"Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue" - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I was on MK2 and I download safestrap beta 3.65. I then rebooted into recovery and tested creating a rom slot which worked. I then tested the reboot to recovery and then the safestrap splash menu came up, and then black screen. I tried to Odin back to MJ7 but it failed. So pulled the battery, powered on and now I am at "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue".... ??

not sure what to say but I don't think SS 3.65 is compatible with 4.3 base systems which MDK2 and MJ7 both are. Were you trying the beta version that hash is developing?? As for the odin issue, I'm not sure about what you have encountered....did you use the stock MJ7 image file??

Yes I used the beta. I got the MJ7 image file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507217

I just used odin again and it finally worked

What build are you on? You could try getting back into odin mode by taking out the batttey for 30 seconds then pressing home volume down and power until odin mode pops up. What Safesrtap were you using?

[Q] Screwed up recovery on MK2 phone goes to ODIN downloading screen ?

When I first got my second GS4 (about 6 months ago) I rushed to root it and install a recovery (forgetting that the MK2 build has a locked bootloader) I attempted to flash CWM with ODIN and now if I boot to recovery it goes straight to the ODIN Downloading screen. The phone is still fully functional other than the recovery and it is rooted. Since screwing it up I've been looking for a way to fix this I know that i should have used the LOKI method to flash CWM. Is this something that i could fix by flashing stock firmware? or am I out of luck? Thanks.

If your phone is NOT mdk base...you can not use loki or goo manager or rom manager or twrp. Safestrap only can be used. To clean up the mess mostly requires odin of the clean image of your firmware mk2.

Flash the stock recovery IMG in odin
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
I suggest the full wipe method located here. Put in ap slot of odin.

Thanks Tulsadiver I'll give that method a try ... and Thanks to decaturbob for the warning about LOKI, I must have missed that when I was reading over the thread ... I probably would have screwed up my phone again.

I was trying to return to Verizon stock firmware and used odin 3.10 (first time) I have NC5 with Hyperdrive ROM. I tried SCH-1545_20140330160240_yni63xq6zh.zip and SCH-1545_20140330160240_8il7ls9o2_fac.zip.
Now my phone booted into "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I have finally was able to boot into download mode but odin flashes fail. I tried to used Kies but nothing works, it does not recognize the phone.
I did notice that there is a small blue dot where the download progress line is. Does anyone know what I can try?

OC5 update questions?

ok I odin back to stock NH7...
took the ota to NK4...
then took ota to OC5..
everything is cool but a few questions...
Does cf auto root work on OC5 I didnt see the file on his site?
Which recovery works best CWM Philz or TWRP ? and im sure i need a lolipop compatible one?
Waanum xposed for 5.0 ready yet?
Root, debloat, and enable wifi hotspot are usually my main goals...
Definitely looking for a Lolipop hotspot Mod?
Is it just me or does the notification panel have to be touched at the top to be dragged down? ( All previous builds I could set a gesture swipe down to bring down notifications.
I mean it doesnt work on NOVA or Lightning Launcher?
So cf auto root for oc5 yes,for recovery I'm using twrp 2.8.6.1 and is working just fine, and so for right now exposed is not working on samsung based roms but if you have an aosp rom even if it is for samsung it may work and for free wifi hot spot you can use galaxy tools(idoneapps) i don't remember about notification panel since I'm on darklord rom.
hmmmm. Which CF tar did you use?

Go here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522638 and grab nk4 tar.
1. Odin'd stock NK4 tar using Odin3 v3.09 in the AP slot (kept Auto Reboot & F. Reset Time checked).
2. Let phone reboot. Skipped all the setups.
3. Powered down phone than booted into stock recovery to perform a factory reset.
4. Once phone rebooted I went to 'System Updates' and let the OTA do its thing. Phone rebooted.
5. Powered down phone and rebooted into bootloader (everything showed official)
6. Odin'd TWRP using Odin3 v3.09 in the AP slot (UNCHECKED Auto Reboot & F. Time checked).*
7. Pulled battery and rebooted into recovery (TWRP).
8. Flashed Chainfire's UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46 and rebooted.
9. Successfully rooted.
This isn't my instructions. I'm just copying and pasting from the general section.
http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ here you go look for ms-900p it will say nh7 4.4.4 but you can use it to root your sprint note 3 on 5.0 oc5!!!
TWRP 2.8.0.0 works great. I Odin'ed: openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.0-hltespr-4.4.img.tar
Native hotspot mod works on stock ROM without root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796994
Xposed framework will take time for Samsung devices. Check for updates at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
You don't need cf auto root. Flash your recovery. I'm still using philz not a single issue. Then flash supersu zip and reboot that's it.

If I go into settings about....SOFTWARE VERSION reads N900PVPUEOC5??? How is this possible if I did a factory reset and did a ODIN with both NK4 tar and then tried NH7 tar?? I cannot seem to get the OTA again since the system seems to think I have OC5......HELP PLZ!:crying:
