For all the DIY'rs and repair guys I used my G2 to make a teardown guide on iFixit its similar to the one i made for the Nitro HD (P930) its pretty simple with patience and steady hands to replace anything on it just take a look at the guide hope it helps sopmeone in the future.

Why did you decide to start opening the back cover from the bottom right of the phone? Looking at guides for taking off the back cover on the Verizon/International version, everyone seems to start from the SIM tray slot. Is there something about the AT&T version that prevents opening the back cover from the tray? Based on your pictures, opening from the corner caused some cosmetic damage.

Thats where i tried to start but going in from there seemed to put stress on the plastic so trying to save its condition i poked around the seam until i found the corner was willing to come open with ease
Overall it's a great guide, but a lot of the pictures are really blurry. No offense, but in a delicate breakdown, the pictures should have been crisp and clear.

Yea i was disappointed with the pics myself but i did it at 3am just not being able to sleep and used my sisters s3 for the pics holding tools, parts, and a phone are kinda difficult but i think it gets the point across if i was going to make a guide like the ifixit team i would have setup my nikon and removed all the emi shields and pointed out the chipsets and everything

I would like to do a complete teardown of the hardware, and at this point can't afford to just buy another table to tear apart. (And who would want to do that to a perfectly good, running unit?) Isuppli has a teardown for the Galaxy Tab, but I don't think it's remotely close to our hardware since it's based on Snapdragon and not Tegra.
I want one that is beyond repair for the greater good of accessories. We are making a lot of speculations about what the hardware can and can't do. I have a feeling that there are ways to accomplish some of the things we would like to see.

That's not exactly a "teardown" writeup. More of a "I took the back off and this is what I saw"
highlights that are missing.....
There is no trace routing.
There is no detail on the ancillary chips on the board.
There is no BOM, let alone any part numbers (other than the LCD)
The OP says "there's nothing interesting on the backside of the board" - Yeah, except there's at least 8 chunks of silicon on there, not including the 3 pin linear regulator.
There is space on the backside of the board for more memory, but the OP didn't even put the part numbers of the memory from the front side.
The only technical detail in that thread is what the LCD panel # is.
Sorry, I'm not trying to flame the person who did the original post, but teardowns need to be detailed and accurate or they aren't worth doing.

I broke my tablet this weekend trying to put a heat sink on the processor. Now it won't turn on. I haven't given up on it yet, I just haven't had time to debug it further. If I can't get it working again, i was hoping to get together with someone who dropped it and broke their screen. Otherwise the large battery could always be useful for other projects.
But, it also means I have taken mine apart and will do so again. I can take some high res (18MP) pictures of everything if you want. I took some while I was doing the heat sink, but I was only concerned about keeping that in focus.
Out of curiosity why were you trying to put a heat sink the processor?

Its very tight, press hard with your thumbs in the center of the upper back cover and push up and it will pop off.

No need to delete; aside from the fact that this has been discussed before (but not recently). Others have had difficulty with this, and may benefit from this thread.
I attached the image from the owners manual that shows where to press with your thumbs to get the cover off. I think my Flyer (Best Buy version) actually had these same instructions in a quick-start guide, or maybe even a sticker on the tablet itself. But I remember View owners commenting this was much more mysterious (even unmentioned) in their packaging. And many people would not think (at least at first) to download the full manual to find the instruction for this.
Its tricky and takes a good amount of force. But I also found it takes a little "technique" in pressing the right spot with your thumbs (pressing inward to disengage the plastic "hooks) while pushing the cover up. Its the kind of thing that takes forever and seems insanely difficult the first time you try. But once you get a feel for it, you can do it pretty easily.

Love my phone but had large phone in small pockets and upshot is it fell out and I accidentally drop kicked it across the room.
The plastic piece under the power and volume buttons broke and created a disconnect with the power (constant restarts and even booted into safe mode) so I had to remove it to stop the plastic from continuing to jam the power button.
I have ordered a replacement front/sides for the phone but searched high and low for a fix-it or tear down video.
Anyone know how I can get the old one off and the new one on?

The phone is usable but I would prefer it whole. Can anyone help?

Thank you very much for this manual which assisted me in the teardown of my Z Ultra.
I broke the screen in my pocket, glass and digitizer were broke making the phone useless.
The only thing missing was taking the coverglass/lcd off the frame, seems Sony replaces screen and frame as one unit.
I used one of the various guides for Xperia Z, heat and prying tool, and im now ready to put a new screen in, trying to find the best deal now.

