guys know what is an HDR Picture is, but it is a very nice picture, even the iPhone 4 have it on their phone and they only have 1 camera on the device.
HDR is capable by taking images in diferent exposures and then combine it.
HDR video is capable by using two diferent cameras at the same time using the same as above.
Now that this device, the EVO 3D, is capable of doing 3D imaging and video, it will be nice of doing HDR too.
I have a feeling that it will be capable if you program both cameras take diferent exposures at the same time and then combine the photo/video for an HDR to come out.
What do you guys think?
Anyone knows something about it?

I'd be interested in hearing how you could do HDR using both cameras since they're both seeing two different perspectives. The cameras need to see the exact same thing, or it would look terrible. Current real-world examples of capturing HDR video with 2 cameras is done using a beam splitter, which you would not be able to use with the EVO 3D since you can't correctly aim each camera at the beam splitter.
I was kinda hoping you could take 3D images, and then view each 2D image separately... In regards to doing pure 2D photography, I'd love to see HDR as well, and even multiple focal points... imagine a video being recorded with a close focus, and an infinite focus, that you can use software to pan between on-the-fly, (and after-the-fact.) I think that would be awesome.
I would be surprised if the iphone4 can do HDR very well, honestly. I just purchased a Canon S95 and without a tripod it is nearly impossible. You get all sorts of ghosting.

What would you like to see/think would be cool/only possible with the Evo 3D?
1. Dual focus images: Not sure how well this would work or how well the effect would even be perceived, but independently focus each camera when taking a 2D image (obviously requires someone to figure out how to use both cameras in 2D mode). Possibly result in a easy Tilt Shift photo.
2. 10mp image: Doubt this one is even possible really, but stitching an image from each camera together.

#2 won't work.
5mp+5mp doesn't = 10mp
10mp would be like taking the first 5mp shot and attaching the 2nd 5mp shot by a corner to one of the corners of the first shot.

Assuming the boxes with the 1's in them are 5mp each, a 10mp box would be made by making lines enclosing the 2 other boxes - where the X's are.
With the 2x5mp cameras, you'd only have 1/2 the data necessary to create a 10mp picture.

I think it would be cool to invert the 3-d...
To take a picture of someone's head and "pop it inside out" so that their nose was the furthest point AWAY from you, rather than the closest.
I don't know if this would be as simple as swapping the two images or not - so the right displays on the left and the left displays on the right.
Nothing like playing with someone's mind by inverting the way they think the world is and showing it to them =D
Kalah, 5mp+5mp does indeed equal 10mp. Your way of thinking is a little skewed though. The pictures would come up essentially the same way the 3d pictures will be displayed on the phone normally (ignore the - signs, they are just for formatting since the site will delete extra spaces):

Alright... Kindof.
You can get 10mp across, but your vertical resolution wouldn't increase. You'd get some really wide pictures.
To double the size of a photo, you have to quadruple the pixels... Not double them.
I'd love to see some great high quality 3D Augmented Reality apps that incorporate 3D. I'm sure there would be good money interactive 3D AR. I know it's cheesy and all, but those little pet games are very popular (personally not a fan). One thing that I would find absolutely fantastic is an app that allows you to draw or create cool 3D shapes in AR. When you close out of the app, all your drawings save and when you open it again you can continue creating awesome stuff and building an alternate digital reality splattered with your creativity. And it would be vital to add in a feature so you can add friends so you can share your world with them.

1) both images are offset as they are taken from different points, wouldn't work
2) again, different angles of the same image, wouldn't work

turn the phone upside down
or, open the mpo file in something like "stereophoto maker" (freeware), press "x" (swaps images round) and save the new mpo file back to the phone. (am sure there will be an app to do this eventually)

Again, you don't really understand what "megapixels" means. It is already width x height in the picture. Example: 1000 px x 1000 px = 1,000,000 px or 1MP
If you double one dimension, you double the MP of a photo. I didn't say you made it "twice as big." Yes, I agree that when people say twice as big they usually mean twice the height and twice the width, which is really 4x as big.
on to a different camera idea i just thought about.....
you know when you try to take a picture inside of a moving subject and it always blurs due to lights and ****. wonder if you could make an app that fires the cameras a split second from each other and you can choose one of the better pics

You could also do something like this (ignore "-" sign):

11111 + 22222 = 1*1*1*1*1* -where each "*" is a virtual pixel value, which is
11111 - 22222 - *2*2*2*2*2 -approximated by taking some sort of average
11111 - 22222 - 1*1*1*1*1* -between the neighboring (left right bottom)

simplest approximation would be * = (right + left +top + bottom)/4.
Using two camera for 2d shoot can have only benefit in focus and sharpness, because 80% of picture is same on bouth cameras
The 3D is nice and all, but the dual camera seems like it ought to have real potential:
1) HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos
2) Accurate? distance measuring
3) 3D model generation
4) Facial security for lock screen - 3D based, so can't be faked with a photo
5) "Corrected" 2D photos - use the differences between dual photos to filter out artifacts? Better low light photos / night vision?
6) Action shooting (alternate cameras for faster snap shotting?)
7) "Hand" lock screen? (take a 3D photo of your hand, to unlock your phone?)
Just throwing stuff out there I haven't a clue on how to actually create any of those, or even if they're possible.

