[Q] Dead sgs3, want data recovered - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone basically died on me. Read online and seems I have a faulty chipset on the motherboard which fried on me. Sudden Death Syndrome, no response at ALL.
Thinking of changing the motherboard, but want my internal memory recovered as I never used an external memory card nor backed my information. Is it possible to still get that data? I was thinking to swap the memory chip from the old board into the new one.
If it is even possible, or there are other easier ways to get it done, please tell me! Desperate!

Not possible sorry. An SDS is a complete eMMC failure so the data there is either corrupted or has been completely wiped.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but if it doesn't turn on at all then no.
tought so, but is there no way to take out the memory and put it on a new motherboard or somthing like that?

Of course you can do that, but that's a massive undertaking and would cost you 2 phones.
i am still looking for an solution to recover my data from a dead sgs2 is there a way to do it, even if i have to destroy the phone?
Hi lector007 ,
Did you ever figure out a way to do this?
The exact same thing happened to me and I'm desperate to get all the videos of my daughter off the internal memory.
I just can't beleive that it's not possible.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thank you

[Q] Recover internal Memory date from a Dead Phone

i had (still have) a Galaxy s II. it died COMPLETELY, i have important data inside the internal memory.
now i use a Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus, both have internal Memory, even though with my NOTE i don't save important Date in internal memory BUT i have no choice with my beloved Galaxy Nexus.
i started this thread to gather any useful information regarding the internal memory and how to recover it, For me and many people with this fear.
there are accidents that will kill the phone for good, like dropping it the water or falling and braking.
PLEASE don't offer the service center.
Can it be turned on?

COMPLETELY DEAD. it won't go to Recovery nor Downloading mode NOR connects to boot cable.
and the question is if the phone doesn't work at all what should we do?
i'm really afraid of using Galaxy Nexus because i don't know what to do if my phone dies (like Falling and breaking, the way it doen't turn on) and it's not like taking the memory out of the phone like an SD card.

You didn't want to hear it but the only option (to fix it) is to carry it in under warranty. Unless you want an expensive paperweight .

the problem is sometimes the info inside the memory is priceless. in my situation i don't really care about the phone anymore, i'm searching for a solution to get my data back from the internal memory not to fix the phone.

The data can't be recovered if the device is not fixed (especially since it's not on an SD card and you cannot boot into recovery).
Even if you take it to a repair center there is no promise your data wont be wiped in the process. Above poster is right. If it is dead then the info is dead as well.

Is not that truly dead, if it is too important as he says, he can take the chip and send it to the company so they can take the information out.
OP, if it is too important take my suggestion but It will cost a lot of money.
Thanks for all and God bless you.

Incorrect.
@omid_freesky
Given if you've got skillz in electronics,
open it
connect to NAND emmc mem
do a few important basic tricks to keep the chipset from getting in the way
pull off the data
done.
or pay me to do that magic for you.
It will cost you, you need to know that in advance.

[Q] Exchanging internal SD?

Hi all,
My galaxy S2 recently died due to minor water damage. Now I ordered a S4, but I would like to know whether it's possible to recover photos from the internal SD card. To be clear: the phone doesn't power on anymore at all. My girlfriend also has a Galaxy S2, and I was thinking of exchanging some phone parts to access the broken one's internal memory. Some things I've been thinking of:
1. Switch mainboards. This would only be useful if the internal SD card is not soldered to the mainboard. Could someone tell me whether this is the case?
2. I read on a website the following:
As the chips are directly soldered to the smartphone’s mainboard and can be made to specially interface with the SoC used, but sometimes companies don’t solder user-accessible internal storage to the mainboard, instead putting a micro-SD card in a hidden slot. Examples are phones like Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Desire HD.