Just a quick question. Anyone else have an issue with their screen cracking? My P9000 has developed a crack over the led. I didn't drop, knock or bump the phone. I've emailed support for advice. I'll keep this forum posted.
Update got a very prompt response. Two sentences

No details of how to get a repair, that's it! Not the best customer service. I've replied enquiring about service centres, costs etc. and will update the post when I get more info. There are a few posts asking for similar details re. Screen replacement so the info will be useful for the community.
actually it's strange to think that a screen can brake by itself , can you post some pictures?
elephone customer care have already proved it's lower quality service . i don't know where you live but best solution imho is to give the phone to a local cinese phone repair shoop , here in my city there are a couple that repair - fix phones for low money and they also provide spareparts that arrive very quick and at low price thanks to it's black market channel, try to search one
I agree it's very unusual that the screen would break in this way, but I'm really very careful with all my devices and this has never happened before.
If Elephone say that this cannot happen then I'm not going to quibble, I'm more interested in repairing the phone. Sending it back to the seller for repair will be an interesting, long and probably prohibitively expensive process, but I'll make enquiries.
In other news Elephone are still working on a new ROM for the device, I took the opportunity to ask supplementary questions in my email :laugh: so the chatter on the forums about the 19/04 build being the last one can abate for a while.

Your phones has physical damage along the bottom side of the metal frame can clearly see where its been scraped. You sure it didn't drop or get dragged along something while face down? Hopefully there's an OEM replacement as its just the glass that seems to be damaged not the LCD

I had a similar small crack appear on mine which had not been dropped I assumed it had been knocked whilst in my pocket, But then today i put my phone in my pocket to drive and collect the kids when i got to the school i had 3 additional cracks I assume its something to do with the size of the screen and it not flexing.
The new cracks now make it pretty tough to use the phone as they are affecting the touch functions, once i can unlock it i will take some photos to post.

Thank you. I'd almost convinced myself that I must have knocked the phone.
Events have taken a new turn. The left hand side of the screen now creaks and pops when you press on it. If I press sufficiently hard enough it stops creaking and popping, almost as if it is correctly seated again only to literally and audibly pop out again 5 minutes later.
I will post a video later, and will be contacting elephone with evidence that there is a design flaw with the device. I'll keep this forum updated on my progress.
thats weird thats where my spontaneous crack started images attached, the bottom one is under the glass but i think was the cause of the left side one.
Adding images as attachments as well given the URLS don't seam to be showing correctly.
Mine also has a minor crack on the screen, it's in a case and has not been dropped. There is no damage to the frame at all, I'm guessing it's from being in my pocket. The phone obviously isn't as strong as mainstream manufacturers. My crack is very faint in the top right corner and you really have to look at it in a certain light to see it.
If it gets worse, I'll buy a new phone (One Plus 3) and not look at this device again

Mine broke in my front pocket without impact. It was the aluminium frame that was bending and must have cracked under the stress. In hindsight I should have started putting the phone in my pocket the other way around. Ha ha!

I got some dust particles on the inside of the lens which really annoys me. Due to this the camera does not focus correctly.
I really want to keep the phone waterproof so i am afraid to take it apart to clean it. Anyone experience similar issues or even swapped the backcover? Any recommendations for a backcover that ensures waterproof ability after swapping it?

If you're getting dust under the lens you're obviously not water tight. I have ordered a replacement back and it cracked just picking it up. I don't know how fragile the original is but I'd be very careful while removing it. New seals can be bought for a few bucks.
not sure where this came from - the body is 100% waterproof...maybe "dust" particle is not the correct explanation
maybe is scratch dots from keys in you pocket?

the scratches on the outside of the lens are no problem since the sony coated this and also polishing is working quite well. also i checked this several times with a magnifier.
i have uploaded a picture of the particle that causes the faulty autofocus. at the picture on the right you can see that this is on the inside of the lens.
since the phone is waterproof this is quite clearly a production fault but since i need the phone for my everyday work and life issuing a rma at sony is no option for me.
i was just wondering is someone else experienced anything similar or swapped the backcover and tested waterproof
You can test your waterproofness of your phone to do the pressure test in the service menu.
Go to dialer and dial *#*#service#*#*, go to service test and then pressure sensor. The value indicated on the screen should increase by pressing on your screen when the phone is still waterproof.

How much does yours go up? Mine started at 997 millbar and goes up to 1002 millbar max when I started seeing discoloration from pushing the LCD too hard.

that's fine. Mine is also just a few millibar. try it with the simtray flap open. It won't increase a bit.

since sony support couldn't offer me an adequate solution for their manufacturing error I decided to find a solution by myself.
primary most important was for me that i do not open the device.
I got rid of the particle by freezing the phone in the freezer for 20min and tapping on the lens. The particle fell off and now somewhere i do not care about )
if someone has a similar issue this might be also an alternative solution
Same problem here. It supprises me the presition in which this product was conceived with programmed obsolescence. Just after guaranty ended I began to notice blurs and dust.
I suppose gaskets became less performant as they get harder and they can't hold pressure changes anymore, like when you take a plane or enter a tunnel in a train.

I have the same translucent gray dust spots on my rear camera, and tapping and bumping with strenght makes them moving around. Of course this is programmed obsolescence.
Moreover they fill phones with glue and adhesives for "water-proofness" purposes... but after 2 years of daily use, noone sane minded would submerge any phone and if you have the need, you can't easily fix anything inside the phone or change battery if you aren't a technician , because you have to use professional tools to melt glue and move parts.
That's the current world of "water-proof", thin smartphones.
Something must change if we don't want to swim in oceans made of electronic rubbish in the near future.