Try fast burst camera from the market. Doesn't use both camera's but takes pictures quite fast.

i thought creating 3D icons... and use the 3D cam. to create a wallpaper of the image the camera see in 3D in combination i think that looks cool.

3D Video Chat!
We already have 3D video recording so something like live video chat does not seem like too much of a leap. Most video chat programs don't support the front camera of the Evo4g let alone the Evo3D. Having a program that specifically targets the Evo3D for 3D video chat would be an amazing feature to compliment this awesome phone.

What video chat apps don't support the 3D's front camera? Yahoo, Tango, Fring, Skype, and Qik all do, that only leaves Oovoo. Plus the front camera won't do 3D, it wouldn't be video chat, you could stream live in 3D though.

[idea]Camera app

A camera app to create extended dynamic range image using the two camera sensors. Similar to what HDR does by creating 3 images: underexposed, normal and overexposed, but instead two images: slightly underexposed and slightly overexposed. The advantage would be that the two images will be taken at the same time thus minimizing the delay typically required for HDR where the three images are taken one by one.
What do you think? Any suggestions?

Correct me if i'm wrong but I dont think that HDR capturing requires precision in position when taking subsequent images. I know that on original EVO the HDR images come out pretty good even when the capturing position of subsequent images is displaced by a small amount.
Some idea: it can be used for capturing two photos with some time delay so you can choose between two pictures
I'd love it...ANYthing to improve image quality!

3d photos

Hello,
have anyone found a way to capture 3d photos? Facebook has rolled out 3d photo capturing for dual camera phones, but I don't think g5 will get that feature.
I use phogy but it's a bit old and outdated.
In order to take 3d photos, we would need two identical cameras. The two cameras of our phone are too different for the view angle and for the sensor size and quality.
The software would need to know how to deform the wide angle photo to make it look like the one taken with the main camera, and I think they still would not match perfectly.

Well, you can still get 2d image + 3d depth mapping from different dual camera. LG g7, v35, V40 (with matching 78° & 107° camera) will support this Facebook 3d format soon

Fix for Focus issue on LG G8X (Front Camera)

Hello there, this is dedicated to all my photographers and videographers of LG G8x.
First things first, no matter what how many times you complaint them the problem is not fixable through software updates because front camera have fixed focus.
So i think there is no other option than this.
Case 1: (Professional phone photographers)
Guys if you are carrying a 35mm or 50mm then mount it to the front camera and zooming 1.5x is the solution for shooting 4:3 aspect ratios and only 1.2x zoom for 9:16 or higher aspect ratios.
+ Get lot of blur or shallow depth of field.
+ Can use Canon or Nikon lenses to achieve high end quality. Plus features if your lens have OIS, UV protection etc.
- Weight is a problem.
- Zooming 1.5x makes photo to loose its quality a little bit (especially in nights).
Case 2: (Cheap solution)
This is an inexpensive solution, get yourself a wide angle lens for under 200 rupees for indians and under 2 US dollars.
Buy that 3 in one lens and use the wide angle and zoom 1.2x for 4:3 aspect ratio and 1.1x for 9:16 or higher aspect ratios.
+ Very Cheap
+ Light Weight
+ Less zoom means lesser quality reduction
- No quality lenses are used, little bit lesser color reproduction.
Buy anywhere online by typing 3 in 1 lenses for phone.
Hope this would help you out, if helps don't say thanks but help me find a solution to record 1080p 240 fps video with zooming (stock camera doesn't allow zooming in that setting)
Filmic pro is not working for slow motion .

why you actualy need to zoom ,just crope the video after recording done ,using a video editor.
our device didn't have an optical zoom even in photo mode if we zoom 8x it just uses its digital zoom.
you just click a pic at 8x and same pic at 1x then you crop the 1x pic to 8x then compare 8x pic vs croped pic. result will be same:fingers-crossed:

I appreciate your idea but actually thing is when you film it with no zoom and crop it later, same results i agree. But you won't get the flexibility of knowing what exactly you ate shooting, you can't see the full sized video as a reference while shooting.
1) You barely see the depth.
2) Hard to manage White balance and Exposure.
I do need some other working apps that would support this phone zooming while filming at 1080p 240fps.
Tried many of the popular apps
Google Camera, Filmic Pro, Moment pro camera, Proshot, Hedge camera 2, (MiUi 11 Camera, Oneplus Camera- Stock).