This implies that I could simply take out this internal SD card and switch it with the other phone. Is anyone familiar with this?
My girlfriends phone has to remain working in the end, mine is broken already and I don't care whether it breaks even more..
Thanks in advance!
Samsungs are soldered, it's an actual chip. And just don't go there. The possibility that you'll completely stuff it up beyond repair is high unless you do this sort of thing for a living (and you'd have to source the chip from a 2nd hand board anyway, might as well do the easy thing & replace the board).
You've got it the wrong way around re: motherboard. This is exactly what service centres replace when n00bs come in & say 'I went to sleep & my phone didn't wake up (I was trying to flash a custom rom to my phone but flashed a rom for the I9000 by mistake).
Either replace the motherboard yourself (source a 2nd hand one from a 'donor' or broken phone online somewhere), or find the board & pay a local mobile repair shop to do it. That's should fix it assuming nothing else is water damaged, which you're only going to know if you either take it to someone who can diagnose, or you swap the motherboard out.
Or you can throw it in the bin.
what happened? were you able to recover the photos and contacts? I have a similar situation, shall I try replacing the motherboard?

[Q] Sudden death syndrome on my GS3

So recently my GS3 start dying randomly and I haven't done any change to my device...
at the beginning I didn't know what was going on, but after a short search on the internet I found out its a classic SDS caused by the infamous "Insane Chip" which of course my device has.
I read that the solution to the SDS should come with any ROM higher than 4.1.2 which I already had on my device....
tried flushing different roms (some customized and some stock) with no help...
the device runs perfectly until its suddenly drops dead, and I also found out that the battery keeps darining as the device was turned on and when people try to reach me they get a rining tone while my devine won't actually ring or function.
I've tried on a different battery, SIM card and SD card from another GS3 that works just fine and still got the same problem while the other device which was working great kept working the same way,
so I guess I can rule out the ROM, the battery, the SIM card and the SD card.
what can I do?
thanks in advanced!
Rony.
My first guess is that it's the battery

First of all misconceptions about sds people who have problems with their phone suddenly blame it on sds.....Now true sds is exactly what it says sudden death syndrome ie: your phone switches off and never comes back on again no matter what you try...There is a partial sds which can have similar symptoms but has GIJS053 said above I think my first port of call would be a new battery.

Well it looks like your trying all the right things to find the problem which is good..maybe you should think whether it is hardware related? I know you said the device powers off but does it freeze at all or does it just power off? the reason I ask is this thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ultimate-galaxy-s3-unusual-freezing-t2133401 << but to me it is sounding more hardware related what the problem is exactly I don't know but maybe somebody can help who sees your thread good luck.

The device dons't freeze at all, and actualy works super fine.
but something I seem to forget to mention it is that the device only dies several minutes after I turn off the screen.
it dosn't die after a prolonged use and few seconds after I turn off screen I still can turn it one without problmes.
the problem begins few minutes after the device screen is turned off.
Do a full wipe, format internal sd and flash the latest stock 4.3 with odin. Remove the external sd and sim, test fully before you install or restore anything. If it is still the same then you have a hardware issue, probably an IC failure on the motherboard.
SDS and half SDS relates to faults within the emmc IC, which is very different to the symptoms you describe.

what's "IC" exactly? and is it fixable or replacable??
Integrated Circuit, the chips attached to your motherboard. Not fixable, new motherboard required if so.

Sounds expensive...
how much the IC + the repairment should cost??
New motherboard is around 2/3rds the cost of replacing the whole phone.

[Q] Galaxy S3 with "SDS" brick, what are my options?

I was just using my phone earlier today when I received a call and a text and another call at the same time in perfect timing, then the phone went black and hasn't shown any life since then.. I understand this is the Sudden Death Syndrome with the galaxy. What do I need to do to get that bootloader put onto my sd card and see if it can write the emmc at all? I also have veteran soldering skills, I can swap the emmc chip like a piece of cake if needed. Just wondering what I need to do to make my phone run again, thanks!
Also, i know that new data will need to be flashed to the new chip if i have to replace it, how would i do that?
